What Zelda Was Actually Like
What Zelda Was Actually Like - This morning I mull around some thoughts about how maybe I just misremembered how the original Legend of Zelda felt.
Hey Folks! I’ve mentioned a few times that I have been playing around with Yuzu and while I purchased Tears of the Kingdom on my Switch… I didn’t really get into it until I dumped the game and started playing it on PC. Essentially “Breath of the Zelda” series has one fatal flaw as far as I am concerned… weapon durability. I hates it… I hates it so much… and it ultimately destroys my enjoyment of…

Happy New Year.
It was a pretty good year for my gaming hobby and being a Nintendo fan. As usual, I did spend a majority of the year just replaying games I loved, but there were a few new, and new-to-me games that I played this year.
Around this time last the year I was on a Rare kick, playing through all the Donkey Kong Country trilogy, DK64, Diddy Kong Racing, Banjo Kazooie, and Conker. and Mark Kurko's Snowglow Village remake, and this spilled into January.
The Rare stuff also lead to a N64 kick in general, as I found a few decent Mario 64 hacks that worked on real hardware, and I also finished a run of Kirby 64 I started a few years ago and abandoned close to the end.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I managed to make it through a short and easy but very charming Fievel Goes West platformer on SNES. I've got a lot of nostalgia for Fievel so, no regrets there.
I started going back and fourth between The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time, and Banjo Kazooie - the Jiggies of Time, and it was interesting to visit areas of the game as Link only to come back to them as Banjo, this also marked the first time I ever replayed a full length romhack from start to finish.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I picked up several Super Mario World romhacks. Some of them worked out, others didn't, either because of romhack difficulty or hardware incompatibility, but it really was kind of a Mario year for me.
Smash Remix got some amazing updates adding Marina, King Dedede, and Goemon, among other things. I can't wait to see where else that game goes. But speaking of Smash Bros, I also discovered the Akenia build for Super Smash Bros Melee, and I was thrilled to play that game with some characters that came later in the series like Lucas, Diddy Kong, Charizard, Sonic, and Wolf.
And I cleared two Gameboy games for the first time, Donkey Kong Land, and Final Fantasy Adventure, hopefully I can get to their sequels in 2024.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
From there I marathonned a ton of Mario games... the SNES version of Super Mario RPG ( little did I know a Switch remake would get announced later this year ), New Super Mario Bros U, Mario Kart 8, which I managed to get 3 stars on every cup and every difficulty rating, Mario Galaxy, New Super Mario Bros DS, and Super Mario Odyssey, all in preperation to hype myself up for the Super Mario Movie which, against all odds, was fun as hell and filled my little Mario fanboy heart with joy.
Also found mods for Wario Land and Donkey Kong Country returns that made both games far more enjoyable to me. Wario's default walking speed was increased, and Donkey Kong Country's motion controls were mapped to buttons.
Revisited Sonic Riders again, and sadly kind of realized it was not as good as I remembered, having only two grand prix that are largely copy pastes of each other with different lighting. Still prefer the concept of those games than sticking Sonic in a car though.
I discovered a pretty amazing Ocarina of Time hack called the Sealed Palace, which is a it obtuse, but still very good, and I really need to get back to it, I had nearly finished it but went on a hiatus when other things caught my attention. Will finish it in 2024 hopefully.
And one of the big highlights, I finally became the proud owner of an NES. My family had one as a child but it was more for my parents than for me. I mostly played NES games via Nintendo's re-releases or emulation.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Among the games I played for NES, the whole Mario trilogy, Zelda, Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers, Final Fantasy 1, Dragon Quest 1, Metroid MOTHER, Kid Icarus, Super Mario Bros 3+, Mega Man 2, Kid Icarus, Duck Hunt, and I started up Final Fantasy 2, but have yet to finish it.
And in April I went to Super Nintendo Land. The experience was slightly soured for me but I had fun and got some cool merchandise. The actual ride was a little underwhelming though, and I didn't even get to go to the Toad Cafe.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In anticipation for the Legend of Zelda, Tears of the Kingdom, I replayed Link's Awakening, and Breath of the Wild, had a great time with both of them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then Tears of the Kingdom came along and completely absorbed my life for two months. I still miss playing it. Maybe i'll replay it sometime in 2024? It'll be interesting to see if my opinion changes at all, but so far, this one is in my top 3 Zelda games. It's not perfect, but honestly, mention any Zelda game to me and I can give you a laundry list of flaws for each of them, so a Zelda game not being perfect is old news. But it doesn't make them any less great. I think this one is just contentious because 1. it took 6 years, 2. purists of the old Ocarina Cone style of Zelda games are worried that they'll never enjoy Zelda again. They have my sympathies but honestly I don't ever want to go back to the old style of Zelda unless it's for a 2D game.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I actually tried to give Skyward Sword another try, I bought the Switch version, but like with every attempt to replay that game since it's launch, I just find myself really irritated by all the exposition that I just quit playing early on.
