The girl next door (tommy miller x reader) part one
Tumblr media
Summary : tommy miller decides life on road ain't all it crack up to be like he used to it maybe because finds himself absolutely taken with joels next door neighbour
Warnings : tommy miller ( cheesy flirting skills) , fluffy , alludes to smut , mutual pinning , joel done with their shit 😌 ( no maria in this fic also no outbreak either) grammatical errors because I barely sleep and drink to much caffeine but like doesn't everyone )👀
Life on the road used to be the best , the freedom to go where ever not be held down too long , getting to see new faces and places was the life or so it was for a long while even joining the army to hold onto the high of it all and now it wasn't so cool and amazing it was lonely as fuck . tommy miller was suddenly ready to leave the road well to the road it was time for him to settle down in a way shit he wasn't thinking of doing what his brother did no .. well maybe in the future but the settled part being in one place and not expecting to keep moving all time was what he needed . so his bag on his bag he hit the road one last time heading to what he hope was new start of his life.
pulling up to his brother driveway was something he never wanted to do he hated joel wife , despised the woman who never was happy with how his brother broke his back to provide for them all it was actually how he and joel stopped talking for years but he had to hand it to his big brother the new house well it was a beauty like ones they used to pass on the way to school as kids . joel would always say he'd build a nice house for them like that now he held that promise for his girls . biting his tongue ready to suck up to the demon lady as he pulled the bag on his shoulder , looking around it was a nice neighborhood too way better than run down one they grew up in . barely raising his hand to the door it flew open joel standing with big smile on his usual grumpy face pulling his brother in for a big hug and into the house.
" it's good see you, beer? " he asked easily.
" look at this place , shit i'll take a beer .. where are my nieces" tommy looked around taking in the photo's none of the she devil mainly of the girls and joel some of joel and another woman that tommy could only hope for a better outcome . " your lovely mrs ?" he gritted trying to not sound bitter and failing miserably .
" girls are at friends for weekend so be back sunday ... mrs is someone else travelling the world or some shit last five years" joel rolled his eyes as two walked into the kitchen joel gesturing for him to sit as he grabbed two cold ones from the fridge.
" what about the girls?" tommy asked.
" apparently she never wanted to be a mom , hurt but they got over it , we moved in here i'd say six months after we've been happiest we've ever been" joel shrugged .
before they could continue the conversation the front door opened and sound of footsteps coming down the hall.
" hey miller i got a special delivery " the voice called instantly tommy could tell it was a woman soft and sweet a vast difference of the shrill and pitchy mess joel ex had. " oh shit i didn't know you had company" she stood wide eyes holding box in her hands as she almost tried to sus the stranger out .
" darling this is my little brother tommy , tommy this is y/n" .
" well done big brother and younger too " tommy smirked standing to shake her hand only for joel face palm and y/n break out laughing.
" i'm his friend and neighbour is all , told you miller people think we're a couple or your my sugar daddy " she snorted putting the box on the counter only joel to playfully push her out of the way before handing her a beer. " he wishes though " she added .
" i really don't kiddo but keep thinking that" he rolled his eyes .
" i don't do the whole old man thing sorry " she shot back in disbelief tommy watched his brother being well a human playing along with the teasing his young and well hot ass neighbour . she was something , perfect blend of sugar and spice and sassy in every way . " so are you the one that was in the army? " she asked looking directly shit why was her looking at him making him suddenly lost for words .
" sure am sugar well i was now i'm looking for a job hopefully my big brother can help with that one" .
" yeah start monday , already sorted it with the boss" joel rolled his eyes .
" well cheer to baby miller getting the job " y/n held her beer up .
" i'm easily what ten years older sugar who you calling a baby" .
" your new favourite neighbour easily ... shit i gotta go was good meeting you baby miller and good to see you haven't died of old age joel " she rushed out beer still in her hand .
" off limits" was all joel said before the two continued to catch up yet tommy couldn't help think of joel pretty neighbour hell it ain't no harm in looking right ?.
.....
It was all he could do was look , six month since meeting y/n it's all he could do was look , talk to her as if she was a friend . that day she was rushing out was well cause she was rushing to her date with this asshole josh . now standing out his brothers back garden it was almost like torture watching how her pretty smiles were directed up at someone who clearly didn't deserve them . he didn't get a woman like y/n but tommy did . tommy got when she got excited over little things it was cute and sweet and yet josh thought it was childish and she needed to grow up . tommy new she loved the sweeter things in life how she like baked good like cookies and brownies but yet josh always got her savory shit she pretended to like . even now he watched josh pick up something heading towards her til tommy rushed and stopped him .
" woah buddy if you wanna kiss your girlfriend i wouldn't eat that" he smiled trying to be civil , trying not to be a dick .
" look i know my girl man" was all he said before eating the threat heading over to her kissing her wasn't long til she felt itchy and her face felt hot when tommy walked back over instantly taking her into the house as the idiot followed after knowing she was getting worse but she definitely wouldn't want a big show of it all .
" sugar sit here" was all he said taking the epipen and putting in her arm and taking the lotion putting it on her now burning skin . she didn't know if it was the reaction or the fact it was tommy miller being so close. " i told you .. i tried to tell you idiot you could of killed her" .
" i didn't know honestly babe" josh gasped looking to her.
" six months you think you'd learn she allergic to kiwi before kissing her after eating stupid kiwi salad" tommy muttered .
" it's honest mistake i know more about her than you do " josh spat .
" hey what's going on ?" joel walked in already sensing the oncoming fight the moment the two set foot on his property. he didn't like josh but he hoped it would mean tommy moved on , he knows or so he thought he knew what his brother was like . he had never in all his life seen his brother so hung up on a woman nor had he seen the woman returned the sentiment but she was just doing what joel asked . now both were miserable and well he had a moran in his kitchen .
" you think you know her ... what's her favourite colour?" tommy asked ignoring the other two .
" easily purple or pink like the flowers i get her" josh smiled as she winced
" actually she love yellow like sunflowers her favourite flower... where does she love to go" tommy asked probably handing him the answer .
" beach?" josh sounded less confident.
" oh you idiot" joel sighed.
" you could of said anyplace that carried books giving its her favourite hobby man do you know anything " .
" hey josh i think it time for you to go and maybe we shouldn't see each other" she said softly. " i mean lets be real you don't know me or like me for me" she added sadly .
" oh fuck this not worth it " was all he said before leaving as her eyes fell to her lap.
" hey i'm tired i'm just gonna sit this one out" was all she got out standing uneasy .
" i'll bring you over" joel wrapped his arm out.
" see you tomorrow baby miller" she said quietly no playful lilt to her voice one he was so used to as he watched the two leave.
" shit that was like a car crash" he turned to see ellie and sarah standing by the back door . " i mean yay josh is gone he was boring fuck but shit you had a chance there"
" can you go a sentence without swearing ... but she is right i mean you look at her like a love sick puppy it's honestly..." sarah smiled .
" sad" ellie cut in .
" i was going to say adorable ".
" nah it's sad but your dad said she's off limits he's probably scared i'll fuck it up , i seem to fuck everything i touch up" tommy laughed dryly.
" nah your not fuck up , your the best uncle we've ever had" ellie pointed out .
" i'm your only uncle" he deadpanned.
" your not a fuck up , since when did you listen to our dad ?" sarah asked slightly confused.
" since i was afraid of fucking it up i mean yeah at start i thought it was something to get out of my system but more i got to know her well i was a goner " he smiled sadly.
" he was a goner since the first time he met her" joel walked into the kitchen . " she home safe sleeping , i know what i said but i take it back ok " .
" so he can get the girl " ellie asked almost vibrating with happiness matching her older sister.
" how am i gonna get the girl ?" tommy looked at his family
" with our help of course" joel smiled .
" what changed your tune ?"
