The Atticmedia Bionicle game is cursed.

Firstly, what the Hell are these flying enemies meant to be? I'd guess Tarakava (from the colour-scheme and fist-pieces), but none of the rest of it looks remotely like that.

Secondly, the Toa sprites.

Look at them! Why the fuck do all of them - with the sole exception of Onua - have Haus on the backs of their heads? Why are they all the same, but tinted differently and with different weapons?

Thirdly, this obstacle is literally just the top of a palm tree.

The bosses... hoo boy the bosses...

The game is a Mode 7-like back-view scrolling shooter, and while these things look kinda terrible in this image, they are actually kinda cool in the game itself, since they're made out of layered sprites (you can't really see it in the picture, but this one - the first one - is essentially Onix from Pokémon but with the head of the bugs from MNOG, and each segment is a different sprite). However, both of the ones I've fought had really annoying-to-dodge attacks, and I haven't made it past the second level.

Also there isn't any music and every object-type has one sound each, and - on a non-sound note - you can't aim up or down, so you have to jump in order to hit flying enemies.

So how does it look in action? Well, here's some footage of a single playthrough.

Hi, guys! Before anything I just want to add here that this is how I do my gifs, I’m not a professional and there are a thousand ways to make gifs, this is just one of them. I really hope I made everything clear, but if you need any help or correct me in something, just send me an ask! I’m always open to learn and help <3

You’ll need:

FRAPS

Photoshop

The Sims Any game you want!

Step 1. After downloading FRAPS you will open it and go to the “Movies” page and check what your hotkey is (maybe when you click it a window will open saying that your video player is not compatible with the video type, ignore it), mine is F9 (I think is the default), but you can change to whatever you want, just don’t put any used hotkey like esc/tab/windows key, this kind of stuff.

Obs: for FRAPS to work you need to always have it open simultaneously with the game (you can open it while you are in game in case you forgot, that’s not a problem).

Step 2. Once you go in game (with FRAPS minimized) you will see some numbers on one of the corners of your screen, it shows that FRAPS is on baby (if nothing is showing try press F12 or F11).

Step 3. Ok, now you go where you want to make your gif, you can turn reshade on, off, tab, build mode, FRAPS works in game no matter what/where. You’re going to press your hotkey (mine is F9) and the numbers that once were yellow will turn into red, it shows that FRAPS is recording your screen, to stop the recording press your hotkey again, you will notice that now the numbers are back to yellow. Try not to wait too long to stop recording, we are doing a gif not a movie afterall ;).

Step 4. Nice! Now you can get out of your game, or minimize it, and go to Photoshop and open a new file, check on your FRAPS where your movies are located and open it in Photoshop!

Step 5. We are almost done. Check if when you opened your movie the timeline bar showed up in the bottom of your Photoshop, if it didn’t go to Window > Timeline, and choose  Create Video Timeline

Step 6. The long purple/blue bar is your whole video.

You can mess with 2 and 4 and choose where your gif will start and end and how long it will take, try not to do a long gif, long gifs are heavy, it’s harder to make it look good while have a size that can be uploaded on tumblr.

⚠ tip: edit after cropping and 400px is being a really good size to keep the quality 💛

Now just edit the way you want it to look! But know that this is not a photo so some tools might not work.

Step 7. Once you finish editing your gif you’ll resize it. FRAPS saves huge size videos, and again, they are heavy, we don’t want this. Go to Image > Image Size and resize the width to 600px (the new size is kind of optional, I use 600px because isn’t too small nor too large, but you can put any px you want here, just don’t make it huge!). Once you resize, a popup wil appear , just press ok (and now your long video bar is purple ;)).

Step 8. We are ready to save it! Go to File > Export > Save for Web (Legacy)

Step 9. Make sure the loop is set to “always” or “4ever” idk, you can press play to check the end result. Aaaand, keep an eye on the size of your gif, tumblr doesn’t accept gifs bigger than 10MB and recommends it lower than 5MB. Click on Save and we are done!