Against my better judgement I bought Sonic Origins Plus on Steam, and it has some performance issues. I really didn't need it, I love that Amy is playable but I kind of prefer her Sonic Advance move set, which fans had already modded into the genesis games. I think i'd rather just get an actual Sega Genesis to play these games on someday.
I finished raising every single digimon on my Digimon Version 20th v-pet, which is essentially like completing the "pokedex" but for digimon. Sadly not every virtual pet tracks that information, so I won't get to attempt that again.
There was a double dose of Ninja Turtles with TMNT II the Arcade game for NES and Shredder's Revenge on the Switch, I think a certain movie came out around this time of year that put me into a Turtle frenzy because I also started watching the cartoon around that time of year.
I am not mentioning every little NES game or hack I play but I want to higlight two excellent Zelda hacks called the Legend of Banjo and the Legend of Super Mario, which are exaclty what they sound like, Zelda 1 but with a Banjo Kazooie and Super Mario makeover respectively, both are very well designed and arguably a lot more friendly to players that aren't experts at Zelda 1, and do a great job at selling the illusion that they're intended to be Mario and Banjo games.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
One of my big regrets for the year was Nickelodeon Kart Racers 3, Slime Speedway, which I bought because 1. I was done with the Mario Kart DLC and wanted more racing game, and 2, I was on a nickelodeon kick and was hyped up from the pre-release of Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2.
Slime Speedway is just not very well made. I am generally accepting of low FPS but two genres of games that shouldn't have them are racing games and fighting games. And it's very sad because I feel like NKR3 could be one of the better Mario Kart clones if it was better optimized and had less annoying sound clips... Nickelodeon All Star Brawl 2 was a good game but my hype deflated when I learned it would be cutting ELEVEN characters. Also the Switch version performs like ass but I really wanted to be able to take it to a friends house, so I didn't do the smart thing and buy it on Steam.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
October is usually when I do my month long Halloween celebration of only consuming spooky media. But Nintendo and Sega had the nerve to plan big Mario and Sonic releases that month, interrupting my plans. But I did manage to slip in some spooky gaming, with Luigi's Mansion, an Evil Dead hack of Wanpakku Grafitti: Splatterhouse, and a Super Mario World Halloween hack, as well as a Kirby Halloween romhack. There was also the promising Super Mario 64 hack - Super Mario and the Monstrous Manor, but it seemed to lose it's spooky flavoring half way through, so I put it on pause for now and will come back to it in 2024.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don't need to say much about Super Mario Wonder. It was wonderful. Easily the best 2D Mario in decades. It can definitely stand toe-to-toe with the original NES trilogy and Super Mario World. But Sonic Super Stars on the other hand? It's fine, but the bosses suck ass, especially the final boss, who isn't even interesting since it's just the Sonic 3 and Knuckles final boss again but without the Doomsday Zone sequence.
Super Mario RPG came out in November and it was a delight. My second time playing the game that year, I never would have seen it coming in a million years, but i'm so happy that it did. I already want to replay it.
I was put into the mood for Square RPGs, something I always felt like I missed out on growing up. So I started up Final Fantasy IV, which I played before, but never finished. I need to get back to it but I am officially at the point where I stopped playing last time, about to storm some tower in the underworld while the red wings are being distracted by tanks.
In December I started feeling Donkey Kong again and played the first two DKC games, and a few levels of Tropical Freeze, I thought i'd finally try out that new Funky Mode. I then realized that I was playing the exact same games around this time of year last year. Pure coincidence, but I do kind of want to play the rest of the Rare platformers...
I bought my first ever Mario sports game in Mario Tennis Aces, and I had a blast with it, though the adventure mode was surprisingly difficult, I have also bought Kirby and the Forgotten Land but have not really dug into it much. I guess my appetite for Kirby isn't what it used to be, that and my mood lately has been mostly on Mario. Maybe I should finish Yoshi's Crafted World, I got that in 2022 and have not played it at all this year...
Mark Kurko did his annual Christmas Romhack for Banjo Kazooie. I played it on Christmas Eve, and on Christmas Day, I replayed all his past romhacks. I think I might make that a new tradition, to replay all the christmas BK hacks, and whatever else I have. I found a decent Mario 64 Christmas hack as well, though it's only a single level.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And to cap off the new year, I started up a run of Animal Crossing for the Gamecube. I've been at it for a week and a half now. I am curious to see how long I can keep it up. But I have already found two NES games, and I kind of want to see if I can get the whole set and build an NES arcade in my basement, just like old times.
There's not much for me to look forward to in 2024 as far as I know, just the Mario vs Donkey Kong and Paper Mario TTYD remakes really, as I'm not too interested in the Peach game. But I hope we get some exciting announcements. I just am not ready for that announcement to be a Switch 2, I'm so tired of buying new machines.

