forcibly declaring it done but I may return to it and mess around with it later once I have had time doing other things so I dont feel like I have trapped myself in a personal hell. <3

artfight 2023 - adventures in crechesitting
what a cute little gathering. surely nothing bad will happen to them ever! (set in 20 BBY)
attack on @aliveahahaduck!
IMAGE DESCRIPTION: A digital drawing of a group of people in a nice room, set in the Star Wars universe. The room is meant to be part of the Jedi temple on Coruscant. It has arched windows broken up by columns and flower boxes blooming with life. There is seating placed around the room and a circular design on the floor. The room is in neutral colors other than the flowers, which are bright pink and orange, the seating, which is a pink-toned maroon, and the floor design and wall accents, which are red, yellow, and blue. There is a mouse droid scooting around on the floor. There are six people in this room, all wearing the neutral brown clothing of the Jedi: three in the background, sitting and meditating or gazing out over the city, and three in the center, our main focus. In the background to the right, we have a human padawan learner unlocking a holocron. In the background center, we have an older twi'lek master with a cane surveying the city. To the left, we have Master Rhy Antari. In the main focus, we have Rhy's padawan, Kho Starru. Kho is around 12 years old, a mottled blue and purple nautolean with dark red eyes and a charm attached to one of her head tails in place of a padawan braid. She is squatting over Odala and Emera and watching them practice their force powers. Odala and Emera are both around 3 years old. Emera, to the left, is a young mirialian with light green-yellow skin and dark hair, sitting cross-legged. They are looking curiously at Odala, who is levitating a ball with force powers. Odala, to the right, is a young theelin with light pink skin, bright pink hair, small face spikes, and mottled spots along the sides of their face and neck. The whole room is shaded with warm yellow light as the sun sets outside. In the bottom left corner is a small, medium opacity box with a drawing of a bee inside and the year 2023 underneath. END ID.

