Wells Cathedral by Roy Llowarch Via Flickr: Wells Cathedral is an Anglican cathedral in Wells, Somerset, England, dedicated to St Andrew the Apostle and seat of the Bishop of Bath and Wells, whose cathedra it holds as mother church of the Diocese of Bath and Wells. Built in 1176–1450 to replace an earlier church on the site since 705, it is moderately sized for an English cathedral. Its broad west front and large central tower are dominant features. It has been called "unquestionably one of the most beautiful" and "most poetic" of English cathedrals

Day 27: Marie de France, poet and (maybe) abbess. Aside from her name and place of origin, her identity is unknown, though she was potentially a relative of King Henry II of England and/or an abbess. She adapted Breton narrative poems into French verse and translated Aesop’s Fables from Old English.

Scotland and England like to take digs at each other so often with shit like: 'Hey, remember when Edinburgh was part of Northumbria for 300 years?'
'Oh, sure. Remember how I saved your Princess Margaret from the Normans, and now she's a Saint? My saint. Not yours.'
'Oh, yes, her Englishness truly was divine. She's as Scottish as her kids Edward, Edmund, Ethelred, Edgar, and Edith. Such Scottish names - just like their dad Maol Chaluim would have wanted.'
'And remind me which one of those kids became a Queen of England and a better ruler than her dumbarse husband?'
'She married a Norman, of course he was a dumbarse. They're all fucking Norman - the Bruces and the Stewarts were Norman in case you forgot, and you caved in the second they came to settle in the lowlands.'
'Cause fighting them worked so well for you. Remember that time they killed everyone in your north?'
'Haha prick. Good times for you I'm sure.'
'Haha. It could have been better.'
Then they both kind of go man fuck the Normans and the conversation dies a quiet death.

“Haddon Hall is 900 years old, and it’s nestled in the landscape. You can almost hardly see Haddon. It’s burrowed into the tress and hugs the hill. It feels like a living organism. It feels like it’s got a sort of energy and beating heart.” - Lady Edward Manners. Haddon Hall in The World of Interiors, March 2025.

This is most certainly NOT how the Norman Invasion looked like!!! 😞
🤓👆
The Normans were actually mostly Viking descendants, with William himself being a descendant of one such Viking. The French had little to no involvement, and the Duchy of Normandy had been given to the Vikings decades prior.
This is for THOSE anti-frukers that use the arguement of "oh france conquered and raised england so they can't be shipped" like I'm pretty fucking sure Francypants is NOT William I??? The French never really got close to conquering England, despite what they might tell you — Remember, French people are not to be trusted — and, if anything, it was actually England that nearly conquered them!
Overall, I spend too much time researching English history (;´д`)
