Wild Life Session 5 Summary
Below the cut are major spoilers (the wildcard, deaths, ect.) and a lot of text; you have been warned,
Wild Card: Trivia Robot!
Lightning - that only you can see and hear - will strike when your trivia robot is summoned. You have (5 hard/4 medium/3 easy) minutes -starting when you read the question - to answer a multiple choice trivia question about the Life Series, 3 lvls of difficultly (easy has 3 options, medium has 4 options, hard has 5 options) + you CANNOT type in chat when you have a quiz. Time remaining is displayed on a UI after you look at the question. If the robot is unable to path to its intended target to ask the question I believe it will teleport to them... but not AFTER the question has been asked so there was a good amount of robot hiding and heists.
Each player is asked around 5-6 questions throughout the session, in intervals of around ~30 minutes
Correct = rewards you can't get elsewhere similar to succeeding a SL task (NOTE: Rewards can ONLY be picked up by the one who answered the question)
Fail = bad things spawn a mob OR negative effect:
Run out of time = VHSnail will spawn and hunt you down until your next question, 70% speed + no linked breath meter

Note:Cherri states that the quiz was compiled by cocoabats, cherrifire, lew, applestruda, zera hopepetal, xmaruu and hoffen; this makes so much sense. A lot of the questions are very based in fandom knowledge... (and there's a lot on Martyn and Ren specifically, lmao) and I would be very confused and slightly spooked if Grian wrote all these questions (especially after viewing his Session 5 episode)...

It's quite simple really, the questions you call easy are actually rather difficult that is all there is to it. Please give this group more difficult and intellectually stimulating questions that yield better rewards (so that they may stop embarrassing themselves by failing at the simple stuff) Grian can end up getting to the right answer after a little but is just as prone to forgetting or misremembering, Skizz is rather good at the Trivia but keeps getting stumped by the Double Life questions or ones he wasn't there for... Mumbo... didn't answer a single question without asking someone else for their answer; only 2/6 of his Trivia were from seasons Mumbo was in.

Easy question were easy and Hard ones Hard, similar to the GGGG's actually. Funny enough these two almost had reverse difficulty, where Martyns questions started out hard and ended easy and almost vice verse for Ren.

Lizzie saved from dying by the quick regen from suspicious stew. Also I think Gem and Joel have somehow convinced themselves that Lizzie is on 5 lives and not 4, or more likely they missed her earlier death to Skizz (In Wildlife: only Skizz has killed Lizzie, only Tango has killed Joel, only snails have killed Scar... with no snail wildcard is Scar immortal? hah)
Lizzie needs help managing these two and their snail kryptonite, they are so good a lot of things BUT... Scar and Jimmy cannot survive vs. snails for the life of themselves: it requires patience and spacial awareness... and is boring, tedious and easy yet deadly to forget... you see the issue here.
Maces one-shot one durability wonders: Pearl got a mace right before the session ended for some shenanigans next session, I think Tango still has one? The one Mumbo got is now in Scars hands. Does Skizz still have his?
BigB getting "cured" of being a creaking last session like it was just some seasonal flu is hilarious, meanwhile Scott is leaning more into it... well as much as Scott skins do, w/ a vine in the hair and eyes on his back. The dichotomy is funny.
Scott trying to convince himself as much as his team to not do the Scott thing(tm)... but its such a good strategic play to do so: erases the target from his back + takes pearl off red and makes it so she doesn't have to kill 1/2 remaining dark greens to live... he ends up sacrificing himself again, lmao
Cleo getting into their love for arson by burning Gem's barn in retaliation for being luring into a trap... it gives Cleo so much serotonin to watch the world burn. Also Scott joins in the arson and chaos by burning Ren and Martyn's treehouse... stick things, and just deciding to enable his teams chaos... You know that one meme w/ Cleo & Scott holding gremlin Impulse & Pearl on a leash? Then Cleo joined the gremlins... now, I think they are unleashed, (I think it's always been that way, some are just better at practicing restraint than others)
Etho promising eternal loyalty to the GGGG's for a trident of all things... channeling the sad dog//wet cat energy. Also BigB weaving in and outta good favor w/ the GGGG's while building rapport w/ Renwood mound, and Ren trying to recruit Lizzie and remaining in fear of Pearl. Grian and Scar having a complicated relationship(tm). Gem and Pearl and their drama for the sake of Gem wanting drama. Tango being a menace to Joel & Skizz, Etho to Scar (and vice verse) Bdubs? Not sure actually, I think he's been trying to play it safe after loosing 3 lives to snails.
Impulse channeling that nervous and perpetually suspicious (he himself and of others) vibe this entire season b/c he's been burned by betrayal so much is a mood. In fact the entirety of the GGGG's and their trust issues and stance on betrayal being those who betray the least but are betrayed the most... ah the narrative is satisfying either way it goes
Grian is actually fairly bad at Trivia, Scar is pretty good but not infallible but either way not a lotta people trust him, Martyn's answers you should take w/ an ocean of salt (unless you are Ren or he sounds unsure)+ like... he doesn't know the answer most of the time but is VERY good at sounding like he knows the answer and often wants to get it wrong for the other, Gem (she got all of them right) and Mumbo got a lot right for not being in a lotta session due to good question luck and others helping
Renwood mound turned to the kiddy pool -attempting to rebrand to the Paddle Pals- after burning down and is that much safer for it... also Ren found his schrödingers horse. Also both of them going out to get answers for the other is so funny.
When Mumbo goes out Pearl, Gem and Scar all instantly OptiFine zoom-in on Grian in his tower: Pearl mention he looks like he's standing there in "stunned silence", Gem says "Grian is definitely grieving - right now" and Scar says "Oh he's crying in his tower like Rapunzel, look at his little blond hair. Awwww look at his little head he's moving around all sad-like"

