My Review of Nobunaga: King of Zipangu
"Nobunaga: King of Zipangu" is so fucking good, it's great. The music throughout is great, especially in the final episode, just brings me to tears. The battles are pretty good. Although some scenes felt like they dragged on and/or I personally didn't like, I'd say that all around, I loved it.

back to the Nobunaga taiga
Nagashino was nicely done
like yeah they obviously kinda copied Kagemusha with the whole setup and cinematography but for a TV budget it was rather impressive
also before that, Nobunaga just casually slaughtered about 20k people (again), like dude, maybe chill

I HATE THIS FACT
You know what happened if you betray your beloved Gongen?
Ah yes, the bonds curse is f*cking real. My new man works protagonist are HOLYSHITWTFITSIEYASUUUUUUUUUUU.
Explanation:
Blue: Mori Ogai stuff
Orange: Tokugawa stuff
Young Zushio (Sansho Dayu movie) were potrayed by Tsugawa Masahiko who also played as Tokugawa Ieyasu from taiga dorama Aoi Tokugawa Sandai.
Look those aristrocrats happy faces! Look! Give them big respect!
Tsugawa Masahiko known as the best Ieyasu actor among jidaigeki fans. According to Wikipedia and https://www.sponichi.co.jp/entertainment/news/2018/08/09/kiji/20180808s00041000436000c.html, He were playing as Ieyasu in other movie/series too for five times. I think only Aoi Tokugawa Sandai that make fans can't unsee Ieyasu! whenever they see him on tv. However, he already passed away in 2018 which make me sad too.. :'(
Next,
the cutie from Nobunaga The King of Zipangu that make me scared cuz his cold expression when mad to his son Nobuyasu and legendary Battle of Nagashino scene from this dorama get 7M views but no one realized him and Kiryuu VA as TAKEDA KATSUYORI were there, thanks for a fellow from youtube.
Before shapeshifting into a tanuki, he was our dearest balletfucker, Ota Toyotaro. I wasn't paying attention in Zipangu before until I search who was the actors after rewatching that damn inaccurate Maihime movie and BAM! Found the fact he played as Ieyasu in Nobunaga dorama too.
Is his face familiar to you? Did you know who is he? Do you want to be his OYOME SAMBA?
Yup, He's Go Hiromi. Before he got famous as a gigachad jiji singer, he got his first debut as supporting actor from taiga dorama, Shin Heike Monogatari as young Taira no Tsunemori when he still 16 years old in that time.
According to this site, both of the actors got special place in taiga dorama fans heart especially who love TOUSHOU DAIGONGEN hardcore-ly. Of course, Sir Tsugawa got 1st because the way he potrayed Ieyasu was villain like but funny and unique due he was the main character of the dorama but until EP 25 even still called Hidetada "Heta kuso" while lying on his deathbed.
In other hand, Hiromi got 4th place although he only got short screentime. It was short af. How wi ken got sum fenservis der? Even we don't get a special ost sung by him. At least we can see "The true color" of Ieyasu muahahaha! But I still don't get why someone from twittah said he was the worst Yasu. Dude, please, he just got short screentime even not get 5 minute as total and he ain't the protag cuz HE AIN'T THE SIXTH HEAVEN DEMON KING.
Anyway, he was the first ex Johnny's who have potrayed Ieyasu well. Seems followed by other Johnny's member too, eh?
Suddenly callout trivial stuff lol
Anyway, the coincidence how they got the role as the protagonist of well-known japanese literature adaptation movie (but Maihime is inaccurate af ) first then got role as Tokugawa Ieyasu, still amuse me and made me realized that I can't get out from Toushou Daigongen cult but I already loved the writer and his works too.

