Ch208, Spoilers part 1

Flashback time for Snake 😢

I have a feeling this is his life flashing before his eyes as a reaper reviews his cinematic records, but I don't have confirmation on it.

Finny is running away while crying and apologizing, which is how ch207 ended, while Doll is still holding Snake and crying.

He is thinking about the experiences he's had with each of them, particularly the good times.

And thinking about how he's been given a new chance in life (at least twice) -- once from Noah's Arc Circus and then from our earl. Then he starts to flashback even farther, to when he was kept in a cage as a freak show oddity.

We see numerous cages, most of which contain snakes. It seems that's how he got the snakes he has now; they were brought along to Noah's Ark Circus with him, away from the freak show.

As part of the show, people go into the tent to view him and the snakes. He's kept in rags, without proper clothing, so that people may see most of his scaly skin (and think of him as sub-human or at least savage and wild.

While people watch, the man in charge (I guess) gives him a mouse to eat. Idk if the mouse is dead or just knocked out, but it's not struggling. We can finally see that not only does he have the slitted eyes and fangs, but his tongue is also forked (or possibly surgically split).

Spectators are grossed out and/or excited to see this, but it looks like the father here loses interest quickly and wants to move onto the next attraction, so he pulls his kid away from Snake's cage. The showman also walks away, but I'm not sure what he's saying as he turns to leave.

As soon as he's not being watched, Snake spits out the mouse and gives it to a snake he can reach up towards. From what little I can see of the markings, it might be Wilde.

Then, one day, he has some new visitors....

Not gonna lie, after Doll returned in the last few chapters or so, I've been living in constant fear that Undertaker could possibly be working to bring back all the other Circus members (Like, yeah I'm upset that they died, but them coming back could probably start WWI early)

Ch 205: That Butler, Panic

The chapter is short (only 13 pages plus the cover, with a two page spread toward the end), but full of drama. The shit finally hits the fan and Snake learns what really happened to the circus troupe and what Doll really is.

My summary translation follows. Please be respectful of the work and money I put into these by not reposting without credit.

The chapter begins where the last left off, with the orphans, Finny, and Snake finding Doll being given a transfusion of Canopus blood by two of the human workers.

Snake asks why Doll looks in this condition, and the workers try to explain it away by saying Doll is getting a medical procedure for an illness.

But Theo calls them on their bullshit, saying they’re lying, recognizing the label that says Canopus on the blood Doll was getting.

He accuses Doll of being a star lord.

One of the workers basically challenges Theo back, asking what their intentions are and that they’d better think carefully before responding, while pulling a gun on them.

She fires, and Finny springs into action, protecting the orphan clones and getting hit in the shoulder in the process.

He yells at them to run, and they do, but Doll picks up a shard of glass and does a Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon leap and springs over them, cutting off their escape.

Doll says now that they know everything, they won’t let them pass.

Snake is so shocked he speaks as himself, asking, begging for Doll to tell him that it isn’t true, that they aren’t a star lord.

Doll apologizes to him for lying, and says of all people, they didn’t want Snake to know the truth about them.

“I’m a monster,” Doll explains. “That night at father’s, I died. No… I was murdered. By Ciel Phantomhive.”

Doll explains how father (Baron Kelvin), Joker, and their entire family were killed like insects, and then recounts in graphic, sardonic detail how everyone died:

Wendy and Peter were hunted down and shot like prey by the maid;

Beast (and Dagger) were dredged in flour and deep fried alive;

And Jumbo was even worse— his guts and head were pulverized by the gardener.

On the final page, Doll tells Snake he’s been tricked into working for their enemy, and urges him, as family, to join them in getting revenge against the Phantomhives.

The chapter ends there, so we’ll need to wait for next month to see how Snake responds…! This also means that Undertaker must have seen what happened that night, and either told Doll or inserted it into their records….

A tragic parallel between the F.O.L orphanage and Baron Kelvin’s workhouse

I wanted to point out that it’s interesting “the oldest siblings” of each group actually aren’t the ones getting their “fledging day” first. 

