ᴘᴀᴄᴛ (Part.1 || V Love Story)
This foundation to a short I posted a little while back (here). Enjoy the read!
2007
When you first met, he was wearing an awkwardly large button up shirt, a loosened tie hanging from his neck, dripping with sweat, and hair matted to his forehead. He had a red stain around the entirety of his mouth, likely from the Hawaiian Punch fountain that had been brought for the kids. "You can't play." He said with a deep furrow of his eyebrows, an annoyed expression on his face. "Why not?" You demanded in an equally annoyed tone. "Because I don't play with girls." "Why? Scared you'll lose?" You put your hands square on your hips as you size him up.
The boy couldn't have weighed more than 85 pounds soaking wet. Your flouncy pink dress was, up to this point, squeaky clean and stain-free, but you were desperately trying to change that as the wedding had been unbelievably long and torturous, and your mom hadn't let you bring your Nintendo DS. "Oh, please. Lose to a girl? Why don't you go with the other flower girls and their stupid pink dresses and leave us alone."
The tone with which he said 'flower girls' evidently did not sit well with you, because in two seconds flat, you had him in a headlock, and the boys he'd been playing with, along with the other surrounding kids, had all gathered to make a circle around the both of you. "Fight! Fight! Fight!" They all screamed in unison, snot-nosed boys and fellow flouncy-pink-dress girls, all pumping their fists in the air like a pack of blood-thirsty hounds. Who knew things could get so rough at weddings?
He somehow managed to get you on the ground but, as he raised his own fist to give you a good punch in the kisser, you managed to squirm out of his hold and flip him over onto his back. His arms flailed about violently, trying to land at least two good hits on you, but before he could, you reached down deep into the grass, digging your nails beneath the soil to pick up a chunk of dirt, "Prepare to die!" You screamed, shoving the clump into his face, some of it landing straight into his mouth while the rest spread across his face. Suddenly, you felt two hands grab you from your waist and swiftly lift you up off of the stupid little jerk. "Hey!" You screamed, though when you turned, you saw it was your dad who'd yanked you off of him. His face was exhausted and irritated.
You were forced to sit with your parents and little sister for the rest of the evening, your mom looking like she was on the verge of snapping your neck for embarrassing her. After a few hours, your parents were finally ready to leave. They lead you and your sister to the car, where you both strapped yourselves into the backseat. "I"ll be right back," Your mother said, closing the car door behind her. You watched as she walked over to a lady at the other end of the parking lot. "Daddy, can I have a bed time story when we get home?" Your sister asks. Your dad didn't look up, just nodded his head as he looked through the center console for the handkerchief he uses to clean his glasses. Your eyes stayed glued on your mom, who nodded her head and laughed in conversation. After exchanging what you assumed were her goodbyes, she turned around and started her way back to the car. After a few a seconds, you noticed the other woman still standing there, though this time, that boy appeared at her side- the one you fed grass to.
"What the heck," You muttered. "Y/n, don't say 'heck'," Your dad lazily corrected. Your mom threw the car door open and let herself fall into the passenger seat, "Ugh, these heals are killing me." "Mom, who was that?" "Who was who?" "The woman you were talking to." "Oh, she's that boy's mom. You know, the one you assaulted." "I did not assault him," You rolled your eyes. Even at the tender age of nine years old, you'd noticed your mom's knack for exaggeration and embellishment. "Mom, Daddy's gonna read me a story when we get home," Your sister said, happily swinging her feet as they weren't long enough to touch the ground yet because of her car seat. "That's great honey," Your mom sighed, "Y/n, when we get home I want you to go straight to bed. We have a big day tomorrow." "What? I thought I was gonna be able to stay up tonight," You whined. "Yeah, that was before you decided to go and attack people ." "I DID NOT ATTACK HIM!" You snapped, tears welling in your eyes. "Enough, Y/n." Her stern voice was enough to make you suction the tears back into their ducts. You knew better than to continue.
Mom opened the door and flipped on the lightswitch, stepping to the side to allow your dad to walk in ahead of her, your sister slung over his shoulder, knocked out cold- so much for a bed time story. "Straight to bed," Your mother repeated, closing the door behind you. You made sure your back was turned to her before you rolled your eyes, and you *quietly* stomped up the steps to the bathroom to start getting ready for bed. So unfair.
