So I'm loving the current Hellblazer run, it's a really fun read. Spurrier's original run is one of my all-time favourite series and I'm overjoyed he's been given the chance to pick up where he left off. But since his first run I've always had this question...

fargo thoughts

better than season 3 by miles. but overall…weird. i’ve loved seeing everyone’s theories, but at the end of the day inconsistencies and weird pacing are the major drawbacks of this series. dot, witt and lorraine were the best characters, with dot being consistently compelling and well-acted. witt was under-utilised by the narrative. lorraine takes the cake as a character that really grew on me. indira’s actress did great; again, underused. munch sits in a weird space for me personally but i think that fits; sam spruell was great. jon hamm felt miscast in the first few episodes, but that may have also been me adjusting to the fact that the show was now including an explicitly misogynistic antagonist. idk. really, he just didn’t have that PRESENCE that characters like malvo, mike milligan, hanzee or oraetta had - those are characters who i relished watching. roy tillman is like…like a poor man’s dodd gaerhardt. i hate dodd; and i LOVE hating dodd, he’s consistent, he’s an asshole, he’s got things to do and people to denigrate, his actions make sense. like, why would roy give a shit about that young couple; i can’t even remember why he killed that boy. yes, it makes sense for him to manipulate the girl, but as he’s the most realistic antagonist of any fargo season, it makes it so frustrating that his actions are…really fucking weird at times. he’s an abuser. he would not give a shit that that boy was abusing his wife or that it “looked obvious” or whatever.maybe it was to illustrate the asinine logic “patriots” like roy use to support their actions. idk. i’m not american. lol. gator is nothing to me; definitely the worst of all henchmen, but i liked the resolution at the end for him, because it shows us more of dot’s kindness, resilience & faith (and they were kids together, man).

also, i missed the bloodshed. barely anyone died this season. kind of a bummer. and when someone did die, it had to be witt! danish i wasn’t too sad to see go, it was a fitting death, but cmon man not witt. argh.

also, the final episode just went too quickly. i would’ve liked more between indira, dot & lorraine; most satisfying portions of the ep was definitely lorraine visiting roy in prison and munch at the lyon household, but the opening “resolution/rescue” felt rushed and weird. yeah.

idk. kinda rambling but it was an all over the place season, bit hit & miss, dunno wtf noah hawley meant about it being “more comic” cause it sure wasn’t, though I think I might enjoy it more upon rewatch. But we’ll see. It just didn’t feel like Fargo half the time, yknow?
