While the idea of mermaids have always held a certain allure, their siren song supposedly leading men to their deaths, the artist Nomiwa has taken this concept to another level with his "Sad Mermaid Ohayo" creation, the form being an inflatable doll rendition of the half-woman, half-fish creature. With his original drawing of her declaring this "Mermaid Girl" as representing "Memories of [an] infaltable doll", this adorable and disturbing piece debuts in two renditions, the "mint blank" (pictured above) and the "punk version" (pictured below right). Nomiwa is back with his "Tengu" & "Hannya" soft vinyl figures... and these SpongeBob SquarePants-inspired "Hannya" (般若) and Patrick Star-esque "Tengu" (天狗) come to us in an all new edition, and yes, this "Classic Cartoon" edition is fashioned after just that, SpongeBob and Patrick! For seven years, from 2004 until 2010, there was a Saw film released to accompany Halloween, and this year that tradition makes a return with the film Jigsaw coming out! To mark this occassion, the artist Nomiwa has taken his SpongeBob SquarePants-inspired "Hannya" (般若) and Patrick Star-esque "Tengu" (天狗), hand-painting details on both that recall the likeness of the film franchise's iconic puppet character. Titled, appropriately enough, the "JIGSAW" edition, these are being sold first come, first served to those that reserve copies by emailing nomiwa2016@gmail.com using the title "Jigsaw Tengyu and Hannya" and including their Name, Mailing Address (inc. Country), Phone Number, and Paypal Address in the email's body. And at only $220 for the pair, we doubt these sets will last long… Of course, some people may be holding out in the hopes of winning the chance to buy the rare special edition version with hair (pictured below). We'd previously announced that Nomiwa, the artist behind "Hogoda", had a SpongeBob SquarePants-inspired piece titled "Hannya" (般若) forthcoming in soft vinyl, altering the cartoon character into the likeness of the jealous female demon that possesses two sharp bull-like horns and a leering mouth from traditional Noh theater, but now we learn there's more to it… There's "Tengu" (天狗), the rough shape of SpongeBob's best bud — Patrick Star — merged with an interpretation of the Japanese folk tale creature thought to be disruptive demons and harbingers of war. The stunning designs of Nomiwa, the artist behind "Hogoda", has the new above-pictured "Hannya" creation coming in soft vinyl from Unbox Industries! Hannya (般若) is a mask used in Noh theater, representing a jealous female demon that possesses two sharp bull-like horns and a leering mouth… And you can see that on this Spongebob Squarepants-esque body, sagging tits flying free. Based on the artist's illustration (below left), the sculptural conversion on this work appears very accurate. While the confusingly worded announcement from new soft vinyl maker Nomiwa that a "second version of Hogoda has been produced in a soft vinyl courtesy of Unbox [Industries]" makes it sound like the pictured version is the one being produced, this is actually the version that debuted last year at Toy Art Gallery's DCon Booth #1221 (see here). Based on the colorations of the sea-dwelling mantis shrimp, this strange merging of Buddhist imagery and insectoid structure is absolutely stunning and, if you missed out, it can be yours now! Well, it can be yours if you're lucky enough to win the email lottery at least.
