“OUT Projects”
This is our project for Paula’s module, Design Practice 1.
So our main objective is to create an exhibition from a folklore story. It could be any story, from any country, any time. We had the ability to chose one and then start creating our exhibition around it. My chosen story is “The Friend of The Devil” it is a Portuguese folklore story that basically consist of a men that falls in love for a women and the devil appears, claiming that he can help him marrying that women but says that “all of your children have to be mine”. Basically he is blackmailing him in order to get the human to help him getting what he wants as well. Firstly I’ve designed a few A2 posters for my exhibition using the tagline that I’ve created “Are You Willing to Trade?”. I think this tagline really suits the story itself. Then we had to create a Catalogue (Still WIP) and a Tote bag as you can see in the images. I’ve got the front and the back design of it and basically I did try to create a unique visual language to my project using all those scribbles and drawings that I’ve created myself. The drawings represent the vision of the kids towards everything that’s happening trough the story and to them. As we can totally see, kids are always drawing and most of the drawings are representation of what they see, what they live and about their surroundings, that’s why I created those devilish/horror/childish scribbles.
Still has a lot of work to be implemented into this project and I’m looking towards it every single day.

A Quick Update on what I am doing.
Lately I’ve been posting mostly other artists and art that inspire me, so today I am going to share with you guys some projects that I have been working on. I’m currently working on a project called OUT projects. That consists basically on a team that picks folk stories from all around the world and create exhibitions, to recreate the stories using visuals and sound. I choose a Chinese folk story called Bird with 9 heads, I had to create the overall concept, a description of the exhibition, a poster, catalogue, tote bag and a website.
I am enjoying this project a lot because I am exploring more with digital illustration, that is something I don’t experiment that much usually and I am also coding for the first time.
It has been a journey, coding in my head was much easier and funnier, than it actually is. Coding resumes into hours of me looking at youtube tutorials looking like “The hunchback Of Notre Dame”, trying to find out where I went wrong.
When I was thinking about the website I was getting really excited, like I can make this animation with the bird falling and blood dripping effect, but when I started looking at it more deeply and actually making the code I was like “Girl slow down, you don’t have those skills yet, chill”.
It is so frustrating when I have all these ideas and when it’s time to execute them can’t because obviously I didn’t turn into a coding genius in three months. We are using html and css and every time i speak to my best friend and ask him a question he’s like “Why don’t you just use c++? Or Javascript?” And I am like “ Do i look like I know how to use c++ bro?”.
But I mean it’s hard but it’s getting done, the lecturer helps us a lot and youtube tutorials have been my pals these days. Wish me luck.
I also have another personal project idea once I develop it more I will update you guys. 🌺
This week you can expect more of my work including traditional style illustrations and some sketches.
