Earping For The Greater Good: #EarpYourCommunity
What do you get when you take a fandom known for its fervent desire to spread kindness and combine it with the opportunity to make a difference in the world?
The answer is #EarpYourCommunity, an initiative that encourages fans of Wynonna Earp to channel their passion and positivity into real-life change by coming together to organize what are known as “service meetups” in their area. Earper meetups themselves have been going on for quite some time now, spanning the globe and giving Wynonna fans of all demographics a chance to meet and bond with one another in a social setting. These “service meetups” add a new dynamic to this concept, presenting an opportunity for Earpers to go out into their own communities (hence #EarpYourCommunity!) and find something they can do together to give back. Whether it’s volunteering at an animal shelter, organizing a clean-up at a local park, or teaming up to spread awareness for a charity close to your heart, the possibilities are endless.
Here at Earp It Forward, we’re happy to share that since the initial launch of this project, several successful #EarpYourCommunity service meetups have already taken place across the USA! Read on to find out what these groups of Earpers did recently to make a difference in the world…
@chicagoearpers - Bernie’s Book Bank
Tumblr media
On Friday July 6th, the Chicago Earpers came together to help sort books for Bernie’s Book Bank, an organization that “sources, processes, and distributes 12 books per year to 300,000 at-risk children throughout Chicagoland”. These Earpers were all smiles as they spent their day sifting through piles of books, happy to lend their time to this wonderful organization. They even got a shoutout on the digital screen at Bernie’s Book Bank, which proudly listed “EARP Your Community” as one of the groups they were welcoming for the day!

@CarolinaEarpers - Second Harvest Food Bank
Tumblr media
The Carolina Earpers had their first #EarpYourCommunity meetup on Saturday, July 7th, when they volunteered at Second Harvest Food Bank! The organization, which proudly supplies food and grocery items to 700+ charitable agencies, welcomed this team of Earpers to their warehouse in Charlotte. They spent the afternoon organizing medicine donated to the food bank by its expiration date, sorting out close to 5 bins for over the course of a few hours! Following their volunteering at Second Harvest, the Carolina Earpers then paid a visit to a local brewery.

@SoCalEarpers - Green Ribbon Club
Tumblr media
On June 23rd, the SoCal Earpers headed to Burbank, California to volunteer at a fundraiser for the Green Ribbon Club during a taping of the Netflix show One Day at a Time. A non-profit organization based out of Southern California, the Green Ribbon Club aims to “engage in youth advocacy to destigmatize mental health and increase awareness of resources to ultimately aid in suicide prevention”. SoCal Earper Nikki Daurio serves as Chief Communications Officer for the organization, which also currently has chapters in Hawaii and Massachusetts. One Day at a Time star Isabella Gomez even showed her support for the Green Ribbon Club, holding up a t-shirt with their logo in a group picture at the fundraiser!

*If you happen to be in the Los Angeles area, Green Ribbon Club also has an upcoming silent auction event on August 26th in Anaheim, which Kat Barrell will be a guest speaker at! Tickets are $5 (or $7 at the door), and you can check out their website, greenribbonclub.org, for all the details.*
Some local Earper groups have also taken the #EarpYourCommunity spirit into the great outdoors, organizing service meetups focused on making our world a cleaner (and greener!) place.
@BayAreaEarpers - Ocean Beach Cleanup
Tumblr media
On August 4th, the Bay Area Earpers teamed up with Golden Gate National Parks for a beach cleanup. Wearing specially designed “Earp Your Community” shirts (courtesy of @BeyondClexa), they headed down to San Francisco and spent the day beautifying Ocean Beach, working to get rid of all kinds of trash and debris that had ended up on the shore. All ages took part in this effort - the youngest helper was just a little under 3 years old! It was a wonderful opportunity for local Earpers to connect with one another while doing something that gave back to the environment.

NYC Earpers - Astoria Park Cleanup
Tumblr media
The most recent of the #EarpYourCommunity events, a group of Earpers came together on Saturday, August 18th to clean up New York City’s Astoria Park, one of the largest open spaces in Queens. By spending their day pulling weeds and collecting trash, they helped restore the park and shoreline to its naturally beautiful state. In an exciting turn of events, the group even found an Earper who was out there volunteering on their own!

