By Ken James: When real life becomes otherworldly. Photography is interesting in the sense that you're an artist that captures and documents the mind-blowing work of God, who obviously is an artist who loves to his work show off.

Any D2 headcanons you have and wanna share? ❤️
Hi! Thank you so much for the ask anon!
I would love to share some headcannons about D2 (although they are heavily influenced by my mutuals @julietasgf and @little-de-vil)
A few relating to geography/economy:
Those that live in the north of D2 are more likely to work in quarries/mines whereas ppl who live in the south are more likely to be bricklayers and stone cutters. This is because D2 is much more mountainous in the north (especially northwest).
I think a lot of the peacekeepers live on the Front Range (middle and eastern Colorado) because the weather is less extreme there, it is much flatter and easier to navigate. (This is assuming a lot of the peacekeepers, especially the officers, are coming from the Capitol and are more used to the semi-arid, dry, warm weather on the Front Range).
In the 65 years between the 10th Hunger Games and the 75th Hunger Games, the capitol cities of D2 changed. I think originally there was a northern and southern epicenter of D2, with the north being somewhere around Silverthorne, CO and the south being in Albuquerque, NM. But, once peacekeeping became a primary industry of D2, the capital city moved to where The Nut is (Colorado Springs, CO: there is actually an American military stronghold close to Colorado Springs, which people think Collins based The Nut off of.)
Now for culture:
I think that there is a very large Latino population in D2. While I don’t know if Spanish is still spoken in full, I think a lot of it survived and the food is heavily influenced by Mexican and New Mexican cuisine.
I think the mountains are worshipped to some extent, especially before the Dark Days. I know religion isn’t talked about too in THG universe much but I do think that it exists (especially because of Sejanus’s mother and her strongly held beliefs).
That’s all I can think of for now! Thank you for asking 💕

Notes attached to the articles read, "recent local events" "Won't take my calls- bought out" and "Never trust a lab coat!" end ID] Full transcripts are available under the read more.
We've made it to our first intermission! Special thanks to my dad, a former journalist, for writing the newspaper articles for me. I gave him a basic outline and he did incredible work.
[Article 1 Transcript: Portland radio jock to call Meteor Flats Home Radio personality will be taking your calls on local station KWTF-AM Cecily Palmer Meteor Flats Gazette (Jan. 6, 2019) Big-city radio jock Barney Hopkins will be bringing his unique brand of news, commentary, and community reporting to Meteor Flats with the premiere of his call-in show, Voices on the Air, on our local public radio station, KWTF-AM. “I want to bring my brand of storytelling to a whole new group of people,” Hopkins said. “Kicking around the Pacific Northwest for a few years I’ve seen a lot of stuff — and I mean a lot — and one thing I’ve learned is that every little town has a big story to tell. And it’s usually a pretty weird one.” Meteor Flats’ airwaves are about to get more than a little weirder, if you judge by Hopkins record in famously weird Portland, OR. While a student at Portland State University he reportedly devoted a week-long series on campus radio to investigating claims of a Sasquatch living in the nearby Forest Park. Sources say he was kicked off the student radio station after a late-night interview that he claimed was conducted with a “moth-man,” although no tapes of the alleged incident exist and students who supposedly heard it said it consisted only of Hopkins asking questions interspersed with a “freaky buzzing sound, man.” “You’d have to be blind to think we’re alone on this big, strange, spinning ball of mud,” Hopkins told this reporter. “I’ve been calculating the vectors and time-tables, and I’m telling you — Meteor Flats is special, and I’m here to give a voice to the side of this community that the suit-and-tie types don’t want you to hear from!” Sources at Meteor Falls Community College & Technical School say Hopkins has been in contact with “certain fringe individuals” in the departments of Conceptual Physics and Speculative Biology, but Dean Alister Frumke has refused to comment on any association with the controversial Hopkins. Voices on the Air premieres at 9:30 p.m. on January 12 on KWTF, 999.9 AM. End transcript.]
[Article 2 transcript: Government project expected to draw traffic to the area, but critics are concerned Hiram McDougal Meteor Flats Gazette (April. 12, 2016) A new government project 15 miles outside our neighboring community of Carrion, NM, promises to bring jobs and business to our quiet corner of the state, but some area residents are worried about the secretive facility. Details are scarce, but the facility will reportedly be known as the Carrion National Lab for Unquantizable Physics Research. Signs visible Tuesday at the construction site credited the Grimke- Yao-Kandinsky Foundation as the funding entity, but the signs had been replaced by Wednesday with generic signage proclaiming “Good Things Coming, Just You Wait!” with a mascot character of a happy dancing atom. Some residents have expressed concern that the exact nature of the research to be conducted ta the facility is unknown. The college was unable to shine any light on the subject. “We have no official connection to the project,” proclaimed Meteor Flats Community College Dean Alister Frumke, “and nothing more to add at this time.” However, sources on the faculty reported that several members of the Department of Conceptual Physics had recently been granted multi-year sabbaticals, and the college itself had apparently obtained additional funding from unknown sources. Local contractors have confirmed that they have been hired to build a new covered parking and faculty pool facility for the school administration. Nonetheless, local business leaders were optimistic about the impacts of the new project. “It’s about time we got our own Area 51,” said Madge Plover, owner of the All Right All Night Diner on the south edge of town. “Get some tourists in here looking for flying whatnots. And all those research guys — researchers — whatever, they’ve got to go some place for a good meal — Lord knows Carrion isn’t exactly burstin’ with five-star eateries.” “I reckon I’ll offer them up a dis- count,” she added. “Ten percent off to anyone in a lab coat!” Access to the site has been limited by a new fence installed sometime between midnight Thursday and dawn Friday of last week. End transcript.]
[Article 3 transcript: Carrion residents claim lights, missing animals linked meteor flats experts skeptical about claims of “mystery lights” Hiram McDougal Editor, Meteor Flats Gazette Scientific authorities at Meteor Flats Community College and the prestigious yet mysterious Carrion National Laboratories are skeptical about claims of “mystery lights” and other phenomena in the skies over the tiny neighboring community of Carrion, NM. “I think if anything was going on in our airspace, we would have noticed,” said Dr. Helena Von Weber, formerly of the Meteor Flats college and currently listed as “director of unspecified research” at Carrion National Labs. Carrion residents have pestered sheriff’s deputies with reports of clusters of lights “flying in formation” over the small desert town for the past several weeks. Adding to the confusion, local rancher Daphne Frick has blamed the loss of a prize mare on the unknown aerial lights. “There was a light out back, bright as day, then it just shut off, like a door slamming shut, and the next morning she was just gone,” Frick said. She described the light as “cold and white, like a magnesium flare, but also kind of warm and purple, you know?” Area veterinarian Dr. Dani Ortega said no “unknown aerial phenomena” are needed to explain the disappearance. “Coyotes are a lot more likely than UFOs,” she said. “Dang things are clever. Hungry too.” “It’s just coyotes,” she repeated, convincingly. — Nov. 17, 2022 Unverified photo of “lights” submitted by a Carrion resident. End transcript.]