I honestly don't have much for the intro because, as typical, it's more suited for the review portion, but let me just say...it's pretty damned promising, and I have a temporary spiked interest in mimic octopuses...octopi?....octopuses; it'll make sense later, I swear, but let me just say this.
MIMIC OCTOPI...octopuses?...ARE SO DAMNED COOL? Like, it's quite literally what it sounds like. It mimics the behaviors of other marine animals, and damn do they mimic a lot of those things! They can mimic jellyfish, sea snakes, crabs, flatfish, shrimp, sealions, gah damned seaweed, fucking sea sponges-- like apparently it is a lot, and they are damned cool, man. I love these things. We stan the thaumoctopus mimicus -- lmao just remember that long, scientifically correct word; that was literally intentional, not just a random name drop.
But enough of that, because you know what has my interest more? This game, and I am excited to tell you about it. So, as per the usual, I will tell you as much about the game as possible without ruining the game itself, and trust me, you're gonna wanna play...but this also may be a bit hard to make spoiler friendly. We're gonna thug it out, and make it work, though!

So boom.
It's the end of the day, and we're trying to kill the last bit of time that we have left before we go home. If you work yourself, then you know that I'm talking about that weird ass "It's too late to start working on something (nor do I want to) but I still have like a smooth 8 minutes before I clock out". That being said, we do the only logical thing and scroll on social media for a bit. We're in the middle of reading a post/news article, when this pops up:

Well hello, handsome! Ain't no way we're just working with someone this fine. His name is Nalis, by the by, and I'm gonna get back on track now lol.
So, we exchange a little bit of small talk before one of our other co-workers come up and pretty much yanks him away for some more work. Now, the thing about this is, the co-worker was acting pretty out of character. Like, she was just in a pretty ill mood...but then her personality totally flipped when she was talking to us, and Nalis just shoots us this look like "...the hell is going on with her?". But it's like whatever, because Nalis and her are part of the epidemiology team at our work, and we just figured that the stress was just starting to get to her due to the building cases.
Anyways, with our interaction with Nalis cut short, we clock out and head on home. While walking into the building, though, we run into this adorable, blushing mess of a man

Remember that long ass scientifically correct word I gave you? Thaumoctopus mimicus? Everyone, this is Thaumo. Thaumo, this is everyone. See? Told you it'd matter later lol.
Anyways, as expected, we get locked into some small talk, and Thaumo takes the plunge and asks for our number under the guise of "neighbors looking out for each other". ...Yeah, no, naur, that's all right.
We make it quick, shut him down, text the bae friendo, and go in for the night. The next day rolls around, we mess with Nalis for a bit, and...something quite curious happens.
Remember our co-worker that was acting weird yesterday? Well, she comes in, and we check in with her about yesterday, and she just--

Now, this wouldn't be an issue if she was scatterbrained or something, but she isn't in the slightest. Even when she's tired, she has a damned solid memory and would've definitely remembered something like that, so her simply forgetting is not likely or even probable. Something is very clearly off, but we're not entirely sure of why yet and before we can question it more, she leaves to go to her sector of the building.
Some hours of doing work later, it's around lunch time. We didn't bring our lunch today, so we sit for a moment to figure out what we're gonna do, but Nalis comes around the corner just in time. We make eye contact, but he doesn't really say much, and he looks...different somehow. We brush it off though and ask what he's doing about lunch and if it's cool if we can join him and...

Oof...okay, maybe not.
Despite this though, he fixes his face and tells us it's cool and invites us to go to the vending machine with him. Even still though, he's acting really weird. Like, he's being kind've withdrawn, he's being lowkey insulting, he's spewing all this weird shit about ethics and death, and his whole vibe is just extremely off. It's so bad that we don't even feel comfortable let alone safe with him being around us. I think he lowkey picks up on it though because then he's all "Just pretend that this conversation didn't happen", and it's just, lol what?
But bump it, we bail. We leave him in there, and thankfully, he gave us an exit to do so.
More time goes by, and the phone starts blowing up about some new hire. Well, let me rephrase that. Not a new hire, but someone that's pretty much going to be making sure that we're using the money that their company is giving us to good use and, wouldn't you know it--

That very individual is Thaumo, and he's going to be hanging out with us throughout this whole ordeal. Granted, this isn't entirely bad because the things that Nalis and his team do are extremely confidential, and we're quite literally left out of everything, so it's lowkey nice knowing someone else isn't going to have the full picture about what's going on either. Speaking of Nalis...
The asshole popped up at our desk a few hours later. Of course, we're not as happy to be around him, and he's trying to pry about why. This lowkey pisses us off because he's taking that whole "This conversation didn't happen" shit too literal, and it's like, bro, be fucking for real right now; this shit is not cool. Like, don't gaslight me and act like you weren't acting like a complete donkey during lunch.