The next morning, your mom came up to your room to wake you up and call you down to breakfast, her voice eerily and sickeningly sweet. After the stunt you pulled yesterday, you were on high alert for any possible signs of punishment. You wanted to be prepared for when your mother would strike. You slowly made your way down the stairs and sat at the table, where your dad and little sister were already scarfing down their pancakes and bacon. Your mom was humming along as she continued cooking, her back to all of you. "Good morning, honey," Your dad said, looking slightly less exhausted then usual. "Good morning..." You said, on guard. "How'd you sleep?" Mom chimed in. "Good..." "Did you brush your teeth?" "Yes..." "Great," She turned around and served a plate for you, setting it down gently on the table, "Dig in." You stared down at the pancakes for a moment, and then looked back up at her. "Hurry up and finish your breakfast and then go get changed." "Why? Where are we going?" "We're gonna be going to the mall to shop for the belated wedding gift. We just have to make a quick pit stop first." "Oh," You said, surprised at the mild plans for the day. "Can I go too, mommy?" Your sister asked. She shook her head, "No, baby. This is something Y/n and I have to do together. You can stay home and hang out with Daddy." "But Daddy always falls asleep during Barbies," You sister crossed her arms and furrowed her brows- she took after your mom in the dramatics department. "I won't fall asleep this time, baby girl," Your dad assured her, though you all knew he totally would.
You threw on some jeans and your favorite Bobby Jack T-shirt, followed by your sneakers and a jacket. Your hair, at this stage in your life, was always kind of a mess- though it didn't look so bad, as you still had the hairstyle from the day before: six mini ponytails across the crown of your head, the rest of your hair hanging down with their little deflated curls. Good enough, you shrugged at your reflection. "Y/n! Come on!" Your mom called out. You quickly ran down the stairs and out the door to meet your mom at the car. "Ready?" She asked, inspecting her mirrors. "Yup," You sighed, looked out the window as she pulled out of the driveway. After a few minutes, you realized she took a different way than the one to go to the mall. "Where are we going?" You asked, turning to her. "Remember, we have a stop to make before we go get the gift." "Oh yeah. Where is it?" She didn't answer, just looked straight ahead. This interaction was giving you a suspicious and uneasy feeling...
Finally, you pulled up in front of a house you'd never seen before, and your mom shut off the car. "Come on," She said, her voice calm, yet stern. "Where are we?" You furrowed your brows, unbuckling your belt. Again, no answer. She walked around to the sidewalk, standing there as she waited for you to get down. You both walked up the porch steps of the strange home, and your mom knocked three times. You waited, and after only a moment or two, the front door opened. "Hello again! So good to see you," It was the woman from yesterday- the one your mom was talking to before you left. "Of course, we had to come and make things right, didn't we Y/n?" Your mom turned to look at you, and suddenly, things started clicking into place. Your mom's morning weirdness, the strange house you'd never been to before, the woman at the door- not to mention, the boy from yesterday was sitting behind her on the floor in front of, what you assumed, was a TV somewhere out of view.
Every cell in your body wanted to make you turn and run away, but your mom's grip was strong. "Please, come in," The woman said with a polite smile, motioning for you both to come in. The boy didn't turn around once, far too immersed in, what you finally saw, was a video game on the screen. "Taehyung, shut off your game," The woman said. The boy paused the game and then turned back behind him, about to say something- but when he saw your mom and then you, it was like he'd seen a ghost. He immediately jumped up off the floor, "What is she doing here?" "Taehyung, don't be rude," His mom snapped. "Oh, it's alright. He has good reason to be upset," Your mom said. Whose side was this woman on? "Tae, this is Ms.L/n- she brought her daughter...?" His mom turned to you, and you looked down, "Y/n." "Y/n, to come and talk about what happened yesterday." "I don't wanna talk to her," He said, crossing his arms and looking away. It reminded you of your sister this morning. "Taehyung, I'm sorry if you feel uncomfortable by having to have this conversation, but my daughter has something she wants to say." You furrow your brows and look up, pleading for her not to make you say it. It wouldn't be genuine anyway. You weren't sorry. He was being a jerk. He deserved to eat grass and even the sole of your shoe- "Y/n," Your mom hissed. You straightened out your back, swallowing hard. The boy looked at you, a serious expression on his face.
