Hi! It’s me, ya boy. Anygays, I decided to share this thing with y’all. It’s an au based around Ochako Uraraka from mha. Again, the ooc is intentional. Canon divergent.

As Ochako stepped through the doorway of the Hero Course’s class 1-A for the very first time, all she could think of was the sheer surrealism of it all. It made her fight to swallow an admittedly hysterical fit of laughter. These people, they had no idea who she was, or what she was capable of. Were any of them like her? Did they know what the world truly was? Did they wake up screaming because blood was in their throat and on their hands and oh god everything is just thick, iron, r e d- Or were they… normal, brainwashed, functional members of society?

It was one particular girl’s seventh birthday, and she had just received not one, but two of the worst birthday presents ever. And Ochako’s standards were low, anyway. First of all, her quirk had yet to manifest, and that was really annoying. (She knew she wasn’t quirkless, however, her family had checked that at the doctors) But that fiasco really wasn’t the important thing. The important thing was that Suma, Ochako’s older sister and only sibling, wasn’t going to be around as much. Because the Hero Commission thought it would be okay to give her an opportunity to be a hero.

And watching them is pro hero Todoroki Shouto, who absolutely, without a doubt, does not have a crush on Deku. So I spent the last few weeks going on a My Hero Academia fanfiction reading binge and here's some of my recommendations!

All It Takes is One Good Friend: An anthology fanfic where in each chapter, a different character meets Izuku Midoriya (usually but not always due to an exploding firework truck), becomes friends with him, and helps him deal with Bakugo's bullying in the process, often with hilarious results. Some examples include Iida becoming a delinquent in order to control delinquency at Aldera, Overhaul and the Shie Hassaikai taking over as the school's teachers, Pony challenging Bakugo to a spice off, and Kota punches Bakugo in the nuts so hard it ends up killing Muscular via the butterfly effect. For anyone looking for fun crack, sweet friendships and occasional seriousness, this is the fic for you! (Warning: not for fans of Bakugo).

The Future Briefing Island: Izuku, his friends and his teachers wake up on a mysterious place with a mysterious woman, who has something they're very interested in seeing. A "characters watch their own show MST" style fic differentiated by having an actual plot outside of its premise. Highlights include Izuku getting therapy, Nezu using the mystical realm they're stuck in to troll his students, and the most awkward sex ed lesson ever, starring Midnight.

Cain: After the Sludge Villain incident, Bakugo finds Izuku a bit later then he did in canon, and gets to overhear All Might offering Izuku One for All. He takes it poorly, very poorly, and decides to do everything in his power to prevent "shitty stalker Deku" from becoming All Might's successor. This fic takes pre-character development Bakugo and plays it for horror. It gets legitimately scary at times, especially since we're restricted to Katsuki's POV throughout the fic. A well written story with terrifyingly unhinged unreliable narrator, this is my recommendation for anyone looking for something more intense. (Warning: very not for fans of Bakugo).

Ignited Spark: In a world where Izuku manifested a Quirk, he gives up his dreams of being a hero after a horrible accident until a chance encounter with All Might leads him to become a part of the great Hero team Japan has ever seen. This is an elseworlds/alternate universe fic where everything is different: Ochako is Izuku's childhood friend, Kendo is the next wielder of One for All, Nejire is a part of Class 1-A, Tenko Shimura was rescued from the streets and became a hero, and that just scratches the surface of this story has in store. There are a few AU changes I'm not a big fan of but that could be just me. It's a very long fic and I'm still only about halfway through, but I'm recommending it anyway because of the well written prose and action sequences, intriguing re-imaginings of My Hero's cast, and an excellent dynamic between the three leads. (Warning: gets a bit nsfw later on)

rock'n'roll buckaroo: Kaminari and Shoto create the My Hero Academia version of Buzzfeed Unsolved where they talk about superhero conspiracies. This ends up butterfly effecting into the League of Villains becoming famous YouTubers. Another fic with a good mix of crack and feels.

to convince what joy can bring: A huge cold snap spreads across Japan and poor Tsuyu can barely deal with the temperatures. Fortunately, her friends are there for her. A cute fluffy, Tsuyu centric story.

Rules for 1-A: Aizawa gets sick of dealing with his class of chaos children, so he makes a list of rules for them. What seems like a by the numbers fic is enhanced by the genuinely funny jokes within. Lines like "Todoroki: You're not allowed to set a garbage can on fire and bring it to parent-teacher conferences in place of your father", "I have no desire to explain what a thot is to All Might", and "When someone asks you to pass the salt, please pass the salt, do not produce a hand-written list of every complaint Bakugo has made about Midoriya and begin reading them aloud in a whiny voice," make this fic a laugh riot from start to finish.