"Didn't see us at lunch"? "No time for a full..."? Ayo, what the fuck man? First our coworker, now Nalis? What the fuck is going on with this???
Nalis helps us come to the conclusion that we had likely fell asleep and just had a super vivid dream. We don't fully believe this, but we literally don't have any other form of proof that would suggest otherwise. Either way, we calm down, Nalis reassures us, and we part ways with us going home and him back down to the lab.
That day ends and the next one begins in which Nalis makes a new group chat with Thaumo in it and without the boss, and Nalis is like "Arcade?". We decline, though, and so does Thaumo. We spend our lunch break with Nalis more comfortably this time, and the rest of the day proceeds like normal: uneventful. Well, that is until we're about to head home and receive this text:

Now, for some context, SWSS is Sea Star Wasting Syndrome. Remember that article that I mentioned in the beginning? The one with the body? That's what we were reading about, and it's pretty deadly. As I promised, I'll explain a bit more.
The world that we live in, people (can?) have animal associations, and those associations can be either strong or weak -- most people's are weak. That being said, naturally, the people who are suffering from SWSS have associations with sea stars, which is why Nalis was like "even though you aren't susceptible" because that's not our animal association. This also explains the animal contact photos/pfps, if you were wondering about that at one point, as well.
Anyways, we just think about how much SWSS sucks, and we proceed to clock out and take an alternative route home. Well, that kind've goes left because on this route home we still run into trouble. Admittedly, it was by our own nosiness, but it was trouble nonetheless.
To make a long story short...nah, I'm just fuckin' with ya lol. I ain't gonna tell ya.
To be real with you? I literally can't tell you because it'll be, what I feel, is a major spoiler, and there's no way for me to finesse it and tell you what happened without it completely spoiling it...even though I'm pretty certain you can read between the lines and see what's going on.
Just in case you didn't catch on and want a little more insight, I'll tell you this much: Remember that we live in a world where people have animal associations, meaning certain qualities, appearances, and abilities can be adopted; Thaumo has a strong association with his animal...
Again, I'm pretty sure you can read between the lines, but even still, you think you might know what's going on just off that, but you honestly have no clue, because also remember...

Okay, so admitedly, this review is LONG over due, because I played this months ago and just never finished the review for it, but I am so excited for this game to be completed!
The story itself is so interesting, and the fact that-- ah, I can't tell you but damn it, just, if you could still figure it out without me saying it or you could read between the lines, I'm just really geeked about this, and I want to see how everything pans out.
Like, I know that the content warning included gaslighting, but I didn't know that it meant like IRL! Like, I was -- oh my fu -- I can't really tell you that either! This is actually frustrating, not gonna lie lol.
Like I've mentioned, I am fairly confident that you can tell what's going on based on what I gave you despite me not explicitly saying it and doing my damndest to tip toe around it...but just know that that whole "gaslighting" content warning is applying IRL for me right now. Like, I have so many questions, and I demand that this game be finished so that I can get them answered!
The other wild part about this game, though, is that, if you actually go back and read it after getting some more information, there's actually allusions as to what's going on in certain scenarios! It literally made me go "Ohhhh now that part makes more sense! ... Yo, that's crazy". Like, it's honestly pretty well done as far being just discreetly enough to have you kind've gloss over it, but you can definitely pick up on it if you pay attention to it, especially if you go to replay it for the other endings.
Now, let's talk about the pacing. Pretty solid and well done, in my opinion! There were definitely some parts that were definitely more "storytelling based", but it didn't drag on for long, and the storytelling bits made sense and were necessary. Admittedly, it had somewhat rushed transitions to certain parts, but I still thought it flowed pretty damned well in all honesty. Then again, that's what happens when you have an interesting storyline, and people are more interested in the story itself versus the "You wake up the next day, and head to work after getting ready" transition.
Then again, I honestly prefer it to be that versus "You wake up. You go to the bathroom to brush your teeth. You look at your teeth. Ick. You get over the ick. You walk out. You go to the kitchen. You open the fridge. You reach it. You grab the mi--" Like oh my Gods, bro, I get it. Please get on with it. It's like, I get it because it's necessary, but like get to the point. That just kills the momentum to me, or if there wasn't any momentum to start with, it just makes the story/transition drag for longer than it needs to. Speaking of making things longer than needed and getting on with it...
If it's not obvious at this point, I definitely recommend this game. I recommend it so much that I will be providing you the link right here, right now, multiple times in a row. So just...ya know...click on any of those and download it to your computer, brah. All jokes and silliness aside, you'd be seriously missing out if you don't, because the story is there, and I find it super interesting. Also! If you'd like to, give the dev that ever encouraging and desperate "DROP ANOTHER UPDATE, AND MY LIFE IS YOURS~! Also, really love your game! You're doing really well! BUT PLEASE LET ME BANG NALIS AND THAUMO!". Also, also! I didn't see anything that indicated that they were open to monetary support, but if you find it, I'm sure they'd really appreciate the donation.