" because their sickening to look at and i don't want another josh around , fucking boring asshole" joel smirked.
" this is gonna be good " ellie cheered .

Napoleon In A Good Humor
Volume 2: Cosette; Book 1: Waterloo; Chapter 7: Napoleon In A Good Humor
The Emperor, though ill and discommoded on horseback by a local trouble, had never been in a better humor than on that day. His impenetrability had been smiling ever since the morning. On the 18th of June, that profound soul masked by marble beamed blindly. The man who had been gloomy at Austerlitz was gay at Waterloo. The greatest favorites of destiny make mistakes. Our joys are composed of shadow. The supreme smile is God’s alone.
Ridet Cæsar, Pompeius flebit, said the legionaries of the Fulminatrix Legion. Pompey was not destined to weep on that occasion, but it is certain that Cæsar laughed. While exploring on horseback at one o’clock on the preceding night, in storm and rain, in company with Bertrand, the communes in the neighborhood of Rossomme, satisfied at the sight of the long line of the English camp-fires illuminating the whole horizon from Frischemont to Braine-l’Alleud, it had seemed to him that fate, to whom he had assigned a day on the field of Waterloo, was exact to the appointment; he stopped his horse, and remained for some time motionless, gazing at the lightning and listening to the thunder; and this fatalist was heard to cast into the darkness this mysterious saying, “We are in accord.” Napoleon was mistaken. They were no longer in accord.
He took not a moment for sleep; every instant of that night was marked by a joy for him. He traversed the line of the principal outposts, halting here and there to talk to the sentinels. At half-past two, near the wood of Hougomont, he heard the tread of a column on the march; he thought at the moment that it was a retreat on the part of Wellington. He said: “It is the rear-guard of the English getting under way for the purpose of decamping. I will take prisoners the six thousand English who have just arrived at Ostend.” He conversed expansively; he regained the animation which he had shown at his landing on the first of March, when he pointed out to the Grand-Marshal the enthusiastic peasant of the Gulf Juan, and cried, “Well, Bertrand, here is a reinforcement already!” On the night of the 17th to the 18th of June he rallied Wellington. “That little Englishman needs a lesson,” said Napoleon. The rain redoubled in violence; the thunder rolled while the Emperor was speaking.
At half-past three o’clock in the morning, he lost one illusion; officers who had been despatched to reconnoitre announced to him that the enemy was not making any movement. Nothing was stirring; not a bivouac-fire had been extinguished; the English army was asleep. The silence on earth was profound; the only noise was in the heavens. At four o’clock, a peasant was brought in to him by the scouts; this peasant had served as guide to a brigade of English cavalry, probably Vivian’s brigade, which was on its way to take up a position in the village of Ohain, at the extreme left. At five o’clock, two Belgian deserters reported to him that they had just quitted their regiment, and that the English army was ready for battle. “So much the better!” exclaimed Napoleon. “I prefer to overthrow them rather than to drive them back.”
In the morning he dismounted in the mud on the slope which forms an angle with the Plancenoit road, had a kitchen table and a peasant’s chair brought to him from the farm of Rossomme, seated himself, with a truss of straw for a carpet, and spread out on the table the chart of the battle-field, saying to Soult as he did so, “A pretty checker-board.”
In consequence of the rains during the night, the transports of provisions, embedded in the soft roads, had not been able to arrive by morning; the soldiers had had no sleep; they were wet and fasting. This did not prevent Napoleon from exclaiming cheerfully to Ney, “We have ninety chances out of a hundred.” At eight o’clock the Emperor’s breakfast was brought to him. He invited many generals to it. During breakfast, it was said that Wellington had been to a ball two nights before, in Brussels, at the Duchess of Richmond’s; and Soult, a rough man of war, with a face of an archbishop, said, “The ball takes place to-day.” The Emperor jested with Ney, who said, “Wellington will not be so simple as to wait for Your Majesty.” That was his way, however. “He was fond of jesting,” says Fleury de Chaboulon. “A merry humor was at the foundation of his character,” says Gourgaud. “He abounded in pleasantries, which were more peculiar than witty,” says Benjamin Constant. These gayeties of a giant are worthy of insistence. It was he who called his grenadiers “his grumblers”; he pinched their ears; he pulled their moustaches. “The Emperor did nothing but play pranks on us,” is the remark of one of them. During the mysterious trip from the island of Elba to France, on the 27th of February, on the open sea, the French brig of war, Le Zéphyr, having encountered the brig L’Inconstant, on which Napoleon was concealed, and having asked the news of Napoleon from L’Inconstant, the Emperor, who still wore in his hat the white and amaranthine cockade sown with bees, which he had adopted at the isle of Elba, laughingly seized the speaking-trumpet, and answered for himself, “The Emperor is well.” A man who laughs like that is on familiar terms with events. Napoleon indulged in many fits of this laughter during the breakfast at Waterloo. After breakfast he meditated for a quarter of an hour; then two generals seated themselves on the truss of straw, pen in hand and their paper on their knees, and the Emperor dictated to them the order of battle.
At nine o’clock, at the instant when the French army, ranged in echelons and set in motion in five columns, had deployed—the divisions in two lines, the artillery between the brigades, the music at their head; as they beat the march, with rolls on the drums and the blasts of trumpets, mighty, vast, joyous, a sea of casques, of sabres, and of bayonets on the horizon, the Emperor was touched, and twice exclaimed, “Magnificent! Magnificent!”
Between nine o’clock and half-past ten the whole army, incredible as it may appear, had taken up its position and ranged itself in six lines, forming, to repeat the Emperor’s expression, “the figure of six V’s.” A few moments after the formation of the battle-array, in the midst of that profound silence, like that which heralds the beginning of a storm, which precedes engagements, the Emperor tapped Haxo on the shoulder, as he beheld the three batteries of twelve-pounders, detached by his orders from the corps of Erlon, Reille, and Lobau, and destined to begin the action by taking Mont-Saint-Jean, which was situated at the intersection of the Nivelles and the Genappe roads, and said to him, “There are four and twenty handsome maids, General.”
Sure of the issue, he encouraged with a smile, as they passed before him, the company of sappers of the first corps, which he had appointed to barricade Mont-Saint-Jean as soon as the village should be carried. All this serenity had been traversed by but a single word of haughty pity; perceiving on his left, at a spot where there now stands a large tomb, those admirable Scotch Grays, with their superb horses, massing themselves, he said, “It is a pity.”
Then he mounted his horse, advanced beyond Rossomme, and selected for his post of observation a contracted elevation of turf to the right of the road from Genappe to Brussels, which was his second station during the battle. The third station, the one adopted at seven o’clock in the evening, between La Belle-Alliance and La Haie-Sainte, is formidable; it is a rather elevated knoll, which still exists, and behind which the guard was massed on a slope of the plain. Around this knoll the balls rebounded from the pavements of the road, up to Napoleon himself. As at Brienne, he had over his head the shriek of the bullets and of the heavy artillery. Mouldy cannon-balls, old sword-blades, and shapeless projectiles, eaten up with rust, were picked up at the spot where his horse’s feet stood. Scabra rubigine. A few years ago, a shell of sixty pounds, still charged, and with its fuse broken off level with the bomb, was unearthed. It was at this last post that the Emperor said to his guide, Lacoste, a hostile and terrified peasant, who was attached to the saddle of a hussar, and who turned round at every discharge of canister and tried to hide behind Napoleon: “Fool, it is shameful! You’ll get yourself killed with a ball in the back.” He who writes these lines has himself found, in the friable soil of this knoll, on turning over the sand, the remains of the neck of a bomb, disintegrated, by the oxidization of six and forty years, and old fragments of iron which parted like elder-twigs between the fingers.
