Untitled x-over drabble
Idk how this got into my head and got out in about two hours or so as a somewhat proper story (actually I was translating my Ice Skating story - even almost half-way through already). I'm still a bit shocked how fast this was born (considering the fact that I skipped "translating" part of writing and went straight for writing in English), but I honestly like it. Anyways...
This is a short story (prequel type, I guess, as I'm definitely planning on writing more in this setting in the future) on that wild crossover of Original RE4, Remake and a tint of Dino Crisis (no dinos here yet, though).
It's 693 words, and it starts in my old AU of RE4 OG, about six years after Luis survived his first encounter with Saddler in Leon's presence (well, almost: Leon was a bit late to the party, so Jess had to start saving Luis on her own), got out of the Island in one piece, got a girlfriend. Her name's Jessy Jones btw (I told you, I'm absolutely unoriginal with names) and at the moment of this story she and Luis are already married.
Warnings? Idk, mentions of death? Oh, and it's canon x OC type of story.
And - no worries, Luis will survive by any means necessary.
@fanficanatic-tw, I remember, you asked to be tagged if I get anything new))
Luis was mentally preparing to die. This time it was inevitable, unfortunately. All the odds were not in his favor – and even if he somehow could break free, his injured leg has made escape next to impossible. The cold from the floor and the pillar he was tied to was slowly creeping into his body, making him shiver. Luis closed his eyes, silently sending his last farewells to friends and family, but was abruptly brought back to reality by a sharp tug on the ropes that were holding him in place and an all too familiar voice of his wife, thickly laced with horror and despair, calling his name. - Jessy, - he gasped, realizing that she was really kneeling next to him and trying to set him free. - Por favor, no... Go, leave me. - I'm not going anywhere without you, - she retorted angrily, biting her lips to blood and frantically trying to untie her husband from the center column of this room, filled with equipment of unclear purpose. Luis desperately longed to know how could she possibly find him here, why she was here alone... But time was of an essence and the last thing he wanted was for his beloved to perish with him. He couldn't even tell her who was behind this as all he had was suspicions and a record with distorted voice, that had enlightened him on his fate in a mocking tone when he came to, already tied up. - This place is rigged to explode, - the Spaniard whispered. - And there's not much time left. The brunette just growled under her breath and doubled her efforts, regretting that she didn't get a habit of carrying a knife with her. - Think of our daughter, - Serra once again tried to call to reason. - Mel's only five and she needs at least one of her parents by her side. - But... Luis... - Jessica stopped and looked at him with teary eyes, rising her hand to caress his cheek. - I can't leave you. - I know, - he smiled weakly, too aware of the clock ticking away precious moments. - It's about hard choices. But, please... His wife sobbed and leaned into one desperate kiss, realizing all too well that this was their last goodbye. She knew that he was right and their little Melinda needed at least her mom. - Te quiero, Luis, - young woman whispered, reluctantly pulling away and getting to her feet. - Te quiero, Jessy, - he smiled at her and watched as she turned around and ran out of the doorway, sobbing and never looking back. He only hoped and prayed that she would get out in time and safely find her way home to their little hazel-eyed treasure. Time slowed down again, the wait of death becoming almost painful, but then a distant “click”, that seemed too loud in the silence of the facility, set the things into motion. The floor underneath him started trembling, the following heatwave washed over Serra's body, his ears were stricken with a loud “boom” and he flinched, awaiting the blast getting to him and the following pain before imminent death... Yet nothing happened, and he was deafened by the sudden silence... Sensation of short flight came next, sending Luis into air. He didn't have enough time to muse on where did his ropes disappear as he was blinded by the bright flash of light. Shortly after his back collided with something hard, eliciting a quiet moan from his throat, as he fell to the unexpectedly soft ground merely managing to turn his head sideways for not breaking his nose in addition to all the injuries he had already sustained. - How am I still alive? - the Spaniard quietly muttered to himself, as soon as he blinked away the involuntary tears of pain and was able to take into his surroundings. - ¿Y dónde demonios estoy?* Luis found himself alone and hurt in the middle of an unfamiliar forest with no signs of human life nearby and he had absolutely no idea of what to do now.
*"And where the hell I am?"

