This totally takes me back to my childhood when I used to stay up every night thinking up cars 2 headcanons and fic!!! As a kid, I was CONVINCED they were secretly keeping Leland locked up in one of the legs of the oil rig! 😭😭😂😂

This headcanon tickles my brain!! OOOH I LOVE IT!! The angst, the torture, yum!!! Omg the idea of them having faked Leland’s death to throw Finn off then secretly keeping him alive to torture him for information is something my nine year old self would have EATEN UPPPP(pfffft I’m eating it up right now XD) but yessssss Zündapp totally has history with Finn and Leland!! Like he recognized Finn IMMEDIATELY on the oil rig from like 50 feet up with the glare of the flare stack behind him and everything! This motherfucker was WAITING for Finn to get there. (And no, I don’t think Leland cracked and told them who his accomplice was. Zündapp just knows that where Leland is, Finn is not far behind.) YES YES YES!!! They totally would have found Leland after Axelrod got busted omghggg

OKAY! I have a headcanon for how Leland is alive too!! :D

So Torque was definitely on the oil rig that night that Finn came to rescue Leland. He was most likely there when they caught Leland. (I also have a hc that Torque knows Finn and Leland too and would’ve recognized him but I digress) He could’ve heard that they caught this agent so shows up and is like “hey fellas, I got this one.” So gets them to let him continue the interrogation on his own then he flips off his disguise and is like wtf Leland?!!

So he knows he has to sneak him out of there. There’s a trash compactor on board so he uses his spare disguise—which is a physical thing, not a hologram—to scan Leland and puts the disguise on a wheelbarrow or something then runs that into the car compactor. And voila! There’s a crushed up car that looks just like Leland would have! He hides Leland in another crate so he can sneak him off the rigs later then tells the other lemons “hey! Look what I did to that crummy agent! I killed him haha!” And they’d be mad cause he didn’t get any information out of him but it’s too late to do anything about it.

Then we get the unloading scene and damn, Finn had to be there and saw that so he goes ballistic and starts shooting them up but Torque can’t break his cover to tell Finn it was a mistake. Finn takes off and Torque has to run back to the boats to keep up his cover. By the time he gets back, the crate Leland was actually in is empty! But he can’t ask about it without risking his cover so he just had to act like nothing happened.

The lemons got to the crate first and found Leland. Zündapp figured out real fast that they had a traitor among them who helped him so they keep it super quiet to try and find the mole but it’s pretty easy to figure it out cause Torque was the only one who asked to be alone when interrogating him. Zündapp plans to take Torque to Tokyo to try and catch his contact then kill him.

As for Leland, they tell him that Finn was killed then throw him in the leg of the oil rig. He’s already roughed up but the saltwater down there eats him up.

The events of Cars 2 take place. Torque gets caught and killed before he’s ever able to tell Finn what really happened but they do catch Axlerod in the end. The oil rigs get cleared out and as the feds are going through them, lo and behold, there’s a little red Jaguar in the bottom of one of the legs. He’s barely alive but he’s there.

That’s so cool that we had similar ideas of what could’ve happened but totally different methods! I love that!

Omg and the train scene!!!! UGH!!!!!! That scene is so heart wrenching. I think one of the reasons Finn got on so well with Mater and put so much into solving the case is cause he related to how much Mater cares about the cars around him (though Mater shows it much more openly than Finn does.) and in the end, the case turned into them trying to save McQueen, Maters best friend: a sad parallel to the opening of the movie when Finn is trying to save his best friend and ultimately failed. (OMG CARS TWO IS SO POETIC AND TRAGIC AND BEAUTIFUL!!! HOW CAN ANYONE HATE THIS MOVIE????😱)