Every one is aware that the variously inclined undulations of the plains, where the engagement between Napoleon and Wellington took place, are no longer what they were on June 18, 1815. By taking from this mournful field the wherewithal to make a monument to it, its real relief has been taken away, and history, disconcerted, no longer finds her bearings there. It has been disfigured for the sake of glorifying it. Wellington, when he beheld Waterloo once more, two years later, exclaimed, “They have altered my field of battle!” Where the great pyramid of earth, surmounted by the lion, rises to-day, there was a hillock which descended in an easy slope towards the Nivelles road, but which was almost an escarpment on the side of the highway to Genappe. The elevation of this escarpment can still be measured by the height of the two knolls of the two great sepulchres which enclose the road from Genappe to Brussels: one, the English tomb, is on the left; the other, the German tomb, is on the right. There is no French tomb. The whole of that plain is a sepulchre for France. Thanks to the thousands upon thousands of cartloads of earth employed in the hillock one hundred and fifty feet in height and half a mile in circumference, the plateau of Mont-Saint-Jean is now accessible by an easy slope. On the day of battle, particularly on the side of La Haie-Sainte, it was abrupt and difficult of approach. The slope there is so steep that the English cannon could not see the farm, situated in the bottom of the valley, which was the centre of the combat. On the 18th of June, 1815, the rains had still farther increased this acclivity, the mud complicated the problem of the ascent, and the men not only slipped back, but stuck fast in the mire. Along the crest of the plateau ran a sort of trench whose presence it was impossible for the distant observer to divine.
What was this trench? Let us explain. Braine-l’Alleud is a Belgian village; Ohain is another. These villages, both of them concealed in curves of the landscape, are connected by a road about a league and a half in length, which traverses the plain along its undulating level, and often enters and buries itself in the hills like a furrow, which makes a ravine of this road in some places. In 1815, as at the present day, this road cut the crest of the plateau of Mont-Saint-Jean between the two highways from Genappe and Nivelles; only, it is now on a level with the plain; it was then a hollow way. Its two slopes have been appropriated for the monumental hillock. This road was, and still is, a trench throughout the greater portion of its course; a hollow trench, sometimes a dozen feet in depth, and whose banks, being too steep, crumbled away here and there, particularly in winter, under driving rains. Accidents happened here. The road was so narrow at the Braine-l’Alleud entrance that a passer-by was crushed by a cart, as is proved by a stone cross which stands near the cemetery, and which gives the name of the dead, Monsieur Bernard Debrye, Merchant of Brussels, and the date of the accident, February, 1637.8 It was so deep on the table-land of Mont-Saint-Jean that a peasant, Mathieu Nicaise, was crushed there, in 1783, by a slide from the slope, as is stated on another stone cross, the top of which has disappeared in the process of clearing the ground, but whose overturned pedestal is still visible on the grassy slope to the left of the highway between La Haie-Sainte and the farm of Mont-Saint-Jean.
On the day of battle, this hollow road whose existence was in no way indicated, bordering the crest of Mont-Saint-Jean, a trench at the summit of the escarpment, a rut concealed in the soil, was invisible; that is to say, terrible.

Haikyuu Headcannons: When they’re obsessed with your 🍑 (Oikawa Tooru, Ukai Keishin, Kozume Kenma)
Warnings: Swearing, not super explicit/nsfw, but suggestive content so I’ll put it below the cut just in case
A/N: What’s good everyone? Here’s something that I’ve stayed up way too late working on. It’s 5 in the morning and I’ve forgotten my own name. Let me know if y’all want a continuation with other characters. They all ended up being setters in this one so I just went with it I guess. All characters are aged up and 18+. I hope you enjoy! Please don’t copy any of my writings. My content is originally written and I put a lot of time and effort into each piece. Ask me before reposting.
Oikawa Tooru:
Tumblr media
Of course he’s respectful when you’re in public, but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t noticed the way that new skirt he bought you last week accentuates your ass in justtt the right way.
You’ve caught him staring a few times and he always plays innocent like the sly little shit that he is.
You called him out once, but you know your mans is dramatic
“You wound me, (y/n) chan! What kind of a man do you take me for? I’m a gentleman! Honestly it’s not all that impressive anyways”
“Sounds like someone’s projecting”
“(Y/N), YOU TAKE THAT BACK RIGHT NOW!”
“You blatantly asked for the smoke, so I kindly obliged~”
“I was just kidding, baby! Why’d you have to come for me like that? 😭😭😭😭”
You had one brattykawa on your hands after that one. Dats tough
Anywhooo
Once you two are alone OOF. This. Bitch. Is. SHAMELESS.
He can’t keep his hands off of you. Doesn’t matter the size or shape
Your ass = Tooru magnet
He could pick you out in a crowd of people based on that booty alone
You’ll be cuddling on the couch, you're on top with your head on his chest just watching a movie and enjoying each other’s presence. Then BAM he’s got both cheeks in each hand, squeezing and kneading firmly
“Neee, (y/n) chan~ You’re so soft, baby girl~ How is that even allowed? Damn you’re so gorgeous, princess”
You: Head Empty
You're bent over the kitchen island scrolling through your phone? This mans is playing patty cake on your buns. Those setter hands are dangerously powerful. Of course he knows how to restrain himself as to not hurt you but whew some of those spanks leave you deliciously breathless and your little gasps are like music to his ears… which usually leads to other tingzzzzz and Tooru teasing you for walking funny the next day
Could his ego get any bigger? I don’t know if we’d survive it
Wearing his favorite pair of leggings or those cute pajama shorts? It’s on sight. You’re trapped beneath this painfully beautiful brat of a man and you wouldn’t have it any other way
And lawwdd if you know how to twerk. He might just faint on the spot
RIP Oikawa it was for a good cause
Ukai Keishin:
Tumblr media
Oh boy
Keishin gives me serious ass man vibes. Idk what it is
He worships you in every way possible, but that ass holds a special place in this cranky man’s heart
After a long day of working with crops, managing the store and volleyball practice, this man is tired and grumpy. Hinata somehow managed to almost meet his eternal rest when he was nearly hit by a TRUCK and a CAR and a BIKE and a STATIONARY POLE trying to outdo Kageyama while racing in the neighborhood. He swears those kids have taken at least ten years off his life span.
This man is v stressed
So when he comes home to find you reading in bed on your stomach in nothing but his t-shirt and those sexy panties that show off that beautiful bum… Honestly he could’ve cried he was so geeked.
He teared up a bit ngl (He’d never admit it tho)
This guy swan dived into bed, wrapping his arms around your waist, nuzzling his face into your glorious cakes
“Bad day, hon?”
“Mmmphh”
He took a fat nap right then and there
He was so bitchy and whiny when you woke him up to change sleeping positions (as long as you let him slip a hand on a cheek when you got comfortable, he’s a happy camper)
He just loves feeling the warmth and weight of it in his hands, it’s comforting to him and feels super grounding idk
But boy oh boy does this man love to give it a good smack or two or ten
Watch out bb 😈
He’ll spank you anywhere anytime, but he’s real sneaky about it in public….until he’s not LOL. It just depends on the environment and who is around
Like Oikawa, the strength in those setter hands will have you shOOk to the core especially a seasoned one like Kei
One time you were doing your morning stretches, slipping into downward dog and HO. NEY. Keishin was already pulling you flush against his pelvis and smacking that 🍑 like a djembe drum until tears pricked your eyes. Your whole body was vibrating with desire it was WILD
“Ohhhh, sweetheart. You are a work of fucking art, you know that? You’re not going anywhere today. That’s a promise.”
And that’s how you ended up with twins. Not sorry.