Out of curiosity since you've mentioned The Legend of Zelda before, are there any of those games that you would reccomend? I've never played them before. I like Pokemon, Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts if that helps
RUBBING MY HANDS TOGETHER EVILLY. OKAY. SO. i don't know anything about final fantasy or kingdom hearts unfortunately but i CAN take a wild guess and say that if you like pokémon there's a higher chance that you're a fan of 2D games because a good majority of fans are in agreement that pokémon was better when it was 2D. in which case. let me put this under a readmore so people who aren't interested in zelda don't get annoyed lmao:
first of all i have to recommend my favorite game in the legend of zelda series ever which is the minish cap. it's definitely the most polished 2D zelda game out there (aside from four swords adventures but that was on a home console not a handheld) and all the spritework is SO good and cute and filled with whimsy and does actually remind me of pokémon. and the soundtrack is an absolute banger AND it isn't a terribly long game at all so it can serve as a great little introduction for people getting into zelda. a couple other fun 2D zelda games (and these will probably appeal more to people who are fans of the original rby/gsc because of the style) are link's awakening (which does have a switch remake) and oracle of ages!!! oracle of seasons was fun to me but most people agree that oracle of ages was much More fun. if you want more of what the majority of the zelda series is about there's a link to the past, which was released in 1991 (so before pokémon) and features link, zelda, and ganon, who are all the Main Three of the games.
aside from that, if the 3D games interest you, a link between worlds (successor to alttp but you don't have to play it to understand what's going on) is REALLY good with a KILLER fucking soundtrack. spirit tracks is wonderful and you ride in a train the whole game for people who are ingo & emmet fans. ocarina of time is probably the most influential zelda game out there aside from a link to the past and in certain games (wind waker [sailing on the ocean!] and majora's mask [THE TIME LOOP GAME OF ALL TIME]) some things will go directly over your head if you don't play ocarina of time first. skyward sword is fucking AWESOME and i cried like a baby at the end of it.
and. this is just me personally but i cannot stress this enough. avoid breath of the wild and tears of the kingdom like the fucking plague. if you do play them you cannot think of them as zelda games. they're alright games for people who like them i guess but they're genuinely the worst fucking ZELDA games in the franchise. i am so serious about this. i'm trying to make my way through breath of the wild right now (previously i'd just watched a playthrough) and it is legitimately so fucking boring and the soundtrack is GODAWFUL. pokémon legends arceus did everything 100000x better than breath of the wild absolutely no argument. and even diehard breath of the wild fans were disappointed with tears of the kingdom which should tell you everything you need to know.
ANYWAY. tl;dr: play minish cap, link's awakening, or oracle of ages if you want some fun 2D games (very easily accessible on an emulator or homebrewed 3DS, or nintendo switch for link's awakening remake). play a link to the past (easily accessible on an emulator) or ocarina of time (has a 3DS remake; opens up the door to gain a better understanding of wind waker and majora's mask*) if you want the Classic Zelda Storyline to understand what's kind of going on everywhere else. play a link between worlds (3DS) or skyward sword (wii or nintendo switch) if you want a good 3D game where things are less likely to fly over your head.
*majora's mask and wind waker can very easily still be played without playing ocarina of time! there are just some things in the game that'll woosh straight over your head if you haven't played them. also okay that's a lie about wind waker being easily accessible because it's only available on the nintendo gamecube or wiiu BUT majora's mask does have a 3DS remake just like ocarina of time so if you've homebrewed a 3DS you're good to go on that end. OKAY i'm done