For the anon who asked if I had a tutorial on how I make gifs! I made one that covers just about everything about my gif-making process 💖

Stuff you need:

Windows 10 (for the built-in screen-recording program*) / Xbox Game Bar

Photoshop CS6 or higher

VLC Media Player

PC/laptop

*I like to use the Xbox game bar because it's straightforward and doesn't require any technical shit to make it work. It's plug and play! But if you don't have this, here are some alternatives:

OBS Studio - used for streaming and screen recording, free and open source! lots of tutorials on Youtube for beginners

VLC Media Player - all purpose media player and Youtube video-ripper, also free and open source

You’re gonna have to look elsewhere for OBS and VLC tutorials but they're not terribly hard to get used to. It's just gonna take a little extra work to make gifs that way.

I. Get a video of the thing you want to gif

High quality vids make high quality gifs so I like to source them directly from HD/Bluray digital copies as much as possible. This is how I do it 90% of the time:

1. Open the source video in my media player (I use VLC) 2. Open the Xbox Game Bar 3. Record a short clip from the source vid

I prefer to do this because it's easier to work on a short clip with a small file size in Photoshop. 

If I can't download the videos, I rely on screen-recording from wherever it's available (Youtube, Streamable, Twitter, Instagram, etc.). Any video that can play in a browser is fair game.

How to use the Xbox Game Bar to record your screen

can record videos from media players and almost any video that plays in a web browser (not sure if this works with Netflix on a browser though)

How to use VLC Media Player to rip videos directly from Youtube

doesn't always work but it allows you to find the exact address of a Youtube vid and save it on your PC like you would with pictures

most videos aren't high quality when ripped like this but when I got nothing else to rip from, I can't be choosy ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

II. Make a standard gif file

1. Open PS. Drag/drop your video in PS. The 'Timeline' window should appear on your workspace. If it doesn’t, go to Window > check 'Timeline' near the bottom of the menu

2. Make a new file with the usual tumblr dimensions (Width: 540px for 1 column posts/ 268-268px for 2/ 177-178-177px for 3, Height: up to you)

3. Drag and drop the vid in the new file then close the video file.

4. On your new file in the Timeline window, click on 'Create Video Timeline'

5. In the Layers window, right-click on the video layer and select 'Convert to Smart Object'

6. Resize the video.

7. You can move the start/end bars on the Timeline so it only includes the part of the clip you want to gif. Skip this step for now if you plan to change the speed of your gif.

8. Save your new file. You don't have to keep the PSD and source video in the same folder but I recommend you do.

III. Adjust the speed

1. Double click exactly on the thumbnail graphic of the video layer--not the layer name or the gray area around it! It should open a new window with 'Layer 1.psb' as the filename.

2. Right-click on this video's Timeline. It should show a small tab that allows you to change the speed of your gif. 60-70% gives it a noticeable slow-mo effect.

3. Since we slowed the clip down, we have to lengthen it. Drag the arrow at end of it all the way to the right until the you can't extend it further.

4. Press ctrl + s to save the changes in 'Layer 1.psb' and then close that window for now.

5. Go back to your main file (LALO 01.psd in my example) and adjust the length of the clip on this Timeline like you did on 'Layer 1.psb'.

6. Readjust the start/end bars on the Timeline so they line up with the part you want to gif.

III. Make it pretty

There is one effect that makes a gif instantly prettier and that is Smart Sharpen. Look for 'Filter' on the top menus. Click on the video layer, click on Filter > Sharpen > Smart Sharpen. 

If the scene you clipped is well-lit and if you are not doing anything fancy, this might be all you need to do. But if not, you can find every tool for color adjustment in the Layers window:

For adjusting brightness/contrast: Levels and Selective Color

For color correction: Color Balance, Selective Color, Photo Filter and Vibrance

For cleaning up artifacts and reducing noise in nighttime/dark scenes: I use Selective Color and turn up the black anywhere from +5 to +15

IV. Save the gif

I usually do a bunch of tweaks here and there before I save the final gif. I go back to adjust the speed, to recolor or change the length of the gif, whatever I feel needs retouching.