Rating taiga dramas I have seen so far
Hideyoshi (1996): 9/10
Overall one of the best ones. Really good cast, best Monke, intimidating and charismatic Nobunaga, sympathetic and very tragic Mitsuhide, Hidenaga actually plays a major part (a rarity in taigas), One My Beloved, Hideyoshi’s mama is THE BEST, Sen no Rikyu is Nakadai Mother Fucking Tatsuya, the “resident OC” spot is taken by Goemon who starts out a bit annoying but evolves into a great character later. Hideyoshi and Mitsuhide get acquinted in the first episode and for the most part are good friends (occasionally rivals) so the fallout is pretty damn sad. Their mom are also friends, it’s adorable. The -1 is because it kinda sits down after Yamazaki and drags until people start dying in the last few episodes.
Kirin ga Kuru (2020): 5/10
The good: Mitsuhide, Dosan, Yoshitatsu, Hisahide, the Hosokawa bros, Mitsuhide’s family. Mitsuhide’s beautiful hair (it deserves its own award).
The bad: worst miscast Nobunaga EVER, the resident OCs, the horrid bright green costumes in the first few episodes, the ending is BULLSHIT.
Nobunaga, King of Zipangu (1992): 5/10
The good: great Nobu, portrayed as a human being for once, pretty good battle scenes, Frois is adorable.
The bad: Zuiten. Oh sweet fucking Jesus he is the WORST OC in taiga drama history. WHY. Also: the writers have no idea what to do with Kicho so she just moves to Sakai for a while, Dota Gozen Hates Nobu (le sigh), the buildup to Honnoji is just 1-2 episodes. Also have I mentioned Zuiten SUCKS?
Sanada Maru (2016) - 8/10
The good: best Mitsunari ever, DILF Masayuki (best trickster dad), Masayuki’s ninja boyfriend, pretty good Monke, great Ieyasu who isn’t a mustache-twirling villain despite being the main antagonist, Nobuyuki is a cutie, Grandma Sanada is great, Yoshitsugu and Mitsunari being Library Boyfriends, Uesugi Kagekatsu being sad and gay (as he should), excellent Honda Tadakatsu, Hideyori is a great cast. Yukimura’s iconic armour looks AMAZING.
The bad: miscast Yukimura (too timid, too plain, too old for the first half, and just no charisma whatsoever), no budget for proper battles, annoying Resident OC Girl, not enough screentime for Yukimura’s actual main wife (and she’s badly written too), Chacha and Hideyori don’t even die what the fuck?!
Gunshi Kanbee (2014) - 9/10
The good: mostly really great cast, amazingly written relationship between Kanbee and his family/retainers, best Monke (reprising the role, perhaps even better), pretty good Nobu, pretty spot-on despicable but greatly cast Araki Murashige, beautiful Hanbei, great One, really good and emotional finale. No annoying Resident OCs! See, it’s possible!
The bad: Mitsuhide is a complete miscast, Mitsunari is Evil(TM), Nohime is with Nobu at Honnoji for no goddamn reason
Tokugawa Ieyasu (1983) - 6.5/10
The good: Ieyasu’s actor is great and plays him for his entire adult life (although he’s a wee bit too handsome and tall), BEST Nobu ever (so wild, charismatic and sexy), it starts with Ieyasu’s parents getting married so we see their pretty sad lives too.
The bad: Ieyasu is a bit too much of a saint. He should have more flaws. Hidetada is blamed for most of the events at and after Osaka. Mitsunari can’t decide whether he’s evil or not but has a completely unnecessary romance subplot with an OC. The pacing is often terrible, sometimes it’s too fast and sometimes it takes several episodes to get anywhere. Nohime is with Nobu at Honnoji Yet Again.
Yoshitsune (2005) - 8/10
The good: very pretty Yoshitsune, very good Benkei, amazing Kiyomori (same actor as the Nobu in the Hideyoshi taiga), pretty damn good battle scenes, tragic finale
The bad: pacing. PACING. also, Yoshitsune is a bit of a Mary Sue. can’t he have some flaws to make him a bit more human? also, those stupid eboshi hats every adult samurai/noble wears 24/7. They look bad on everyone.

Oh, it appears that Kamakura Dono no 13-nin includes the English text in its logo: The 13 Lords of the Shogun. Previously, I’ve seen the Nobunaga: King of Zipangu one. I wonder if there are more of it (English text inclusion) that I haven’t seen 🤔

Top 5 Shows I saw in 2021 (not of):
5. Nobunaga Concerto (Drama) - 6/10
It was pretty good, I liked some of the music. I then read the manga, I like that one better.