In fact, as we could see with this chapter, little Ginny who was scared of horses, something unbefitting of her aptitude as a Corgi, is the one who got a sudden “fledging day”. 

Thanks to this chapter, it’s also pretty obvious that “the oldest siblings” know where the other kids are sent, as indicated by Oliver’s and Artie’s scared reactions in this chapter.

The “oldest siblings” being aware of what’s going on also explains why Oliver sort of “protected” Daniel, when he conveyed to the adults that he didn’t fit in the Collie group. 

In other words, when the operation needs a kid (for blood or some other reason), it’s those who don’t fit in who get taken first so, Ginny aside, we should also definitely worry about Daniel but also Nick from the Pomeranian group.

Focusing a little bit on Artie, a Mastiff, who brought Daniel, a Collie, to his class and Oliver who interrupted Daniel talking about “fledging day”, it seems the “oldest siblings” are trying as hard as they can to protect the other kids from meeting a terrible fate. This also explains Theo’s helpful attitude with Ginny in the last chapter: 

However, despite Theo’s best efforts, the adults noticed that Ginny was not living up to her aptitudes as a Corgi and she’s now about to reach “fledging day”. ://

The “oldest siblings” also definitely know that Doll is probably the one who’s watching over the whole orphanage operation, as indicated by their reactions when Snake introduced himself as Doll’s acquaintance...

...And it’s very interesting, because I think it creates a parallel with Doll’s own situation, back when she was alive. 

After all, as a kid from Kelvin’s workhouse, when she joined Noah’s Ark, Doll began abducting kids with Joker and co to satisfy Kelvin’s madness but also to protect their younger siblings back at the orphanage. However, this was all for naught, as Kelvin had already killed those kids for his mad project, something our!Ciel discovered at the end of the arc.

At F.O.L orphanage, the “oldest siblings” act similarly: they were probably told the sad truth behind this orphanage and they have no other way but to go along with it in order to survive, which makes them accomplices, while still trying as hard as they can to protect many of their fellow “siblings” so that they won’t get to their “fledging day” too quickly. 

It’s tragic really and, since they think Snake and Finny are Doll’s friends, they probably won’t trust them to help. :/ 

The single silver ray of hope I have is that Theo reminds Finny of someone: could be either twins or it could be a kid from Finny’s own tragic past from that scientific lab in Germany and, in that case, if Theo can eventually trust Finny, then maybe Finny and Snake will learn the truth and help save all these kids.

It would also make a beautiful parallel with Theo reading Fenian cycle... 

...since our Finny is indeed stronger than many others and could definitely help saving them. 

TL;DR Doll probably pushed the “oldest siblings” into the same situation that she experienced when she was alive: become accomplices in order to survive but also to protect innocent children, which is exactly how she lost herself and died. Here’s to hoping that Snake (who wasn’t a part of Noah’s Ark abduction ring) and Finny (who’s very strong) will be able to realize the truth in time, in order to help these children.

sometimes i feel like the people reading black butler forget that the whole premise of the narrative is a boy who saw his entire family and household massacred on his birthday is tricked into forming a revenge pact with a demon that was summoned by the cult that killed his brother after abusing the two preteen boys for weeks on end, to bring equal humiliation, pain, and suffering to everyone responsible for the aforementioned horrors committed against him. “its so dark” like yeah… what gave it away? “the subject matter is so heavy” again… what part of the narrative set up made you think it wouldn’t be? like you know how this is ending, right?

Ch205, Spoilers part 2

Ok, so there was a little more than half of the chapter left. Here it is.

Finny throws the two jars and apparently tells the others to run...

...but all of a sudden, Doll grabs a large piece of broken glass (from a broken jar) and has the energy to run and leap over them. (I guess they really don't bother with undergarments with those togas...)

Looks like she's addressing Snake specifically, which makes sense.

She's definitely about to tell him about her death and the deaths of their other first-string members from the circus.

She's holding the broken glass so hard that she's cutting herself, and the blood starts dripping from her hand.

First she talks about her own death, by Sebastian, at our earl's command. Then she talks about Joker and Kelvin. She didn't witness their deaths, but I'll get to that again in a moment.