Part 3
7th grade (2018-2019)
7th grade was the best. It probably wasn't that good, and I remember it with rose-tinted glasses, but I remember actually being happy and actually liking school. insane, I know. I had a really tight-knit friend group. I had a best friend who best friended me back. I loved math and I was good at it too (what a plot twist!). I worked out and ate healthy (well kinda, it was healthy compared to now). I had to get glasses because I messed up my eyesight just the summer before by playing so many video games and writing a lot, but I didn't mind. I still kept journals. My ramblings were still in Turkish but now sandwiched between lists of new English words I came across on the internet every day. I started using a pen some of the time instead of a pencil to write (That might seem like a really unnecessary detail, but over time I came to hate the feel of pencil on paper). My notebooks are much bigger now.
Oh, okay, I remember really wanting a Nintendo 3DS (handheld gaming console) to play Ocarina of Time (it's exclusive to the 3DS; well, thats the remaster version; the original is a N64 game). Now you don't have to own a 3DS to play Ocarina of Time; actually, just use an emulator. Tell that to my 7th grade self. I actually wanted to buy a Nintendo Switch and play Breath of the Wild, but that was too expensive in my mind, so I decided to go for a 3DS to satiate my longing. Gosh, I made a cardboard version of a 2DS, and I made it at school during the art lesson.
The thing is, Nintendo consoles really aren't popular in Turkey. PlayStation is, Xbox is, but Nintendo? Nope. That made things harder for me. First of all, there is no regional pricing; they sell the games dollarized, and the Turkish lira was losing its value against the dollar even back then. Well, to be honest, Playstation doesn't have regional pricing either, but since Playstation is widespread in Turkey, you can buy games secondhand for cheaper, which is not the case for Nintendo at all! Anyway, my mom had a friend living in the United States, so he bought one for me and sent it with international cargo. I had the intention to pay, so I picked one of the older models so it would be cheaper, but then he just gifted it to me. Not gonna lie, I wished I picked a better model.
Tumblr media
Me playing pokemon x on my link edition 2ds. I put stikers on it.
Oh, remember how I mentioned that I wanted to make a game too? Well, during 7th grade, I designed some characters! It was very Hollow Knight and Undertale influenced. I want to make a platformer with 2D animation like Hollow Knight, but I also want it to be story-driven with fleshed-out characters like Undertale. It would be a weird combination. I haven't played that many different types of games yet, so I didn't know that there was a much better format for the game I was envisioning. I am sure I knew of visual novels back then, but I didn’t know of their potential yet.
I made quite a few designs, but I was only satisfied with three of them. I'm not going to show any of my designs here, but maybe one day.
Anyway, aside from me picking up a 2DS in 7th grade, the summer was uneventful. No wait, I also bought a drawing tablet for my laptop to make animations because I like animation!
Tumblr media
Again this is a really cheap and small one, it’s kinda hard to draw on it.  I recently formatted my PC, so most of the animation is gone now. (ignore my dusty keyboard)
Overall the 7th grade’s summer wasn’t that bad; I got new games to play on Steam too, but it definitely wasn't a blast like the last summer. A bit disappointing, to be honest. and the summer eventually ended.