Meeting only one person can change a lot. As she was once again going on the spanish vacation, Jessy did not even suspect that she would meet a random acquaintance from her past: an ex-cop from Madrid, who now pretends to be "just a good-for-nothing guy" and "quite the ladies' man". The very man who seven years ago saved if not her life, then at least her health, just by yanking her from under the wheels of some reckless driver. That time they didn't have a chance to get to know each other properly (to Jessy's sincere regret). And this time she did not expect that she would get into trouble with some weird local infection and walk the tightrope again, escaping death only by a miracle. Who said miracles don't have names? After all, her personal miracle has it, and that name is Luis Serra.
Some day I'll translate that story of mine 😅
The first completed story after about ten years of not writing at all. Oh, and I still need to write a short one about how Jess met Luis for the first time (I know the facts, but not the details yet).

This Jess' brother taught her how to shoot when she was 14 (they started with airsoft gun and slowly progressed to real shooting range; their mother never found out about that), so she knows about basic maintenance and safety ("no pointing at people for fun" was first and foremost); and that it's better to keep both eyes open while aiming; and that her arms should stay slightly bend at the elbows. She doesn't like using guns though.

Second X-Mas together
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
They had some karaoke fun, some fun involving a bunch of mistletoes hanging everywhere (courtesy of Luis, of course), cooked the grand meal together - and shared that meal with Leon and his new girlfriend. They've invited Ashley too, but she couldn't make it.
Luis got Jess that blue dress as a present (she normally prefers jeans/pants, but she loved that dress on first sight, but, being overly practical about her clothes, she reluctantly decided against buying it - Luis saw that and bought it for her). She got him a book (deluxe edition of LOTR, illustrated - or a gift set of Emilio Salgari books).
And yes, this Jess has scars on her chin (it's from their "french adventure" and first meeting with Luis, when he saved her), on her left upper arm and on her right knee. About the latter two I haven't decided yet if it's a reminder from Valdelobos (one of them - for sure will be) or from some unfortunate hiking experience.
She also has a gray strand in her hair from that day when she thought she had lost Luis to the stab wound (or its treatment) - and I haven't found a way to make visuals of that yet.

Now that was really strange... I was recalling earlier today how Luis was the one who brought me back to writing fanfiction in 2017: I saw what happened to Luis in OG and became quite resentful about that unfairness. All I could think of back then was: how to find the way to save him. And I've got that one idea that turned into one year of delightful process of creating a story of my own (it's not very good, but I still love it and re-read it from time to time).
And in this evening's Sims 4 play session I've got unexpected Sim-on-fire misfortune - Sim!Luis had that accident and... Well, Sim!Jess saved him.
That "sentiment gained" message ("Am I still... alive? Oh... I am!") - it played in Luis's voice in my head again. And all of this is just so in sync with what I had on my mind today.
He IS wonderful and deserves the best, after all.

I suddenly had a wish to share something about my first ever written (completed) fanfic for original RE4, from 2017. The big one, which only has a headline: "Screw the canon, Luis lives!"☺😇
It has a scene with Novistadores, similar to the one in the Castle (Chapter 4-1 of OG). Those "bugs" tried to abduct Ashley and my OC, but failed (author's whim, yeah). Though my OC almost fell off the bridge, Luis caught her at the last possible moment, but lost his balance too. He couldn't move or do anything without the risk of falling - and it was up to Leon to save both of his companions. My girl froze up and Luis had to carry her to safety when those flying menaces decided to take another try at completing their Master's command.
And here's that text fragment, translated:
After getting out of the open space (fortunately, it wasn't that far to run), their mini-squad stopped for a breather and to help Jessy, who had simingly spaced out after her failed flight to the Castle's inner yard below. Luis's playful question suddenly helped with the latter. As he mused aloud whether they could take fingerprints from the future bruises on his shoulders, the girl came to with a gasp. She loosened her grip and timidly asked to be put on the floor already as the Spaniard continued to hold the brunette in his arms. With barely noticeable regret, the man obeyed, but continued to slightly support Jessica — just in case.
- It just has to be two of my greatest fears combined... - she muttered awkwardly, automatically reaching out to adjust her backpack.
Upon not finding it in its rightful place, and remembering that the meds for containing Plaga were there, she almost rushed back right into the welcoming chitin claws of Novistadores. Luis prevented that, being glad that he did not have time (or intention?) to let go of this girl completely: catching a person in a panic is quite a dubious pleasure.
- Easy, I have your backpack, - Leon quickly reacted, handing the said object to the distressed girl. - Had to borrow it for a while.
Jessy looked embarrassed, but gratefully accepted her "pocket with the fifth dimension," as Kennedy jokingly called it the night before.
- And what are those fears? - Ashley piped in, her curiosity finally taking the best of her.
- Heights and insects, - the brunette shuddered at the mere memory of the horror she had just experienced, but still tried to smile at her savior. - I'm so sorry, Luis... Didn't mean to latch on you like that.
- It's fine, - the Spaniard casually waved off her apologies with a charming smile of his own, and added in a low voice. - I was rewarded with an opportunity to carry such a beautiful lady in my arms.