1. Press Alt + Shift + Ctrl + S all at the same time or click File > Export > Save For Web.

Wie installiere ich das Bitcoin 2 (BTC2) Core Wallet?

In dem Post zeige ich kurz, wie man das Bitcoin 2 Core Wallet für Windows installiert. Es gibt auch eine Mac und Linux Version, diese kann ich aber leider nicht vorführen. Die Installation sollte sich aber nicht groß unterscheiden. Das Interface sieht bei allen Versionen gleich aus! Eine Anleitung für den Raspberry Pi ist hier (auf Englisch) zu finden.

Schritt 1 — Download der .exe auf der offiziellen Website

Der Download startet nun im Hintergrund. Falls Windows meckert und Bescheid gibt, dass die Datei das Gerät beschädigen könnte, muss “Behalten” ausgewählt werden. Diese Warnmeldung ist normal und dient nur als Vorsichtsmaßnahme, da Cryptoviren/Trojaner häufig zum heimlichen Minen auf den Rechnern verwendet werden. In unserem Fall kann dies aber getrost ignoriert werden, da es sich um eine offizielle Quelle handelt und wir wissen, was installiert wird. Je nach Browser muss dies mehrmals bestätigt werden.

Schritt 2 — Installation des Wallets

Nachdem wir nun mehrmals bestätigt haben, dass es sich um eine sichere Anwendung handelt und wir diese gerne installieren möchten, öffnet sich dieses Fenster:

Dort klicken wir auf “Next”.

Nun müssen wir einen Installationspad auswählen. Standardmäßig ist dieser auf “C:\Program Files\Bitcoin2". Falls wir das Wallet auf einer anderen Festplatte installieren möchten, kann dies unter “Browse” getan werden. Für dieses Beispiel lassen wir es aber unter C: und klicken somit erneut auf “Next”.

Nun kann noch ein Name für den Startmenü Ordner gewählt werden. Standardmäßig ist dieser auf “Bitcoin 2 Core” gesetzt. Dies lassen wir erneut so, kann aber bei Bedarf geändert werden. Somit fahren wir fort mit dem Klick auf “Install”.

Nach einer kurzen Zeit ist die Installation abgeschlossen und wir fahren mit “Next” fort.

Wir wählen als letzten Schritt noch aus, ob das Wallet direkt gestartet werden soll und drücken auf “Finish”.

Nun muss noch ein Ordner angegeben werden in dem die tatsächlichen Daten des Wallets gelagert werden sollen. Dies lassen wir auf der “Use the default data directory” Einstellung, außer wir möchten die paar GB der Installation auslagern auf z.B. E und fahren mit “OK” fort. Nach der Bestätigung der Firewall Meldung startet das Wallet und wir gelangen zum nächsten Schritt.

Schritt 2.1 — Die Sprache des Wallets auswählen

Die deutsche Übersetzung hängt noch etwas hinter her, somit würde ich generell die englische Version empfehlen. Falls euer Wallet bereits auf Englisch eingestellt ist, könnt ihr diesen Schritt überspringen. Falls nicht gehen wir auf “Einstellungen” -> “Konfiguration” und klicken auf “Display” und wählen “american english (en)” aus.

Schritt 3 —Das Synchronisieren und Verschlüsseln des Wallets

Nun fängt das Bitcoin 2 Wallet an, sich mit dem Netzwerk zu synchronisieren und lädt die Blockchain nach und nach herunter. Am unteren Rand kann man erkennen wie weit der Download ist. Je nach Festplatte und Internetgeschwindigkeit kann dieser Schritt mehrere Stunden dauern, muss aber auch nur einmal durchlaufen werden.

