after about two in-game years, reisz has finally found a master to like.

some rambling + bonus unhooded bat sketch under the cut

so. evolution has put them thru the ringer. still gotta write down my thoughts about it properly but that about sums it up. (so much happened i feel like somewhat forced to move the timeline an entire year forward. all that zailing sure mustve taken time!!)

and christmas was. weird. lets not think too hard about it k? k.

so i decided to give them a vacation before moving thru any other big storylines i.e. railway.

well, turns out their ideal vacation activity is chasing & poisoning people. (<- me unexpectedly having fun with Heart's Game and trying to go for all the distinctions.) they already have two trophies and only lost twice and their favourite part is by far the feeling of personally administering the final drop of poison. they've always been more of a physical chase + tackle kinda gal but mmm. it has been. dare i say intoxicating.

...reisz hasnt interacted much with any masters at all. they were intimidated by pages (hilarious in hindsight, i know, but they knew Nothing about the masters other than them being Big Deals at the time) and has been ghosting it before they even met edward. they fooled fires & are lowkey wary of it ever finding out but thats all so far.

so this might genuinely be the first positive interactions theyve had with a master. imagine the sims ++ popping up everytime they get congratulated. hearts made this game thats sparking so much joy & it is so nice, even! who wouldve thought a master could be this nice... (⁠人⁠*⁠´⁠∀⁠｀⁠)⁠｡⁠*ﾟ⁠+

fun fact they got a bat of attitude just as they left with their first distinction & its named mr trophies now.

anyway this is the first time i tried to draw a bat in my life. behold.

am personally not a batfucker sadly but i do quite enjoy the little scrunklies & i would smooch all their cute snouts. the ghostie is a mystery though only time can tell

Finals are finished after this week but for now she is finally done. She’s gone though outfit changes, a dozen diffrent faces, so many versions of that bloody trenchcoat and a begrudging delve into package design. But she’s here and looking awesome.

I love how creative the scenes of Barbs expressing his affection are. Instead of simply saying it outright, he will show it usually by pointing out something symbolic of his feelings. Often these symbolisms are quite literal in the sense magic will be involved. Like there will be a magical item that only works if he thinks of someone he loves while he uses it, or a spell that reveals someone's true thoughts and it shows how deeply he cares for mc.

I also love that it's also a way for him to avoid outright admitting what he wants or feels, which is a large part of his character. He usually places the responsibility of initiating intimacy on mc, which is part of a gameplay mechanic yes, but most characters at least lead you into the topic or outright ask. But Barbs generally prompts mc to "guess" what he wants, which is almost always physical contact. It's a way for him to avoid the responsibility of outright asking, as well as testing if mc actually wants and understands him.

He's a character that is both remarkably proactive and passive at the same time. I appreciate the subtlety and nuanaces of his self-expression, especially because he's rather limited due to his role as a butler. He's caught up in the trappings of living 24/7 working in the service industry, and while he is deeply passionate about his work, it puts him at several disadvantages. Especially because he has to keep up appearances constantly. His job literally never ends, even on days off, because the public know he's the prince's butler and he has a reputation to uphold.

Plus he's also a perfectionist on his own terms. He holds himself to such an impossibly high standard that it's no wonder he struggles to "let loose" unless given direct permission to do so. And even then, he almost exclusively refuses to unless completely alone with mc, with no possibility of being interrupted, such as in his room or a hotel. It's the textbook definition of being one person in public and someone else in private.

Therefore, it feels truly intimate when he reveals his thoughts, feelings, desires, and personal tastes. Even more so when he reveals his vulnerabilities, imperfections and mistakes. Those are the moments I treasure the most. The ones where Barbs is nothing more or less than truly himself.

I also love every opportunity that presents itself to take care of him as well. He works so hard to ensure everyone else is comfortable, happy, and well taken care of. He deserves to be loved, appreciated, and tenderly looked after as well. He's my favourite romantic interest in any game I have ever played.