But back to my point: we’re shown time and time again how much Finn cares about the vehicles around him. Everyone he meets, he befriends!! From mater and Holley to the fricking crabbing boat at the beginning of the movie!! And he keeps that so so guarded. He can snap himself back into action in a second! But for that second, you can see it on his face, you can see it in his eyes. God, I need to make an entire post on Finns micro expressions throughout the film. It’s actually incredible how well the animators kept his emotions juuuust below the surface but if you pay attention, you can see them and then SIR MICHAEL CAINE, YOU DID NOT HAVE TO GO THAT HARD WITH YOUR VOICE ACTING! Oh my godddddd you’re so right with how he softens his voice. You can tell he’s dropped his act and is being sincere UGHHHHHHH and that opening scene on the oil rig when Finn comms Leland to tell him he’s there and he’s all formal but then Leland doesn’t respond and he drops the formalities, going straight to his first name and I SWEAR you can hear his voice soften when he says Leland’s name.

That’s the moment I shipped them. 13 years ago, little old me, sitting in that theater who didn’t even know what shipping was or understand any of it. But that line. The way he said Leland’s name and the look on his face when he saw what had happened to him. That did it for me.

I'm not sure if you've already answered this but could u talk about everyone's first experiences with magic?

No I haven’t and I can’t claim I have thought about it long enough to have rock hard hc, but it’s a fun prompt anon, so here we go:

Bloom:

Aside from being protected from the flames of the house burning around her as a baby, Bloom’s first conscious brush with magic was actually using her innate aspect. She has always been a sensitive kid and everybody assumed it was just some form of hyperempathy when she talked about other people’s feelings with high accuracy. But when she categorised people into colours depending on their auras, she meant it. Then as sensitive weird kids be, Bloom was picked on a lot in late primary and middle school and that’s when her temper started to show. Bloom got angry easily and it only riled up the other children more to get her to show a reaction. Before that it was mostly tears, but one memorable occasion Bloom’s control over temperature manifested with her burst of anger and she made everyone and herself develop a sudden high fever. She fainted from it unfortunately and spent the next two years transfixed by all sources of fire and flames eventually circling back on her obsession with fairies and all things magic. The older she got the less she paid attention to the colourful auras until they completely faded from her everyday sight and only cropped up when she herself felt her emotion in a disarray. As Bloom got older, other magic effects started to crop up with higher frequency, like her “magically” avoiding injuries or recovering from them super fast, or never getting burned on hot pots as the Dragonflame started to feel cramped unused in her body. When Stella was being threatened by the goblins and the ogre, Bloom’s fight or flight instincts automatically allowed the Dragonflame an outlet. (She then of course followed Stella down a rabbit hole of an adventure and got a place in Alfea due to her new friend’s quick thinking and forgery)

Stella:

With two proficient magic users as parents Stella was practically hounded over as adults in her life anxiously waited for her to show signs of magic. She went through magic prep courses trying her hardest to please everyone who was so important to her. She wanted to be magic so bad, always afraid of that infinitesimal chance that she didn’t get all the right genes from her parents. At age seven she was kind of a late bloomer for fully magic children to yet show any sign of magic sensitivity, and she spent another short holiday with her mother’s family up north. it was Stella’s favourite pastime to wander as close to the edge of the estate as she dared to alone in the constant twilight of the Solarian pole. Her favourite spot was a little cropping of shrubs populated by lighting bugs that always flocked to her when she came by. The loved collecting the shiny rocks as well that lit up at her touch and create her own little sun filled garden in the back where no one would bother her for hours. In retrospect Stella can tell exactly why she hasn’t come forward with all of these light related oddities, wanting to keep her island of peace to herself, but back then baby Stella really just didn’t clock that this could be related to her magic aspect. Her grandma eventually noticed and eased her into the thought that yes, she was definitely magic. After that the expectations were laid on even thicker instead of getting easier to bear as Stella got instructions at school and from both of her parents after school. Luna was very helpful with first developing Stella’s magic, so Stella actually started off with a stronger focus on her moon based powers. Radius with his control over bright skies was not very useful and Stella soon started feeling guilty over that and took up sun focused spells and fey magic explicitly to please her father. Radius would have loved her no matter what, but Stella’s insecurities were early risers and she felt the need to please others, so she was more than happy to follow his footsteps and enrol off planet in Alfea, his alma mater.

