as i'm combing through comix, here's a list of potential plots/conflicts inspired by some of them that i'd def to touch upon! i also do have most of these muses on my punisher / npc sideblog if we want to revert back to 2014 rpc aka having actual arcs 🥺 but i would also not be opposed to anyone else wanting to npc them, etc!
ma gnucci - frank basically wiped out all of her bloodline besides her in tps 1x01 and i keep that canon for them. she's the matriach of one of the five families (in the marvel universe), with implied influence over the mayor and nypd. in her appearances, she and frank spend weeks embarking on a cat-and-mouse sort of game, as frank systemically kills everyone she loves and she pulls out all stops to find him, including hiring a hitman to torture him to death. v down to tweak all of this to suit our needs.
nicky cavella - after frank kills all of the kitchen irish, nicky, a cousin to finn o'cooley, travels from boston to new york to take over operations and seek revenge on the punisher (in up is down black is white, he excavates the bodies of frank's family and desecrates them to draw frank out into the open, but - down to tweak this too).
rosalie carbone - another mafia patriarch who maintains control of much of harlem - her origins as a character stems from the punisher. in the comics, he infiltrates her family by going undercover and pretending to be an up and coming enforcer looking to be made, but down to again, tweak that. (i simply love to pair frank against evil milfs, what can i say.)
barracuda - barracuda is a shadowy killer-for-hire and former green beret whose record and full name has been legally redacted. at this point in my frank's canon, frank has taken one of barracuda's eyes and barracuda almost did the same to him, and they've both managed to be the only person unable to kill the other. barracuda is extremely professional and one of the best hired killers in the entire world.

These are actually my favorite Punisher’s opponents. N.V.A. General Letrong Giap isn’t really a villain, but he was an enemy of Castle during Vietnam War. Then, comes General Nikolai Alexandrovich Zakharov, a.k.a. Man of Stone, one of the coldest men in the entire Punisher MAX run. He’s the opposite of Giap: he wants war, he’s involved in infant homicide and other atrocities. Barracuda is one of the main villains in Punisher MAX; he’s also capable of killing many, including pregnant women. He kidnapped Castle’s daughter, Sarah, and ended up dead in a brutal way. William Rawlins is a son of a bitch who dared to use his own wife (Kathryn) as a bait to save his drug cargo, and he also did a bunch of atrocities. And, Nicky Cavella, Rawlins’ lover. He killed his own family when he was still a kid. He’s obsessed with the Punisher, and he wants to be the one to kill him.
#the only one who's alive here is giap and thank god for that#bc he's actually the only good soul here#the rest were killed by castle#;; Nicky Cavella#;; Barracuda#;; Letrong Giap#;; Nikolai Alexandrovich Zakharov#;; William Rawlins

tempt my trouble
Summary:
Nicky Cavella got to where he was as the current head of the Mafia by doing pretty much the opposite of making friends. Killing, kidnapping, bribing a woman who didn't love him into being his wife, to begin with. He also disrespected Frank Castle's family and threatened Karen Page, which very reasonably put The Punisher's target on his back.
Frank would've made him suffer, if Darcy Lewis Cavella didn't beat him to the punch.

