Welcome to Things About Cars In Posts!

This is a blog that posts factoids/opinions on cars or car-related concepts featured in posts or asked about via askbox or (preferably!) post submissions. It was inspired by @identifying-cars-in-posts, which I love (I would've made it myself years ago had I known anyone would care!) - I thought that to most people associating an unfamiliar car to an unfamiliar name must be far less interesting than learning something about it, even if that something is just my opinion on it. So here I am!

Telling that to me is like telling a wheelchair user you can just walk. Like, yeah, YOU can. Congrats.

Anyway, jokes aside.

Actually, you know what? That's not even that much of a joke.

My neurodivergence makes miscommunication my middle name, so I've experienced enough fuckups that few days go by without the sting of remembering one. So, to use a batch of understatements, I care about my words being misconstrued and dislike when that angers people; I don't consider myself beyond fault and often look back at how I expressed myself, especially when prompted in such a way.

But nah, I still stand behind my post.

Someone asked for my thoughts on a topic and I committed to giving them more thoughts on it than they could possibly have asked for. Sure, I can see how one could take my outraged war-declaring tone seriously and thus read the commitment as against them rather than for them... if they hadn't read the disclaimer I left specifically in case anyone did not wise up to that being ironic.

And I was turning that disclaimer into a little final paragraph about how I was not intending to put them on blast, and I couldn't stop them from disliking a car but could only go over my perspective yadda yadda then I read it and it SUCKED.

It lengthened the post, threw away a very strong segue, and... was condescending. Going over how much we disagree isn't condescending, because if you asked you don't know yet. What IS is going "Hey, see that there? That's an opinion! See, any assessment of a metric not objectively measurable, even when worded as factual, is actually just someone's opinion! So even though I wrote that something is cool to me, you can actually still think that it is not cool, and I cannot stop you from here inside the computer!". You're not five. You know all this. And even if you don't know that I'm not five so I know it too, I can show you with a two line note as I chose to do.

Walking on eggshells sucks not just for me to do but for others to read, and I hate when people do that specifically because I feel condescended to. I'm sorry my choice made you angry, but I stand by it.