If you’re interested in taking part in a service meetup, why not see what local non-profit organizations and charities are out there for you to #EarpYourCommunity with?
Some of the specific causes Earpers around the globe have suggested getting involved with include a local women’s shelter (YWCA), animal shelter (Humane Society), orphanage (Mama’s Hope Haven of Norway), and LGBTQ+ organizations (Q Center, AZ Gay Rodeo Association, IGY). Musically inclined Earpers who live in the Georgia area can also check out some unique service opportunities through SERV and Dewitt Guitar Inc., and animal-loving Earpers in Texas can volunteer with the non-profits Panhandle Pups Unchained and Austin Wildlife Rescue. Opportunities abound all over the world, as these organizations and more are out there waiting for helpful hands and big hearts to aid their cause.
#EarpYourCommunity is a core component of Earp It Forward and a call to action to give back to our communities and neighborhoods through service events. #EarpYourCommunity activities come in all shapes and sizes and can be done by groups of Earpers or as an individual. It is about celebrating what Earpers may already be doing and helping people connect to take action and make a difference in the lives and well being of those around us. To learn more about #EarpYourCommunity, check out the "Are You Ready to Earp Your Community?" introduction document which outlines the project and provides support and resources for all your passion to help and give back. In the worldand what is not whether one outand as we later show in the entire galaxy overand I had a great weekend I saw that I cannot the county certifies me back home in Los Angeles on today’s show wonder woman so could be an parol metal gear solid gets a Kong size upgradeand we are not pronounced hostels hostile’s you can be hostile to someone but if you see a bunch of people who are scary they are hostile to the house tiles that something styles of the familyand things are ready for designer can’t coming out this weekand was amazing it was so crowded that it’s moving to Anaheim next year what’s up go next year was made thousand tanks will understand that he was McConnell video this morning I does every morning before I shut I like that athletic move is your new that that’s from that’s also the rest good writers in our Aussie ready to wrestle Josh Pasadena remotely had a nice weekend I’m assuming is well seen in movies this weekend toand would like to talk about all theand all will foreshadowing for now there are first story is one for to be believed in return for wonder woman into next energyand production company from the follow up team will be for one element with the thinking encouraging radio to drop very importantand already contracted to return for a wonderful people is certainly the current WB with the Internet that might when you think about how they’re not part of the plane windowand the people of the well in this rumor is actually trueand everybody is weakand was covering it primarily as a rumor but it does speak to something that could be going on in Hollywood right now where you wonder where the powershift is a me just like in the movie wonder woman he came out was such a box officeand critical success in our Patty Jenkins suddenly have more clout to negotiate a higher contract so you will get the history of Hollywood from its inception all the way to where we are now aware that had so much power not even is talking about dollarsand cents but also in being able to snap their fingers make decisionsand greenlight things Patty Jenkins now getting equal pay to her male counterparts also make blockbuster movies now you look at the star of wonder womanand she is to be calling the shots particular case like bread rather think I don’t want them involved that it is raises a lot of questions about who really has the most leverage when you consider wonder woman I would argue to gather the might not have had as much of the success of the first one woman Jenkins however she is the most vital part the only had one person you needed to return for wonder woman to I would say would be the star over the director we got paid Jenkins locked in nowand now in order to make this movie it appears from this rumor that we need to ditch Brett Ratner’s production company is acting to be the right move that has to be the only move I haven’t seen Justice league all I can really say is one woman is one of the stars outside the flash that will steal the movie doubted out has has proven herself as an incredible actress Natalieand one woman is a standout she’s got this the shining spot of BBSand she just took it with one woman I mean literally anybody you had issues about her acting you know just watch one roomand then you know eat your own foot you know that’s one of those situations where yet as I Celia Brett Ratner enough to get enough money make but make our heist for whatever while you a lot of movies coming up soonand it doesn’t like the way to that whole situation came out Christian it’s that Warner Bro pretty quickly severed ties with Brett Ratner know that he write his statement to get out these to take the timeand work on it for what what whatever crap they usually sexand Warner Bro very quickly like no we don’t want any time you have a parking space on the lot anymore so are they going to be able to cut ties with his production company because they they may have multiple contracts in place this is necessarily Brett Ratner being on separate as his company so can you legally maneuver your way around him producing future movies is a very tricky