My story
My educational credentials: BAs in philosophy and creative writing from a big cheap state school, and a PhD in English literature with a specialization in environmental humanities from a small private R1. Couple years as an adjunct professor.
I trained my entire life to be a literature professor. It’s all I ever wanted. By the time I was finishing my doctorate, I had a very limiting belief that I was either over- or underqualified for any job outside academia. I was wrong.
By the time I made the decision to leave academia, I had published 2.5 peer reviewed academic articles and several magazine pieces. I also had about 5ish years of part-time communications consulting under my belt from helping run the writing center at my institution. I got a part-time social media/SEO management gig, and then used a grant to fund a comms internship at a local environmental nonprofit. Then I straight up just applied to jobs at conservation orgs on LinkedIn at a rate or 5 per week for about 6 months. I was looking for jobs in communications and education. Landed a couple interviews then got a position as a comms manager. My islander heritage ended up being relevant too bc I have a cultural insight into the regions where the org works. I’ve worked here for about a year, mostly wfh desk stuff, but I like to tag along to projects so I can take pics/do interviews/help with fieldwork/coordinate community meetings & info sessions. I still have a publishing career on the side, with 2 new articles out and a book manuscript in the works.
I do not recommend doing it this way lol.
What I would do instead
Conservation orgs have room for people with all kinds of backgrounds and expertise. If your goal is to have a job similar to mine, get lots of writing and science communication experience. Be able to show that you’ve built impactful campaigns and learn your way around SEO and communications terminology. Start with internships/social media, try and get some experience working with journalists, and have a nice portfolio of campaigns (easy way to start is an awareness campaign for a particular policy or science issue). Other creative experience is a plus (photography/graphic design/web design/UI).
Fieldwork is not that hard to get into. You can get field experience as an undergrad by working in research labs or volunteering. From there, lots of conservation orgs in your area are probably looking for volunteers or part-time workers to do field monitoring. TBH you don’t really need a degree to get into fieldwork, but the ceiling is kind of low without one. With a BS you can work your way up through an org probably to a manager level position where you could lead a field team but not direct a program. Generally, without a MS or PhD, you won’t be designing programs—just carrying them out, which can be really rewarding. You can also make lateral moves towards things like project management—coordinating supplies, transportation, methods, and problem-solving stuff.
Other ways to get into the field: orgs often contract out conservation tech companies to carry out specialized operations, like aerial monitoring and bait distribution. Getting a license for like a heavy-lift drone, an ROV, or boat stuff can also get you in the thick of it.
If you want to design and direct conservation programs, unfortunately you probably need to go to grad school. I can write up a separate post about how to decide whether to pursue an advanced degree if people are interested, but my general advice is Never Enroll In A Masters Program. Either do it as a 4+1 with your undergrad or go straight for the PhD. That’s where you’ll get experience designing your own experiments and contributing to the sum of conservation knowledge.
Extremely important caveat
You do not have to do any of these things in any particular order. It’s totally cool to work in the field for a couple years before going back for the PhD. You also do not need to link your education to your job (god knows I didn’t). My side hobbies of wildlife photography and scuba diving made me a great candidate for the job I eventually got, and they didn’t have anything to do with my degree or original career path. There’s also a million other jobs that conservation orgs have that don’t involve having a science background at all—HR, finance, admin, philanthropy, consulting, & policy analysis are huge parts of this. So are other jobs that aren’t *within* conservation at all, like journalism & social organizing.
A lot of folks I meet out here in the conservation world are on their third or fourth careers. It’s very, very normal to switch it up, try many things, land somewhere, leave, and pick up somewhere else.
All this to say: the world is really, really big. Don’t feel pressured to take the shortest most linear possible path. There are a million ways to have a good life.

The cheeky last minute UI rework
A week ago, I had Lucinius play a near-complete version of the demo build and he had a bunch of good suggestions after playing it for a solid few hours.
One part of his feedback centered around how move information was displayed. Previously, in non-battle menus, the move info would follow your cursor, and thus you weren't able to mouse over the various stats or check the description (which would have outputted to a log that isn't visible anyway).
Now I've made it so that clicking on the move icon displays the window in a static pane, letting you mouse over the various icons. Also, the description now appears in-line inside the window, regardless of where you're looking at it!
I made a whole bunch of other changes, and ahead of tomorrow's demo release (I can't believe it's finally happening), you can read about them below the cut!!