Then Mey-Rin shooting Peter and Wendy. Then Baldo killing Beast and Dagger. Again, she didn't witness these deaths, but she somehow knows about how they died. At least she seems to know some details? I'm not sure.

Next she mentions that Finny is the one to kill Jumbo.

To her, our earl, Sebastian, Mey-Rin, Finny, and Baldo all seem evil.

Doll might be running out of energy again, because she's leaning against the wall now.

I'd read somewhere around here that Doll wants Snake to help her kill Finny and the rest of the Phantomhive household.

This would be a really good setup for Snake to flashback, since he now has a huge choice to make, like I talked about recently.

It's also possible that Finny flashbacks in order to explain why he joined the earl and to argue for Snake to remain loyal to them, not to Doll and the circus.

Noah's Arc Circus Headcanons (Since nobody ever does them) [Joker and Beast]

Hello, all! I am suffering from writers block at the moment, not to mention I've got finals coming up, but I'm still trying to push myself to post something, so have these random-ish headcanons. (Reminder that I won't be doing all of the characters, just Joker and Beast since I'm stressing lowkey 😭����- I will definitely write more for the other circus members in the future)

Joker

Before Joker and the others were took in and founded the circus, he reached a point where he had no hope for his future. He really just thought that was it, and that he'd be living on the streets with his family until he died, probably at a young age too.

As a result, this is why after he and the others were taken in by Baron Kelvin, he felt such a strong obligation to serve him and follow every order he was given.

At first, it was seemingly simple tasks, and I like to believe they were originally hired as servants or something along those lines, but as Kelvin's obsession with Ciel and being perfect took a turn for the worse, that is when he told Joker and the others that he wanted them to run a Circus.

Joker, just being thankful to be under somebody else's care, assumed it was some sort of fundraiser for them to accumulate some extra wealth.

But very quickly, things took a dark turn. In the beginning, there was a lot of arguing (rightfully so), but eventually Joker gave in, feeling like this was his obligation, as if he was paying his dues to Kelvin for taking him in along with the others.

Deep down (not really that deep down, it's very evident to him) he knows what he's doing is horrible, but it's almost like he can't stop, he has to do it to make Father happy. The others have probably tried talking him into going some place else, but nothing seemed like it would work, so they eventually all gave up, feeling the same sense of hopelessness only now with a roof over their head.

(Moving on from the sad backstory, heres some less depressing stuff)

Joker probably takes a while to fall asleep, like...longer than normal. I know I said these would be the less depressing HCs, but I feel like he got so used to having to constantly wake up in fight or flight mode while living on the streets, he probably takes longer to fall asleep even years later.

Consumes so much caffeine. Like he'll probably have 5 cups of tea every day and then coffee if they have it (probably not a lot since coffee wasn't as common in England given most people preferred tea).

But then again, he's a busy man you can't blame him. (totally not projecting.)

Doesn't really think about his mother that much, since he most likely has no idea who she is, but sometimes wishes she'd just keep him and didn't throw him away. He often contemplates how his life could've been different if so and so happened.

Rarely ever gets sick for some reason. Like, the rest of the members have probably gotten a cold or other sickness plenty of times, but Joker just seems to be in decent health all the time, which is somewhat surprising considering how rampant disease is throughout victorian England.

Looking at his hair, it is very intricately done and nice looking. However, some of the little pieces of hair are "crunchy" sometimes because he'll have to use insane amounts of pomade if he's having a bad hair day that day.

Speaking of, he's definitely a little artistic, given that he could style his hair and makeup after living in the streets for most of his life. In the beginning, he would help the other members with their costumes or makeup.

If Joker were to ever be in a relationship (I don't remember if he is or not), he'd be really kind to his partner, always trying to cheer them up and keep them happy.

While he wouldn't exactly be the manipulative type, he'd still be careful to hide everything he's been doing from them, afraid they'll leave him if they know about his actions.

That is, if they don't already know. If he knew that his partner already knew about what he was doing and still decided to be understanding about it, he'd be a lot more comfortable with them, like a weight has been lifted off his shoulders and he has one less person to keep secrets from.