I was caught in the idea that the first “real adult (lips-on-lips) kiss” for my Jessy and Luis would be... botched, kinda.
They'd have some kisses, ofc. Like on a tip of the nose or on a cheek (and kissing hands too). But the first time they are to kiss properly, Leon would barge in on them. And he would be in need of some immediate help, so...
It also goes perfectly with my belief that under game's canonic circumstances, the reproductive instinct would be whining (plaintively, but almost soundlessly) somewhere in the distance [hmmm... well, okay, considering that Luis is there – much closer to background vocals). And the main role would still be given to the basic instinct, that is the one of survival.
And this reminded me of my first ever fanfic for Original RE4 game from 2017: that Jess and her Luis went through more than half of the story before they simply hugged each other because they wanted to do just that. Their first kiss happened even later))

Me: *asking both of my girls how did they meet their Luis for the first time*
Original Jessy (who is still too shy at times): There's not much to tell... I mean, yeah, I was walking in Madrid at night (not a smart decision, I know), almost got under the bike, and Luis saved me. That's basically how we've met.
Remake Jessy: (tells a whole story of a break up with her boyfriend that led to a dangerous situation, and an unexpected date night in Paris with a kind knight who got her out of that situation)

Now I have the outline and some visuals for OG Luis&Jessy's bedroom. And some clues for the location of their new home (they moved some time after little Mel was born). Maybe soon I'll "see" (or "be shown" - that would be closer to reality) the whole house.
And a new story about their "family time" is on the way too 🤭 General outlines are ready, the first draft is "in progress" - and I'm happy for this warm and quiet spring.
And I absolutely love how these two couples (OG and Remake) slowly entrust me with new bits and pieces (or even just hints) of their stories 🥹

Just a random thought: my R!Jess had troubles trying to fall asleep in silence since her parents split up (and she was 12). And it has gotten even worse after the events of Valdelobos as there came nightmares. Starting with the sacrificial ritual (the one she escaped in reality) being successful, ending with Luis's dead body on her hands as she failed at saving him (either from lack of skill or from her mind being overtaken by Plaga), with a bunch of stuff in between, like falling off the cart in the mines or hugged to death by Regenerador.
Luis's heartbeat would make a great lullaby for her.
Same statement goes for OG!Jess - I know how her nightmares were after her first "visit" to El Pueblo and how those escalated after the second "round" (and the second time she didn't even have her Luis at her side - thinking that he's gone forever).

- Mel, honey, - Jessy sat on the sofa and pulled her daughter into a sideways hug, smiling as the girl snuggled to her. - Tomorrow's Friday - and your birthday too, so maybe you'd like to skip the school? You know, make our weekend a bit longer? - No, mommy, - that little copy of Luis looked at her mother, and stated seriously. - I wanna be a scientist, just like daddy. And scientists never skip their classes!
Melinda is about to turn seven. She'll get the best birthday present she could ever imagine 🥹
Now I have three stories about her: how she was born, what happened when she was four and a half, and this - what happens when she's seven))
And now I just need to write it all down 😅

