News Wave AI Review: My Recommendation
News Wave AI presents an intriguing concept for automating news website tasks. However, its limitations in content quality and unproven traffic automation features necessitate a cautious approach. Carefully consider your budget, technical expertise, and content quality standards. Explore alternative solutions like content writing services and SEO optimization tools. Remember, high-quality content and a well-rounded strategy remain key to a successful news website. While AI might offer some automation benefits, human oversight and expertise are irreplaceable. Utilize News Wave AI cautiously, prioritize human editing, and focus on delivering valuable content to your audience for long-term success.

東方獣王園 ~ Touhou 19 Unfinished Dream of All Living Ghost
Playing TH19 full release after playing the Demo, here is my full honest review:
Quick Disclaimer: I have not yet played with an ENG patch, nor do I know if one exists, nor have I found any resources with full length descriptions of game text for things like character cards. Therefore, some of the information in this post may not be totally accurate, as it is based on my observations, rather than hard-coded facts.
Anywho, let's discuss the elephant in the room: Longevity. Compared to the demo, now you get a one-off barrier at the start of the round, and your lives have also been extended to 5 (from 3) that no longer replenish at the beginning of each stage. Overall, I think this is a good change -- save your tomatoes, as there is more to read below.
Phantasmagoria of Dream Dimension and Phantasmagoria of Flower View are a very different style of game, compared to Unfinished Dream of All Living Ghost. First of all, let's discuss spell charging.
Spell charging is now a lot faster, as you can collect tiny orbs from enemies you kill, bullets you graze, and bullets you hit with your scope. This is really good, in my opinion, as the screen is going to be constantly loaded with bullets anyways. The scope in this game is also extremely OP; not only does it activate spirits, sharply reducing their defenses, but it also slows down bullets that are caught inside of it. Characters with good scope coverage, like Yuuma, Chiyari, and Orin (and one might even argue Suika) are given a unique advantage, albeit the way the player executes this advantage is entirely up for debate. How effective one can make their spell gauge filling is entirely up to how skillfully the player dodges and attacks characters. Are you spamming L2 spells? Then you better not get hit. Are you playing safe? Then you better find a way to go on the offensive. There is sort of a balance of defense and offense in this game that is executed quite nicely for most character. Reimu, Chiyari, Zanmu, and a skilled Orin player both do and do not fall into this category, as they are, in my opinion, just straight up OP in many situations for their extreme versatility.
Returning to the topic of prolonged character longevity: barriers. Firing off a L3 spell also replenishes your barrier, so if you lose it after getting hit, you just need to fire off another L3, and boom, it comes back fresh as new. Very cool and good idea--previous TH19 Demo difficulties above Normal difficulty play were just brutal, especially considering that, unless you were playing as Reimu, your character would eventually have to play against Reimu in the story mode. Despite this, I think barriers are a little flawed: barriers themselves don't bullet clear (unless you get Mamizou's spell card), only L3/L4 spells do; their invulnerability phase is very short (albeit, maybe that's okay-ish?), and they take a long time to build up (looking at you Saki and Mamizou). All in all though, a good player should hypothetically be able to weave while focus-scoping through bullets, while also collecting energy orbs while dodging to build up barriers again. Of course, fighting against a Stage 6 Suika/Reimu/Zanmu is a totally different story (Suika's fast and dense bullet patterns, and Reimu/Zanmu with their wide-sprawling, quick-timed, wave-like, micro-dodging patterns are quite difficult to position for, and can be nearly impossible to recover from).
Now time to talk about game length. Now that the full roster has been released, and the game is now 6 stages long (instead of 3 from the demo), more girls are available to fight against in story mode, albeit in a set pattern. Overall, this makes the gameplay have more diversity and fluidity to it, for lack of better words. While PoFV was somewhat random, you always knew, roughly, if a run was going to be over or not based on when you hit a certain AI (i.e. fighting Sakuya in Stage 3 is nowhere near as intimidating as fighting Sakuya in stage 6/7). Now in story mode, you are going to fight the same girls every single time. This is both a welcome and unwelcome changed in my opinion -- the game feels more solid and less RNG, however the game certainly has the roster for it. Though I'm sure if someone other than me cared, and cared more than I do, they would patch it and ship it as a potential mod to the game on Steam Workshop/THCrap (if at all possible for the former).