He'd almost constantly give you flowers and do small gestures for you, doing the best with what he has. (I mean, it's a circus..)

Sings to himself kind of often, especially if he's feeling anxious (as seen in the anime). It sort of soothes him and distracts him a bit.

On the surface level, he seems to be a very cheerful and energetic person, but when alone or with the other (original) circus members, he can be much more serious.

If he had a partner, he'd really be sweet to them, but not to a point where he's exaggerating. He'd just be his "normal" self, seeming a bit more quiet than he is to strangers.

Back to the previous point, he would do everything in his power to keep all of the secrets about Kelvin and the missing children from you. If you ever confronted him about whats being said in the newspapers, he'd probably just play it off a mistake, or just bad rhetoric.

As nice as he is, or as he may seem he doesn't give that easily into emotions, which is one thing that makes him so difficult. The others already tried it, but he just doesn't seem to budge whenever anyone brings up the topic of running away or quitting.

"Missing children ya say? ah, don't worry about that- probably just folks who don't want a circus near them is all!" He'd say, making it sound like it was the most obvious thing ever.

He seems just a little too relaxed about it, making it almost suspicious. If you did find out, he'd be devastated. He would probably try to leave you before you can leave him, just assuming that you now hate him.

If you took the opposite route and decided to be understanding, he'd appreciate your empathy very much, but would still be cautious around you for god knows how long, until he fully trusts you again.

He really wishes he could spend more time with you, but he has so much to do all the time.

Probably one of those people that wakes up as soon as the sun comes up. It's like he can literally feel the sun rising, even though the tents have no windows and he's just like "Yeah, I need to get the hell up" 😭

If his mother had the chance to name him, she'd either name him Ryas or Jesse.

Beast

She knows that Joker is probably never going to consider leaving his job working for Kelvin, but she tries time and time again to get him and the others to run away and find some place else where they don't have to keep doing such bad things.

She honestly feels bad, and if you talk to her personally, you can tell just by looking at her that she isn't happy.

Spends a lot of her time alone, except for when she has to meet up with the other first-string members to discuss important matters.

She never learned how to read until she and the others were taken in by Kelvin. They would all read books to enhance their reading abilities, and while doing so Beast actually found she enjoyed it.

While she doesn't get to read often given her environment, she'd definitely be down for it when given the chance.

While she can come off a bit cold to people she doesn't know, she is seriously the sweetest person ever, like...

She's just such a genuine and nice person, even if she has to do bad things to survive.

She hates working under Kelvin. She hates it. But she is still grateful that she can walk on her own, thanks to the prosthetic limb.

In all honesty, her outfit does make her uncomfortable at times. She wishes she could wear something a bit less revealing, since it gives her a lot of unwanted attention, which she can't stand. Don't even get her started on the creepy stares from some men in the audience, she could go on all day!

A lot of the time when she's alone, she likes to pet and cuddle Betty. It's therapeutic for her to pet her- she definitely considers her a friend, despite her being a tiger for a circus act. Beast really feels like they've bonded over the years.

Speaking of that, she probably has a lot of patience even though it may not seem like it. Think about it, her situation with Joker has probably been getting at her for a while now, but she still hasn't snapped.

As for this specific situation, it's definitely one of those instances where a part of her has given up, but the other part still has hope that things can finally get better and they'll all run away together.

She'd like the smell of sandalwood- to her it's one of those scents that you can't exactly remember where it's from, but it's still kind of comforting and makes you reminisce.

She can't always remember all of her dreams, but she has had multiple nightmares of Kelvin harming her and the others because they "messed up" something.

Beast has a sharp intuition, she kind of knows whats up, even if those around her don't believe it. She can sense when people lie, or when something bad is going to happen.

She's generally just a lot smarter than she has been letting on.

Unlike Joker, Beast seems to be a lot softer. Not in a bad way or that she's "weak", but she's a lot more worried about things, and has a stronger desire for stability and safety than Joker does.

Her gut has been telling her to "get the hell out of here" for years, which is starting to really get to her. She knows that herself and the others are mostly unhappy, so why keep living like this?