10/10 would recommend
Kozume Kenma:
Tumblr media
Listen Linda
It took a while for you to notice
But Kenma is truly OBSESSED with the booty
It took him a while to even admit it to himself tbh
He would look away immediately when he caught himself staring
And he may have appeared chill on the surface but blondie was internally screaming as you literally sat on top of him while he was gaming
He was so hesitant poor bb was overthinking it so hard. He just didn’t want you to feel uncomfortable or think he was weird etc etc
It was confirmed to you when you started waking up in the middle of the night to a fully unconscious Kenma giving your ass subtle squeezes in his sleep
You’ll literally have to sit this man down and be super direct about it
Once you give him the go ahead chillle it’s on and poppin
Only when y’all are alone of course cuz as we know, Kenma is v shy and a very private person
He’s not the pda type in general
Again, he loves it when you sit on top of him when he’s playing video games. Especially when you straddle him. His hand does this smooth slide down your back that sends shivers down your spine before settling over the swell of your butt. He’ll give the occasional rub and caresses your thigh softly. Another muse of his. Kenma LIVES for your thighs. Would happily be suffocated by them. Whoops. Squeeze them around his waist or grind into his lap and you’ll be on your back faster than you can say yes please
When you’re cuddling, he’ll just start jiggling that cake in his hands. He finds it fascinating, soothing and unbelievably hot all at once. The perfect combination in his opinion.
“ . . . Kenma?”
“Hm?”
“Watcha doin back there?”
*continues in concentrated silence*
“Babe??”
“. . . You’re like a sexy human stress ball . . So soft . . So cute . . So squishy . .”
“Ummmkay?”
My mans is hypnotized. He would do that shit for hours if you let him let’s be real. That thang is thangin
He would buy you ALL of the jeans, leggings, shorts, dresses, hoodies, crops, shirts, skirts. Everything and anything that fits your body type in all the right places, Kenma is on it and good lord is he invested. He absolutely spoils you. Blondie bae is surprisingly good at keeping your style in mind while also pushing you to try new things that end up making you look stunning. Big ups
The only time Kenma has spanked you was in retaliation. You wanted to see his reaction to being spanked. So once when he was distracted by his switch, you slowly walked up behind him and SMACK
Kenma nearly dropped the damn switch 😤 You’ve never seen this boi whip his whole body around and bend you over so fast
Two swift yet heavy blows to your backside had you rethinking your whole life. Everything about that moment lives in your head rent free

The orange madness of Amsterdam - My first Koningsdag
Tumblr media
🇬🇧 Finally, it has happened! For several years I kept an eye on this amazing festivity in the Netherlands and since I met Matias, in November 2016, I did not expect anything else other than April to come in order to celebrate the "Koningsdag" (Kin's Day) in Amsterdam.
Expectations were very high: from all over Europe people come to the city ready to experience a day of extraordinary madness through the city's canals.
But let's start from the beginning. What is the Koningsdag?
The King's Day is a festivity celebrated throughout the Netherlands, not just Amsterdam, and occurs on April 27th, the birthday of the current King Willem-Alexander.
Weird fact: They told me that many tourists in the lasts few years arrived in Amsterdam on April 30th, hoping to celebrate the Kingsday, when it actually happened three days earlier. The confusion stems from the fact that until 2013, when the regent was Beatrix of the Netherlands, the "Koninginnedag" (the Queen's Day), was celebrated on April 30th, her birthday basically. Unfortunately, many people continue to consult printed guides, and therefore they are not updated on the fact that the celebrations now have been moved 3 days in advance on the new King's birthday.
Tumblr media
On this day, the city gets an orange extra-layer: wreaths, festoons, hats, wigs and so on... The weirdest you look the better!
Many people might wonder why the "orange" color, considering that it is not among the flag's colors which are blue, white and red. Orange has become a national color because the royal family has its origins in the French principality of Orange Nassau, then descendants of Gulielmo D'Orange. It is no coincidence that the national football team also wears an orange uniform and the team players are called the "Oranges".
What surprised me ...
I was prepared on what this festivity represents and how, in a country that is quite strict to the rules, it seems that everything is allowed on this day!
People start planning their own parties with several days in advance in order to celebrate this day without a hitch. The first thing they are worried about is alcohol: alcohol must be enough to cheer up the whole day. Roads and canals begin to be crowded from the early hours of the day and parties will continue until the evening, with no stop. The supermarkets are besieged days before, with people who start to buy beer in quantity. This is because during the Koningsdag it will be practically impossible to find beer available in supermarkets, you will be allowed to buy a can of beer per person no more. On the other hand, buying beer from the street will cost you more: the price will be doubled:
Normal price: x6 cans € 5.45
Koningsdag street price: x3 cans € 5
Tumblr media
So my advice in case you want to visit Amsterdam during the Koningsdag, is to supply yourself with MANY beers in advance!
The other thing that I did not expect is that during this day the city becomes a giant open-air market, where everyone, following the American tradition of "Garage Sale", can sell whatever they want on the streets: clothes, books, shoes, old records and of course bicycles. Even children begin to understand how to do "business" during this day with musical performances or break dance.
My first Koningsdag
My first Koningsdag did not disappoint me at all! I spent it mainly through Jordan's canals, in one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in Amsterdam, with Matias and few friends. We ate Shoarma, a sandwich with meat that has origins in the Middle East. We stop by Waterkant where there was good music and of course beers like there's no tomorrow... And we ended our day with the best pizza in Amsterdam from Fuoco Vivo!
I have to say that celebrations for me started the previous afternoon with @WeWork that has organized for all its members a pre-KingsDay rave party on the boat. Needless to say, how the party was perfectly successful and has warmed our hearts before the arrival of the actual King's Day!!

Prezzo normale 6 lattine  5,45€ Prezzo Koningsdag 3 lattine 5€

Imagine #13 I Missed You
Tumblr media
“Y/N! Are you ready to go?”
“Yes mom! I’ll be down in a second.” I quickly grabbed my purse and phone and looked in the mirror one more time. I was wearing a white dress paired with nude pumps. It was simple but fancy. They said we would be meeting with other people, one of my dad’s acquaintances, turns out they are pretty important to my parents. I walked down the stairs carefully and saw my parents already waiting by the door.
“I don’t see how you take that long to get dressed.” My dad laughed, but complimented me on my outfit.
“Men never will.” My mom said and smiled at me. “Now let’s go.”
The ride to the restaurant wasn’t that long. I have heard of this one before, it’s one of the most expensive and fanciest restaurants around here. It had one Michelin star. My dad was somehow connected to the sports world and he often had fancy trips, whether it was to a country or a restuarant. Normally my mom and I travel along, but I never go to a dinner. Those were occasions for my parents only. They seemed boring to me anyway. At the moment we were in Barcelona, Spain. He wanted to take my mom and I to this particular dinner. I asked why but he said I would see it myself. I shrugged it off till now. Who could it be?
I walked behind my parents and followed them to our table. I tried to peek over their shoulders to see who we were supposed to meet. I failed miserably due to my short height, even when wearing heels. Suddenly they stopped walking, causing me to almost bump into them as I did lose my balance. Two hands were quickly placed on my waist to prevent me from falling. I steadied myself and turned around. My eyes met a pair of hazel-green eyes. They seemed familiar, but still I couldn’t quite put my finger on it. A fine looking man was standing in front of me. I forced myself to get back to reality.
“Thank you.” I thanked the unfamiliar yet familiar looking young man.
He smirked, “You’ve always been quite the clumsy one.”
I looked at him lost but instead he gave me a wink. Do I know him?
Sure enough I heard my father say: “Ah, I see you’ve already met him.”
I was clueless. Was he talking to me? Who did I meet?
“Look honey, remember Neymar Senior and Nadine? We were very close back in the day.” I looked at the man and woman. I tried to remember something, anything. They were both smiling at me warmly.
“I don’t think she remembers…” My mom mumbled, “They lived in our neighborhood when we stayed in Brazil for a while.”
Then it hit me.
“Of course. You have a daughter, right? It’s so nice to see you again, Mr. and Mrs. Santos.” I gave both of them a hug and two kisses on their cheeks.
