#Repost per credit from & the courtesy of @corayoga via @aljazeeraenglish ・・・ I stand with Hong Kong and support their search for freedom, democracy and human rights. . . My family left during the 1967 Riots and began our search to find a new home. . . #Repost @aljazeeraenglish ・・・ Tens of thousands of people have marched on Hong Kong's parliament in opposition to proposed extradition rules that would allow criminal suspects to be sent to mainland China 🇨🇳 for trial. . The protest descended into violence in the early hours of Monday after protesters tried to force their way into the semi-autonomous Chinese territory's parliament, which is expected to vote on contentious extradition bill in the coming days. . Many of those taking part in Sunday's protest carried yellow umbrellas, recalling Hong Kong's massive 2014 pro-democracy protests, the leaders of which have been sentenced to up to 16 months in prison. . Police estimated the crowd at 240,000, but organisers said more than one million took part in what appeared to be the biggest protest since 2003 protest against a proposed national security law. . #HongKong #China #protest #demonstration #police #clash #riot #UmbrellaRevolution #OccupyHK . | 📷 Photos: Isaac Lawrence, Philip Fong, @afpphoto / Thomas Peter, Tyrone Siu, @reuters | https://www.instagram.com/p/B0NHMQXHyMC/?igshid=1c5j24xnbkq2i

Few months ago I've been to Hong Kong, just before the beginning of the anti-extradition bill protests. Hong Kong 🇭🇰 is the easternmost city I've ever visited and it was in my dreams 💫 since my childhood. It is one of those places between East and West with an atmosphere difficult to find in any other city of the world: it seems that the world itself has been "shaked" and then dropped on this land. You can leave Hong Kong but Hong Kong will never leave you ❣ #travelsere #travelgirl #travel #travelgram #travelphotography #travelblogger #wanderlust #instatravel #traveler #traveling #traveladdict #traveller #travelholic #photography #traveltheworld #photooftheday #picoftheday #trip #travelling #travelblog #ig #like #adventure #explore #love #sheisnotlost #asia #china #occupyhk #hongkong (presso Hong Kong) https://www.instagram.com/p/B1W19DUCj-6/?igshid=1627786votbkg

#OccupyHK was another common hashtag used in relation to the Umbrella Movement. As seen in the tweets above, it was another key phrase searched for and included on relevant social media posts.

Celebrate Freedom | 112915
Hong Kong pockets of protests in major streets. People come and go, and the blur gives you the feeling that freedom is everywhere. Except of course with the myriad messages written on walls and cobbled stones, all crying for release from the shackles of a government that has, for many years, worked on censoring anything that goes out their confines of democracy. Hong Kong could be the free-est among the un-free. A friendly Chinese territory in a sea of red giants.

A pro democracy banner hangs from Lion Rock, Hong Kong. It states, “CY step down”, a reference to Beijing backed Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying. This image was posted thousands of times on social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook, following the hashtag #UmbrellaRevolution. The image above is a screenshot from a twitter account, retweeting the image with #UmbrellaRevolution and #OccupyHK to ensure the image can be found by following these hashtags on the site. This account is one of thousands who retweeted, reposted and shared this image and many others like it, all coming from different accounts of those on the ground. Although these sites are blocked within mainland China, the image found its way onto the global web and sparked a wildfire on social media. One of the main objectives for hanging the banner was not only to spread awareness within occupied areas, but to ensure the world could witness their campaign. Soon, the banner spread across the world, from London to the base camp of Mount Everest. The role that social media played throughout the Umbrella Movement cannot be underestimated. Without a platform to share information and images, such as the banner that hung from Lion Rock, the world would’ve never been able to get involved in supporting those fighting for democracy.
