The quality control for the Nintendo Eshop is nonexistent

I find it interesting that during the wii era the wii was known to have a lot of shovelware on it and that built into the console having a bit of a negative reputation for it, while the switch now has massively greater quantities and much worse shovelware, such as these:

but they do nothing to the switch's reputation at all

I think there's a couple of things that lead to this difference, the first being that for a lot of people the wii had a negative reputation all along, for being too 'casual' and etc., so it was easy to point at the low effort games it spawned and laugh at it as a symptom of the whole thing (as opposed to it being just a symptom of the console being successful and thus drawing everyone and their mom to make games for it)

the other factor I think is that online game storefronts being filled to the brim with slop is par for the course now, i.e. the google play store, steam, etc., and so they are all defined by the good games they contain and the massive garbage pile underneath is largely ignored

That means all digital only games as well as DLC cannot be purchased (they can be downloaded after the shut down but we don’t know how long for). Also all games that have both physical and digital releases, will become physical only if not downloaded before.

All virtual console games also suffer the same fate so get to it!

the visual novel genre is about to get fuckin nuked by AI I've seen a handful of these pop up on the switch eshop recently and they are all from the same developer so far but they're a bad fuckin omen like. visual novels are going to be the easiest genre to just entirely AI generate and its gonna be Bad like visual novels are already pretty niche and not well respected so their reputation is about to tank even more goddamn