NOLAN CONNOLLY, a.k.a. THE CARDINAL.
the illegitimate son of the former diocesan archbishop of new york, nolan was raised in queens by his maternal grandparents, poor irish catholic immigrants, and kept in the dark about his parentage until his mother, during one of her rare visits, finally being unable to bear keeping it a secret and telling her son the truth. nolan, barely ten at the time, developed a grudge against his biological father for ruining his mother’s life.
nolan first began to get involved with the kitchen irish at fifteen, helping a few older “friends” stick up a bodega turning into running drugs and guns turning into carrying out regular small robberies and collecting on behalf of roscoe “the fixer” sweeney. he rediscovered “faith” through violence and the situational catholicism of his peers, feeling closer to god with a gun in his hand than he had since he was a child.
he committed his first murder for the irish at seventeen, and leading members quickly took note of his skill, shifting him away from mere debt collecting and busy work. at nineteen, fate coincided that his biological father, who had since been made a cardinal, crossed the wrong people in his own back alley dealings with gambling and prostitution, and nolan was given the opportunity to prove himself and get his revenge in one fell swoop.
the hit went perfectly, and nolan quickly rose in rank and status. his assassinating his own father quickly became something of a legend, and over the years he began to go by the dead man’s old title in honor of his “achievement” (and as one last bit of spite.)
when he became one of the many members of the kitchen irish forced to go underground after samuel silke’s arrest and death, the legend—and his alias—became the only word of him that was still spoken, his true identity carefully kept out of the public record. he quietly moved his mother to boston and cared for her for years on the money he’d amassed, until her death shortly after the events of daredevil season 2/the punisher season 1.
with nothing left to tie him to boston, nicky cavella on a clear path to take over what remained of the decimated kitchen irish and get revenge on the man who’d killed so many of their brethren, and more importantly, many of the old school gangsters who had witnessed young nolan’s early rise to prominence coming out of retirement at word of the fixer himself being up for parole, a few words to the right people are enough to bring the cardinal back home to new york city—
—and to get him very interested in the so-called devil who watches over the kitchen, especially when rumors begin to spread that the vigilante might have a connection to another of sweeney’s former enforcers…
#rogues gallery | the cardinal.#ask me to tag /#i'm not sure how cohesive this is but this is m*rvel so how cohesive does it really NEED to be#arc | sins of the father.#this is going into a Main Arc while my other defined arc is an AU#i need to do a writeup other than this but#idk he's kind of a riff on john pilgrim but. not done. badly#hopefully

I can’t believe how disappointed am in the netflix Punisher series, I was so excited for it because he was the best part of daredevil season 2 but it’s just so so so so boring, he took off his skull in the first episode and I’m on episode 10 and he still hasn't put it back on, nothing is happening, the story is so convoluted and every action scene is just the same 8 guys in tactical gear shooting at each other in a rotation of 3 different warehouses
why isn’t he wearing his skull, why are they calling microchip micro, stop fucking cutting to the soldier or karen or micro’s awful family or agent orange fucking around stop padding this 13 hour slog fest, and why give us a who-gives-a-shit villain like agent orange why didn’t we get Bullseye or Jigsaw, or Ma Gnucci, or Nicky Cavella, or Barracuda or any number of interesting Punisher villains
I’m so tired of these netflix shows that so desperately don’t want to be about comic book heroes, Punisher once nuked the moon, calls his car the “battle van”, shot wolverine’s dick off and beat a guy to death using another guy’s head, you just can’t play punisher straight and this is definitely proof of it

I would love love love to see Jigsaw. Maybe Nicky Cavella would be a good one. I would also really like to see Bullseye in either Punisher or Daredevil, or both! I'm excited to see what they do with the series 🙌

