Native English speaker. Took Spanish in High School, but forgot most of it in the intervening years. I know enough French that I can ask for directions, hale a cab, or order a meal. I know a few words in Latin, German, Gaelic, and Hawaiian.

Something you’re proud of?

Finally getting a WIP done. Always struggled with seeing writing done from start to finish. Now A Feather in the Forest is nearing completion, I feel accomplished.

1. What is the main lesson of your story? Why did you choose it?

I'll use The Hunter, the Myth and the Cure for this!

I think the main lesson is how your past does not define your future. I didn't choose it per se, it just sort of happened due to how my characters behave and interact. Octavian in particular deals with a lot of guilt and grief for his past actions, despite some of them not being entirely his fault. During this current revision I realized this recurring theme and started leaning into it.

2. What did you use as inspiration for your worldbuilding?

I don't think there's anything specific for Valaria, just a lot of different elements that I like put together in one world. You've got humans in roughly the Georgian-Victorian Era (by our world's reference), you've got elves, also got a few original species of mine like the sang, the Draigo, and the devar. I also have werewolves (lycanthropes), this period of the world's history includes a genocide and a pandemic, yeah.

3. What is your MC trying to achieve, and what are you, the writer, trying to achieve with them? Do you want to inspire others, teach forgiveness or help the reader grow as a person?

I have three main characters: Draven wants money, mainly, and to deal with the lycanthropes, Octavian wants to find out the motives of the man who trapped him, and Reese wants to escape from captivity.

I mainly seek to entertain, and yeah teaching self-forgiveness is the main message but mostly I'm helping the characters grow.

4. How many chapters is your story going to have?

Uhhhh right now I'm working on chapter 6, but I haven't gotten to the second plot point yet so I think I'm about a quarter of the way through the original plan. Possibly 20 chapters, maybe more.

5. Is it fan fiction or original content? Where do you plan to post it?

Original content! I'm currently posting the chapters on Tumblr, and the uploaded chapters can be found here

6. When did you start writing?

2016 :3

That makes me a Level 9 writer, writing for nine years (storms I cannot believe it's been that long)

I started The Hunter, the Myth and the Cure in 2021. It's not my longest-running WIP (that would be The Watcher and The Thief, started in 2018), but I've been working at it a fair number of years.

7. Do you have any words of encouragement for fellow writers of writeblr? What other writers do you follow?

Do Not, I repeat, DO NOT DELETE YOUR STUFF!!!

Even if you hate it, you never know when you might decide years down the road to revisit a concept or idea. Also, it's good if you want to see just how far you've come.

Your brain can tell you that a piece sucks, but that doesn't mean you should get rid of it. Just bury it for a while, dig it up, and it might be better than you thought it was. You're always learning and growing, even if it doesn't look like it.

Don't give up. I believe in you ^-^

About my manuscript..

I've been working on the same story for the past 7 years (oops) and just this past week I finished my final edit--before alpha readers, beta readers, soo much feedback and professional editing of course. But it's a big step forward, it almost doesn't feel real after spending so much time and brain space on it!

For the Day 8 prompt I picked the dialogue prompt "I need more. I deserve more." This is perfect because I used it to improve on the dialogue for one scene in Chapter 1 of The Blood Cleaners. This scene is especially important to me because it's the "Theme Stated" beat of the Save the Cat! story beats. It's a flashback to where a much younger Justin makes his dream clear right before a stir of events that impact him later in the story.

Justin sat with Elena, Miriam, and Deirdre at the end of a table. Miriam sat across from him. He leaned forward. “One day, I’m going to be a blood cleaner.” Miriam slapped Justin in the cheek, as she always did whenever she believed he was lying. “I’m serious!” Miriam hit his face again. “Hey!” He leaned back. “You’ll see! Then we won’t need to live in this dump! I’ll make five times what Ellie does now!” Elena scowled. “Justin, I hope you’re joking because it’s not worth it.” “Yeah it is!” Elena shook her head. “A lot of blood cleaners die during the training.” Justin knew. It was said that the process to make blood cleaners, something called bioengineering, carried many fatalities with each recruitment season. He didn’t think it mattered when sooner or later he’d face the fate of many tunnelers - death by starvation, disease, scorpion stings, snakebites, or a work accident. “Mamá,” Deirdre said, “Justin should do whatever he wants to do. Isn’t that right Justin?” Justin hi-fived her. Elena frowned. “Don’t encourage him, Dee. We have what we need.” “Ellie!” Justin protested. “"I need more. I deserve more." Deirdre nodded. "He’s right, Mamá. Justin isn't going to help us or himself as a street cleaner. He deserves better. And he could change the whole city, not just our lives. Won't you Justin?" “Yeah, Ellie! Listen to your hija!” Elena rubbed her temples. “Regardless, we have to take one job at a time.”

Magic System Tag Game

Explain the magic system of your current WIP as poorly as possible. Bonus points if you use bullet points

I'm going to do this for Postmaster WIP!

All magic comes from space!

Magic is made of ~ waves ~ from the impact of a falling star

Soundwaves? Electromagnetic waves? Yes.

Magic waves resonate endlessly out from the point of impact

Magic waves woke up lots of stuff and made it sentient

Walking talking rock? Yes. Walking talking trees? Yes. Walking talking lizards with wings now? I guess so.

Too much magic = radiation sickness

Too much magic but not quite that much magic = mutations

Vibrations in the opposite direction can cancel out the magic

Anti-magic vibrations make people sick

So yeah, good vibrations make you sick and bad vibrations also make you sick

Nice, great design 10/10

People use magic by listening to "the song", only some people are in tune with "the song" and can channel vibrations through their bones

How does that work? I dunno...

Magic waves aren't super useful on their own, but people sure can create contraptions to make them useful, huh

Some scholars try to create artificial magic waves, with mixed results ("mixed results" here is code for "aberrations hitherto unknown to man")

Prolonged use of magic by people who aren't naturally "resonant" can lead to damage to bones, muscles and nerves, causing permanent physical and neurological disabilities

Again, great design 10/10

TLDR: space sound radiation magic is probably bad for your health