situation because it is not as easy as just saying you’re out here because what they did is a payment settlement that were doing that first but then got a note saying you know what I know he still involved because production companies still involved is still getting used to profiting for work that I’m doing is the profiting for word rat pack that Patty Jenkins doing so as long as he’s profiting I do not want to help him profit that’s the message so as far as like stars getting the power know that that that was happening it is the particular one time certain of one time at a particular circumstance with everything is happening today climate lies that this is a move that is a strong move that is the right move to do however what is now called into the spotlightand Warner Bro now has has to say well we thought we got out of this thing because we set our leaders can like to check on the side will get you Patty you don’t you’re no longer part of the same orbit the star the moviesand I’m not gonna do it still involves a what they can have to do is to be expensive than the got Pam off the have to come to you have to come to an agreement to say here’s what we’re going to pay you to get you if they walk out the door to stayand they should because echo you said if you notice just in that the market when he switched the first trail you saw Justice league was not gathered of having the movie comes outand the whole thing is got to have everyone here at the movies pretty got it out so it would make senseand find a way to know’s cutsand how to deal with I set a world where the there so much confusion as to what movies are on the DC or the DCU slate will note that athletic very heavy badand wondering about all the future battle movies you would think doubted I would be the primary person you need to lock down yet especially with flashpoint already hearing she’s gonna be in that if they do do a second Jesse obviously the doing a second one woman so mean the community make it toa no brainer I mean what Warner Bro just has to pay for the entire film that’s what rat pack is like a cofinancing deals in a paper some of it so it might be easier than what we are talking about Christian where it said they just like that you can produce these other movies that have nothing to do with gatherget outand will print will finance those ourselves it could be that simple orchid being friendly complex yellow will have a contracted rack has one brother us even if we do drum is a just released JFK document before I get to that is from a thick stack of paper I don’t know if they have a morals clause with somebody that if you sign this you have to be a somewhat of a good citizen news reporters anchors I learned when I went to cows is that they all signed contracts with whatever network they broadcast the news onand it says certain things in their morals clause if you can’t be out getting hammered at 3 AMand yells out at the because you are representative of the community to a certain extent I don’t know they have that with a production company or the head of a production company because it’s not as simple as Warner Bro thinks they don’t worry will foot the bill for this movie that’s Warner Bros telling rat back to that you’re not gonna be making anything off this movie because we do not want you involved so I could agree with Christian Ashley I think that there is can have to be some sort of ownership by out here but when you looking doubted out staying upand saying I don’t want that she was the sheet she had some sort of mysterious illness a couple weeks ago right the bread around his head because she was supposed to be an awards gala with Brett Ratnerand for whatever reason she wasn’t able to show outside think this is are taking another step in what I can take this anymore there are consequences to actions the point of even the news coming out the perfect movie perfect person to be making ultimately one woman a shining bacon for us all adjustably coming out this weekend by the way so get excited everybodyand now we move on to another storeand unfortunately does not quite get us out of this moral dilemma acquainted report from the director released in

Benefit for The Organic Center inspires, entertains and raises record funds
More than $450,000 raised in annual celebration
Organic science, organic inspiration, organic food, organic fun. These all came together for more than 500 organic visionaries, activists and businesses on March 8 at The Organic Center’s 15th Annual Benefit Dinner in Anaheim, resulting in just over $450,000 raised – a new record — to further the good work of the non-profit research and education organization.
The celebration, whose theme this year was “Bringing Science to Life,” featured award-winning actress, organic entrepreneur and philanthropist Jennifer Garner as the keynote speaker. The highly anticipated event — the single biggest fundraising event for The Organic Center and the largest business networking dinner at Natural Products Expo West — also highlighted new organic research, featured a scrumptious all-organic feast created by Chef Matthew Raiford, live entertainment (and dancing!) and a benefit raffle with the grand prize an organic mattress.
“We’re thrilled with the enthusiasm and support of all the stakeholders who were here, and the inspiration we experience every year at this premier networking event at West,” said Todd Linsky, President of The Organic Center’s Board of Trustees. “This is a celebration of the great work of The Organic Center, which advances and communicates organic’s benefits to the health of people and our planet.”