Hey, Valentine System here. Us and our fiance @almasystem are two OSDD systems of multiply-disabled people living in the Pacific Northwest. We've been struggling to find work after we (Valentine System) moved here from the Midwest back in October.
@almasystem wants to go back to school to get their degree, but in order to do that, we need money. We know that it's hard out there for so many people, so we're not asking for much, just enough so that, when we move, we'll be able to put down a security deposit.
Please do not feel obligated to donate - we are currently housed and in a safe environment.
Please DM either of us for our P*yp*ls/C*sh*apps/V*nm*s.
Thank you so much in advance! Please signal boost this as far and wide as possible!

“We have found that no modern prescriptions heal the human heart so fully or so well as the prescription of the Ancient Ones. "To the hills," they would say. To which we would add, "To the trees, the valleys, and the streams, as well." For there is a power in nature that man has ignored. And the result has been heartache and pain.”

May be a bit odd, but since you like talking about TF2 and nature are there any headcanon-type things you have about the regions surrounding the different merc bases?
It's in the actual real-life Badlands of New Mexico. About 20 minutes west of Farmington (real), 10 minutes east of Shiprock (real), ~5 minutes east of Teufort (fictional). Once you reach Mann Canyon (fictional), continue down the road for a few minutes and there's a spot where the road forks. Take the right, it'll lead you to BLU. Take the left, it leads you to RED. Beyond BLU is another road that leads you out of the north end of the canyon and Mundy sometimes drives out of that and walks up the slope of the canyon to the top to stargaze, or he takes the Mann Scenic Drive to the top and parks to watch the stars. If he can't be found at RED, there's an >60% chance he's somewhere along the Mann Scenic Drive. Mann Canyon itself is ~15km/~10mi northwest of Waterflow, NM (real) off of Route 64 (real). Route 64 in this universe has an accompanying rail track alongside the road.
Once you reach Teufort, the layout is identical to the official Badlands map courtesy of Valve.
Tumblr media
The Coldfront base is somewhere a little north of Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado, right at the edge of the national park.
The Administrator is located in the White Sands Missile Range (this is canon and is the exact location Miss Pauling gave as to her whereabouts in the comics). No one wants to get sent to White Sands. Everyone's been there at least once during the orientation process, but being called there once you're hired means you're in deep shit and of the people that are requested to come to White Sands, no one's ever come back. It's generally agreed amongst the teams that travel to White Sands is a death sentence.
There's something in BLU's mines. No one knows what it is, but it's so important that when the Admin fired RED team, she kept BLU on the payroll to guard the mines.
Aside from NM and the team's bases, there's small "veins" and pools of Australium throughout the Australian continent. There's a general belief amongst the Aborigines that Australium is not just the lifeblood of the continent but the lifeblood of Ngalmudj herself, and as her children they're called to take responsibility of it. They kept it a secret from the colonists until 1890s. Most Australium deposits were taken by force, but anywhere from 1/6 to even a quarter of Australium deposits were purposefully destroyed by the Aborigines with the intent of preventing the colonists from acquiring it. It didn't render the land uninhabitable like they'd expected and there's evidence to suggest the continent is actually re-pooling its Australium reserves into a singular source again. This is most prevalent at Kakadu.