“Yes, Rafaella, you used to play a lot together. You’ve become such a beautiful young lady.” Nadine smiled as I blushed. “Thank you. Didn’t you have a son also?” I asked carefully, afraid I was wrong.
“Yes, where is he? I thought he was going to be here?” My mom questioned. She looked behind me acknowledging the boy who prevented me from falling. I didn’t even notice he was still standing behind me.
“Oh my god. Look at you, Juninho. You’re so grown up.” My mom gushed as she embraced him in a tight hug. My eyes grew wide. Neymar Senior. Nadine. Rafaella. And that name. Juninho. That makes him Neymar Junior. It all came back to me now. That was him? Damn. We had eye contact whilst he hugged my mom.
He then greeted my father and I was still staring at him. He finally walked over to me.
“Surprised?”
“It’s you. Oh my god. I can’t believe this. You’ve become so handsome.” I said not believing my eyes. I touched his face, gently squeezing it. “Well, you’re chubby cheeks are gone.” I sighed, somewhat disappointed. He laughed and I genuinely was in awe by his beauty.
“Look at yourself, Y/N. You were always beautiful, but now you’re definitely the most beautiful girl in the world.” His words made me go shy. “You haven’t changed a bit.” He surprisingly hugged me and I hugged him back embracing the moment. He was my childhood best friend after all. It just felt perfect.
I felt a tear slipping from my eye. I released myself from his warm embrace and tried to cover up my sudden sadness. But he knew me too well, even after all these years.
“Excuse us for a moment.” He told our parents and grabbed my hand to lead us somewhere private.
“What’s wrong?” He asked me carefully.
“It’s just that I didn’t even remember you guys. I didn’t remember you. Nowadays we travel a lot and I don’t have that much of a social life. You know? I can’t make friends anywhere, because once I start to know someone we leave the next day. I miss having real friends around me. And you reminded of how it felt like to have someone care for you.” I paused and took a deep breath. “I’m sorry I’m rambling all kinds of things.” He hugged me again. It’s all I needed at the moment. “Don’t be sorry for anything. You know I’ll always be there for you.” I held onto him tightly. He slowly let go of me and I sighed, “How did we lose contact?”
“To be honest, I really have no idea. But I’m so happy we met again.” We smiled and got back to our private table.
“Everything alright?” Nadine asked, having a worried expression on her face.
“Better than ever.”
The dinner continued and Neymar and I were mostly talking to each other about our lives, his succesful career and me trying to live a normal life and go to college. Of course we occasionally were engaged in a conversation with our parents. The food was extremely delicious. Unfortunately to every day had to come an end. We said our goodbyes, when both our dads were looking at us.
“What?” We asked in harmony.
“You two would make a lovely couple.” Neymar Pai grinned. My dad nodded his head eagerly. Neymar and I looked at each other and then back to our dads.
“That’s for us to decide, isn’t it Y/N?” I was taken aback by his bolt remark.
“Yeah, I guess.”
Our parents decided to catch up some more at Neymar’s house, so this wasn’t the end after all. I got into the car and my dad followed Neymar who was driving in front of us. I closed my eyes and recalled some fond memories of us in our younger years.
~~
My parents were out of town and they let me stay at Mr. and Mrs. Santos’ house. I’ve known them my whole life and I’ve grown up together with Rafaella and Neymar. Rafaella wasn’t home either, because she had a school trip, so it was Neymar, his parents and I. It was a hot Saturday and we spent the day at the local pool. It cooled down in the evening and it even started raining and thundering. By 22:00 I was already laying in bed in Rafaella’s room. Neymar’s room was right next to hers. The raining was heavy and the lightning and thunder made it only worse. By now, however, I’ve gotten used to it and as crazy as this sounds it almost had a calming effect on me. I was silently listening to the rain ticking against the window when I heard the door open. I lifted my head to see who it was, “Who is it?”
“It’s me.” 6 year old Neymar said. He was one year younger than me.
“What is it, Juninho?”
“I can’t sleep because of the thunder. It sounds scary.”
“It’s alright, there’s nothing to be scared of. You can stay here if you’d like.” I proposed.
He didn’t say anything else and slid next to me in bed. I smiled to myself.
“Good night Juninho.”
“Good night Y/N. Thank you.”
~~
We arrived at his house and it was huge but gorgeous. We sat down in the living room when Neymar asked, “Does anyone want something to drink?” Everyone wanted tea.
“I’ll help.” I offered.
Neymar and I walked towards the kitchen to make some tea. He started boiling water on the stove.
“You don’t have a tea kettle?” I asked him.
He looked at me and grinned, “I never really drink tea.”
I laughed, “But you do have tea bags I hope.”
“If I’m correct they must be somewhere in one of these cupboards.”
We both started searching for them, “I think they’re up there.” Neymar mumbled standing on his toes, not able to reach them. I wasn’t longer than him either, so obviously I wouldn’t be able to get them.
“Okay, how about I lift you up?” Ney asked.
“Sure. That will do.” I agreed.
He lifted me up just high enough for me to reach the tea bags. We high-fived each other.
“So, Ney, when I was in the car I was thinking about that one time you were afraid of the thunder and couldn’t sleep what made you come to me and we slept together. Do you remember that?” I told him.
He cheekily looked at me. I gave him a confused look.
“We slept together.” He quoted me. I blushed and rolled my eyes, “Ugh, don’t be such a dick. You know what I mean.”
“Alright then.” He put his hands up in defense, “But yes, I do remember that and I must admit, ever since that night I’ve never been scared of thunder again. It always reminded me of you.”
I smiled hearing his words. I now realized how close we were standing in front of each other. I took this opportunity to look at his posture and could not help but make a remark, “You sure have gotten yourself some muscles and I’m sure a sixpack too.” I said as I squeezed his upper arm. He winked and then we both stayed quiet and locked eyes. He started leaning in when we heard footsteps nearing. We both pulled away when we saw his mother in the kitchen. “I just came to check up on you to see if everything’s going alright with the tea.”
“Yes mãe, it’s almost done.” Neymar answered.
“Okay great.” She said and she left again. I could hear Neymar sigh. I chuckled and told him we should quickly bring the tea.
~~
When everyone finished their drinks I put all the mugs back on the tray and brought them to the kitchen. I was about to start washing them when I got interrupted.
“You really don’t have to do my dishes.” Neymar said, putting emphasis on the word ‘my’.
“I know, I want to. You can help now you’re here.” I smirked.
Once we finished Neymar made me sit on the counter top because he had something to say. I obeyed as he came to stand in between my legs and I let him do the talking.
“You know Y/N, I’ve always had a thing for you. You mean more than just a friend to me. And seeing you after all these years just adds to it. I won’t lose you again.” I could see the love and despair in his hazel-green eyes. I didn’t think twice to wrap my arms around his neck and kiss him. I pulled him in deeper as his tongue worked magic.
“I missed you, Neymar. A lot.” We looked at each other, lost in each other’s eyes as I bent down and locked our lips again.
—————- Another oneeee!! Hope you liked this one, like or reblog if you did! Feedback is always welcome :) I have a lot of plots in my mind so be on the lookout for many more imagines to come! beijoss

Tucked away on a quiet side street, the Firehouse Lounge & Hostel serves craft cocktails in a secretive speakeasy setting. Enter the hidden bar by opening the sliding bookcase in the hostel lobby.
The Red River district revolves around live music, and music venues large and small line the streets. Catch a show any night of the week at the Mohawk, revered by locals, where you can see anyone from big musicians to obscure indie bands of all genres.
The city of Austin was born in this neighborhood. The streets maintain the same grid-like format designed by the first governing officials, and historic buildings have retained their original architecture along Congress Avenue. Following the establishment of the University of Texas and the state Capitol, Austin became a hub for education, politics, and commerce during the 1900s. The city has skyrocketed in size and population, with downtown being the thriving heartbeat of its economy and culture.