"I..." You could hear your heart pounding in your ears. This is humiliation. Pure, unadulterated humiliation, "I'm...sorry I beat you up." "You didn't beat me up," He protested, clearly embarrassed. You raised an eyebrow, "Did too." "Did not!" "Did too!" All over again, you were both riled up- though this time, your mother was able to grab your shoulder and pull you back, "Enough. Now, Y/n, I brought you here because you messed up and you need to make things right." "But mom, you should've seen him. He said-" "I don't care what he said. There is no excuse for you having put your hands on him. None at all." The boy smirked at you, and you could do nothing but stare at him, tears forming in your eyes again, though really it's because all you want to do is run across the rug and choke him out. "You better wipe that smirk off your face, Kim Taehyung," The other lady said, catching both you and him by surprise. "What?" "Don't think I don't know about how mean you were being to her. If I were in her shoes, I'd have done the same thing," She said, furrowing her brows at him. "But mom-" "But nothing. You owe her an apology as well."
Finally, it felt as though the playing field was level. Perhaps justice could be served after all. You cleared your throat and took a deep breath, "Taehyung, I'm sorry I hit you. I shouldn't have done that." There's a long pause, before he finally speaks, "I'm...sorry I didn't let you play..." The apologies lingered in the air for another few seconds before his mother finally spoke, "Alrighty then, now that that's settled, how about we have a little bit of coffee?" She said with a smile to your mother. "Why, that would be great." And with that, they left you and Taehyung in the living room, standing around awkwardly. You stared down at the rug for what felt like ages. This was worse than being grounded. You might've even preferred her spanking your butt like she used to when you were younger. "Have...you ever played Smack Down Raw?" You were surprised at his very normal question, and at the fact that he was the first to break the silence. You shook your head, "N-no I never have." "Do you want to? I have an extra controller..." You nodded timidly, walking over so that you were next to him. He grabbed the extra controller and handed it to you, connecting it to the PS2 console.
"I won't go hard on you since you've never played, okay?" "Okay- thanks," You said, glancing at him. His eyes were glued to the screen, his soft expression reminding you of how you were whenever your sister wanted to play with you; patient and thoughtful. After a little while, you were finally getting the hang of it, and soon, you were both violently smashing buttons, trying desperately to beat each other. "Oh!" He cheered, having beaten your character. "Aw man, you won," You said sheepishly. "Eh, don't worry. I've been playing for months- you just started. No big deal. Besides, you're already getting better." "Thanks," You said, leaning back, "though it'll be awhile before I'm a real match. I bet it's funner when you play with your other friends." "I don't..." He looked down briefly, eyes saddened, "I don't really have any friends." "Oh...but what about those kids at the wedding?" He shook his head, "They only let me play because I gave them my slice of cake and candy bag. They didn't really want me there..." Suddenly, you felt really bad. It all made sense- he was being such a jerk because people were being so mean to him. "You must have friends at school though, right?" "I used to, but my old best friend..." He trailed off, his eyes darting to a picture frame on the mantle, "he passed away last year." "Oh..." From where you sat, you could see it was a picture of two smiling boys; one you recognized as a slightly younger version of Taehyung, and the other you presumed to be the boy he was talking about. Rising in your chest, you felt a strong urge to comfort him but you were never really the hugging type, so you did the next best thing- "Wanna go catch rollie pollies outside?" He turned to you, his eyes a tiny bit glossy as a smile spread across his face, "Sure."
A/N: I've been sitting on this one for months; let me know what you think! Suggest stuff in the DM's <3

*braids your hair*
silent / action starters || accepting@benosuke
More often than not, the Caster would have scowled at someone that would dare disturb him whilst he played his video games. Especially if said person had decided to bother him by touching his hair. As a firm believer in one should keep their hands to themselves, he would be quick to remind them and swat at their hand, yet if one happened to ask, being respectful before all else, he might happened to grant them permission. Trying to keep his head still while focusing on his game, EI-Melloi ll couldn’t help to squint at the screen of his Nintendo DS. “Do you know why I’m quite against people messing with my hair while I’m playing a game?” he asked the Saber class, not even waiting for her to answer, “Because it’s distracting.” It was an obvious reply; though it was only part of the truth.
