synopsis: Hermione Granger had been followed by nightmares and continuous images of a dark-cloaked figure, hints and flashes of the green moss. She kept seeing flashes of the same figure. Whether that was in her dreams or nightmares. Or, even, Hermione thought she had gone crazy and was seeing flashes of the cloaked figure of Death while shopping or even just walking down the street with her friends. Then, Hermione stumbled upon a Death Tarot card, which had the same dark cloaked figure printed across the small piece of card. She had definitely gone crazy, something was wrong in her head if she kept seeing the same cloaked figure in almost everything that she was doing. Death was approaching. He was reaching for Hermione Granger, pulling her down to Hell.

Learning Cards

Title: Learning Cards Length: 735 Words Ship: Widomauk Prompt: “Tarot” Notes: It’s my first time participating in Mollymauk Lives Fest, and my first time posting a fic in a long, long time. 

         “Not so rough on them… You’re trying to read them, not play poker,” Molly warned, reaching out and touching the wizard’s trembling hands. It always seemed as if his hands were trembling lately. But, whenever his own hands met Caleb’s they weren’t cold. In fact, Caleb’s hands were always warm to the touch. Molly had a theory that they were always warm because of the magic.

         Molly was the first to admit that he didn’t know much about magic. Not even the magic that he seemed to have picked up in his life. This was especially true about the deck of cards being roughly handled by Caleb across the table from him. In his past interactions with people who read tarot, Molly was always told that there was a certain energy that the cards gave off and that’s how the magic was revealed. Of course Molly thought that was bullshit. But it was bullshit that people would pay good money for, and Molly knew a good con-man when he saw one. And Caleb Widogast was an exceptionally good con-man.

         “I am sorry Mollymauk,” Caleb mumbled, his trembling hands pulling away from Molly’s and the cards. “I do not think that I can do it…” he said softly.

         “No one can actually predict the future with these cards,” Molly admitted, smiling brightly.

         Caleb looked at Molly incredulously, cocking an eyebrow slightly. Still, he reached out again, taking the cards and starting to shuffle them once more. His movements were slower this time, not bending the cards or trying to hurry through anything. After a minute he looked over at Molly. “How do I know when I have shuffled enough?” he asked.

         “You will know. I was taught to keep shuffling until it’s felt like the right time to stop,” Molly said, sitting back and watching Caleb. Caleb was making precise, perfectly timed movements, paying attention to making sure that everything was done right. Again, Molly reached out his hand and put it on Caleb’s. “You don’t have to do this perfect. Part of it is in messing up,” Molly grinned.

         “Ja. I know. I don’t want to mess up,” Caleb said quietly.

         Molly rolled his eyes slightly. Sure, he had just said that Caleb didn’t have to worry about messing up, but the wizard still believed that everything had to be perfect. Part of the reason he liked Caleb so much was that the man tried to make everything perfect. It made sense to Molly. A lot of the people that he knew in his life would have done a terrible thing and then just accept that there was nothing that could be done. However, Caleb, this broken and weird wizard found in a gutter, tried so hard to make things better. Even when things were going to shit, Caleb tried to make other people feel better as well. Molly could see that in the way that he interacted with Nott or even Beau. Caleb was the exact opposite of him in almost every way.

         Molly never apologized for the mistakes he made. He was one of those people that believed that mistakes were meant to be made, and that was that. He felt like after something happened there was no need to try and make amends; there was no changing the past and most of the time, people didn’t forgive you anyways.

         And with the obvious difference in their opinions on mistakes aside, there was still a large array of differences between the two. Molly was loud and in your face. Caleb was quiet and timid. Molly never shied away from telling people exactly how he felt. Caleb kept all his feelings locked up. Caleb seemed to know exactly what he wanted out of life. Molly barely knew what he was doing half the time. But, despite all these differences, Molly still felt a strange pull toward the wizard.

         His thoughts were interrupted by Caleb speaking up. “Okay… I think that this is good,” he said, putting the deck of tarot cards down on the table.

         “Okay. So, now, just pull the top card, and we’ll go from there,” Molly said, smiling.

         Caleb’s shaky hands reached out, pulling the top card off the table and carefully flipping it over. Molly could feel a smile cross his lips as he saw the card in question. There, laid out on the table between them was The Lovers.