Garner gave all the credit to her mother for her appreciation of healthy food. Her mother grew up on small farm in Oklahoma, and she made sure that Garner and her sisters always got home-cooked, healthy meals. Garner is now passing that tradition on to her own children, and is also teaching her kids the importance of that healthy home-cooked food being organic, which Garner said she’s appreciated more since becoming a mom.
“As I began learning more about organic, one of the most compelling findings to me personally is that most consumers make the switch from conventional food to organic when they become a parent,” said Garner. “This makes complete sense. As a parent, you make a promise to your child that no matter what your life circumstance, you will try to give them the best you can.”
As artist ambassador for Save the Children’s U.S. program and now as co-founder of Once Upon a Farm organic baby food, Garner is making accessibility to organic and healthy foods her personal mission. “Giving underserved communities access to real foods is something I am personally passionate about, and I know that many of you share my passion,” she said.
Her company, Garner added, is converting the little farm where her mother grew up in Locust Grove, Oklahoma, into a working organic farm from which it will source some of its products.
“To be able to see this farm come full circle—from feeding my mom and her family decades ago, to becoming a working organic farm that will contribute to feeding thousands of children across the U.S.—there is nothing more gratifying and exciting for this daughter of a farm girl,” said Garner.
An incredible year for organic research and The Organic Center
Dr. Jessica Shade, Director of Science Programs for The Center, said it had been an “incredible” year since the 2017 gala: “We set out to bring you major scientific advances around the big topics you care about – things like soil health, climate change, our health and the health of the planet, and this year’s research has been absolutely explosive.”
Shade highlighted the findings just released from a collaboration between the University of Virginia and The Organic Center showing that organic farming can help reduce nitrogen pollution on a global scale. This study, she explained, shows that organic farming – through its recycling of nitrogen – contributes far less to the pool of new reactive nitrogen in the environment and can help to alleviate the critical problem of nitrogen pollution.
Shade said that The Center now has ten active projects with universities and government institutions, with two on track to publish in the next year.
Attendees were treated to an all-organic feast created by Chef Matthew Raiford, who currently is a James Beard semi-finalist for best chef in the Southeast. The sixth generation to farm his family’s land organically, he is an executive chef and owner of The Farmer and The Larder, and associate professor of culinary arts at the College of Coastal Georgia.
The organic menu was created from the many ingredients and products donated by sponsors, and included such treats as open-face tofu sliders, a cheese and summer sausage nosh plate, garbanzo and mango salad, grassfed beef short ribs and Maple & double cream yogurt parfaits.
A benefit raffle was held for those who contributed to The Organic Center, with the grand prize a queen-size Naturepedic organic mattress.
“This year’s benefit was the biggest and the most successful since The Organic Center came under the administrative auspices of the Organic Trade Association five years ago,” said Laura Batcha, CEO and Executive Director of the Organic Trade Association. “It’s been a true honor to be able to help The Center thrive, and we look forward to the exciting projects ahead.”
Sponsors for the event were New Hope Network, Once Upon a Farm, National Co+op Grocers, UNFI, Nature’s Path Foods, Organic Valley, DanoneWave, Annie’s, Stonyfield Organic, Frontier Co-op, Whole Foods Market, Foster Farms, Josie’s Organics, Driscoll’s Inc., KeHE, Naturepedic, Clover Sonoma, Aurora Organic Dairy, Braga Fresh Family Farms, Garden of Life, Nancy’s Probiotic Foods and Gallant International Inc.