Nachdem die Synchronisation abgeschlossen ist, sollte das Wallet noch verschlüsselt werden. Um die höchste Sicherheit zu gewährleisten, sucht euch am besten ein kompliziertes Passwort aus und schreibt es euch auf! Ein Passwort kann man unter “Settings” -> “Encrypt Wallet…” setzen.

Nun tragt ihr das gewünschte Passwort ein und bestätigt mit “OK”. Jetzt muss das Wallet neu gestartet werden.

Schritt 4 — Sichern der wallet.dat Datei als Notfall-Backup

Nachdem nun ein Passwort gesetzt wurde, kann die Backup Datei auch nur noch mit diesem wiederhergestellt werden! Merkt euch deshalb gut, was ihr als Verschlüsselungspasswort gewählt habt. Falls nämlich z.B. eure Festplatte kaputt geht, ist dies die einzige Möglichkeit um all eure BTC2 zurück zu bekommen.

Unter “C:\Program Files\Bitcoin2” (bzw. eurem eigens gewählten Pfad) findet ihr nun die aktuelle wallet.dat. Diese am besten auf einen USB Stick ziehen und gut aufbewahren. Natürlich kann auch OneDrive,... als Backup genutzt werden. Dies wäre mir persönlich aber ein zu großes (hackbares) Risiko, was nicht wirklich sein muss. Zur Sicherheit empfiehlt sich außerdem auch noch den “backups” Ordner mit abzuspeichern, da eine wallet.dat durchaus auch mal beschädigt sein kann.

Schritt 5 — Erstellen einer BTC2 Adresse und Aktivieren von Staking

Hat man nun das Wallet fertig installiert, ein Passwort gesetzt und die wallet.dat Datei gesichert, kann man loslegen. Zuerst wird eine Adresse zum Empfangen von Bitcoin 2 benötigt. Diese erstellt man unter “Receive”. Unter “Label” kann noch der gewünschte Name für die Adresse gesetzt werden, z.B. Exchange und über “Request payment” wird diese endgültig erstellt. Diese Adresse gehört nun euch alleine und ist in der wallet.dat gespeichert.

Nun könnt ihr eure Coins vom Exchange in euer eigenes Wallet transferieren. Sendet diese einfach an eure eben erstellte Adresse. Jetzt könnt ihr das Staking über “Settings” -> “Unlock Wallet” aktivieren. Setzt aus Sicherheitsgründen aber den Haken bei “For anonymization, automint, and staking only”, so wird das Wallet auch nur dafür entsperrt und es können keine Zahlungen ohne das Passwort gesendet werden.

Nach Eingabe des Passworts sollte im unteren Bildschirmrand das graue Pfeil Symbol Grün werden und euer Wallet beginnt zu staken. Dafür muss es 24/7 laufen und darf nicht geschlossen werden! Falls der Pfeil nicht Grün wird, hat euere Transaktion noch nicht genügend Bestätigungen. Wartet einfach noch etwas. Finito!

Wenn ihr euren PC neu startet oder das Wallet schließt, müsst ihr das Staken erst wieder aktivieren. Dafür einfach erneut das Wallet über “Settings” -> “Unlock Wallet” entsperren und den Haken setzen.

What do you use to edit your videos?

For the ones where it’s just me recording my screen and I’m talking over it, I don’t really edit them. I just record my screen using OBS and upload it.

Though for the Calypso speedpaint I did have separate clips and audio so I just used an old version of Windows Movie Maker (the one that used to come with Windows 7, you should be able to find a free download somewhat easily). It’s good for simple stuff like that or those VA vids I did.

Now for more complicated edits I use Adobe Premiere Pro but I haven’t had to use that one in a hot second. Windows Movie Maker is good enough since I just been doing simple vids.

We have a very tentative plan as to what we're doing Thanksgiving weekend (so tentative that I'm not comfortable checking it off until Thanksgiving has passed).