Musa:

She was equally under observation, only because she is mixed (human-elven) and it was unclear which type her magic would manifest as. Maylin herself a magic using elf would have loved to teach her daughter all she knew, but there was of course always room for her to chose a human stream, should she take after her human father more. That Musa was magic sensitive was a well known fact ever since she was a baby and was able to produce... quite a cry. Maylin was lovingly warned that her daughter was likely to be a musical type along with a gift of full sound-blocking earbuds. At age six Musa could remember the melodies of over 300 pieces of music of ranging complexity, regularly got birds to sing for her and had impeccable hearing - all in all she showed signs of having a promising future as a magic user. For her to be gifted with skills in music that brought Maylin and HaoBai together was a blessing from the Heavens. Then Maylin died and Musa and her father’s world shattered with her. Grief can have complicated effects on one’s magic, and Musa age 9, appeared with dried up magic meridians like she was a l 90 year old. It took a lot of family counselling and well timed teenage rebellion for her to pick up music and with that magic again. And it was hard work, let her tell you that. Both letting magic inot her and developing a feeling for it and doing it all while hiding from her father, afraid he’d want to ban her music and snap instruments again (it happened once, and HaoBai isn’t proud of how much the pain of loss had consimed him at that moment). At fifteen she finally had enough and decided to go head first for it, insisting her half-orphan “recompensation fund” to be used as tuition at Alfea College for fairies, despite never having received any magic prep education. Through brute force, luck and insane talent Musa aced all entrance examinations and made it despite it all.

Techna:

As childbirth on Zenith is, it was completely up in the air whether Techna would be magic or not.  All the early childhood signs Techna showed for their aspect were at first more or less mis-categorised as autism (which they absolutely have, but them going through technical books detailing the technological systems of ancient civilisations daily wasn’t just that). The first one suspecting they have magic was actually Techna’s elder sister, Electra. Electra five years older than Techna was very into the idea of a baby sister and loved smushing and cuddling Techna, which Techan absolutely hated and kept giving Electra static shocks out of nowhere. Once Electra understood where static came from and identified that there was absolutely nothing charged around Techna when they did that, she became suspicions. The whole family found out when during dinner, Techna announced in the calmest voice possible that they have heard the car talk and it told Techna exactly what was wrong with it setting an end to their parents tense discussion about the car having issues. The car was sent for repairs, confirming what Techna had  said and Techna was taken for a magic sensitivity test having that confirmed. (Baby Techna like: oh yeah I could always hear machines they just usually don’t have anything worthwhile to say). She wasn’t quite five at this point. Magic isn’t as widely practiced on Zenith and it took Techna’s ranerts a while to find a magic prep school for them to attend after school, which ended up being outside the borders of Transjordan actually. The daily drive was very long and exhausting both for teen Techna and the parent of the day who had to drive them, so they started talking about sending Techna to a boarding school once they were old enough. Techha was left to do their own research and they realised they had quite many options, even with just narrowing it down to fey magic that were closer to home than Magics, but they all advertised themselves as “girls’ colleges” and even pre-gender realisation that just irked Techan for an inexplicable reason. They much preferred going to a coed school, so Alfea ended up as their first choice on the application form.