Laura Angelini Makes Birthday World Event
It was the best birthday ever for Southern California based singer Laura Angelini. The energetic musician and humanitarian flew - on her own dime - in August to Puno, Peru as a volunteer with the Los Angeles-based Angels of Charity and Music (ACM). She returned a week later, the first week of September, a changed woman. During that time, Angelini and the rest of the 36-member all volunteer team - including doctors, nurses, anesthesiologists and non-medical support members - coordinated the sixth annual mission trip to change the lives of more than 250 Peruvian children through free surgeries to repair cleft palates; ear microtia; nose, throat, hand and feet deformities; and, gastrointestinal maladies. "I could easily say this was a life changing experience for me," Angelini said, after returning home to Los Angeles. "I felt such beautiful, open hearts and such gratitude." Angels of Charity and Music is a non-profit organization made up of dedicated musicians, missionaries, doctors, nurses and other volunteers. It was founded in 2010 by Andrea Vicich, also a Southland singer, who performs under the name Andrea Andrea and sings Spanish children's music for Disney and on her own recordings. Angelini has volunteered for fundraising activities with ACM for the past five years, but this is the first time she has flown to Peru as a member of the mission team. Last year, since the trip is annually held around the time of Angelini's birthday, she created a Facebook event whereby friends and family donated to ACM instead of buying the singer birthday gifts. This year, in addition to performing for ACM's annual "Help A Child Smile Again" charity event at a physician's home in Downey, Angelini put her own money where her mouth and heart are and becam e a member of the mission team. The trip was from Aug. 26 to Sept. 1. Angelini also was able to procure donations that paid for the anesthesia for the surgical procedures for the 253 children. "Laura's support, both financially and as a volunteer was such a blessing," Vicich said. "We (ACM) pay for all of the medical supplies, and the anesthesia would be quite expensive if we paid for it ourselves. We were really blessed with that donation." In addition to the annual Peru mission trip, during the rest of the year, ACM provides emotional, financial, spiritual and medical help to low-income families and children of broken homes, as well as orphans and youths living in the streets in the United States and Mexico. The Peru trip is led by ACM's Medical Director, U.S. Surgeon and Ear Nose and Throat Specialist Dr. Terry Shibuya, of Anaheim; ACM President Julian Hanberg; ACM Director Al Sousa; and, Vicich. Procedures performed during the annual trip would likely be otherwise unattainable as the cost for similar surgeries would be upwards of $40,000, according to Vicich. Arriving in Peru was a bit challenging for many of the mission team members, several whom, like Angelini, hadn't dealt with what Angelini called "rugged weather." Temperatures ranged in the 30- to 60-degrees; whereas, the Los Angeles area team was coming from about 80 degree temperatures. The altitude also was a vast difference as Puno — which is known as Peru's folkloric capitol, owing to its traditional music and dance festivals — has an altitude of 12, 556 feet above sea level. "Most of us took altitude illness meds, so it wasn't too bad," Angelini said. Once in Puno, the team was met by children and families eager to know if they'd be selected for the life-altering medical procedures. "Due to time and financial constraints not all the families are able to receive care and some will have to come back next year to try again," Angelini explained. Watching the skilled physicians and medical professionals give of their time to provide medical care to the families of Peru and being part of the mission team was eye opening for Angelini. "I was amazed at how everyone worked together so well and how grateful the children and families were," she said. She told of the excitement exhibited by children and parents when the team first arrived. "One little girl — she couldn't have been more than 5 or 6 years old — came running up to me and hugged me. It was so touching," Angelini said, adding she saw the child again before the surgery, comforted her and again after the procedure and the girl again expressed her gratitude. "It was such a beautiful gift, to see how we were there helping children and families and they were so incredibly grateful for whatever we did," Angelini said. "I couldn't have asked for a better birthday." For more information on Angels of Charity and Music, or to donate, email: [email protected]; visit: www.angelsofcharityandmusic.org or call: 818-835-5226. Program strengthens police-community relations
By Tracy Miller Orange County (CA) Assistant District Attorney
Every day police officers risk their lives to keep our communities safe. Unfortunately, law enforcement’s heroic efforts are often not recognized by local communities.  One way we are building stronger community relationships with law enforcement and highlighting their outstanding work is through an innovative program, OC GRIP.
OC GRIP (Orange County Gang Reduction & Intervention Partnership) shows the community the great work of local police officers, while focusing on preventing minors from joining a criminal street gang. OC Grip has more than 300 partners in 13 cities in Southern California. These partners include police and probation departments, private businesses and non-profit and faith-based organizations.
For over 10 years, through OC GRIP, we have had great success in inspiring children to resist participating in gangs, while improving the community’s relationship with law enforcement.
One of our original partners is the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. In the first year of the partnership, we took 200 students to see an MLB game with exclusive access to batting practice. This year, we took 2,000 students. Over 250 police officers attended to supervise and interact with the at-risk students. This event is an amazing opportunity for students who have never been to a major league ballpark and each of the students earned the right to attend the game by improving their attendance, academics and attitude.
