In 2015, at 3rd St and MLK Jr Way, Meggs honored the inspiring past, present and future of Oakland. Wallflower Arts (Instagram @wfastudio) #Oakland is Meg Schwarzman who creates public mural art across the SF Bay Area and now elsewhere in the US, usually integrating representation of native wildflowers. Meg is accepting commissions! Her maternal grandmother was a botanist, and Meg says Wallflower “germinated as a pandemic art project on my garage doors -- a burst of life and color in a public space at a moment when so many of us were confined to private spaces, and when neighborhood walks were the only escape. As a physician working through that scary time, painting was a balm, and creating public art connected me to everyone who passed by. Art transforms public spaces, and maybe for a moment it also changes the people who see it.”

"KNOW YOUR ANCESTORS"

Born in Honolulu, Mike Tyau, aka Bam, has been connected with graffiti for more than 35 years. Since studying graphic design in San Francisco he has worked with some of the top video game and digital advertising companies. In May, 2018, Tyau collaborated with Jesus Rodriquez, aka Ease_Us, for BAMFest ( @BayAreaMuralFestival ) creating this eye catching mural on MLK Jr Way near Jack London Square in Oakland. Tyau says that "Besides the Olmec and Chinese motifs as ancestral guardian totems, we painted these to remind people to go to their pillars of support during these trying times. The leaves of the plants show how Mother Earth ties my background in Hawaii/Polynesia with Jesus’s background in Mexico/Central America, breaking down race, religion, color, we are all the same family."  @miketyau  @ease_us