Tour the monumental Texas State Capitol, and witness government legislature in action. Hear the stories of Texas’ people at the Bullock Texas State History Museum, and celebrate the Día de Los Muertos festival at the Mexic-Arte Museum. The annual SxSW festival showcases the latest in film, tech and music from around the world at hundreds of venues downtown, including the Austin Convention Center and the live music joints on Red River Street.
As the most walkable neighborhood in Austin, locals scuttle about their busy days commuting to work or running errands nearby. Parking can be hard to come by during business hours and on weekend evenings, and you have to pay for your spot with the exception of Mondays through Wednesdays after 6 p.m. and all day Sundays. Hailing a cab should be a breeze, but on those crowded weekend nights, ordering an Uber ride could be more efficient than searching for an open taxi. Locals also use Car2Go, a network of Smart cars that members can rent throughout the city and park anywhere for free.
The Capital Metro bus system blankets the downtown area, making it easy for Austinites to forgo the use of a car. The only Metro Rail line in Austin begins downtown and runs through northern Austin.
Exercise caution when biking downtown, as traffic can be quite hectic at times, although bike lanes do exist on many roads. The main north-south freeways in Austin sandwich downtown, with I-35 on the eastern side and Mopac Loop 1 to the west.
Downtown’s cost of living rests at 22 percent above Austin’s average. Housing in this area can be very expensive, with an average rental rate of $2,165 for a one-bedroom residence. A single ride on the bus costs $1.25, and a day pass runs $2.50. As opposed to housing, beer turns out to be relatively affordable for a big city, at about $5 for a pint, with most places offering happy-hour discounts. Gas prices in this neighborhood tend to fall about 9 percent below the national average.
Austinites classify downtown as a shopper’s paradise thanks to high-end boutiques, chain retailers and quirky local shops that embody the city’s entrepreneurial spirit. Check out Toy Joy with some friends, and find virtually any nostalgic toy you can remember, or just stare in amazement at the selection of oddball trinkets and games. This legendary toy shop has been around since the 1980s and has relocated to the 2nd Street District, the contemporary nucleus of downtown shopping. Locals consider BookPeople, which showcases both modern and classic authors of all genres, to be more of a destination than a bookstore. Staff picks appear on the shelves to guide readers, and the community gathers here to attend frequent book signings by well-known authors.
A few small, urban markets owned by Royal Blue Grocery dot the area. Part convenience store with prepared foods and part grocery store with fresh produce, this upscale vendor opens early and closes late to accommodate the needs of downtown dwellers. The flagship Whole Foods Market resides in the downtown neighborhood, and its in-house café, bar, wine cellar, cooking classes and rooftop events make it much more than your average grocery store. Stock up on locally farmed fruits and vegetables at the SFC Farmers’ Market at 4th & Guadalupe every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
At the southern edge of downtown, the highlight of outdoor recreation in Austin revolves around Ladybird Lake, where locals stave off the heat by kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding. Take your dog for a walk along the public Hike and Bike Trail, and enjoy scenic views of the skyline and river. Play disc golf with the family at the Auditorium Shores field, which also hosts the hip music and comedy festival Fun Fun Fun Fest and numerous SxSW music showcases. Republic Square Park serves as a green escape amid a sea of tall buildings, holding a free outdoor movie series in the summer put on by the Alamo Drafthouse. The Austin Food and Wine Festival takes over the historical square to kick off its festivities each spring, and free Yoga in the Park occurs every Wednesday during the spring and fall.
Art, food, and music deep in the heart of Texas. Walkable Bike-Friendly Food Dining Music Nightlife College
The stunning Texas Capitol towers over the landscape of Downtown Austin, quite possibly the hottest neighborhood in one of America’s favorite cities. Austin’s truly legendary nightlife scene is certainly not restricted to the famous 6th Street, although this particular Downtown thoroughfare definitely has its share of noteworthy watering holes. Live music is an integral element of the city, and nowhere is this more apparent than Downtown, where stages and venues of every description kick out a variety of tunes every night of the week. And of course, living in Downtown Austin comes with the benefit of one of America’s best selections of food, from exceptional local favorites like barbecue and Tex-Mex to eclectic food trucks and exotic international fare.
From a more practical standpoint, living in Downtown Austin puts you right at the heart of the city’s thriving business and government centers, meaning that many locals live near enough to walk or bike to work. The University of Texas campus sits just north of Downtown, making it an excellent location for students, faculty, and collegiate staff, as well as folks who want to be within walking distance of Longhorns home games.
Rent Trends
As of October 2017, the average apartment rent in Austin, TX is $1,603 for a studio, $2,119 for one bedroom, $3,240 for two bedrooms, and $5,966 for three bedrooms. Apartment rent in Austin has increased by 3.0% in the past year.
Ratings Living in Downtown
The downtown neighborhood provides hungry locals with dining options for all tastes and budgets. Participate in a traditional Austin Sunday brunch at Moonshine Patio Bar & Grill, and feast on Southern comfort food. Be prepared for a wait, as locals show up in droves for the fried chicken and waffles, cheddar grits, and green chile macaroni. Head to Koriente for a quick, healthy dinner, and order the pan-seared ahi tuna served over a bed of greens, bell peppers and rice. This family-owned Asian fusion eatery prides itself on supplying Austin with fresh ingredients and affordable meals, and you can customize any dish with gluten-free and vegetarian substitutions. Join the late-night masses at the Kebabalicious food trailer for a perfectly hearty meal to end an eventful night out at the bars. Treat yourself to the beef or lamb kebab or a falafel wrap with tzatziki sauce, and don’t forget to add the feisty feta.
Enjoy world-famous barbecue at Franklin, where you can buy brisket and ribs by the pound. Bon Appetit magazine named Franklin the "Best BBQ" in the country, so you’ll definitely want to add this BBQ joint to your must-visit list when you move to Austin. If you have room, end your meal with a slice of pecan pie.
Austinites swarm downtown at night and on the weekends, with varying bar scenes depending on your mood. The famous 6th Street nightlife scene attracts a crowd as bars line both sides of the street, which closes off to traffic and becomes a pedestrian-only area on weekend nights. For a more laid-back vibe, make your way to Rainey Street, where you can find charming cottages that have turned into eclectic bars. Order a local beer at Icenhauer’s, where it feels like you’re sitting in the backyard of a friend’s house. Of all the Italian cities I have been to in Italy (and I’ve visited quite a few), I would say that Milan is the “trendiest” when it comes to groceries. Not only does the city have a wealth of small independent organic grocery stores, but vendors in Milan also sell products that I haven’t been able to find in other cities, such as sprouted foods. The organic grocery stores are large and have excellent selection. It may not be the most aesthetically pleasing of Italy’s city’s, but you will definitely eat well while here!
ORGANIC GROCERY STORES
Bio c’ Bon is a chain of grocery stores with three locations in Milan. Some of the more interesting products that they carry include sprouted pancake flour, spirulina powder, maca powder, acai powder, popcorn made with coconut oil, organic mascarpone, honeycomb, carob powder, raw sprouted crackers, and oat cakes without dairy or wheat. It is a good place to buy butter and cheese. They also have bulk dry foods and a medium-sized produce section.
Address: Corso di Porta Nuova, 52, 20121 Milano
Hours: 9am – 8pm Monday through Saturday; 10am – 7pm Sunday
Centro Botanico has three locations in Milan. In addition to being a grocery store they are also a cafe and have a mini bookstore that carries health-related books in Italian. They carry a large variety of products including wild fish in extra virgin olive oil in glass jars (I saw branzino, salmon, sardines, orata, tuna, and octopus), tuna burgers, pestos, tomato sauces, mustards, olive pastes, macrobiotic products, apple cider vinegar, lots of different olive oils, bruschetta, flours (such as chickpea, teff, millet, oatmeal, rye, and buckwheat), hummus, ghee, eggs, creme fraiche, kefir, water kefir, smoked fish, canned crab, and many flavors of jam (e.g. goji, pineapple and lemon, pomegranate, orange and ginger, fig, and rose hip).