Recently, we partnered with Blizzard Entertainment – the world’s largest gaming company to provide mentorship to at-risk youth.  Blizzard employees and the officers work together to show the students the benefits of receiving an education and to expose them to exciting career possibilities.
The OC GRIP program has dramatically increased student attendance, reduced school suspensions and expulsions, empowered parents and given thousands of at-risk students hope and resources for success. This program creates a stronger and more positive relationship between law enforcement and the community.
Tips to start a gang-prevention program in your community:
Law enforcement leadership and participation ensures the success of the program.
The program is an all-encompassing approach focusing on students, parents and school staff.
Parents must be held accountable for providing their children with the opportunity to receive an education and live a crime free life.
Involve every part of the community to participate in the program and to take responsibility for reducing gang crime.
Empower the community to be partners with local law enforcement.
When the community supports law enforcement and takes responsibility for the safety of its members, our entire society benefits.
Tracy Miller, who is an assistant district attorney with the Orange County (CA) District Attorney’s Office, received her bachelor’s degree from Loyola Marymount University and her Juris Doctorate degree from Southwestern University School of Law. She was the recipient of the Orange Police Department’s Civilian Medal of Honor Award and the 2013 Orange County Department of Education’s Community Service Award. She has prosecuted thousands of cases and throughout her career she prosecuted the first gang injunction case in Orange County. She currently supervises 33 attorneys, investigators and community advocates.

Ex-MANOWAR Guitarist ROSS THE BOSS Inducted Into 'Hall Of Heavy Metal History' At WACKEN OPEN AIR (Video)
RARE BLACK METAL COLLECTIBLES
Wacken Open Air, one of the world's largest heavy metal music festivals, and the Hall Of Heavy Metal History have joined forces to former MANOWAR and DICTATORS guitarist Ross "The Boss" Friedman as the first-ever "Global Metal Ambassador." The onstage induction ceremony took place August 3 in front of 75,000 metal fans, in Wacken, Germany. Joining Ross on stage were Hall Of Heavy Metal History board members Whitney Alyson Ribbins and Steve Goldby. "We are very happy to have had this very special ceremony with Ross The Boss on our stage for the very first time," said one of the Wacken Open Air promoters, Thomas Jensen. "It is a great honor to join with Wacken Open Air to induct Ross 'The Boss' Friedman, with the Hall Of Heavy Metal History Global Metal Ambassador award," says Hall Of Heavy Metal History founder/CEO Pat Gesualdo."If anyone deserves this award, it's Ross. He has been working extremely hard for decades to ensure that metal continues to thrive." "It was a huge privilege to be inducted into the 2017 Hall Of Heavy Metal History, along with Randy Rhoads, Ronnie James Dio, Lemmy Kilmister, and the other superstar inductees," says Ross. "Now I am the very first 'Global Metal Ambassador' in the music industry. That is a huge honor as well." The Hall Of Heavy Metal History is part of the non-profit organization D.A.D. (Drums And Disabilities). Proceeds from both organizations are donated to establish free therapy services and programs to help disabled children and their families. Every January, iconic musicians and music industry personalities are inducted into the Hall Of Heavy Metal History in Anaheim, California. The new lineup of ROSS THE BOSS, the band led by Friedman, performed at this year's Hall Of Heavy Metal History induction ceremony in January at the Anaheim Expo Center in Anaheim, California. Joining Friedman in the group's incarnation are SYMPHONY X bassist Mike LePond, former MANOWAR drummer Kenny "Rhino" Earl and LET US PREY vocalist Marc Lopes. One of the great metal guitarists, Friedman first made his name with THE DICTATORS, before briefly teaming up with French band SHAKIN' STREET. But in more recent times, he became renowned for his work with MANOWAR. A founding member, Ross recorded six albums with the band, before leaving after 1988's "Kings Of Metal". Since then he's worked with MANITOBA'S WILD KINGDOM, BRAIN SURGEONS and THE SPINATRAS. Now he's back doing what he does best — playing loud, true heavy metal with DEATH DEALER and ROSS THE BOSS.
