Entry 1: Your preparedness prior to commencing your internship and how you assimilated into the organisation’s culture
Prior to starting my internships at North Melbourne Football Club (NMFC) and Disability Sport and Recreation (DSR), I felt very prepared to enter a professional sporting environment. This is largely due to utilising the Transition to Professional Practice unit in Year 3 and Academic and Professional Communications unit in Year 1. Both of these units combined allowed me to develop my communication and professional skills, which form a basis for transferable skills necessary to be successful in the workforce (Norman-Burgdolf & Vanderford, 2016). The Transition to Professional Practice unit also helped me to prepare for interviews and identify my strengths, improve my resume, and cover letter writing, which, according to Norman-Burgdolf & Vanderford (2016), are important aspects of career development and preparedness. Having done interviews at work, and the mock interviews in my degree, I was prepared for both interviews and the type of questions that would likely be asked. I practiced in front of a mirror to help support my confidence. I made sure to highlight the skills I have to offer, and also let them know who I was as a person. I used my experience of being in a professional work environment for the last 8 years and understanding of how to interact and present myself to prepare – I was appropriate clothing and groomed myself well.
To assimilate into the culture, I made sure to identify the key attributes in both internship listings that resonated with me the most. Culture is important in the workplace, as it creates and supports cohesion (Van Coller-Peter, 2015), so it was important to me to identify with these aspects. For DSR, my values and beliefs matched the organisation’s, which made it easy to assimilate in. Values and beliefs help form the basis of a strong workplace culture (Van Coller-Peter, 2015), and inclusivity is one of my core values.
The personal attributes highlighted for DSR were “curiosity and a desire to learn about DSR, adaptability and team player, creativity, attention to detail, time management skills and enthusiasm and passion for Media and Communication” (Acocks, 2023, p. 2). These are the attributes I pride myself on, so it felt very fitting to not only apply for this internship position, but also felt very natural to assimilate into their team as quickly as I did.

NMFC also required a strong sense of teamwork and desire to work in the sporting industry, and a passion for AFL and AFLW. As I volunteer at a local club, having some knowledge of structure and hierarchy helped me identify and work with the different groups of people at the beginning of my internship.

Text Appearing Before Image: bird in raised ornamentation,the sides of the neck of the vessel being decorated with shortraised loops, and the body covered with a conventionaldesign in low relief. In size the perfect pitcher must havestood at least 14 to 16 in. in height (see illustrations). The Norman potters were certainly very original in theirwork, and the fragments, which are pieced together as far aspossible, show much quaintness in design. I do not remembera vessel in any of the London or provincial museums at allsimilar. Many other fragments were found of early mediaevalpottery, including a darkgreen glazed head forming the mask lip of yet anotherpitcher. It is a curiously boldpiece of moulding and veryecclesiastical in character, forthe head is depicted wearinga tonsure (see illustration). We naturally wonder if theartist – potter modelled thesevessels to order, or if theywere the working of his ownfertile brain ; and also inwhat houses in this Norman town they were in use beforegetting so badly smashed.

The issuer of this token was Mayor of the City in 1644,the same year in which Toby Jordan (one of the messengerswho carried the answer of the citizens to King Charles Iin Tredworth Field, when he summoned the city tosurrender) was Sheriff. Milliners
A milliner is a hat maker. This was a very important trade in Victorian times. If you look at Victorian photographs you will find that you rarely see anyone outside without a hat.
In Victorian times ordinary working people got all their clothes locally (or made their own). The dressmakers listed here would have been kept busy.