Address: Via Cesare Correnti, 10, 20123 Milano
Hours: 9am – 7:45pm Monday through Saturday; 3pm – 7:30pm Sunday
NaturaSì is what I like to call the Whole Foods of Italy. This chain of organic grocery stores carries a wide selection of produce, dairy, meat, grains, legumes, house cleaning and personal care products, baking ingredients, and many other items.
Address: Corso Indipendenza, 7, 20129 Milano (there are other locations in the city as well)
Hours: 9am – 7:30pm Monday through Saturday; closed Sunday
Superpolo is one of my favorite markets in Milan. It’s a well-sized organic market that also has an amusing imports section stocked with minced meat, marmite, canned pumpkin, Ocean Spray cranberry sauce, and crappy American peanut butter. Besides selling products I have never seen before anywhere, such as powdered banana and powdered cranberries, they also sell some very taste goose and duck foie gras and wild salmon eggs. Superpolo has biodynamic rice, orzo, and farro; a wide variety of whole grains (e.g. couscous, millet, teff, amaranth, bulgar, quinoa, oatmeal, etc.) and seeds (e.g. chia, flax, pumpkin, sunflower, hemp, poppy, and sesame); frozen seafood; pickled quail eggs; Asian products (e.g. umeboshi, mirin, teriyaki sauce, tamari, miso, and umeboshi vinegar); maple syrup; and dairy (including organic buttermilk, biodynamic Greek yogurt, goat milk yogurt, ghee, emmental cheese, and organic grilling cheese). They also sell produce, supplements, natural cosmetics, essential oils, and personal care products.
Address: Viale Coni Zugna, 65, 20144 Milano
Hours: 9am – 8pm Monday through Saturday; 10am – 1pm, 4pm – 7:30pm Sunday
SempreBio is a smallish organic market and cafe combo. They carry all of the basics that one could need to stock a pantry, including fresh fruits and vegetables. Some interesting finds include raw cocoa beans, kamut flour, black quinoa, brown millet, several biodynamic cheeses (e.g. ricotta, robiolina fresca, primosalino, and crescenza), kuzu, and ghee. They also sell Pacari chocolate, which is a single-origin, raw, organic, and biodynamic brand of chocolate (and very tasty, might I add).
Address: Via Giuseppe Broggi, 13, 20129 Milano
Hours: 9am – 8pm Monday through Saturday; closed Sunday
Piacere Terra is an organic food store chain like Naturasi. It is located rather far from the city center to the northwest. I personally didn’t make it out there, but I include it here for completeness.
Address: Viale Brenta, 35A, 20139 Milano
Hours: 8:30am – 8pm Monday through Saturday; closed Sunday
Almaverde Bio Market is located on the northwestern side of the city, a bit of a ways from the center (i.e., you wouldn’t want to take a stroll here from downtown). It’s a combo market and cafe with your average bio offerings.
Address: Corso Sempione, 43, 20145 Milano
Hours: 8:30am – 8pm Monday through Saturday; closed Sunday
Biomì is a supermarket like Naturasi. If you are staying on the northern side of the city then it may be convenient for you. It is located quite a ways away from the city center but is accessible by public transport.
Address: Via Emilio de Marchi, 59, 20125 Milano
Hours: 10am – 2:30pm, 3:30pm – 8pm Monday through Friday; 10am – 8pm Saturday; closed Sunday
NEIGHBORHOOD ORGANIC MARKETS
Il Casolino is rather small and probably out of the way for most people. In addition to the store it also has a cafe inside. The only unique items I saw at this store compared to other organic shops were the wild pecans and organic pine nuts. They of course carry all the standard fare of Italian bio stores, but do not have fresh produce. Pop in if its location is convenient for you, but otherwise I’d skip it.
Address: Via Paracelso, 10, 20129 Milano
Hours: 10:30am – 7:30pm Monday; 9:30am – 7:30pm Tuesday through Saturday; closed Sunday
Il Mercato Verde is the only shop in Italy where I have seen Dr. Bronner’s soap for sale, although unfortunately it is rather expensive. Also, if you’re looking for a Himalayan salt lamp you can pick it up here!
Address: Via Edoardo Bassini, 43, 20133 Milano
Hours: 8:30am – 7:30pm Monday through Saturday; closed Sunday
Mamma Natura is located far from the city center on the northeastern side of town. They sell bulk dry goods (e.g. grains, spices, teas, seeds, legumes, etc.), cosmetics, and have a cheese counter.
Address: Via Carnia, 7, 20132 Milano
Hours: 8:30am – 2pm, 4pm – 7:30pm Monday through Friday; 10am – 1pm, 4pm – 7:30pm Saturday/Sunday
Armonie nei Gusti is rather far to the northeast of the city center. They carry products for Celiacs, macrobiotic products, cosmetics, and organic packaged items (e.g. seeds, legumes, pastas, chocolate, tea, etc.).
Address: Viale don Luigi Orione, 14, 20132 Milano
Hours: 8:30am – 12:30pm, 3:30pm – 7:30pm Tuesday through Saturday; closed Sunday and Monday
SPECIALTY SHOPS
La Baita del Formaggio has an understated appearance from the street and would be easily passed by any pedestrian unless you knew what treasures lay in wait inside. This cheese shop and was one of the highlights for me while staying in Milan and I would recommend a visit to anyone who is passionate about cheese.
The cheeses will change depending on when you visit as some of them are seasonal, but during my visit La Baita had in stock taleggio la baita, pagnottella di capra, blue stilton, gouda, gorgonzola allo champagne, truffle cheese, and pecorino from Sardegna, to name a few. The gouda came in three different flavors: basil, tomato, and pepperoncino. I cannot rave enough about how amazing the flavor of the basil gouda was. In addition to their fantastic cheeses, they also have great customer service and the shop also has a small coffee bar. What else could one ask for in life?
Address: Via Vincenzo Foppa 5, Milano
Hours: 8:30am – 10pm daily
Peck will cost you a pretty penny, but the food is top-notch and the location can’t be beat as it’s right in the heart of Milan. It’s a hybrid store with cold and hot foods bars, a cheese bar, wine cellar, deli, a fresh pasta bar, greengrocer, and patisserie. While it is probably not affordable for most to shop here for a full meal, the cheese bar is worth a visit. Some of the cheeses for sale include Roquefort, Coulommiers, sheep’s milk ricotta, Gorgonzola, Camembert, Brie, Crescenza, Stilton, Emmentaler, Sbrinz, Gruyere, Holzhofer, Fontina, Toma di Gressoney, and Gran Cru di Grotta. While I was there I picked up some slices of very tasty eggplant parmesan and potato gratin that was, quite literally, melt-in-your-mouth delicious. Peck is a world of gastronomic wonders and a feast for the eyes filled with pâtés, Russian salad, endless spreads of seafood dishes, jellied meats for days, and numerous other hard to find treats for the taste buds.
Address: Via Spadari, 9, Milano
Hours: 3pm – 8pm Monday; 9am – 8pm Tuesday through Saturday; closed Sunday
Gruppo Apicoltori Riuniti is a honey store dedicated to selling products from the art of apiculture (aka beekeeping). They sell a wide variety of Italian honeys and honey derivatives, such as propolis, propolis tinctures and sprays, pollen, etc.