there are other abduction cases involving the mutilation of animals by beings that don’t look like the cat-eyed beings. In fact, what appear to be the Controllers of smaller entities are often tall humanoids, sometimes seen in long, white robes, even with hoods over their heads. Government documents have described smaller beings referred to as “extraterrestrial biological entities,” or EBEs, and another group called the “Talls.” Some people in the human abduction syndrome think the EBEs and the Talls are at war with each other — but not with bullets. The impression is that these E. T.s war through deceptive mind control and manipulation of time lines.
Perhaps deception and time warps are why there is so much confusion in the high strangeness of encounters with Other Intelligences, the variety of non-human physical appearances, and lack of consistent communication by the entities about who they are, where they are from, and why they are on planet Earth lifting people from cars and bedrooms, or animals from backyards and pastures in beams of light.
While Judy Doraty’s May 1973 encounter with her teenage daughter near a pasture outside Houston, Texas, involved the cat-eyed beings and mutilation of a calf on board the craft in front of Judy, there was another abduction experience seven years later in the first week of May 1980 near a Cimarron, New Mexico, pasture.Purple map pointer marks Cimarron, New Mexico, northwest of Taos. Santa Fe and Los Alamos are marked by larger red circles in lower left of map while all the other red circles mark places of multiple animal mutilations in the Jicarilla Apache Indian Reservation, Dulce, Chama, Espanola, Questa, Taos, Las Vegas and Raton, New Mexico. Across the northern border into Colorado, other red circles at multiple mutilation sites are in Pagosa Springs, Alamosa, Walsenburg and Trinidad. The first worldwide-reported mutilation case was a mare named Lady found in September 1967, near Alamosa, Colorado, dead and stripped of flesh from the chest up and all the chest organs surgically removed.Lady, a 3-year-old Appaloosa mare, owned by Nellie and Berle Lewis, who had a ranch in the San Luis Valley of southern Colorado near Alamosa. Lady was found September 8, 1967, dead and bloodlessly stripped of flesh from the neck up. All her chest organs had also been “surgically” removed, according to John Altshuler, M. D. who examined the mutilated horse. Lady’s hoof tracks stopped about 100 feet southeast of her body where it looked like she had jumped around in a circle as if trying to escape something. There were no tracks around Lady’s body, but 40 feet south of her was a broken bush. Around the bush was a 3-foot-diameter circle of 6 or 8 holes in the ground about 4 inches across and 3 to 4 inches deep. Photograph taken three weeks after Lady’s death by Don Anderson.

The following excerpts are from May 1980 hypnosis sessions with a young boy and his mother who saw humanoids mutilating a cow in a Cimarron pasture followed by an abduction of them both. The hypnosis sessions began on May 11, 1980, when Leo Sprinkle, Director of Counseling and Testing at the University of Wyoming, received a phone call from scientist Paul Bennewitz, who was investigating the mother and son abduction for the Aerial Phenomenon Research Organization (APRO).