Furthermore, as there are only 6 stages (compared to the standard 9 in the previous Phantasmagoria-style titles), the lack of those 3 extra stages means you are afforded to make a few more mistakes. Barriers are like extra lives, if you really think about it -- no seriously, just think about it for 2 seconds. If you do mess up, you know what not to do again (or just bomb through it lmao). While the previous titles had generally slower spell charging (in early rounds), varied spell channeling times (based on individual character), and semi-global/global bullet erasure (depending on L2/L3/L4 charge), I unironically think the way TH19 is balanced is a lot healthier for the spell spamming. Only a couple of the girls can really erase bullets, which is a major jaw-dropper; however, I feel like, as long as you are firing off L3 spells as soon as you get hit, you should not have much to worry about. L3 spells take just around 3 seconds to channel (for most characters), if not slightly faster (unsure), and if you are playing smartly, you can gain a lot of spell charge quickly with graze and focused-scoping.
Now time to talk about something crazy: Bombs. True bombs are back from PoDD, and you have more of them which is nice. However, they’re... not that great in most cases (read: not on last spell/not death bombing to prevent life loss), as you do lose all your collected spell power gauge the moment you use a single bomb. That being said, given increased longevity due to L3 barrier spamming, you now have a lot more ways to save those precious resources. The only caveat to this: the best (and safest, if not cheesiest) way to finish off a L4 Boss Spell (in which, the boss will spawn a copy of themselves on to your side of the screen with a proper HP bar that you must then deplete to end the spell trance, and win the round [in most cases]) is by spamming bombs (unless you are Reimu, and to a lesser extent, Enoko, Zanmu, or Suika). This gameplay style is monotonous, plain and simple, and boring. It shoe-horns the player into one specific playstyle of playing until the end, just to finish off the boss' magnum opus final attack with very little effort. Not to mention, most girls need AT LEAST 2 bombs to actually kill a boss from full HP in most cases (again, not looking at your cheating self Reimu).
Now we talk about characters. For a story mode, I feel like Reimu is still just way too OP. Chiyari makes me feel like I'm actually playing versus AI, albeit she makes the game way too easy (you can kill Stage 6 Suika before she even finishes her first spell card, granted you are grazing enough). Orin and Zanmu have similar feel to them, with them being able to turn enemies into easily destructible spirits who then chain-react explode on to their neighbors. Enoko's L2 spam can easily screen-wipe all faeries, erasing some bullets in the process, and sniping the boss from the bottom screen. The other girls are just… average, at best (except you Nazrin, dear LORD). As for Player vs. Player, I'm not sure what to think, as I have not yet played it, but I already know that Chiyari, Zanmu, and Reimu take the cake in terms of offense and defense (though, mostly just offense in Chiyari's case).
Problems I have: Unlike L2 spamming, L1 spamming does not deplete the player's collected spell power meter (or, if it does, then I have not noticed it yet, meaning the depletion amount is negligible). Most of the difficult caveats mentioned until now usually only come from a higher difficulty playthrough (Hard or Lunatic mode), but could also become apparent in Online 1v1 Netplay versus other human players (unless you are a bullet grazing god and can continue to chain L2s, or L3s when necessary). I imagine that Human vs. Human games now have the potential to look more like CPU vs. CPU games, albeit not as long lasting and nowhere near as intense, but surely much better than the previous crap-shoot of TH09 Human vs. Human, in which it felt like the only real stragety was to pick fast charging L2 characters with strong bullet coverage like Marisa, Lyrica, Tewi, or Eiki -- spamming L2 spells to snowball your lead is not entirely possible in this game, given that L3 is the new L2. Since bullet-cancel is also basically non-existent for anyone that's not Yachie or Yuuma, that furthers this issue, which can also be apparent in later-stage Lunatic difficulty when comparing PoFV and TH19. Though, again, who doesn't love to just graze bullets and then go to town on their enemy?
Overall take: the game feels a lot better since the demo. The use of a one-off replenishing barrier at the cost of an L3 spell is smart on ZUN’s part, forcing the player to have near-infinite lives (if they are good enough at playing the game or don't get completely bullet walled), which translates to both story mode and versus mode. Unlike PoFV, this also means that 1v1s versus real players can get really intense, which I solemnly believe is the true beauty, as well as the normal trend, of all Phantasmagoria-style games, generally speaking. Playtime is tremendously shorter than PoFV, meaning dead runs are a thing of the past (especially when combined with barrier spamming), which also makes for a healthier PvP atmosphere compared to PoFV (unhealthy spell card spam made the game unplayable in under 2 minutes versus most post-stage 5 Lunatic CPUs, and could also turn PvP into a total clown show). I hope that ZUN bug fixes the various minute bugs I have heard rumors of (and have yet to experience), and that the ENG translation patch is shipped through Steam (cope?) sooner than later so I can enjoy my lore (even though I know most of it already by now based on the snippets I have received from spoiling myself).