Journal as Blog Part 1B: Research Statement
For this Assessment, I knew I wanted to address Brief 2 (The Impossible. Fantastical Structures.) using my personal interests as inspiration. It was important that I base the overall design on things I already liked for two reasons. First, I wanted to make sure I would keep having interest in the project until the very end. If I emulated the aesthetics of something I already liked, I would have more assurance I could see this project through until the end with excitement. Second, I wanted to make something that was true to my personal style. As an illustrator, I know that one’s style is an amalgamation of everything that has inspired oneself. Despite being a beginner 3D artist, I wanted to try and transfer my tastes from 2D into 3D. Thus, I started my pre-visualisation work by looking at things I like. I was satisfied with the end result: my plan for my Fantastical Structure 3D project is an embodiment of my tastes and inclinations as both a captive audience and an experienced artist.
The start of my foray into 3D art began with looking at the different video games that I liked aesthetically. I started with the 2020 Nintendo Switch Game, A Short Hike. The game’s creator and designer, Adam Robinson-Yu, has described making the game purposefully “low resolution,” as this often lets players “let [their] imagination fill in the details” (2021). Calling back to when I played the game myself, I knew I wanted to achieve something as charming yet simple as that, with decisions on where to hold back detail being intentional and working towards a cohesive and quaint visual story. From this primary inspiration, I eventually re-discovered the toy series Polly Pocket, which I played with a lot as a child. This matte plastic aesthetic achieved the creative and stylistic visual I sought for in games, but this time in real life. I then knew I wanted to emulate children’s toys to create a bright and fun look. It was something I personally enjoyed looking at, so I knew I wanted to model this type of look for my own project. Basing the design on a real-world object also helped me project what a 3D sculpture would look like.
Tumblr media
In terms of overall design, my primary inspiration was based on the game Monument Valley. Drawing inspiration from the artist M.C. Escher, the game creates captivating surrealist towers that have attractive colours and depict awesome heights (Cordova 2021). Compositionally, they fall on flat backgrounds yet appear fully real with how it interacts on the “ground” it is on. Additionally, I also took inspiration from the games Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch, and Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Both games create quirky fantasy structures that go from strange to unbelievable. I wanted to channel this type of creativity into my own work and not let myself hold back from creating something weird or crazy-looking.
Tumblr media
I also turned to looking at real-world structures that contained a good mix of the surrealist, quirky and weird, and artificially vibrant style I was attracted to for this project. My mind was drawn to the whimsical corniness of the Filipino perya, which are local amusement parks. They are known for being cheap to make it affordable for everyone to come and have fun, and this often results in a bright, cutesy, and kitsch aesthetic. I wanted to take that gaudy and garish look and implement it in my style.
Tumblr media
From these inspirations, I looked at artists I felt contained bits and pieces of the idea I had. I focused only on artworks that had some parts I wanted to achieve. Paul Chambers’ Pancakes! (2018) showcased the kind of squishy, cartoony, plush-like look I wanted to emulate. Alex Poirier’s Ramen Restaurant (2022) gave me a great sense of composition, with the way the structure rested on a surface and had a great sense of scale vis-a-vis its background. Peter Tarka’s YOOX: Make a Wish (2017) and Alina Makarenko’s Cozy house (2022) both have an incredible sense of whimsy. It incorporated crazy ideas and fantastical elements that were fun to explore and look at. These are some of the references I enjoyed looking at the most and inspired the creation of my own work.

The combination of all the references I gathered became a fountain of inspiration for the sketches and experimentation I would later create. Through looking at different kinds of art in different mediums and materials, I was able to form a solid idea of what I wanted to do. This made planning my workflow much easier and faster. I plan to work hard in experimenting and practicing more so that the ideas I have in my brain will be implemented successfully on the programme itself. The end result will hopefully turn out as close to what I imagine in my mind as possible.

My WiiU emulator is just a Zelda machine at this point because I wanted to mod Breath of the Wild and Nintendo won't fucking sell me anything except Skyward Sword on Switch.
Skyward Sword.
why
I'm not even a huge Zelda fan (yet) and even I know that's the worst one that basically caused Breath of the Wild to happen.

I need to vent about Nintendo.
Stupid artificial scarcity for amiibo figures and cards. I hate that if I want to get something like that nowadays I have to buy it IMMEDIATELY otherwise it’s just going to cease to exist.  I still haven’t seen Ken or Pichu amiibo ever, and I’ve never seen camper amiibo cards in the wild, either.  There is no reason for these things to be 40+ dollars.  Nintendo doesn’t even benefit from these inflated prices.  WHY.
Just did round one of buying the 3DS eshop stuff I want, and seeing a whole catalog of stuff disappear makes me furious.  I get most of this stuff is available elsewhere, but frick me, I’m still mad.  Also, frick the Switch Online emulators, I should be able to buy these emulations without paying money for them monthly.  And you just know they’ll be gone the moment Nintendo stops supporting the Switch.
I’ve been getting anxious as crap playing Pokemon Violet.  This is not Nintendo’s fault, but I need to vent about it, too and this is as good a post as any.  Also, the Pokemon Company needs to chill out for ten seconds and let Game Freak take a break and breathe and not make Pokemon games on a timetable.  We’ll still remember the franchise if it takes a new game five or ten years to come out, it’s okay.
And finally, I can’t transfer my Spiky-eared Pichu out of Soulsilver.  It’s impossible.  The game won’t let you.  I normally don’t transfer event Pokemon that give specific cutscenes out, since I can’t replay them on original hardware, but if the DS games start to fail that’s a Pokemon that’ll just die on that cartridge.  Which is garbage.  I know it’s a collection of pixels but it’s a fancy collection of pixels, and it’s my collection of pixels, too.