Eyelids fluttered, his head dipped forward ever so slightly before he caught himself, hoping his mishap hadn’t caused her to mess up in her work braiding his hair. The truth was having someone touch his hair was as relaxing as it could be annoying. Much like a cat, one only had to run their fingers through his hair, soothing the overly grumpy Caster. He would never admit it, preferring to keep such a weakness to himself. Pausing his game lest he wanted to make foolish mistakes, he straightened his posture and tried to be more alert. “I hope you’re enjoying yourself, Saber. Do not think this will become a habit either. I can’t have you braiding my hair for me.”

It’s funny you brought this up, because I was actually wondering about the likelihood of this lately!
In my opinion, it just makes sense to have ports or rereleases of the prequels, for multiple reasons. There are probably players who don’t own a DS or 3DS and have only gotten to play the ones that have ports. It would also spread more awareness and interest in the series, helping to keep it relevant until NWoS comes out. But with a few additions, it could be well worth the time for returning fans as well.
For instance, Last Specter’s Nintendo WFC features, like the weekly puzzles, and some instances in London Life. These are inaccessible for many (myself included) due to the service being discontinued years ago. A rerelease could have these automatically available. And speaking of London Life, it’s in dire need of a rerelease, whether included with one of LS or even released separately as its own game! In addition to the WFC issues, LL was not included in some regions, and everyone should get a chance to play it. Adding a few more save slots would be great as well (speaking as someone with siblings). If it were released on its own, I think London Life would hit it off with cozy gamers and draw more awareness to the series.
Miracle Mask could be rereleased to include the Japan-exclusive features (bonus cutscenes, events, etc) from MM Plus. I can’t be the only one dying to know what the events are…
For Azran Legacy, include Emmy’s letter from the Japanese AL guidebook as an unlockable bonus feature! The letter adds important info and closure about Emmy’s arc, and should be more accessible than having to either tear up your book or find the scans/fan translations online.
These are just a few thoughts I have as to why this would be a worthwhile move for Level-5 and players alike.
If Level5 releases hd ports of the prequel trilogy would you guys be interested if that happened?
It's hard to tell if Level5 will ever release hd ports of the prequel trilogy as it's been awhile since they released the last hd port which was Unwound Future/Lost Future. The prequels aren't as popular as the original trilogy entries but they're still beloved among the fandom.

So apparently the 3DS had exclusive...DSiWare...somehow xD this page lists them all and gives a rundown! Tons of super cool obscure dumb gaming moments in there like Advance Wars Days of Ruin not being released in Japan ....until 2013 as a Club Nintendo reward? Alright.
I find it super fascinating and it can reveal info like how Nintendoji was probably originally going to be a DS cartridge so they just turned it into DSiWare and released it during the 3DS's life as a bonus, cuz that's easier than porting it to 3DS natively I guess
The fact that you could order food from your seat on a 3DS at a Seattle Mariner's game is also just gaming perfection
Copied from the page:
Title: Heart Energy Poochi (ハートエナジープーチ) Region: Japan Release date: 31 July 2014 Title ID: 000480044B32364A This is the Japanese version of the Nintendo DS game Wappy Dog. It doesn't seem like the dog toy is required to play the game, however. Unlike the DS original, which was published by Activision, this version was self-published by MTO. It was downloadable from the 3DS eShop by redeeming the download code contained inside the box with the Heart Energy Poochi toy.
Title: Nintendo Fan Network Region: North America Release date: 4 April 2007 Title ID: 000480044B385545 This is an application that allowed people attending Seattle Mariners baseball games to view game stats, order food, and more. It is believed to have been available on DSi systems at some point, possibly pre-installed on specialized units, but no such version has been found as of this writing. It is currently available to download for free from certain North American region 3DS eShops (e.g. United States, Canada).