No one believed in them as a couple. She saw that. Luis saw that too. All those quiet wispers behind their backs on how: "It's all because they've had that shared adventure, and as soon as that experience wears off and they're met with daily routine, they're bound to break up". And all those attempts to pull them apart. To lie about things, like, "we've seen your girlfriend kissing another guy" or "we saw him going somewhere with a dazzling girl". And all those attempts to hit on Luis, taking his flirty manner as a "hint" or even "open invitation". And all those people who went for straightforward approach and told Jess in her face that she was "nothing special" and absolutely not worthy of "such a gorgeous and good-looking man". There were plenty of obstacles, yet Luis and Jessy still remained together. Their shared experience was not the main reason of them being together, as well as the fact that they saved each other's life on a few occasions. All of that was only an initial reason to look at each other closely and discover those many things that they've had in common or simply liked in each other.
"Nothing special" was a short story that I wrote this spring (after being told that someone like Luis won't ever be intersted in someone like me). It was set in OG-verse - though I didn't know it at first. And this piece came to me this Friday and I have the feeling that it will definitely be set somewhere in Remake-verse. Though the fact of shared experience being only a reason to look closer at each other is true for both OG and Remake.
And in addition to all that I've got a small head-canon about Leon for one future story of mine: he would be afraid that Luis and Jess will share Sherry's fate, being locked up and separated. As there's no one left to look for Luis, while Jess is considered missing somewhere in Spain and her relatives will be looking for her there (if they'd be bothered enough to do so at all). And Leon can't even let them go and pretend that this couple "was vaporized and blown into the sea" as Luis still needs some medical attention.

Another idea from my RE4/RE4R crossover AU (currently in development, somewhere in the background of my mind): Jessy took a few pictures of both of "her" Spaniards (and maybe even lured them into some old-fashioned photo booth - or just used a tripod to make group photos, though photo booth sounds like more fun), and printed those in two sets. She gifted one to the departuring Luis (they've found a reliable enough way for him to return home - or he was willing to take the risk to get back to his family, I don't know yet), even wrote a few kind words for her own counterpart from another dimension, and another set of photos was added to their family album, as a sweet reminder of the strangest week they've had since coming back from Spain))

At last!!!
Now I know, when and how Luis and my Jessy had their first intimate night together in Remake (and it happened after they safely got back from Valdelobos).
And I have only one very important question©: why did I get that knowledge while being at work?! 😅🙈

This one song translation... I know, I don't need much to get my thoughts drawn back to Luis... and my OCs. But the mood... It just feels so them.
Full lyrics translate (with YT video for the song), if anyone is interested:
And on to OC talks 😊
I guess, it's one more brick for the "Fortress of Remake" - as I'm currently in process of putting bits and pieces together for this new universe. I've already realized that R!Jessy Jonzz differs from OG!Jessy and now I try to determine those differences. Things that they definitely have in common are: name, age, height, eye color, hair color and love for hiking.
Oh, and if you remember "Luis' memo 5" from OG, his thoughts on the Plaga removal: "But perhaps death isn't so bad when you think about the alternative" - this belief they all share too.
And about the age - I still find it rather delightful, that Jess is almost one year older than Luis. So that fact stays 😊
The way Jessy meets Luis a few years prior to OG/Remake events is only a bit different. He saves her in both timelines though. In OG-based storyline it happened in Madrid, when Luis was a cop, and it was a hit-and-run accident. He pushed her out of harm's way, and helped to get to the hotel later. For that Luis has got into trouble with his superiors. He decided to quit the force and look for something closer to his science profile.
In Remake-based storyline it happened in France, while Luis was preparing to flee from the Umbrella (or even on the run already), and it was an assault. At first Luis thought it was some roleplaying, but then he saw something that felt really wrong and decided to intervene.

We were deeply shocked together tbh: my OC, OG Luis (as a proud father) and me as the author. I was shocked the most of us all, I guess 😅 I even didn't know what to write after that line - and turned my attention to other stories. Like, my OC was that kind of "I'm soooo not ready to be a parent" young woman. And then all of a sudden a doctor comes and says: "Congrats, mom-to-be, it's 15th week!"
My OC didn't know. Long story short: she was stressed out and thought that she had lost her Luis in the castle explosion, like, for good. She didn't even notice the obvious signs. And then they have this reunion at the hospital after three long months (Krauser and Wesker had their part in that too), and such news drop on them 😅
Only a month later I finally got the story of "how they did it". It's "Nothing special", not translated. Also not the kind of story I'm ready to share... But they had "oops, it broke" thingy. And they both made a choice not to take actions and deal with any consequences as those may come. My Jessy felt that, after half a year together, she wasn't against the idea of having kids with her Luis. Still a bit scared - yes, not wanting - no.
And the result - as of who was born or did they make it to that point in their lives at all... I've got a "picture" of it in my head only after six more months! And they have a little daughter now. As if my Jess really was carrying Luis's child in some parallel universe and I was granted a chance to peek at that life 🥹🤭
So, looks like my theory of multiple universes has got a confirmation of a kind 🥰