4. My Beautiful Man - 7/10
Chef's kiss. Very good, very enjoyable, but I couldn't binge this, so I put it lower despite its score.
3. The Novelist (2018) - 6/10
I'm a writer, I write & enjoy smut. This has some hot scenes. Overall, it's pretty good.
2. Nobunaga: King of Zipangu - 8/10
Holy fuck! If this wasn't a bit slow then this would likely be higher. I feel like I watched the best Taiga Drama first and everything else is worse. I fucking LOVED this show, it legitimately made me cry, and I love the music as well.
1. Squid Game - 7/10
You possibly already knew this show would be here, and if so, then you should already know why.
1. A Man Who Defies the World of BL (2021) - 7/10
I was able to binge this wonderful and funny show, and it was a great time.
I didn't watch a lot of shows. The scores don't really affect the placing on the list, it's just what I liked more.

a personal look at every oda nobunaga that I’ve seen so far... in as few words as possible. hopefully. (i failed)
Not a ranking or anything, and I’m not judging any actors, just the ‘character’ of nobunaga as he is portrayed. Any version of him that’s around long enough to have a general idea of who he is will be included.
This is also basically my way of archiving every Nobunaga I’ve seen so far.
what I need to watch or finish watching: Nobunaga: King of Zipangu, Hideyoshi (Taiga), Gunshi Kanbei, Tenchijin, Samurai Commando: Mission 1549, Nobunaga Moyu, Goemon, Three Nobunagas, Kunitori Monogatari
I’ll add onto this list as I go through more stuff with Nobunaga in it.
Kagemusha: Stole the show. Partly because Nobu is already outstanding compared to other conservative samurai (like ieyasu or shingen’s men,) and partly because his actor sold it that well. A bit of a spitfire.
Honnoji Hotel: Grew jaded over time, but empathetic and means well. Him being outstanding comes from his ambition. I just love this Nobu.
Nobunaga no Hitsugi: This is a kind, serious, focused Nobu. May or may not be based on how Gyuichi idolised him.
Katen no Shiro: A cool Nobu that knows what he’s doing despite still acting odd in comparison to his peers and having outrageous expectations. he listens when someone tells him something, and regardless of his reaction in the moment, he makes sure it turns out well.
Onna Nobunaga: Despite it being boringly written, this Nobunaga is played well. A no-bullshit type, jaded immediately, but everything regarding this Nobu and romance is meh.
The Kiyosu Conference: We don’t see much of him, but he’s played for goofs and I appreciate just how far they went to find someone that looks so absurdly like Nobunaga’s post-death portraits. Portrayed as tough, but dies quickly.
Toshiie to Matsu: Harsh, but playful and considerate. He cares deeply about his men and uses the sort of ‘tough love’ idea to whip them into shape. Headstrong.
Go: Himetachi no Sengoku: Now this Nobu.. is one of my favourites. For only appearing in a few episodes, we saw glimpses of an extremely complex character. He’s tough on people who annoy him or do things he thinks are illogical, but when faced with a character who tells him like it is (like he SEEKS from everyone else,) he laments his life. Keen on personal honour. Loves his family.
Sanadamaru: We really don’t see much of him, but he’s one of the Nobu who are always one step ahead, but has a real temper. When he gets angry, he is very angry.
Onna Joshu Naotora: This Nobunaga either intentionally or unintentionally strives to be the epitome of something inhuman. Rarely emotes (except in the case of handsome men.. and bread?) and uses “staring for long periods of time” to add to his intimidation factor. Again, I’m not sure whether he’s intentionally being scary or if it’s just a side effect of him being... him. This one’s the most ‘unhinged’.
Kirin ga Kuru: This Nobunaga is one of the more soft and playful ones, but he’s intense when he steps up to the role of it. He really wanted to make his parents proud of him, and was shunned by his family more with every attempt. Now that they’re all out of the picture, he has nothing else to distract him from bigger goals. Since this taiga is still ongoing, I’ve yet to see how he ends-up.