Layla:

In Layla’s case, detecting her magic sensitivity was incredibly difficult, seeing as she grew up practically constantly submerged in water playing with her cousins by the shore. Androsi people naturally have a large lung capacity and are able to dive long. That Layla dried super fast afterwards and never got salt rashes was also brushed under the rug ascribed to good royal hygiene and skin care. When she started being schooled in the castle Layla was colossally bored. She received basic magic training just because, no one actually expected her to be magic since they believed she didn’t show any sensitivity for it, and kind of for shits and giggles Layla took it and ran with it. Layla discovered privately in tidal caves just what a mistake that was able to make the water be kind to her and mold and move just so she could always get out unharmed. She surprised everyone at age eleven when during a banquet the visiting princeling was annoying her just so much, she used her water magic to turn his strictly pomaded hair into a bird’s nest, overshooting and drenching the next three dignitaries around him as well. The party stopped. At first Layla though she was going to get into so much trouble, caught under the strict eyes of her father, but as it turns out, he was overjoyed. Layla was put on a fast track for learning magic and surprised people once again choosing fey magic and being able to transform at the tender age of 13. She was never sent to Alfea, but received the offer from Faragonda after the Darkar incident thinking Layla could easily make it to Enchantix (which she did, this girl is talented).

Flora:

Both of Flora’s parents are untrained magic users, so her being somewhat sensitive at least was also expected. Flora loved sitting to the side watching her father run the potion shop when she wasn’t chasing all her other parental figures and watching what they were doing with curious eyes. She loved it when her aunti Nimali gave her bumps and scrapes a little kiss so she started doing that to all sorts of things including her father’s ingredient plants. He was indulging her harmless kid fantasy, knowing full well that most of his magic plants responded to emotions like they had a soul and was more than surprised when he found these plants not only healed but sprouting wildly whenever Flora gave them a small “get well smooch”. The village talked it all over and Flora was given over to the local magic users to train with and shadow what they were doing. Her interest in potion making however prevailed and by the time she emerged from Nature’s Teaching Path having singlehandedly ran the little children’s colony it was very clear that Flora would need to receive proper training from a proper institution. She was just too good at magic for her family to fail her not being able to offer her more knowledge. Flora wanted magic with frankly for her startling greed and ambition, but she hated the idea of moving away. She could have just gone to Woodland College like most other magic users, but even there the entrance exam examiner was suggesting the school was too small for her. (And Flora kind of felt that - she overthought the whole exam because it was just so simple, she just had to touch the plant, and will the box to float. Her aspect of plant growth might not have given her complete control over the environment, but she was still a lot better than her peers.) The teacher spoke to the Council about the potential of sending Flora off planet and now that had her attention and full investment in doing everything the Council demanded to get her a visa to study in Magics.

Out of the six Layla and Techna were able to transform already before they came to Alfea, Flora and Stella had unstable first attempts (Stella during her own first year that is, not her re-run), while Bloom and Musa were the only ones who fully had to learn it from scratch during their first year.

Stella and Layla pay their tuition from royal funds, Flora is Lynphean Council sponsored and Bloom after the first year paid from Callisto’s royal fund (oops) is on a Magics scholarship for minority cultures as a surviving Dominian. Techna benefits from Transjordan’s education scheme which gives students a basic income, their parents supplement the small remainder, while Musa is 100% self sponsored from aforementioned widower’s trust fund they got after Maylin’s passing.

2019 Homecoming Wrap Up: Memorable Moments

Hey everyone! It’s Jaylen, RHBCUs student ambassador, repppin’ the Winston Salem State University Rams! The Fall of 2019 was definitely one for the books! I would probably say the fall is hands down my favorite semester and that’s simply because of what? You guessed it, HOMECOMING! Now granted, I’ve been attending homecoming since I could walk, but this year, my Senior year, was truly the best homecoming season I’ve experienced thus far. But we already know there truly is no homecoming like the experience one would get from a HBCU.

Though homecoming season 2019 has ended, we couldn’t officially wrap up the fall semester without sharing some of our HBCU friends most memorable moments. So let’s just hop right into it!

North Carolina Central University

Chances are if you attended North Carolina Central University’s Homecoming Saturday night, then like me, you experienced locker room championship vibes. It was definitely one for the books. Johnny Jones continued the annual Champagne Wars celebration. The Champagne Wars is exactly as it sounds. In honor of 109 years since the institution’s existence, bottles of champagne were popped throughout the night. It truly is North Carolina Central’s alumnus exclusive way of celebrating the university’s existence. Shoutout to Johnny Jones and the Mighty TΨ bruhz its always a good time when I’m at NCCU!