Things That Haunt Our Hallways: While on a class trip, the 19 kids of 1-A (Mineta doesn't exist here lol) get hit with Fear Toxin, and it's up to Aizawa to save them. A very angsty fic exploring the fears of the kiddos and lots of Dadzawa and Dad Might as they comfort their students. Recommended for those who love hurt/comfort.

old game (new rules): Jiro is starting a new life in UA and she's determined not to let anyone get close her, not after last time. Another angst fic about dealing with internalized homophobia and trauma from being bullied in middle school. A must read for any fans of Kyoka.

fs in the chat and other forms of emotional support: Ochako learns her friend is a lesbian and decides to set her up with one of her buddies. What follows is pure horny crack as Ochako, Jiro, Mina and Camie fight over Momo and talk about lesbian sex on Discord. Slightly OOC but funny nonetheless.

He's Mine: Ochako activates yandere.exe, Izuku's a little too into it and everyone else is terrified. I actually joked about Ochako being a yandere in my liveblog, so I was amused by this fic. Hope you like it as much as I did.

soulmates die ten years apart: A tragic story about a hero losing her life in the line of duty, and Izuku's grief. I read this when I was having a bad mental health day and it kinda fucked me up. Have some hurt/no comfort.

Colors of You: When Bakugo and Kirishima's relationship gets outed, the kids of Class 1-A come together to let them know they aren't alone. A story about realizing things about yourself and queer solidarity.

It's Called Polyamory: One day, various people from Class 1-A end up seeing Izuku, Kaminari, Momo and Jiro out together in public, and end up in a huge debate about who's in a relationship with who. Little do they know, everyone's right.

Her truest reflection: During the USJ attack, Izuku is hit by a Quirk that makes transforms your body to match your inner self...and gets turned into a girl. As she adjusts to this change, all the girls in 1-A collectively go "OH NO SHE'S HOT!" A sweet emotional story about Izuku learning to love herself, and her six future girlfriends loving her.

his hair's a mess and he doesn't know who he is yet: Kaminari comes into possession of a dress while dealing with some issues, and ends up learning a few things about herself in the process. A good fic about self discovery, friendship, and dunking on Mineta.

Hulk-akure: Toru is shredded as fuck. That's it that's the fic.

it was a grave yet bore no stone: Class 1-A finds out Izuku accidentally leaves his notebook at school while he's visiting his mom, and discover a huge secret about their classmate. Featuring Class 1-A actually getting to react to One for All's existence and be supportive without being interrupted by the plot (cough canon cough)

how to destroy a man and get two dads, a guide by Izuku Midoriya: After learning about Todoroki's backstory, Izuku decides to torment Endeavor by flooding the internet with Omegaverse fanfic of him and All Might. Hilarity ensues.

Fear No Evil: This fic takes the relatively common fanfic concept of All for One being Izuku's father, and takes it in an interesting direction by having Izuku be abducted by Humarise, forcing All for One to team up with All Might and Aizawa to rescue him. The novel and unique premise alone is worth reading, and it contains a lot of fun back and forth between the reluctant allies and well written tension as Izuku tries to survive a cult of genocidal fanatics.

"Young kid, powerful Quirk he can't control, so they think it currently only works in extremes. So his Quirk makes someone feel the same as they had felt during their best memories. Or, rather, at their worst." That's funny, Izuku thinks. He doesn't feel anything at all. Izuku gets hit by a wayward Quirk during a rescue, and is left to deal with the repercussions.

goddddd this author's aizawa...it was so so hard to choose one fic to rec bc they have so much incredible stuff, but i really really like the dissociation depiction here!