Nobunaga’s Ambition: Koei has a good way of adapting the same person/character differently multiple times. In Nobunaga’s Ambition, Nobunaga starts out as the aloof fool we’re all aware of, but abruptly after Masahide’s death, he shapes up to take over the country. Very driven... no surprise, since the game is about... his ambition.
Samurai Warriors: He varies somewhat from game to game, but he typically always has a “good” sense of humour... that no one else really understands. He doesn’t take life seriously, but takes death seriously instead. Stoic and serious for the most part, but he always has wisdom to share and will find things to laugh at.
Sengoku BASARA: Demon King Nobunaga. Written to embody that title. He doesn’t find any particular joy in killing or torturing (like Mitsuhide,) he just does it when he thinks it’s necessary for his goals. Still, like Samurai Warriors Nobu.. he sure does have a “good” sense of humour; in that he’ll find something to laugh about because it makes him cool. no problems here. He has a warped perspective on the ideals most Nobunaga have: he wants to end war... by destroying everything.
Gakuen BASARA: I’m calling it separate because I think the idea of Nobunaga as a “strict headmaster” is .. an interesting character idea. Honestly, he’s not all that strict. All the kids in his school are just morons, and he JUST SO HAPPENS to respond to it and their death threats by blowing them up, I guess. But he is deeply protective over his school (not so much the kids) almost caring about it like it’s a living thing and wanting to uphold its rules.
Pokemon Conquest: Acts cold and menacing and doesn’t explain himself clearly enough, which is why his sister leaves him and starts a revolt in the first place. He is so infatuated with talking like the riddler, or something. JUST BE CLEAR, mAN!! But, in the end of the game, one particular all-seeing eye assures him that it knows he has good intentions, and he’s allowed to remain. Was a fun kid.
Onimusha: He’s your typical satan-y hammy villain, and becomes a blob of meat in the end. He’s one step ahead,
Nioh/Nioh 2: Unlike other Koei adaptations of young Nobu, Nioh 2′s version of young Nobu is similar to their older Nobu. They’re both amused by small things but have a strong sense of pride and won’t do anything they don’t already want to do themselves.
Nobunaga Concerto: The actual!Nobu in Nobunaga concerto is a more reserved nobunaga, no doubt thanks to him assuming the role of Akechi Mitsuhide, under a headscarf. Saburo, the guy who takes actual!Nobu’s place, is a “typical goofy japanese teen”, but when placed in serious situations, he lives up to his role as a warlord and takes control.
Oda Cinnamon Nobunaga: This Nobunaga, while played for laughs, has a pretty clear character. When something annoys him, it’s very obvious. When he likes something, it’s very obvious. Otherwise, he’s perceptive and fun type. His stubbornness can get in the way of that, though.
Nobunaga no Shinobi: This Nobunaga is portrayed as more a neutral-good type, which isn’t a surprise considering he’s one of the main characters, and the actual main character happens to be his ninja who he treats almost like his kid. He’s serious most of the time, VERY protective of his sister and wife, quite respectful, and because it’s a humorous show, he can be plenty funny in a deadpan way. When he gets angry, he either explodes or goes into a depressed state where he acts/thinks cruelly.
Nobunaga no Chef: Similar to Nobunaga no Shinobi, this Nobunaga lashes out and acts cruel when angry. It’s more emphasised in this series, though, because he is consistently portrayed as more of a neutral character who acts harshly and seems uncaring on the outside. Buried under his fabulous clothes, however, he has a heart that knows exactly what it wants, and he never intends to do harm to innocents.
That one Toyota Ad Series: Actually, I love this Nobu. I can’t speak Japanese and I haven’t seen the ads translated, but the vibe of this Nobunaga is just great. The premise is that he and Hideyoshi are reborn in modern times, and as you’d expect when a warlord suddenly no longer has to wage war: he’s just chill. A badass type, but he’s prone to being surprised by everything new the world offers him (or when meeting old friends). Also he takes care of baby Masamune. Love him.