Morgan State University

“The weather was perfect. Partly cloudy. Low chance of rain. Mid 70s. Morgan State University’s (MSU) homecoming was positioned to be an epic experience. In terms of style choices, Alumni & current students had the option of whether to go full on “hot girl summer” and not freeze to death, OR break out newly purchased Fall gear without sweating profusely. I opted for a little bit of both.

Fashion is a huge part of the HBCU experience, ESPECIALLY on homecoming day. Every year, I pick a theme for my look, because I’m extra and love to show out. My looks tend to push the envelope and tether on being fashion forward and/or reminiscent of a Halloween costume. This year, I channeled my girl, Gabrielle Union’s character from the cheerleading movie, “Bring It On!” Though I’ve always been rhythmically and flexibly challenged during , my days at Morgan, I always wanted to be a cheerleader..

Admittedly, it took me a while to figure out what I was going to wear this year. In addition, I was sewing my outfit until it was time for me to drive 2 hours to homecoming, from Philly to Baltimore. However, I was proud with the colorful, bright and eye-catching outcome. When I got on campus, friends and strangers alike loved my outfit! AND GUESS WHAT? They totally got the theme! It was a hit! Strangers asked if was I a cheerleader alum. Friends that knew I wasn’t said things like “Oh, so you think you’re a cheerleader now?” I didn’t let their hate stop my shine! LOL. Either way, MISSION ACCOMPLISHED. MSU 2K19 was a day to remember, and I cant wait to go back next year! I have a whole year to figure out what I’ll design next…at the last minute of course! HA!”

“My most memorable moment from this past years Homecoming was my Line celebrating our 15yr Deltaversary. Fastidious 48 crossed those burning sands into Alpha Chapter 15yrs ago on Howard University’s campus. We are the definition of black girl magic!”

“I had the pleasure of designing our jackets this year! Unfortunately we lost our #43 a couple of years back, we honored her memory by placing her Jazzy J pen on our chest. We are dynamic women and I’m proud to be a member of this line, chapter and illustrious organization.”

Can we cue “The O’Jays - Family Reunion” (lol) because that’s what HBCU homecomings feel like, coming back together with friends that feel like family, reminiscing about the good ol’ days, like freshman year.

One thing that is for certain, everyone can pretty much remember their freshman roommate, whether pleasant or not so pleasant memories. If you initially got off on the right foot, your roommate was the first friend you made on campus. I specifically remember my roommate. We turned out having the same name and later on became line brothers!

Albany State University

Well my own homecoming was definitely a success! I had the chance to do a mini homecoming tour this year before, during, and after homecoming season but of course for me there were none that matched the energy of my own. Winston-Salem State University presented me with the opportunity to go out with a bang my senior year and that’s exactly what I did! It was also my first homecoming since I crossed over into Omega Psi Phi Fraternity incorporated. I must say growing up watching my family fellowship during homecoming as the bruhz and being able to actually fellowship as the bruhz was one of those moments I imagined as a child. My most memorable moment from homecoming though was being able to participate in my first step show. I had participated in a yard show before, even traveled to other colleges and universities to participate on their campus BUT it was nothing like performing at my very first stepshow on Winston-Salem State University’s campus. That can be for several reasons. The main reason being that it was my first stepshow since recovering from the head-on car collision I survived back in December 2018. Please be on the lookout for my future stepshow performances cause I’m coming for trophies. Shoutout to Godfrey Thomas for the dope pictures!

Savannah State University

Alexis Darnell, a 2004 graduate celebrated 140 years since Salisbury, North Carolina’s own, Livingstone College had become what it is now. Livingstone is definitely a HBCU that I am very familiar with not only because I was born and raised in Salisbury but due to my mother and father both attending and meeting at the college during the later 1990s. Here’s what Mrs. Darnell shared with us.