Address: Piazzale Lagosta, 2, 20124 Milan
Hours: 3:30pm – 7:30pm Monday; 9:30am – 12:30pm, 3:30pm – 7:30pm Tuesday through Saturday; closed Sunday
Effecorta is a sustainable, zero-waste shop located in northern Milan. They stock products from local producers and use no packaging. Effecorta sells bulk pastas, cereals, legumes, rice, detergents etc.
Address: Via Franco Faccio, 11, 20161 Milan
Hours: 3:30pm – 7:30pm Monday; 9am – 1pm, 3:30pm – 7:30pm Tuesday through Saturday; closed Sunday
Il Supermarket del Celiaco is exactly what the name proclaims it to be: a supermarket for Celiacs. The store is a bit of a distance to the northwest from the city center, and you have plenty of good options for buying food stuffs for Celiacs in other organic stores in the city, but if you want an even bigger selection of Celiac-safe foods then go here.
Address: Largo Domodossola, 17, 20145 Milano
Hours: closed Monday and Sunday; 9am – 7:30pm Tuesday through Saturday
RAW MILK VENDORS
Unfortunately there are no raw milk vending machines in the city center or within walking distance of Milan. Some of the non-organic vending machines are reachable by public transport within around 45 minutes from the city center. You can look at a map of where all the vendors are by clicking here.
CONVENTIONAL GROCERY STORES
The most common grocery store chains you will see in Milan include Simply, Pam, Carrefour, and Esselunga. At Simply you can pick up items like DOP pecorino, Scaldasole certified biodynamic yogurt, and organic Sterzing-Vipiteno yogurt. And, of course, these supermarket chains are always good for picking up things like feminine care products and plastic bags.
Grocery Guide: Milan Of all the Italian cities I have been to in Italy (and I've visited quite a few), I would say that Milan is the "trendiest" when it comes to groceries.

10 Country Do’s and Dont’s
Summary: When we moved from the big city life to the mountains near Butte, Montana to realize a life long dream of opening the Fish Creek House B&B , I kept my eyes open and my mouth shut and and paid very close attention to other people’s botchery. Personally, I’d really rather watch someone else screw up than have to do it myself. Keywords: montana living, montana lodging, log home, country life, home improvement, renovation, bed and breakfast Article Body: What follows are 10 lessons from my “now I know better” collection. Perhaps these lessons learned will ease your transition from the city to wilderness.
1. Know thyselves. If you are a couple who bickers over which way to hang the toilet paper roll, don’t buy raw land.
The path from raw land to indoor plumbing is fraught with hundreds, if not thousands, of decisions. If you can’t pull as a team over the little things, how will your relationship survive decisions like where to sink a well (that one can be worth, oh, $20,000), where to put the kitchen, do we buy or rent equipment, do we build a log house or glue it up out of egg cartons? We built hte log house to make our Bed and Breakfast dream come true.
We have several guys (one of our neighbors included) sitting around our county amidst their half-finished projects all by themselves because the little woman couldn’t handle it and ran off mid-construction. On the other hand, we have another neighbor couple who knew that they weren’t cut out for the house building process. They bought undeveloped land and put a manufactured home on it. Save your marriage (or whatever) and buy a house.
2. Know thy neighbors. You may be under the false impression that since you are moving from more crowded to less crowded conditions that you will have more privacy and that neighbors matter less. Au contraire.
When looking at rural property, you will find yourself driving down many a dirt road. If there is more than one home on that road, it is a neighborhood, like it or not. Look closely at the homes and residents on that road. If your house catches on fire or you hack your leg off with a chainsaw, do you think you can depend on them to help? Fortunately here on our road up to the Fish Creek House, we have the greatest neighbors that’d help you out in the proverbial New York minute
When we were searching the great wilderness for our dream property,we drove down some rural roads that actually triggered the theme from Deliverance in the back of my brain. Find some excuse to go chat up some of the neighbors before you buy. Introduce yourself and ask them how bad the winters are, whatever, just get a feel for the folks you may have to trust with your life and property.
3. Know thy driveway. I rarely see this subject discussed, but in the country, the length of your driveway can make or break the whole experience.
On the other hand, our driveway is a winding 700 feet long. We can’t even see the road. We love it. But we also live at about 3000 feet and see a lot of snow all winter. This is OK with us because we have good plowing gear and 4-wheel-drive cars.
It also cost big mo ney to put gravel on that much driveway, which is necessary in our area if you want to use your driveway year-round. We have a neighbor who has been out here for years who had to park at the end of his driveway half the year due to the snow and mud until just last year when he got a 4-wheel drive. A long driveway is great for privacy and air quality, but if you actually want to use it, it will cost you.
4. Don’t share. If you are in such a hurry to move that the only way you can afford it is to “go in on” some property with another buyer, don’t. This is a recipe (pardon the pun) for disaster.
5. Kill some trees. We are tree-huggers who moved to the woods. As we wandered around gawking at all the pretty trees, we decided where to build our first building, a 24 x 40-foot shop. By now, we were one with the trees and couldn’t bear to part with any of them, so we sited our shop where we could take out the fewest trees.
The trees were happy but now along with Fish Creek running through the property, we have a greenhouse for our organically grown produce, a barn for our horses, round pen and arena. So guests are welcome to bring their equine companions.
6. Do the wave. In the city, avoiding eye contact can be a survival skill. Congeniality can get you shot, or at the very least, panhandled.
Not so in the country. Out here, the wave is the primary social currency. Wave at everybody, whether you know them or not. If you see a guy standing by the road holding an axe dripping with blood, smile and wave cheerily. He might be butchering a deer and may choose to share some with you. If you don’t wave, you could be Mother Theresa and everyone will think you are growing something illegal in your basement. Which leads me to . . . .
7. You will earn a reputation. The reputation is a quaint concept that no longer applies to the concrete jungle. You can be any kind of scuzzball you want in the city and no one cares. In fact, some people think it’s cool and they’ll probably give you your own TV show.
Out here, you will earn a reputation whether you are a hermit who only comes out once every five years or the mayor. You can care about it or not, but if you ever want to do business, or anything else for that matter, your reputation will precede you, so consider how you want to be known. Be aware that anything you say will be held against you and it will also be spread all over town.
8. Guns are part of the culture. Guns are loud. In rural America, people have guns and they shoot them. You may no longer have freeway noise in your bedroom, but it could sound like the Battle of Gettysburg in hunting season.
One of the newer residents on our road is a pacifist-tree-hugger-gun-hater.We’re in great hunting territory and even have a shooting range where our resident NRA instructor who also tests guns and gives shooting clinics. People travel far and wide to attend these as well as to take advantage of having gunsmithing services available . If you can’t live with that concept in a rural area, you might be happier either in town, where everyone needs a toilet paper permit to you-know-what, or on a road with (shudder) codes and covenants. At least you know then that your neighbor won’t be raising hogs on the property line and shooting them at three in the morning.
9. Pets—the good, the bad, and the ugly. Out here in the hinterlands the term pet food has a whole different meaning. Sure, it’s great to live someplace where Fido can run free, but just remember, so do the Fido eaters. Let’s face it, most of us city transplants grew up on a TV diet of articulate, well-dressed animals. But in reality, cougars, coyotes, bears, and even large predatory birds are all on the lookout for a nice fat Fido or clueless cat to snack on. While the thought of Yogi Bear pick-a-nicking on my animal is too gruesome an image for me to entertain, I’ve been here long enough to know that the risk is part of the natural life of animals.
10. Electricity is not a fact of life. It is the luck of the draw.
We provincials, especially we of the woodlands, are the recipients of periodic phone and power interruptions. Trees fall on lines, aliens sever them with anti-matter beams. The utilities can even go out for no apparent reason in the middle of summer. Maybe it’s just a drill. If you have big, full freezers and no backup, you will be having one heck of a steak feed that night.
Go with the flow, is the name of the game when you’re living the country life. Fortunately at the Fish Creek House, we offer a combination of luxury with a taste of the rugged outdoors.