Wrapping his own arms around himself as he trembles in the storm of his despair is as close as he’ll be able to get to comfort right now. “It hurts, it hurts.” He doesn’t want to have to do this alone. He’s so tired of having to push through pain alone. It’s something he’s been doing all his life, but can’t he, just once, have someone to hold him up when he stumbles? Just once. That’s all he’s asking for.

i feel like this fic was designed in a lab to make me specifically go insane. such incredibly powerful hurt/comfort & exploration of how it feels to never let yourself have comfort

Shinsou once told Class 1-A that he didn't intend to make friends. He didn't realize that: 1. Midoriya took that as a personal challenge; 2. Midoriya always achieves his goals no matter what; 3. Becoming friends with Midoriya inevitably involves bonding over surviving villain attacks. The school gym is being attacked by a villain whose Quirk makes you hallucinate your worst fears, and it's somehow come down to Shinsou to save the day. Welcome to the Hero Course!

this author has so many incredible shindeku fics, platonic and romantic (this one in platonic). i adore their shinsou and this thoughtful exploration of his integration into 1-a and the world of real villain attacks

Even through the haze of panic, the feeling of glass in his lungs and throat as he struggled to breathe when he saw his name in 20th place at the end of the quirk test, Izuku still knew one thing with brutal clarity. It’s not possible that he was in last place. And if Aizawa-sensei was willing to tamper with his score on the quirk test, then he’s probably willing to do the same with Izuku’s grades. And if Aizawa-sensei is willing to do it, the other teachers at Yuuei probably are too. Hence his now established practice of checking his graded work against Iida’s.

i love this author's aizawa so so much and it was hard to choose one fic to rec, but i adore this creative manifestation of how izuku's history with schools/teachers could manifest

Sir Nighteye doesn't think Izuku has what it takes to be a hero. He especially doesn't think Izuku should have been chosen to wield One For All. That's okay! Really! It is! It's hardly the first time Izuku has had people trying to stop him. He'll be fine. He can handle this. Tsuyu and Ochako think differently. They watch his stress levels rise and his self-confidence fall, and they don't like what they're seeing. Perhaps, it's time for an intervention.

I would like to know what almost went into the most recent chapter of FtE. I loved the chapter even though I didn't comment. I try to comment and then I wind up staring at the comment bar going what do I say and then I don't comment i_i

Details that almost made it in/why something happened:

Originally Bakugou and Momo were supposed to interact, with the plan later on being for Momo to offhandedly mention that 'oh met this kid name so and so during work study week' and changed my mind, finding it better that Bakugou only saw Momo from a distance, so to say.

Originally the fight with Overhaul was going to come from Izuku's POV rather than Mirio's. Mirio and Nighteye weren't supposed to get POVs but then they had shit to say. I will also say I had *not* originally planned on having Mirio overhear Nighteye in context of OFA, but deemed this a good plan and the best means of justifying 'hey why would Mirio take two kids out on patrol undersupervised?' Since I do feel the likelihood that provisional licensed heroes are allowed to take interns who *lack* licenses out on patrols low.

Monoma Aoi was supposed to make an appearance. She was the originally planned on figure glaring at Gran Torino's shoulder at Nighteye, but I changed my mind. As is, I've decided to leave her as a background reference figure, with a different character taking a planned appearance of her's

I actually almost completely rewrote the chapter. The original version had different POV structures, including a plan of having a Katsuki POV break between everyone's internship POVs but changed my mind. I felt it worked better to give him only the small one he got and in a sense the difference between a student following his mom around for a week in a civilian job versus the 1-A crew. I will say the next chapter will be much more Bakugou centric.

Shouto is right in his POV that Endeavor is brooding on something. He's brooding on Legacy's speech and her point about 'this is not a game, and we are more than numbers' since well.... her comment is making it roll around in the back of his mind his obsessiveness over a *number* rather than what he's actually *doing*. So that also is partially why he says what he does to Ochako in her POV.

Though he did make her the Sports Festival offer due to being genuinely impressed with how she did.

The original chapter title was 'Teenagers Scare the Living Shit Out of Me' but I didn't feel it fit when I finally finished the chapter.

I'm getting really amused by people not picking up on the second pop culture reference in why I called Dumas Corporation that. Like the boys won't from an in-universe perspective but if you think on it I hope you guys guess from an out of verse standpoint.

I had way too much fun having Monoma and Izuku hit the nail on the head with Shigaraki.

1-A is in fact cursed.

Star Heart only was sent back to Europe (in particular the jail she's in, the Inferno, is located in Italy and yes it's the exact reference you're thinking of leave me alone I like Dante) because she is an EU citizen, is already *convicted* in the EU and frankly the HPSC doesn't want to deal with her. The way she was kept in the short time she was in Tartarus before transfer was a result of them not being entirely sure how to handle her Quirk if tried using it in her cell. I do seriously wonder how in canon Overhaul would have been kept contained if he still had arms .