“Fun fact: I love my alma mater so much that I’ve never missed a homecoming.

My most memorable moments of this year’s homecoming were giving away two scholarships. The scholarships were awarded to well deserving students during the homecoming fashion.” The scholarships were both awarded in the amounts of $500.

LC may be small compared to many HBCUs, but that doesn’t matter because the amount of love and school pride we have can move mountains!”

Another memorable moment during Livingstone’s 2019 homecoming comes from a group of four young alumni. These individuals hosted their 3rd annual Yard-B-Que to serve as a force of giving back. The inaugural Yard-B-Que, back in 2016, started off as an impromptu event that brought out about 150 students. This is a fairly decent number considering Livingstone being a smaller institution. During the 2nd year the group had the privilege to make the event officially apart of homecoming increasing the attendance to 350+. With the help of their fellow alum, these four young graduates were able to provide free food, live music, and host giveaways during this year’s event. The group also was able to bless two students with donations allowing them to purchase groceries!

It had been days, days of your relentless teasing. Ariki was the embodiment of patience, such a virtue is not common nowadays in anyone,  but Ariki…well he had enough for himself and possibly all of Saiph. He had been working on keeping his composure, a low profile around you cause if you knew you were having any sort of effect on him it would be over, for him and for you. You, however, knew better. Since the moment you met Ariki it was immediate sparks. From the moment you, literally, fell in his arms you knew that he would be the one your soul would love and best of all the feeling was mutual. However, in this moment his fight or flight reflexes were failing him and he was at your mercy and you were well aware of it.

It was the end of the week and some of the summit members had been drafted for that week to hold a series of meetings outside of the Inner Sanctum, you and Ariki were part of the lucky few that were chosen. You were sent into a more urban area, along with the other members, that was heavily guarded for this event and each summit member was to be in their own room with a guard posted on their door with no visitors allowed…at all. With theses conditions in place you decided to have a field day with your lover. Thank goodness it was the end of that dreadful week and the summit was going to reconvene in the Inner Sanctum, and he was going to have you all alone in his own room.

His ears perked up as he moved his head your direction, giving you a warm smile that hid all of his true intentions.

You both boarded the same carriage that took you to the Inner Sanctum, as the carriage when on its way you decided to tease him again, the difference is that you didn’t know that this would be your last time teasing him. You started by putting your hand on his knee and slowly it started creeping up to his thigh, once you had reached his inner thigh his hand reaches down and griped your wrist. He was looking out the carriage window as you tried to release yourself from his grasp to no avail.

You hear small chuckle come from him as he turns from his former position with a smile on his face directed at you.

And that made you relax as you moved your face towards him to give him a kiss behind his ear. He moved before you could make it as he also released your hand from his hold; your lover was finally learning how to tease you back…and you were so proud.

As the carriage pulled up into the entrance of the Inner Sanctum, two guards were at the ready to open the door and when they did Ariki jumped out first followed by you. As you were both starting to walk in to the Sanctum one of the guards stop you both.

“Excuse our intrusion Mr. Tawera but we have a message from the Crown Prince who desires to meet with you over some agreements between the elves and the Marakihau.”

“Thank you kindly for this information, however I have other pressing business to attend to…” He turns to offer you his hand. “My sister will take this mater and meet with him if its of such urgency.” You turn towards Wauuru who makes you jump since you did not expect her to be so close to you. When did she even get there? Wauuru is looking at you with a smirk and all too knowing eyes.

“Go on then, I got this.” she says as gratitude flows from your mouth and Ariki pulls you away. As he basically power walks you through the palace you both finally reach his bedroom door. He opens it, leads you inside, and then immediately slams you against the closed door kissing you fiercely. You cup his dace with your hands as he takes your hands and pins them on top of you. He breaks from the kiss leaving you slightly breathless. He gets close to your ear again.