Title: Nintendoji (任天童子) Region: Japan Release date: 4 April 2013 Title ID: 000480044B394B4A This is an original dungeon-crawling role-playing game. It was available from the Japanese Club Nintendo rewards program to gold or platinum members.
Title: Zaidan Houjin Nihon Kanji Nouryoku Kentei Kyoukai Kounin: Kanken DS 3 Standard (財団法人日本漢字能力検定協会公認 漢検DS3 スタンダード) Region: Japan Release date: Unknown Title ID: 000480044B414E4A This is a (presumably stripped-down) DSiWare version of the Nintendo DS application Zaidan Houjin Nihon Kanji Nouryoku Kentei Kyoukai Kounin: Kanken DS 3 Deluxe. It is an application designed to help Japanese school students prepare for the Kanji Kentei. It currently has no page on the 3DS eShop back-end server (samurai) and may never have been made available to the public.
Title: Nintendo DS Kyoushitsu (ニンテンドーDS教室) Region: Japan Release date: Unknown Title ID: 000480044B50454A This is one of the applications that came pre-installed on the Nintendo DS Kyoushitsu (a.k.a. Nintendo DS Classroom/1.4_kst), a specialized Nintendo DSi LL unit designed for use in Japanese schools. It could be used by teachers in combination with the companion PC application to give quizzes to students on their DSis. It was originally meant to be distributed on physical DS cartridges before becoming a DSiWare application. This one actually was available on DSi on the Nintendo DS Kyoushitsu unit, but it is included in this list because it is only available on the 3DS's game distribution server (CDN) and not on the DSi's CDN. However, this application also has no samurai server page and may also have never actually been downloadable on 3DS.
Title: WarioWare: Touched! DL Regions: North America, Europe, Japan, Australia Release dates: 16 March 2016 (JP), 31 March 2016 (AU, EU, NA) Title IDs: 000480045A32414A (JP), 000480045A324150 (EU), 000480045A324154 (AU/NA) This is a DSiWare port of the Nintendo DS game WarioWare: Touched! (a.k.a. Sawaru Made in Wario/さわるメイドインワリオ (JP)). It was available on the My Nintendo rewards program for 1000 Platinum Points until 1 July 2016.
Title: Famicom Wars DS: Ushinawareta Hikari DL (ファミコンウォーズDS 失われた光) Region: Japan Release date: 30 October 2013 Title ID: 000480045A32454A This is the Japanese release of the Nintendo DS game Advance Wars: Days of Ruin (a.k.a. Advance Wars: Dark Conflict (EU)). It was originally meant to be released on DS cartridges before being cancelled after multiple delays. It was available from the Japanese Club Nintendo rewards program to platinum members.

Super Bomberman R sold me on the Nintendo Switch
I follow a blog that taught me a general rule: Don't buy a game console unless it has 5 games you're sure to buy and enjoy. Try them out in any way you can, but don't buy the console until you're sure of those five games you want to play on it.
I didn't have 5 games. But while following that blog there was a game that just fell onto that list today: Super Bomberman R
So my initial thought to the Bomberman Switch game was that I'd get bored of it fast. I couldn't remember liking Bomberman, and so it was one less Switch game I was willing to buy, which also made me lean more on not buying a Switch until much later.
Then I watched the Bomberman videos you linked. And it all came flooding back to me. Bomberman 64 was the second game I was ever introduced to on the N64. I didn't even own one back then, but I remembered the commercials and as they played with Saturday morning cartoons they were designed to be just as catchy and adventurous looking. Same with that Bomberman Hero game that later released.
Here's that first commercial, done to the style of the old Spider-man theme song. I didn't even know the Spider-man song back then, so Bomberman was stuck in my head for years.
When I finally did get an N64 some years later, one of the games that constantly got rented out from Blockbuster (remember those guys!) and eventually bought was Bomberman 64 2: The Second Attack. My little brother and I played that game to death. Don't get me wrong, we sucked at the game. It also was very Zelda like with lots of puzzles, secrets, RPGish ways to grind out strength, and combat at nearly every step. The bosses were hard. At least for our young middle school selves. I can't even remember if my brother and I ever beat the game.
Here's a review that touches on everything that made the game special to us.