I'll answer these together:

I think that the Final Chapter was very carefully curated to ensure that all the significant shipping communities in the fandom get something, but everything can be interpreted in whichever way you want. The scenes are all pretty neutral on purpose (the purpose being is to keep the ship-centric fans hooked as they are the biggest spenders on the franchise especially once the manga/anime ends. They become the heart of future sales).

So there are bones/crumbs for almost every single shipping group that they can dress up and fill with romanticism but all of them are also just things that you can interpret as totally nothing romantic:

Eri & Kota - I feel like they are trying to appeal to the Damian x Anya kind of shippers since their handhold (cute kids - make up your own story of orphans -> childhood friends -> classmates)

Erasermic - popular ship - (perfectly angsty set-up to murder husbands getting a repeat of mourning Shirakumo's death)

Endhawks - Enji's final scene in the franchise is not with family, but with Hawks (Look at Hawks still hanging out with Enji. Rei is there if you don't like this ship.)

Spinnaraki - Spinner wrote his book! Look, wonder what's in it? (-> write your own SoL of the LoV with any ship combination that floats your boat)

Kiribaku (and Bakusquad crumbs, but Deku is also there now -> write your on fic of best bros supporting Katsuki's recovery. Any ship conbination is fine).

Izuocha (-> date? Could be. Or not. You choose).

This scene works for Togachako, Tsuchako, Iidachako, MomoIida and Izuocha shippers equally (as Ochako's mask is somewhere between Iida's and Deku's)

Todobaku confirmed chasing each other in the rankings for a decade is a beloved trope. But Deku talking fondly both about Bakugou and Todoroki can please the Bakudeku and Tododeku shippers or even the tdbkdk enthusiasts. (-> write your own fic of Deku wistfully watching his besties rise in the ranks thinking they are too busy to hang out with him while they are busting their asses off to buy him an ironman suit. Also do you think TDBK shacked up together to save on rent? Why not? And then they were ROOMMATES!!! Do they help out at Midoriya sensei's combat classes while having a crush on the cute teacher? Hell yeah! )

Bakudeku - a generous gift from Bakugou = a generous gift to the biggest shipping community. It fits all Cinderella / Forever and ever / Sugar-daddy fantasies, depending on where your romanticism lies, but it's carefully curated to fit into the platonic Dadmight + Bakugou & Deku canon storyline, it works with Bakugou's atonement / redemption and his angsty question of "what did I do to you?" in the hospital. (Did he do it as a final step to set things right for the bullying or did he do it because he can't live without Deku by his side? As a friend or a lover? Does Deku take his hand? Are they hero partners? Just the two of them or a bigger agency? - this is all up to you!)

But it's also developed by Hatsume and Melissa (if you like straight ships) and in fact a joint contribution by Class A - (So yeah - let your imagination run wild. I did. )

Ghost Tenko!!! - this is not as popular as TogaChako because of the age gap - but look!!! now they are both adults! They could be a ship if you wanted them to be?

Final panel - the big dilemma of where to place Deku?

BKDK? - maybe it would be too much and alienate other ships.

Ochako? - no, can't risk losing the bkdk crowd. (But she can look at him)

I know! TDDK - they are still a pretty popular big ship but also just sweet friends. Very inoffensive. Chill. Both Bkdks and Izuochas can breathe a sigh of relief and TDDKs can get a nice little crumb.

(Hey, why not also make this a Kacchako crumb and MomoJirou crumb and ....look it's Class A - we all love them!!!!)

Anyways, maybe I'm too cynical, but it seems to me that this ending was carefully curated by the marketing team to ensure that there is one resounding message here:

this applies to what she wants too, and it's also not like Horikoshi can do what he wants exactly, there are a lot of contract and marketing issues in this, but I don't think a BKDK would be able to understand any of these things

I mean, big words from someone who pretends that she knows hori personally and claims that they are soulmates or some shit and thats why she knows everything hori thinks and thats why she also knows that bkdk is canon (Im not kidding here, thats what she posted once on twitter) and despite that she already confirmed multible times that she doesnt even read the manga in the first place, except bakugou centric chapters and dares to call herself a "mha analyst".

I really wonder if she will write the same thing again as soon as the manga ends and her stupid fanon ship is once and for all debunked! Because what I KNOW is, she will have the biggest meltdown ever and rant about hori trolling bkdk shippers or comming with excuses why hori couldnt make it canon despite that hori could give a wet fuck about any kind of shippers ESPICIALLY bkdk shippers since he already said in the past that he likes "the greentea ship" (izuku/ochako).