Ooh 5, 10, 11 and 15 for the dnd OC ask meme!
Aww thanks for sending this back my way! I appreciate the blorbo solidarity. I'm gonna do these out of order to introduce my character properly since I haven't really talked about them on here before. As a note, we're technically playing pathfinder, which is relevant to my character's story.
10: Write up a short summary of your character. What makes them tick, their basic psychology. How do they appear from your perspective?
So my current character is an older dwarf barbarian named Kass't Ieornpann (pronounced cast iron pan; I nearly always start character development with a goof and then turn them into a real person). Kass't comes from a big family of dwarves who run a tavern called The Halcyon Hearth, and Kass't had been helping maintain the tavern as a devoted cook until a tragedy led them to head out into the world. Kass't's wife Odala was a Pathfinder, and part of a group that takes on particularly dangerous artifacts to contain and destroy them for everyone's safety. These two met when Odala's group was passing through and stopped at The Hearth, and she and Kass't hit it off quickly. One day, of course, Odala's dangerous work caught up to her, and she didn't return to The Hearth. Kass't was bogged down with grief and tried to use the comfort of the familiar tavern as a balm, but ultimately realized they couldn't stay and that Odala likely wouldn't want them to squander the rest of their own time either. They decided to process their grief and feel closer to their late wife by following in her footsteps a bit. They set out to see more of the world beyond The Hearth, out where Odala spent so much important time, cast iron pan in hand.
Everything outside of Kass't's familiar comforts has been a lot more difficult to handle than they realized, but they're doing their best to push through and learn more about the world through the eyes of an adventurer. They regularly assert themselves as everyone's caretaker given their old age, making sure everyone has had enough to eat, getting after the younger party members for their manners, and tend to talk their way into a lot of situations by way of offering a warm meal. Well. That and the stubborn will that comes from old age, that most people just give up against.
They're pretty sure a good meal helps solve most problems, and even regularly offer food to NPCs they meet. Your wife and daughter are missing? Let me cook something for you. You won't let me investigate your house? Sorry, I'm cranking my old person hospitality and lack of social awareness up to ten and you'll be uncomfortable enough to just let me do what I want. They're a little gruff, but very friendly after years of chatting it up with tavern patrons, and try to use that to make up for the fact that they have no idea what they're doing out here in the world.
11: Who or what was your inspiration when creating this character? How does it show? This can be visual, backstory, personality, anything.
My inspiration for Kass't came from an unfinished character idea I'd had previously, that I then warped a little when we switched to pathfinder and needed a tank. I really wanted to play an older character, and I was exploring reasons why someone of that age would just be starting out at level one. Why did they suddenly strike into the adventuring life? I eventually decided on a character who had always been the homebody, but their wife was the real adventurer. After their wife passed away, they wanted to honor her memory by getting out into the world she loved and seeing more of it from her perspective. My original version of this was going to be a differently aging couple (human/halfling or similar), but when we needed motivation to join the pathfinders and I'd already started tweaking my character ideas, I landed on Kass't's (mostly) finalized backstory.
Kass't based on most gruff but friendly, overbearing grandparent types. They'll tell you all about how different things were back in their day, but they're also fast to listen and try to help. They also have that friendly bartender energy that comes from working in a bustling tavern for years.
I was also inspired at the very beginning by characters like Tika Waylan from Dragonlance, who just sort of get thrust into someone else's problem and use what they've got on hand - often something like a frying pan. The ridiculous pun name really got it all started, but then I started chipping away at their actual character. I also wanted to lean into the family aspect of their tavern, since I decided to go with a Spirit Instinct barbarian -- when they rage, they draw upon the power of their ancestors. I've chosen to interpret this as Kass't connecting a little too intensely with their ancestors through trying to learn and perfect their old recipes over the years. When they rage, they're joined by a spirit of their Ancestor Cassandra (after whom they chose their name) who sometimes makes snide remarks about their cooking as the rage ends and she disappears.
5: What was the first time you really connected with your character, if ever? Why do you think this moment made the character special to you?
Oh man. The VERY first time was actually in our first ever session. I'd built up Kass't's backstory, and I was ready to really lean into it. Then our GM brought the party together by having us captured by a monster that fed on memories, and locked us up together. None of us remembered anything about how we got there, and our memories didn't return until we defeated that creature. It suddenly hit me how absolutely devastated Kass't would be, realizing that they'd just set out on their journey to honor Odala's memory and very nearly losing all of those memories before making it anywhere. It really helped me settle into the character right off the bat, and helped motivate so many future decisions.
I originally thought Kass't might be ready to sacrifice their life to protect the younger party members from suffering Odala's fate, but in that moment I realized they would do what they can to help the others, but ultimately they'll try to survive anything until they feel like they've honored Odala and made peace with themself and their regrets.
15: What aesthetic do you think your character would fit best? This can mean anything from decade of choice to clothing style to [insert word]-core.
I think Kass't's aesthetic is about 80% woodworking grandpa who's used to fixing things with his hands, and about 20% grandma who's going to make you way more food than you can physically eat. Would definitely pinch you on the leg if you talked in church, but will also laugh and drink with you by the fire. I'm not sure if there's a -core for that, but they're definitely very homey and sturdy.
OKAY so if you've actually taken the time to read all of that, bless your soul. Either way it was nice to ramble on for a bit about my blorbo for a while. Thanks again for asking!

"Shrii ka rai ka rai We're coming to take you away Shrii ka rai ka rai We're coming to take you away They'll do what they can and they'll do what they must but when they do find you all you'll be is dust." -The High Republic: Trail of Shadows 1
Rambling/Explanation under the cut <3
The Nameless's design/Inclusion: I wanted it to be exaggerated and not very clear or truthfully accurate since Odala's sources on what the creature would look like came from older initiates when they were still a youngling. The Nameless is there as a representation of Odala's ocd. They heard the lullaby as a youngling and their ocd ran with with, and the nameless became how Odala conceptualized their ocd. This huge dangerous creature constantly lurking trying to turn them to stone.
Odala's design: Their robes in this are primarily based off of the robes of their creche clan leader, Ihaz. Odala is colored poorly primarily because i wanted to be done but also because something something her clothes are less concretely imagined in her mind because she doesn't have a strong sense of what kind of Jedi robes she wants to have due to having so little experience getting to wear robes so its a shakey mishmash of robes of those who are important to her. You cant see it too well but there are bits of dust drifting off them (:
bonus! my mini sketch. I have a lot of silly sketches of the nameless from when I was plotting if anyone wants to see them but you get this one without asking

I continue to put off finishing my main ocs refs and instead have done a ref for Ihaz!
They are a creche worker, one of the main caretakers for the Lorikeet clan which happens to be the clan Emera, Myel and Odala are in before the purge.