Pros: The game had co-op. Sadly, it only had that "second player plays as an invulernable pet," but throughout the game you could make your partner stronger and stronger. The game was also very Megaman-like, in that there were eight bosses and beating each boss gave you a new weapon. Which also added a few Metroid elements, as you could go back to earlier levels and find things using the different abilities those bombs had. And the bosses you had to beat were crazy. They'd dash, they'd drop explosions in their wake, they'd kick your bombs back at you, surviving was just half the battle! We played the game to death, and eventually would be able to beat one boss and unlock more of the game to us. Figuring out how to get your pet to evolve was great; you could even get them to evolve to a dragon. It got to the point where I wanted to play 2P as much as I wanted to play Bomberman.
I don't think the game required a memory card, but because we would intermittedly rent it from Blockbuster, a year or two later we eventually bought one so we'd stop losing our progress! And progress was important because of the other major part of the game, the multiplayer! The multiplayer was much like it was in other Bomberman games, where you had the different grid reskins and different Bomberman colors you could use. But as you beat the story mode, you unlocked more types of levels, including levels that had multiple floors. You would unlock other game modes. You would even unlock the ability to use some of those cool bosses as your character, which was super cool even if mechanically you were just playing a different colored Bomberman. This game along with Smash Bros. were the primary reasons my brother and I eventually got a third and fourth controller for our N64, and would often invite our friends over to play with us. The game was so found that we eventually found another Bomberman game that was on the Playstation (the Playstation was a gift, the N64 we saved our allowances for almost a year to buy), and then that game was one of the reasons for us to get a multitap and four controllers for our Playstation!
The game was so fun that we actually looked for other Bomberman games once the N64 went out the back and was shot. The GCN had none (although it did have the Smash Bros) so we started looking at the portable games. There were a few here or there my brother tried out when we could rent them from Blockbuster, but they didn't have any easy multiplayer, so they never lasted that long for me. The DS and Wii changed this. The DS came out with a Bomerman game that allowed single-pack multiplayer, which was an instant buy. The Wii had a Bomberman game on the VC (I think it was the Turbographix version?) that allowed more than 4 players, as long as you also had GCN controllers to plug in. We scooped that up as well.
So why did I forget how much I used to enjoy Bomberman? Because, I sucked at it. One of the reasons Bomberman was extra fun was because, like Smash Bros, my brother and I could go into the multiplayer mode, play against CPUs, and play team battles. So for Bomberman, in both Story and Multiplayer we could do co-op. Every Bomberman game I played after the Second Attack would neither have a co-op story mode, nor much in the way of team battle options. Since I sucked, I didn't want to play FFA all that often, even though I could occasionally win or had the ability to practice more. For me, fun games, especially party games, are best as team games. You feel less bad when you lose with others, and you feel great when you manage to cooperate and win together. That's one of the reasons I love Overwatch.
The video that brought back all of the memories
So, let's recap on Bomberman R. It has a co-op story mode, which will do for now. It has 8-player multiplayer, super awesome. In my wildest dreams it would have single-pack play, but then again not everyone is going to have a Switch right away. Being able to play with a single Joycon, and being the right amount of complexity leads me to think I could even play this game with my girlfriend, and there's a good chance she might love it!
But even with just FFA this game looks fun
So now I want a Switch at launch. All the pre-orders have been sold out for weeks. We'll see if I can get one.
Games on my Switch to-buy list through Summer:
Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Super Bomberman R
Hasbeen Heroes
Splatoon 2 (w/ public testfire coming in March)
(maybe) Arms
(maybe) The Binding of Issac: Afterlife
(maybe) Puyo Puyo Tetris
Three maybes are good enough for right now. I'm leaning away from Mario Kart 8, but if enough friends get it I can see it ending up in my library. I know in the far future I'll be buying the No More Heroes game, spinoff or not, and Xenoblade 2 for sure. So I'm set.
There goes my wallet.

NDS woes
Managed to crash my Nintendo DS, which destroyed the SDHC card in my R4 cart. I think it'll be all right if I just format it, but I lost all my gamesaves after May or so. I should really back this fucker up more often. No biggie, though, since it was mostly some Korg DS-10 songs and maybe three levels in Final Fantasy IV.
