As magic and gods are important to plot of Atem and affects his personality a lot, this is my little myths inspired blabber on what god he actually represents.

He was born as a prince and later became a Pharaoh and so, he was serving as an incarnation of Horus. When he sealed himself in the Puzzle, it transformed as in death - and his divinity as Horus changed to divinity of Osiris. Being influenced by Osiris and darkness hidden in Puzzle caused him to be judgement-obsessed in his first months after awakening.

It continues as such until Millennium World. With saying his name aloud, Atem embraces his own godhood. In Ancient Egyptian myths, there is a primodial god Atem who created this world by saying his name aloud for the first time. Atem is an equivalent of that god in YGO setting, when saying his name aloud recreated a world once more by chasing away Zorc for good.

He was able to arrive during DSOD because of his own powers and being able to influence present world, even if temporary and not a lot.

In ressurection verses, Atem is stripped off his divinity. To choose selfish will to live a normal life for once is to, for the first time, being born as truely human and free of gods' will.