In much the same way some people will opt to play Nintendo Switch games on a computer instead of the console if it saves a little cash, there exists some people willing to disguise malware as Switch emulation software if it makes them a little cash. That's right, if you see something claiming to be a Nintendo Switch emulator you should really think twice before installing it. Switch emulators aren't a real thing, and installing that software is a really great way to turn your computer into a malware farm. Scammers are taking advantage of a video floating around showing off Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild in 4K as evidence of Switch emulation, but that's not the case. What you see in that video is an unfinished version of the Wii U port for Breath of the Wild running on a PC.

Though the developers themselves recognize the 4K VR mod is far away from completion, this first test shows very promising. It is currently possible to do this yourself, but the game isn't 100% polished and may break in some areas. This new VR take on Breath of the Wild is still in early development by Bryan Tate, Sebastian Aedo and MelonSpeedRuns, and is set to run on the Cemu Wii U emulator rather than Yuzu which emulates the Nintendo Switch. More importantly, it's not the Switch version of the game which means other Switch games will not be ready to play anytime soon. If you're really eager to see what the Switch gaming experience is all about, your best bet really is going to be picking one up for yourself and trying it out.

Nintendo's latest console isn't just a portable gaming machine, it's a very powerful computer in an impressively small case. Nintendo switch emulator breath of the wild portable# The NVidia Tegra X1 processor in this tablet was built to run in laptops and cars, and its Maxwell GPU is not something easily emulated by just anything. It may not be particularly impressive when compared to traditional desktop processors and GPUs, but emulating hardware is not a 1:1 resource expense. The recommended system specs for the Wii U version of Breath of the Wild include 16GB of RAM, at least 3.5GHz quad core CPU, and at least a GTX 970 processor. Basically, emulating a Wii U game requires a computer that meets almost all of the same spec needed to run an Oculus Rift or HTC Vive. With the latest release of CEMU (1.15.2), Breath of the Wild seems to be able to run at a minimum of 60 FPS, and often much higher. While the Wii U and Switch are comparably equipped, the latter is using an ARM processor which is going to be somewhat more complicated to emulate. Now, it seems that those tweaks might not be quite as necessary. Breath of the Wild’s release alongside the Switch in March 2017 proved that this power gap did not matter.

It's not impossible for someone to eventually figure out how to emulate the Switch in a way that doesn't require a super powerful machine, but it's not coming anytime soon. When the Nintendo Switch first launched, some prospective owners were sceptical of the console’s ability to run games at high resolutions with stable frame rates. Perhaps my greatest gaming moment
So I can’t really afford a Switch right now and I’ll be damned if I’m buying a Wii U, but I did kind of want to play Breath of the Wild. So I finally got around to downloading the CEMU emulator. The framerate isn’t great, but the game is at least playable and it’s been fun so far.
What I did not realize was that there were shrines with puzzles that relied on you tilting the controller. The emulator does let you do that with some fiddling, but it reacts really weirdly. (And I suck at these puzzles already)
I’d already given up on one that required you to first tilt a platform so you could reach a chest and a get a key and then tilt it entirely differently to actually get to a locked door. And then I got to Myahm Agana shrine. The one with the maze you have tilt to guide a ball through it.
I had heard about flipping the maze, but the weird emulated tilting controls made that impossible. Instead I spent 30 minutes fighting with the controls. I even made it to the end of the maze, but couldn’t get the speed I needed to make the ball clear the gap between the tilting maze and the track it had to land on.
I got annoyed and spun the maze at random just as a new ball dropped down. Of course it got knocked away and I calmed down and decided to wait for the next one. And then no new ball came.
Confused, I looked around just in time to see the ball I’d knocked away calmly rolling into the hole to open the door. My annoyed flailing had knocked it over the fence and on to the track!
I died laughing.