Game Review, Part 2: Lovebrush Chronicles

By the time your character finishes the Eden routes, it's become clearer what is going on and what the threat is to Earth. I believe you can read the existing worlds in any order, but I suggest not doing so, because the revelations in each world build upon each other.
The third route, is actually more like route 2.5 - Awakening, and while there is less at stake here, the stories are darker, and none of them have conclusive endings.

In "Awakening" MC doesn't leave Earth. Instead, she and each LI go to a new "virtual reality theater" and experience a personalized movie experience. The LIs are told that the experience will read their subconscious to give them a movie about a possible future. What MC knows is that this experience is actually to wake the LIs up a threat to Earth (from, well, more details would be a spoiler).
Each of the awakening stories are sci-fi, and they deal with how MC and their LI's lives have been changed by the threat. Cael too gets a story here, but for him we get a story that might be about his past.

The Awakening stories are each about a third of the length of the other worlds' main stories, and if you've got stamina saved (and in this game, you can stack up your daily stamina between reading routes, so you can indeed have a lot banked) it's easy enough to get through all of these in a few hours if you are a fast reader.
Finally we come to the main story (Lost Bloodline) that was just released a couple of days ago, and I've only read that story's prologue. This one is being released in three different parts, with part one covering Ayn, Alkaid, and Clarence's story, part two will be Cael's (I believe) and part three will be Lars'.
From what I have seen of Lost Bloodline, MC's travel to this particular world was, unlike her other visits, unexpected and unwilling, and she does not know how to travel back to her own world. This world is a lush and vibrant planet populated by people who can turn into animals.

There are four factions who have dominion over certain parts of the world, The Lord of the Light (Lars), The Lord of the Wind (Clarence), The Lord of the Forest (Alkaid) and the Lord of the Night (Ayn).

In this route, Cael will (finally) be a LI as well, but at the beginning of this story, he's searching for MC, but he realizes that he is on the right world, but at a different place in their timeline.

As you can see from this and the previous post, there is an abundance of content in this game. Besides the main story, there are event stories that happen in between (and around) main story releases. These generally alternate between stories in the modern/true world that are tied to calendar events (New Years, White Day, Halloween) and stories that have fantasy elements (a story collection in which MC is a witch, a cyberpunk story involving a game, a historical fantasy associated with the lantern festival, for example).
(Someone has nicely put together a spreadsheet of story and event order here).
Additionally, you can unlock modern day stories by increasing your affection points with the characters and by collecting gacha cards. There is also a way to phone and text the other LIs (though Cael is notoriously bad at answering calls), and get mini stories there too. I'm amused that Lars is very fond of sending gifsets to MC. Modern Lars is kind of a goofball at times.

Speaking of the Gacha... the card collection you have is what you use to advance in the story. You put these cards in an array of "battle cards" and at various points in the story, they are needed to fend off an attack:

And that brings me to one of the things I don't like about the game. The UI is very complicated, and it took me a good week of playing it before I got a sense of where everything is. Each of these areas connects to a daily task of some kind that you need to complete, or sometimes just check in, in order to pick up stamina or in game currency. It's not a simple go in and click one or two buttons. You need to hop all over the place (there's also an upstairs, and an island map that you zip through) in order to get your daily gifts. Again, once I learned where everything was, it became easier to go through it all, but there were a few days where I missed gifts because I simply didn't see that they were there.
(The good thing about training your gacha cards to level them up though, is that you can go in and program it on automatic, then go do something else for five minutes. You don't have to baby it.)
If you're still with me, here is my bullet list of pros and cons of Lovebrush.
Pro: Content, lots of content, a fascinating storyline that builds on the overall series lore world by world.
Con: Complicated UI
Pro: MC. She's great, she isn't overpowered, but she does have abilities, and generally most of the LIs respect those abilities (in face, the Eden version of Lars recognizes that she is stronger than he is and hires her as a bodyguard).
Con/Pro: Not all of the world route endings are completely happy. Winning often comes at a cost, and some endings are definitely bittersweet. Still, it adds to the tension and emotional connection to the story, but it's not like Cybird where there are happily ever afters in everything but the specifically marked tragic routes. (Not that there is anything wrong with that, I'm still an Ikesen uber, through and through).
Pro: If you make the wrong choice, you die, or end up in a time loop, or an eternal prisoner, however, this does not force you to return all the way to the start, you can just backtrack to the previous crossroad and make a different choice.
Con: If you are looking for steamy content, I haven't come across anything beyond a few kisses here or there.
Pro: That said, the stories have all been quite romantic and emotionally satisfying (and as I said, the Godheim Clarence story is gorgeous).
Pro: You get your own cat.
Pro: As you might be able to tell from the attached GCs, the artwork is gorgeous.

Today, our instructor discussed about Software Testing and Quality Assurance. Although I was a bit sleepy during the lecture, I managed to catch a few important parts of the discussion. We learned about different testing methods like Black Box and White Box Testing, and John Brooke's System Usability System (SUS). Our instructor also discussed Regression Testing, which checks if changes in the software create new problems, and System Testing, which ensures that the whole program works properly before release.