If she had a partner, she'd definitely try to get them in on running away. If you agree, or even consider it, it would be like all of her hope has been restored.

All she needs is genuine, real reassurance but she just never seems to get any, which is why she'd probably seek that from her partner.

I imagine if beast was real, she'd have big eyes. Not like inhumanly large or anything, but enough to stand out. (No I'm not just saying this because I love all the girl characters from Black Butler because they're so pretty.)

Gets cold pretty easily which kind of sucks, given how Englands climate is, so she likes when the Circus travels to warmer areas.

But then she sweats, so now it's too hot. She can never catch a break oh my god

Gets so frustrated when her hair won't stay in a certain position after like 50 cans of pomade.

Doesn't get to eat them often, but she loves little cakes and pastries.

She doesn't particularly have a sweet tooth, though. She's okay with most types of foods, but probably doesn't eat spicy stuff.

She really enjoys sleeping, since her mind is finally quiet and thoughtless for once. I feel like she's that one person that always needs a nap.

It all started when father found us and took us in from us starving to death. I always loved Dagger however he always preferred Beast over me. Sure she had a rack. She was beyond beautiful. But she never returned his affections. I showed Dagger that I loved him. But... He doesn't love me the way I truly love him. As time passed, father made us into a circus. The Noah's Arc Circus. It was a cruel deed. Kidnapping children for father's plan with that noble. I tried to understand as we traveled we hit the jackpot. England. Where the Earl Phantomive lives. Our main target the father has been obsessed with for as long as I can remember. We met these men we called Black and Smile. Smile seemed like a sweet child. But then there was Black. I noticed him walking around and him with his arms around Beast. "Am I interrupting something?" Beast pushed Black away "he's being a fucking pervert again!" With that, she stormed off. I sighed as the memory of Dagger trying to kill Black by touching Beast's leg. 'What if Black did that to me? Would Dagger do the same for me too?' I felt tears slowly streaming down my face. Black said "is there something wrong my dear? Why I see the way you look at him." I gasped "I don't know what you are talking about! Your delusional Black!" Black smiled and pulled me close. "Black? What on earth are you doing?" He tilted my chin up so I could look at him. "My dear I can see right through you. The way you chase after that boy is truly pathetic. How about I make you feel better?" All of a sudden I heard Joker's voice "ah looks like you beginning to take a liking to our Sleeping Beauty?" I gasped "Joker?" Joker laughed "Aaaaahhhh, my dear Sleeping Beauty is growing up! It's getting late you all should be getting to be." I nodded "of course. Good night Joker. Good night Black." I bowed and made my way to my tent.

I sat on my bed and did some thinking. Black. I couldn't get him out of my head. Dagger... 'why Beast? Is it to much to ask just to want love?' All a sudden Joker said "Oi, Sleeping Beauty." I jumped up "Yes Joker?" "I'm going to see father. I need you to help carry out the mission." Joker told me and I nodded and gave a bow. "As you wish Joker." Joker said "I love you my Beauty. You know that?" I hugged him. "Be safe Joker. Please... You're the only one that seems to love me..." Joker kissed my forehead. "Well, I best be going. I'll see you around my Beauty."

                                                 -TIME SKIP TO THE MISSION TO PHANTOMIVE MANOR-

I ran as fast as I could. I just saw Wendy. She was killed?!?! So was Jamba. 'I have to warn Dagger!' As I ran there was a guy with blonde hair "Your heading too close to Lady Elizabeth's room. Best not wake her!" The guy had a boulder and he was too fast before I knew he threw the enormous boulder on top of me. My screams echoed threw the manor. I said "Please... Don't... Kill... Dagger..." I said in between gasps. "I'm sorry but I have to. I can just finish you off so you don't have a painful death." Before I could say anything I heard Dagger. "Let her go!" I mumbled "Dagger..." Tears flew down my face as I heard sounds and explosions. Dagger managed to get the boulder off me. But I knew... I was a goner... I looked at Dagger and smiled as I was in his arms. "I...Love...You...Dagger..." With that I was gone. I died happily in Daggers arms. With that it was the end of The Noah's Arc Circus...