Day 7 - July 5th
Tumblr media
Waking up before the sun.
We all woke up before the sun peeked over the mountains. The morning was chilly and still wet from the previous nights rain. We had left our food in a food storage box at the next campsite. Overnight a second gent had settled into that site which was already occupied by Brian (who was looking to escape people for a week) and his dog Ozzy. The second camper, to Brian’s chagrin, was a real talker.
Tumblr media
Not quite yet sunrise.
Across the road from camp.
Tumblr media
Chilly morning.
Dan, a rocket scientist with Blue Origin, stopped by our site to bend someone else’s ear. He was hiking the Pacific Northwest Trail and had started a couple days earlier in Glacier NP. He was up on a high ridge the evening before when the weather chased him down to our campground. Regardless, he was quite entertaining. He talked about rockets, Bezos, Elon Musk, nuclear fusion, hiking, biking, kids, and more. We did get a word in here and there.
Later, as we were taking down our tents, two guys from Chicago popped over the top of the 12 mile climb we had done the day before. They were pushing hard to reach Kalispell. Nonetheless, they had time to swap the usual info ( where’d you start, where are you finishing, where are you staying tonight, where are you from, etc.) and to let us know that they were being trailed by 3 friends. By the time we broke camp 45 minutes later we had not yet seen their friends.
We didn’t filter water before we broke camp with the expectation that the next campground had potable water. Since it was 6 fast downhill miles to the camp we learned quickly that we were wrong and that our navigation app was playing a cruel trick on us. We stopped at a campsite and a couple from Colorado offered us water and watermelon. Among other things, we learned that their daughter is a pro beach volleyball player who is trying to go to the Olympics.
Tumblr media
The nice folks from Colorado.
After visiting with those folks, we continued our bombing descent into Whitefish. Hungry for something other than Mountain House (freeze dried meals) we stopped at Piggyback BBQ just before rolling into downtown. Having their smoker near the street in-front of the restaurant was the best advertising they could do and their BBQ was exceptionally! While there, we met the Chicago boys’ three friends: John R, John , and Nick.
Tumblr media
Exceptional BBQ!
They were serious riders about our age who knew each other from Chicago but now lived in MI, MT, and NM. They were riding lighter than us, as were most of the riders that we saw. They also started in Banff but a day after us. One was riding a more gravel-ish bike while another was on a cross bike, and the third an old steel road bike with wide tires. They were headed to Kalispell for their Zero Day. We were staying in Whitefish.
After lunch we checked into the Best Western on the south side of town to take advantage of their free shuttle, free laundry, and other amenities. After showers and laundry we shuttled to town for pizza, beer, and our biggest treat, ice cream!
Tumblr media
Pizza at Blackstar Brewing.
Tumblr media
Huckleberry ice cream.
All in all, a pretty good day.
Cheers!
Ride stats:
Miles ridden: 29.2
Elevation gain: 675 ft
Max elevation: 5,637 ft
Total descent: 3,222 ft
Start time: 10:05am
Moving time: 2:25:32
Elapsed time: 3:18:38
Ave speed: 12 mph

Potential Tropical Cyclone 15 forms in the Caribbean near Belize, with the possibility of developing into Tropical Storm Nadine.
PTC Fifteen, previously designated as Invest 95L by the National Hurricane Center, is currently located near Belize and the Yucatán Peninsula of Mexico.
Climate and Average Weather Year Round in 38116 - Memphis TN:

The National Hurricane Center has classified a developing tropical disturbance in the northwestern Caribbean as Potential Tropical Cyclone 15.
Weather Forecast For 87120 Albuquerque NM:
https://www.behance.net/gallery/203013063/Weather-Forecast-For-87120-Albuquerque-NM
This designation enables the NHC and other authorities to issue tropical weather watches and warnings for systems that haven't yet reached tropical storm strength but are expected to do so within 36 hours, with potential impacts imminent.
Currently, the disturbance is experiencing final stages of development before making landfall in Central America on Saturday.
Potential Tropical Cyclone Fifteen, previously identified as Invest 95L by the National Hurricane Center, is located southeast of Belize and Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula. The system has peak winds of 30-35 mph and is tracking west-northwest.
In response to the threat, the government of Belize has issued a Tropical Storm Watch from Belize City northward to the Mexico border, while the government of Mexico has issued a Tropical Storm Watch from the Belize border northward to Tulum.
youtube
Forecast for Potential Tropical Cyclone 15: PTC 15 could still develop into Tropical Storm Nadine if it becomes an organized tropical system with wind speeds of at least 39 mph. However, regardless of its status, the storm is not expected to last long, as it is forecast to move inland over Central America on Saturday, bringing gusty winds and heavy rainfall.
"Residents in Belize and Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula should keep an eye on the development of this system," the NHC advised, adding that "locally heavy rainfall is expected across parts of Central America."
Rainfall totals could range from 5 to 8 inches, with locally higher amounts, particularly in Mexico.

The disturbance poses no threat to the U.S. FOX Weather Hurricane Specialist Bryan Norcross noted that unfavorable atmospheric conditions over Florida and the northern Gulf of Mexico should prevent any tropical systems from impacting the U.S. in the near future.

Petroglyph National Monument - Albuquerque, NM
Tumblr media
Perched on a hillside northwest of Albuquerque, Petroglyph National Monument was well worth the drive from our campground in Tijeras. There are three canyons in the monument and a visitor center. We visited Boca Negra Canyon and Piedras Marcadas Canyon. We had a great time checking out the petroglyphs and enjoying the beautiful spring day. Admission is free!!