After the lecture, we had our group activity where we analyzed UI (User Interface) problems. Our group included Sean Quincy Manquilimotan and Earl Cagaanan as note-takers, while John Raynier Tejano and I focused on discussing the issues in the UI design. We looked at problems users might face, like unclear layouts or confusing buttons, and tried to come up with ways to improve the overall experience.

We were also given another task involving John Brooke’s System Usability Scale (SUS). This scale helps measure how easy or hard it is to use a system by asking 10 questions. Each question is rated from 1 to 5, and after calculating the responses, we get a score that tells us how good the usability is. A higher score means better usability. For this task, Tejano worked on solving the SUS with responses from 3 participants through google forms and google spreadsheets, while I did it manually. We added up all the scores, divided them by 3 (since there were 3 participants), and this gave us the average score, showing how usable the system was overall.

I really enjoyed the activity because we worked as a team and made sure no one was left behind. Everyone’s opinions were welcomed, and we didn’t have any arguments. I hope that when we work on our EduConnect TutorHub software, we can use the same strategy we showed today—doing teamwork and everyone participates.

Limited Life mechanics breakdown: session lengths and timer desync
I don't think I've seen anyone mention these things yet, but by looking at the final timers at the end of everyone's Limited Life episodes, they all end near a :30 minute marker, not an hour, meaning that during the first session only 2.5 hours passed in-game. The creators have mentioned 3 hour sessions recording this series, but looking at the end of everyone's episodes, the timers indicate that not all of that is spent in-game.
Additionally, the visuals and function of the time mechanic struck me as very reminiscent of Grian (and Scar and Joel's) 100 Hours Hardcore series mechanics from last year, and if that's the case, there are some slight ramifications for how the timers work in-game.
(a lot of) Thoughts on how I arrived at those conclusions and what they might mean for the series are under the cut, but the summary is this:
If this week's 2.5 hr game time isn't a one-off, the 24 hour timer would be spread out to last 1.6 additional sessions compared to if there was 3 hours in-game time, meaning the series will likely last a bit longer than the estimates I've seen on my dash. Additionally, player countdown clocks have started to and will likely continue to experience slight desynchronization from one another because the timer mechanic is stored per-player, only counting between their login/logout times.
To the first point, what does it mean that we had only 2.5 hours pass in game in the first session, and what's the impact of that?
We can't discount the possibility that 2.5 hours was a session one exclusive (i.e. all future sessions will spend 3 hours in-game). There's a benefits for this: mainly to allow for troubleshooting the new mechanic, but possibly also to offset the player timer by a half hour to add tension and time for people who are about to drop from one color to the next (ex. Skizz has 30 mins at the top of next session to prep before he turns yellow)
But it might be a simpler conclusion to adjust the 3-hour figure that the creators have mentioned. Sessions are 3 hours, but 30 mins of that time could be spent out of game. The ccs have mentioned they take a break during their sessions, and they might chat after? During someone's outro there was a chat message in game saying to hop in Discord. Either way, its reasonable to guess that 2.5 hours in-game may remain constant for this series, and may have been the case for previous series as well. I feel very weird speculating about the actual recording processes of the real people making this series, so assuming this is true I'm moving on to what it would mean for what content we will get.
If having 2.5 hours of in game time remains constant for the season instead of 3, the theoretical max # of sessions that we could have increases. A player could last 8 weeks max with draining only 3 hours per week. But with the same 24 hours divided into 2.5 hour in-game sessions, a player could survive an extra 1.6 sessions, or a total of 9 full weeks and an extra 1.5 hour session/extension.
I'm sure we won't get to ten weeks, and I don't even think we'll get to nine, but it's not impossible and it depends on how players end up using the mechanics available to them. Strong or aggressive players who take time from others and protect their own could theoretically live for longer than 24 hours total in game time, but knowing this group of clowns, (three boogieman rerolls in session 1? 9 deaths?) we've got 7-8 sessions max. I've gotten off track to game theorizing, but basically, we can slightly increase our estimates for how long this series will last if they continue to only spend 2.5 hours in game per week.
Okay, but what am I talking about with timer desync?
When Grian first posted his teaser on Instagram, I noticed that the red color and clock ticking appeared to use the same UI as the 100 Hours in Hardcore series he started last year, and the similarity was much more clear with the Limited Life ep 1 release. But because of the way the clocks worked in the hardcore series (counting only when the player was online), I was curious about timer synchronicity on limlife.
My prediction was this: the timer mechanic from 100 hours is the basis of limlife's timers, meaning that time is stored per-player, and different login/logout times are going to offset people's times from one another
I figured the best way to check would be to find a moment from late in different players' episodes where two players meet, presumably after the session break (logging out would desync timers if applicable). So I lined Pearl and Cleo's videos next to each other to find this:

