It took 41 days between the new law allowing Swedish police to set up visitation zones before the first one popped up.

In Hageby, a poor part of the town of Norrköping (which is described on Swedish wikipedia as one of the most "immigrant-dense" parts of the municipality), police may now stop and search any person or vehicle, regardless of circumstances. Frida Braf, the local police chief, told Swedish state broadcaster SVT that they will "consider several factors, e.g. police intelligence information, time of day, behaviour and whom the individual is associating with". My translation from here.

The visitation zone will be in place for 2 weeks, the maximum allowance in the new law.

I can't say I'm surprised. By the timing, the background, the history of the place.

This doesn't make Sweden into an authoritarian police state.

But like. When should I worry? How many bricks are in a wall?

Me, I'm lily white and as Swedish as a Maypole. I've never felt like a stranger here. But I've heard the stories my Kurdish and Bosnian friends can tell. I have family who work for the police. They seem okay. But how can I tell from up here on Mt. "Ethnically Swedish"?

Here's hoping I'm making a mountain of a molehill. Hoping the slope is actually quite dry, thank you. But we have issues with race in Sweden, and this isn't the first time I've felt like this.

And so, it was finally time to watch the movie I was part of creating in 2021. For 3 months we filmed and worked together, 80 people of us, to create this beautiful movie. I'm overwhelmed and impressed with what we accomplished and so thankful to be part of the project.

🍔 Updated review ━ 📍 Burgers & Bangers ★★★☆☆ • Burgers & Bangers in central Norrköping is a veteran in the city. They opened in 2015, and we actually reviewed them shortly afterwards. In the seven years since they’ve opened, they’ve moved into a larger restaurant, but the interiors were very much the same when we visited their larger location. Hiphop flowed from the speakers, and the inviting menu felt full of burger love. This time we ordered two hamburgers; a Mortel with double cheddar, white onions, dill pickles and a dijon mayo for 110 SEK (10.5 USD) plus a Kickflip with oak-wood smoked cheddar, bacon, white onions and a chipotle sauce for 120 SEK (11.5 USD). We also ordered some french fries for 40 SEK (4 USD). • Our hamburgers looked pretty strange, due to the heel being bigger than the crown. The bun was also extremely soft, and had only been toasted along the edges on the inside. The 150-gram beef patties had a classic feel with very loosely packed meat, but we would have preferred a deeper crust. Our Handplant burger had some great flavours though, spicy and salty thanks to the chipotle sauce and bacon. But the dill pickles in our Mortel tasted like crayfish, as they’d used the dill umbels instead of the seeds during the pickling process, giving the burger a slightly off-putting flavour. And the bottom cheese slice hadn’t melted either. Their french fries were dry and a bit bland, and not really worth the price. • We were actually a bit surprised and disappointed that Burgers & Bangers hadn’t seen much improvement since last time, especially seeing as they had loads of potential and room for improvement when they first opened.