“Everything you did. You. Will. Pay” As he captures your neck in a myriad of kisses emanating a small excited laugh out of you that gets cut short by a moan that escapes your lips. Your back starts to arch as Ariki put all of his wait on you literally pinning you to the door.

The Home Stretch: Where We Stand in College Football With Three Weeks Left

Crunch time for college football with two weeks and the championship weekend left.  Teams are still in the thick of the College Football Playoff race.  I’m going to go over some things to look at during this stretch run.  To start off, here’s the playoff odds from ESPN’s FiveThirtyEight (great site for stat nerds like yours truly).

This site is fun because you can actually play with different scenarios like if a certain teams wins their next game or wins out the rest of their schedule and how things will look after that.  While that’s all fun and good, I have some opinions of my own that I would like to share before the CFP rankings come out tomorrow.

The Conference Championship Weekend Will Act As a de Facto Quarterfinal

If everything holds serve, we should have the ACC Championship (Clemson vs Miami) and SEC Championship (Georgia vs the winner of the Iron Bowl between Alabama and Auburn) determine two playoff positions.  Clemson seems especially vulnerable right now and Miami is looking as good as any team heading into the final weeks, fresh of totally demolishing Notre Dame.  Georgia won’t fall that far losing to Auburn and Auburn put itself in a great position after the Georgia win, trying to become the first two-loss team to make the playoff in the playoff era.  As shaky as Alabama looked against Mississippi State with all those linebackers out, can’t count them out yet especially since they are still undefeated and they are still Bama.  Contrary to popular ESPN talking-head belief, we won’t have two teams from the same conference get in (at least not this season).

To a lesser extent, the Big 12 Championship will act that way as well, at least for Oklahoma.  For the Sooners, if they take care of the last two regular season games, it’s a “win and you’re in” scenario (Oklahoma can clinch a Big 12 title berth with a win at Kansas this weekend).  It gets a bit more complicated for whoever becomes Oklahoma’s opponent.  Right now there is a three-way tie for second in the conference at 5-2 with West Virginia, Oklahoma State, and TCU (who holds the tie-breaker having beaten both the previous teams).  If Oklahoma State or TCU ends up in the title game and beats Oklahoma, they’ll need some help to hop into that final four.

The Big Ten is a little messier (and not Mark...haha a little NY Rangers humor there).  Wisconsin remains the only conference undefeated and probably in the best position to make a run to the playoff, but their schedule is something to be desired.  It will improve with a game at home with Michigan and the Big Ten Championship coming up.  But on the other side of the conference is Ohio State leading that division and then three 5-2 guys in Michigan State, Penn State, and Michigan.  I’m not sure what the tie-breakers are in the Big Ten but Michigan has a chance to win out and make the Big Ten Championship and throwing a wrench in anyone’s playoff hopes.

One thing is for sure though, the Pac-12 was eliminated when Washington became a two-loss team, falling to Stanford on Friday night.  USC now is that conference’s best chance at a playoff berth, but a lot of chaos above them would have to happen and there isn’t a lot of chances left for that to happen.

A Two-Loss Team Has the Best Chance of Making the Playoff This Season

There’s been a lot of talk about the possibility of a two-loss team making the playoff.  There are several teams that might be in a good position to do so, but here’s what has to happen...

-That two-loss team has to be a conference champion, otherwise there is no way the playoff committee looks at them as a possible playoff team.  

-The two-loss team has to be ranked in the top 10 in this upcoming playoff rankings.  Anything lower than that and there would be too much to overcome.

-That two-loss team would have to have a marquee win in the last three weeks of the season.  Otherwise it won’t catch the eye of the committee.

There are two teams that fit that sort of mold: Auburn and Ohio State.  Presumably, both teams would actually be within the top eight of the playoff rankings especially after this weekend.  

Auburn would have the best chance, already knocking off Georgia who was No. 1 at the time and would have the opportunity to beat currently undefeated Alabama and then a rematch against Georgia in the SEC Championship.  A run like that would be super-impressive, even for this SEC hater.  They certainly have the offense to challenge, run by QB Jarrett Stidham (formally of Baylor, yeah...that’s a Big 12 QB folks) with a ton of weapons around him.