:13:29 and :13:37. These screenshots are synced within a second of the same audio cue (Pearl exclaiming "Cleo!") but their timers are 8 seconds apart.
What's going on? Presumably, Grian did grab the same base mechanics that made the code tick in the 100 hours in Hardcore world from last year (similar time mechanic, he even says in that series that they used the same server). With that in mind, the way timers are currently handled in the limlife series appears to be the following:
At the top of session 1, a command was executed to start a timer on every player for 24 hours. That timer becomes that player's timer, and will continue to run as long as they are on the server. When players log out, they are not present, and their time will not be updated. All timers would have been in sync from the start until the first break, from which we start to see the discrepancies above. This is still a reasonable way to handle the mechanic, considering that the 100 hours code which is already written is tied to the player, and is likely easier to modify than rewrite. When a player dies, is killed, or gets a kill, the code can change the time attached to that player directly and give them the update.
While this shouldn't cause major changes, it also means that unless something gets built into the server to equalize player timers, or unless the code is rewritten to hold a main timer in the server which is modified per-player, we're likely gonna start to see people's timers drifting and desynchronizing much futher than a few seconds as they log at different times. We can already see it beginning with Pearl and Cleo's videos above. This system might run into issues if a player has to miss a session, as they would have to be manually lowered to balance their time, or else they'd be 2.5 hours ahead of the rest. Though maybe they won't adjust if sessions are missed, because a player with extra hours is very tempting bait for a boogeyman or a desperate red.
In proposing a change, I would suggest the server keep general time, and players store a "modifier" on their personal time. Example: Imagine 4 hours of in game time have passed and Impulse has died once. His modifier is -1 hour, so the code would call the server time (20 hours left) and his modifier to produce his time remaining (19 hours). This would solve the issues of desync from differing login/logout times, needing to skip a session or internet issues forcing a disconnect.
It's possible that an adjustment is made in the future weeks, but that would require the time discrepancies being noticed, and it actually being deemed a thing worth adjusting. I say this with fondness, but I'm not sure Grian, who's forgotten to change the server difficulty for multiple (every?) series will notice this, and quite honestly the code they have should work just fine for this group. They are all incentivized to be on the server with their clocks ticking to make content, so no one's going to cheat by logging out to save time. And considering the end of Etho's video showing the game chat, it seems like no one even logged out until at least :29 so player times are going to be close enough to in-sync, even if the numbers aren't exactly aligned.
The above analysis kind of assumes that timer desync is a problem, not a feature or a tolerable side-effect, which it very well could be. I only really see this becoming a point of contention if any players, but especially the last players standing should have their timers expire at the same time, but end up being displaced by a few minutes because one of them had logged out faster the days before. I'm personally holding out hope that the last people standing are allies who can lay down their weapons and run out of time together, but with the desync they don't have the option to go out at the same time unless they realign by coincidence.
At the end of the day though, while these guys are making content for us as an audience, they're also just having fun playing a game, and it doesn't really matter if it's perfect or not. I am gonna be delighted watching this series unfold in the hands of these talented folks over the next 6-8 weeks!

Wow, you're off Tumblr for months and the UI gets more fucked up than ever! Nice. How does Tumblr do it? Keep getting worse and worse? And yet I still come back to this website occasionally, because I'm also trash.
Residency makes it hard to keep a blog. I barely have time for household chores and hobbies, let alone ONLINE journaling when I'm also pouring out my heart occasionally on my actual, IRL written journal and trying to maintain friendships.
Anyway. Started R2. It's actually better so far, as much as I felt I was never going to be ready. Don't get me wrong, I still feel woefully inadequate approximately all of the time. But wow, does it feel good to not hold the gyne and OB pager, to not have to fight with the nurses about pitocin on the floor, to do something other than manage labor on OB days. I started on nights, which I thought was going to be a disaster, but actually ended up being fine. I think I got lucky, because usually the R2 gets blown up since they manage antepartum AND gynecology overnight, but the ED and antepartum nurses were relatively benign to me.
And just... the FREEDOM of not having to write q2h strip and mag notes, to not have to pay hawk-like attention to the strips... and the nurses and I get along better than ever now that
A) they have new intern prey to feast upon, and
B) I'm not riding everyone's ass about the strips
Literally, my LEAST FAVORITE PART OF MY JOB is being a labor intern because you're expected to make sure the pitocin keeps going up, up, up but the nurses don't always want to with a category 2 strip, but like, category 2 doesn't mean it's not reassuring, and also you can't have a baby without contractions, but there's always a "policy" for why we can't do XYZ.... and it's like... why am I even here then, just run the labor floor without me if everything is 100% policy-driven, lol. Category 2 isn't BAD guys!!! It's not always bad. And I know the strips aren't always amazing but dude.... we either pit enough we can get a baby out vaginally or they might as well get cut here and now instead of spinning our wheels with inadequate pitocin dosing.
Anyway... rant over hahaha. Ooooh I hated labor as an intern. I loved it in the beginning, but I QUICKLY, QUICKLY came to dread it for the above reasons. And now, as an R2 on OB days, my primary job will be c-sections! Which is incredible because right now I feel like I'm so bad at them. I've done a few over 20 since I started residency. Other programs have you do more as an intern, but I did end up with >200 vaginal deliveries, so I really can't complain. And like I said, my OB days blocks will be me doing 2-5 sections per day... so I'll get real good real fast. I just don't do it for awhile (nights > family planning > oncology > OB days) so I feel nervous when I'm assigned sections on nights and call, but I'll get there eventually. TRUST THE PROCESS, they say. I mean, I guess I thought I'd never figure out how to insert a hysteroscope into a uterus and chomp off an intracavitary leiomyoma, and I figured that out by the end of R1, so there's got to be something to it.
Things I still don't feel good about that I should have gotten better at by the end of R1: LACERATION REPAIRS. But whatever. I'm sure it will improve as my surgical skills improve.
Now I'm starting to stress because in the middle of having more responsibility, figuring out C-sections and basic laparoscopy, etc, I have to get research started and decide once and for all if I want to do fellowship. I've been waffling between generalist practice and MIGS for ages.
On one hand, I do like obstetrics more than I initially expected, I like that I'll have more freedom to do abortion care, and the thought of MORE training when I'm already almost 32 and have 2.5 years left of residency makes me want to vomit. On the other hand, the MIGS lifestyle is much better than OB lifestyle, I may still be able to do abortions, and I really, REALLY want to have elite surgical training. I'm sure I'll figure it out more on my gynecology and oncology blocks when I do more minimally invasive/generally spend more time in the OR. Not sure how much I like the thought of running a chronic pain and endometriosis clinic. But also... I feel like I went to a decently-tiered medical school and graduated with the assumption I would do fellowship, and to cut my training short and arguably without satisfactory surgical training feels bad. Because at the end of the day, I'm not actually sure how well general OB/GYN residency prepares you for surgery. I'm not sure I trust it yet.
C'est la vie. Back to other things. Studying hormonal contraception in patients with medical co-morbidities before biking back to my house to play MASS EFFECT 3. I'm also a pickle ball fanatic now.

