The Northern Railway has completed the most challenging rail project in the Himalayan region of North India, connecting Kashmir to the rest of the country via a rail link. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that the final track work on the rail link has been completed, calling it a “historic milestone.” In a post on X, the minister wrote, “Historic milestone: Final track work on…

Northern railway slashes ticket prices for Kashmir
SRINAGAR — In a major relief to train commuters, Northern Railways has reduced ticket fares to pre-COVID times in the Kashmir valley, officials said on Wednesday. A top railway official said that railways reinstated Second Class Ordinary Fares on passenger trains in Kashmir. “The fare charges have been dropped by nearly 40-50%, reverting to pre-COVID levels,” he said, adding that previously, the…

For my next electric locomotive build in Minecraft, here is the mighty Great Northern W-1. The chassis was used from CraftyFoxe's Union Pacific Coal Turbine build since No. 5018 was reused for the coal turbine of course (credit to CraftyFoxe BTW). As for building the rest of the locomotive, the only challenging part for me was to build the slanted streamlined noses on the two ends of the locomotive. But other than that, it was an easy build. Happy Thanksgiving!

This is a sketch of Emily before she was bought by Sir Topham Hatt.
Warning: Emily headcanon infodump below.
The GNR was a pretty strict railway, and a lot of the engines were mean – especially to Emily, as she was one of the oldest engines there. As a result, she was a punching bag for the younger, more obnoxious engines. It only got worse when they discovered she used to pull high-speed expresses.
Luckily, Emily was taken for an overhaul before things got too ugly, and was bought by Sir Topham Hatt after she was finished. I like to think her bossiness was just a behaviour she had picked up from the GNR, since they practically taught her to be like that as an ex-express engine.
The overhaul made Emily look young and feel young for a number of years before it started wearing off in the BWBA era. She was built on June 21th, 1889. Just six and a half years older than Edward. She's a bit self-conscious of her age, but eventually learned to accept it and is. happy

Forty Five/F-Unit Friday
A westbound New York, Susquehanna & Western Sea-Land double stack container train with third hand "Green Machines" arrive at Maybrook, NY off the ex Lehigh & Hudson River Railroad trackage, to do the daily "Maybrook Shuffle". This was the mid to late 80's draw for many of rail fans from across the east coast to make the pilgrimage to the ex Erie Southern Tier line for an action packed day of Conrail and NYS&W trains. "Heavy Harry looks like its about to go postal"
Tumblr media
So goes one of the comments under this cartoon by John Draper for the SAR 520 Restoration SteamRanger group.
Going postal would not be too out of character for Heavy Harry, he is very easily angered; '01 for her part looks incredibly outraged, like actually personally offended.
For her part, R761 just looks confused as hell.
As a Victorian gunzel I had a good laugh, just cause seeing my bitter boy in a cartoon, even in a sardonic one is always a hoot. I appreciate the backhanded acknowledgement of both Harry and the Rs being representative of our state's flagship locos alongside '01. It hits just right.
I gotta say, this is one of the strangest comments I have ever seen:

Except that the SAR 520 class has a very strong resemblance to the Pennsylvania Railroad T-1 Class, reflecting SAR Commissioner's William Webb's and CME Fred Hugh Harrison's penchant for American locomotive design and...

...and...

*blinks*
*Gets visions of a Dalby-esque scene of Heavy Harry derailing*

I've been wanting to do builds of articluated steam for a while, so here is the Nothern Pacific Z-5. In addition to introducing the 4-8-4 "Northern" type, the Northern Pacific also introduced the 2-8-8-4 type calling it the "Yellowstone" since the NP once ran near Yellowstone National Park. This was made following CraftyFoxe's Union Pacific Big Boy tutorial so credit to him.