Ohio State, even after that devastating blowout loss to Iowa, is in great position.  The Buckeyes demolished Michigan State this past weekend, a ranked team like themselves.  They’ve got Michigan on the road in the season finale.  Take care of them and they’ll face currently undefeated Wisconsin.  They will want Wisconsin to remain undefeated until they face them, but outside of that they’re in a good spot right now.

There are other two-loss teams in the field like USC, OSU, TCU, Washington, Washington State, Notre Dame, Michigan, and Penn State, but I believe there is too much ground to cover for them to have a chance at a playoff spot.

Here Are the Best Remaining Games of the Season

There are some weaker matchups this week, but some gems coming.  Here are the most pivotal ones that may impact the playoff race:

Michigan at Wisconsin (11/18) Georgia at Georgia Tech (11/25) Alabama at Auburn (11/25) Clemson at South Carolina (11/25) West Virginia at Oklahoma (11/25) Ohio State at Michigan (11/25) ACC Championship Game (12/2) - Clemson vs Miami Big Ten Championship Game (12/2) - Wisconsin vs Winner of East Division (likely Ohio State) Big 12 Championship Game (12/2) - Top Two Teams in Conference TBD (likely Oklahoma and TCU) SEC Championship Game (12/2) - Georgia vs Winner of West Division (likely Alabama)

Out of those games, I think the most pivotal could end up being the Iron Bowl.  The winner of Alabama and Auburn would be in control of their own destiny in the playoff race.  Could Auburn have another “Kick-Six” type moment?

The Heisman Race Is Over

The lead in the Heisman race is wide.  One player has emerged from the crowd the last few weeks.  Gus Johnson calls him “The Magic Man,” fitting because he plays for the Sooners.  That’s right.  Barring any sort of breakdown from Oklahoma in the last three weeks, this is Baker Mayfield’s Heisman Trophy.  Here are some critical moments that help build his case this season:

In week 2, on the road at No. 2 Ohio State, after a first half when Oklahoma couldn’t get in the end zone, Mayfield leads his young offense to a 31-16 victory throwing for 386 yards and 3 TDs.  Oklahoma got it going and outscored Ohio State 28-13 in the second half.  Afterwards, emotional Mayfield runs an OU flag around the stadium and plants it at midfield (in reaction to Ohio State celebrating and singing their alma mater at midfield in Norman the season before).

Fast-forward to week 10 in the shootout in Stillwater.  On the road again, this time at No. 11 Oklahoma State.  Mayfield lit up the skies with 598 yards passing (!!!) and SIX total TDs (5 passing, 1 rushing) on the way to a while 62-52 victory.  During that rushing TD, Mayfield unknowingly does a reverse-Heisman pose while stiff-arming a Cowboys defender.

This past weekend, Oklahoma hosted the No. 6 ranked TCU Horned Frogs, who were also the No. 6 rated total defense in the country.  Critics of the Oklahoma offense and Mayfield were quick to say that the Sooners had not played against a “real” defense yet.  Well, real met real as Baker threw for 333 yards and 3 TDs, 299 of that was in the first half.  Oh, and he had 50 yards rushing.  The Sooners cruised to a 38-20 win, all 38 points scored in the first half as HC Lincoln Riley basically shut down the offense in the second half in case of a possible rematch in three weeks.

But it isn’t just the gaudy stats for Baker.  His leadership is immeasurable.  His teammates feed off of his attitude and swagger (and are even campaigning for their QB to win the Heisman on Twitter).  Want to know his impact?  The Monday press conference last week leading up to the TCU game, he called on the fans to be loud and help his team, particularly the much-maligned defense.  The response?  My friends tell me the crowd was louder than it had been in several years, giving the defense some life.

The campaign is in full swing, but this race is basically over.  Give him the damn trophy.