@chaoswillneverend
My apologies for not reblogging directly from you, but this post you made is pretty long and image heavy, and I’d rather not stretch people’s dashes.
I wasn’t going to do this, because I don’t enjoy fandom discourse. It’s exhausting-- but it’s REALLY irritating me the suggestion that I haven’t done my character work. I don’t want to have an argument, I don’t want to have a debate, but I do not love going into the Frank tag and having someone be like ‘lmao read more comics you guys have no idea what you’re talking about you haven’t done any research’.
I will agree that with the advent of the Netflix series, yeah, people jumped right into shipping. Of course they did-- shipping is huge in any fandom. Do I think it’s out of character and silly when people turn Frank into a big romantic shmush and turn Karen into a pure, delicate little lamb that Frank has to protect? Abso-fucking-lutely. In any fandom, characters will be portrayed in an fanciful light by some people, you can’t change it, and it isn’t really hurting anyone. Karen’s a stone cold killer who will lie and hustle her way to the truth if it kills her, who keeps secrets from her friends and whose only regret is that she had to kill someone at all. Frank is a tortured, grieving man who is addicted to violence and war, and all those qualities were things that existed and then were brought to the forefront when his family died. But my main issue is the idea that Punisher fans who think Frank loved war more than his family are somehow not as well-read as fans who think the opposite.
I’ve never been much for homework, but character examination and exploration is what I do, so sorry if I’m a little irritated at the suggestion that I ain’t done it.
Here’s my issue. You cite Garth Ennis as your major point of reference, but the only Ennis stuff you talk about in that post, is Born. Everything else is from the Jason Aaron run.
So I’m going to breeze past Aaron’s run, because you can’t tell us Ennis is the man who made Frank Castle as he is known today, and then throw Jason Aaron’s stuff at us. The two aren’t comparable, because Ennis makes it clear in EVERY SINGLE ARC of Punisher MAX that Frank is still affected by the loss of his family. Who loved his family. Aaron tells us the exact opposite.
‘Whenever I get careless, that yearning in her eyes creeps up and brings me to my knees.’
Those are the first pages of Ennis’ Punisher MAX run. He visits their graves and it eats at him. It gnaws at him. And not a few pages later...
He’s at peace. Or, not even real peace, is it? It’s SOMETHING like peace. I won’t deny he’s in love with war, that’s true. He wouldn’t have gone back to Vietnam so many times if he didn’t love war. But I will not accept that he loved it more than his family, not when Ennis portrays Frank as being a war addict. He kills because he can’t forgive. He was never able to forgive, even before they died. He can’t forgive because Frank has always had the capacity for great hatred, but it wasn’t all he was, it wasn’t his core, and with the loss of his family, all that’s left is the hate.
This is ISSUE ONE!
So how about Kitchen Irish, is there anything in there that tells us Frank is still FUBAR over his family?
Yeah, the entire finale is Ennis saying ‘Frank Castle has been at war for 30 years and it hasn’t made him feel any different, he’s still a miserable bastard with nothing that he loves in his life except for killing, because the things he loved are dead.’
How aboouuuut Mother Russia- a personal favorite.
It’s his daughter’s memory that brings him back to his feet. It’s little Lisa Castle dying on the green where her daddy couldn’t help her that pulls him up and gives him the strength to fuck that guy up for hurting Galina.
And he loved War more than them?
Let’s not even talk about how Up is Down, Black is White has a huge chunk of it dedicated to Frank not being able to think clearly because he’s so furious about Nicky Cavella defiling his family’s grave, let’s not talk about how his entire relationship with Kathryn O’Brien is about two people forging an emotional connection based on mutual respect, consent, empathy, and shared experiences. (Actually, let’s talk about how O’Brien is a beautiful woman, a strong woman, someone who, if she’d survived, would likely have cemented herself in a place in Frank’s life and he would have been totally on board with it. Had she lived, Frank likely would have had someone to finally team up with and have a bond with that wouldn’t fuck him over.)
Let’s not talk about how his arc with O’Brien ends in Long Cold Dark, which is literally an arc about Frank still having powerful paternal feelings, feelings that spur him to protect, care for, and fear for the wellbeing of a child. How he admits he isn’t sure if he actually liked O’Brien or if he was kidding himself. Which is basically all the explanation you need for Ennis to be saying ‘Look, look Frank is still human. He’s still a man who experiences life when he forgets to stay away from people who work their way inside his walls.’
I don’t mean to alarm anyone.
But it's starting to look like Frank Castle has feelings.
You claim that Ennis is the definitive, the man who made Punisher comics popular again, but you keep giving us Jason Aaron, when Ennis himself directly contradicts Aaron’s story that Frank was going to leave his family.
He would have never left them. He loved them.
And yes, Born is all about Frank admitting that he has an attraction to violence, that it’s a part of him, that he feels alive in it-- but that doesn’t mean he’s excited about the prospect of ditching his loved ones in favor of a lifetime of war. There’s an interview with Ennis where he says he thinks it’s Frank just admitting to himself what exists inside him, and that being honest about his aptitude for violence is what allows him to go home to his family. And you know, not for nothing? This doesn’t look like a man anticipating his family’s death to me. It looks like a man who has no idea what’s coming next. Who might even be a little afraid.
Jason Aaron is the only Punisher writer to tell the world Frank wanted to get away from his family. He’s the ONLY one that treats Frank like he didn’t love them.
Ennis says Frank loved them in every single arc. In one way or another, he makes sure we know where Frank stands.
Have I done my homework? Did I get an A? Is your opinion maybe not the only valid one?
You are not the gatekeeper of the Punisher comics. Don’t treat other fans like they’re idiots just because they don’t share your opinions.
#;;ooc#;;meta#frank castle#i'm either gonna regret posting this or be glad i did but#i really really don't like being treated like I haven't done my research into a character