i assume with computer programming you mean only programming. coding. idk how things are over there but as far as i know STEM students usually get some programming done at a basic level in their first year(s) but if you want to learn programming in a more "professional" sense you need to do computer science. welp my degree is called computer engineering but i think it's the same? similar? i hope it is
i don't think there is a programming only school because it's one of many skills you're supposed to get in the field. everyone can program. i promise there are a lot of tutorials online that do a much better work at teaching programming than many uni classes!! i know math students that have taken like 2.5 subjects on programming and do things A LOT better than half of my classmates
the thing with computer science is you need a lot more skills that just coding. maths, for starters (which i suck at lol) if you wanna understand algorithms or do anything in the AI or machine learning field. it really depends on what you'd like to do afterwards because most of the time you will end up coding some way or another. but it's sprinkled with some more stuff in between ^^
like yeah 99% of the time people associate cs with coding and just coding and as the local 4th year computer engineering student i can definitely say coding isn't everything. the first years are more code heavy because you needed to get used to the basics. but then there is documentation (class diagrams, use cases, etc.), there's everything related to requirements gathering (user stories, interviews, a bazillion documents where you need to find out what a client might want for their app), ui/ux design, project management (which is an area you might enjoy!! pretty much organazing a team and making sure everything is up to date and everyone is working) and a loooot more stuff. i can only talk from my own experience as a student focusing on software development
tldr: if you're only interested in programming mayyybe you should read into those compsci schools, see what they're offering and think if that's something you like! if you like coding enough to make an actual job out of it you might want to a) do computer science or something like that or b) learn on your own but in a deeper level. by this i mean there are many tutorials online that only go through the very basics and there are some really interesting/useful topics they don't cover or might be needed for professional work

Reinstall this game bcs my tl sometimes show me r1999 stuff and it feeds my urge to play it. I installed this game when there was like 3 days left bfore their annv update, Windsong banner. Mcm biasa, gacha game got that returnee missions n stuff. I played bit of Windsong's story: abt a researcher conducts a leyline field research at a tiny snowy town. I don't really remember the plot of main story, so need to watch some recap on yt.
Gosh i forgot how beautiful this game artstyle is, and the ui too??? Whenever i play the story, i felt like crying like damn gorgeous art they need to release artbook fr.

Im speedrunning this game okayy,, reached player level 30, leveled up 6 of my characters (Sonetto, Dikke, APPle, Lucy, Getian, Bloodbourn) to Insight II, 2 episodes for main story, settled the beginner mission etc etc. Also new 6 stars characters i got so far are Windsong, Lucy, Getian (from annv banner), Toothfairy, Sotheby, Regulus, Ezra in span of 50 pulls honestly im tweaking (OKAYY HELP wtf is going on?? ). Omg i did so much. Finished Penacony's main story, Ruan Mei's story (I hate that damn bug with passion) , Topaz's story and otw Wardance's story. Kafka is considered fully build for me (my woman hitting that 45k raw burst dmg on average), half- build Jingyuan, Pela, tralblazer, robin etc. Istg building characters in hsr is actually diabolical it takes at least 2 months per character,, 240 resins per day is not enough. Especially to farm those damn relics.
At least i got my Robin tho. (She's sooo wife 🥰🥰)