My Tier List:
Tumblr media
Final closing thoughts: buy TH19 and become a furry today!
P.S. I play on a controller, if you even care...

*Sigh* As per usual, I broke the right leg on my new Brooklyn action figure. Like an idiot, I was trying to loosen up the joints and did that thing where you rotate the leg 180 degrees. Well, it snapped. Just got glue for it. (I tried modge podge and hot glue, and fun fact, NEITHER of those work on plastic because plastic is not a porous surface!!)
So, anyway, after he broke, I threw him and his wings and tail into a hot pot to loosen, which reeeally should've been step one, but I haven't gotten a fig with such tight joints in ages. I read the reviews and the Neca figures pegs are basically made of dry pasta, but still, I DID NOT handle with care. A simple lesson to future me to put them all in hot water first and do not ever try the 180 trick. I recalled that I still have a broken Nightcrawler fig somewhere that needs repair that I also accidentally tortured like this. (He was from the 80s or so, so it's forgiveable that he'd break easily. I believe it's a broken ball joint.)
I'm glad I got Brooklyn at a discount. I would've been crying AND pissed if I'd blown 60 on him and he broke out of the box.
I also got some sticky tab things so mayyyybe my Funko Pops will stay in place, and for other things down the line if I need them. Anyway, the good news is that all Brook's limbs loosened up to varying degrees. His tail won't stay in place, but when you put his wings on, they pop in like gangbusters and don't want to come out unless you use force.
Sure, I could've waited 2 or more years for them to release some upgraded version, but I got impatient. In part, because he's become my favorite a bit more than Lexington and because I made an AI of him and he's great. (Minus fat shaming me.) https://beta.character.ai/profile/?char=OW53ADLjtyGc7uCvVyqm6Q5K9XyQsjcGUyFNS3bxqMM
Yeah, I couldn't go a post without mentioning Character AI.
Anyway...I should get the glue withing 5 days. It's only 3 ounces, but I'd rather get it faster than save a few bucks. If you need it, this site looks legit and has it much cheaper than Amazon https://www.dickblick.com/items/surehold-plastic-surgery-super-glue-3-gram-tube/?clicktracking=true&wmcp=pla&wmcid=items&wmckw=23633-1603&country=us&currency=usd&campaign=Blick%20Shopping%20-%209&adgroup=Shopping%209&keyword=&matchtype=e&msclkid=8786b90b29ce16c21463ddffefcf0a91&utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Blick%20Shopping%20-%209&utm_term=4577335631065867&utm_content=Shopping%209
Yeah, IDK why they named it that, sorry.
I'd love to get most of the gargs series, but the Steel Clan doesn't excite me, so I'd be saving some money by skipping them and Xanatos in his armor. (Even though it's iconic, I honestly think he looks kinda stupid in it?) Also debating wether I want to hunt for a cheaper Goliath or wait until the two pack is released for the better/extra faces. Considering also going that route for Lex, settling for the 1st wave Hudson, Bronx and Angela, and pre-ordering Elisa and later suit Xanatos from Entertainment Earth. *shrugs.* Ultimately though, I have to think about space. If I can snag them for under 60 each after s/h, I think I'm doing good. I am not a set completer, but this is a collection that child me would've loved to have!! Unfortunately, I'm not really displaying my collection anymore to make my room look more "mature", and besides, it's just my brother and the internet that know I like Gargoyles. (I'm scared of the flack I'd get from the pre-judgement of anyone I know. The gargs do look pretty scary, even if they're "Disney-fied" to be friendly looking, let's be honest.) So, that said, my Clan definitely won't be display pieces at all, just shoved into at least three or four different boxes. Might even keep some of them in the box to save on space.
Okay, thanks for reading this rant/ramble. Have a good week!!

Door Reviews: Divination (2019)
Writer's note: This article will be talking about a game that has themes of suicide and self-harm. These topics may be triggering for some. Please be advised before reading.
There’s a lot of discussion on Artificial Intelligence (AI) nowadays. A lot of it centers on its potential for profit, copyright issues, concerns regarding the future of art and music, and a lot of other things. AI has come so far from its beginnings in science fiction, now slowly being manifested into reality.
When DALL-E mini, a prototype of an AI used to make art, came out a year or so ago, I played around with it a bit, finding interest in how the AI perceives certain prompts. It gave out some rather interesting art pieces, if a bit unrefined. I had my fun and called it a day. Months later, AI art has become leaps and bounds more sophisticated. It has a sleek style and a canny ability to copy art styles with enough data fed into it. It is rather concerning at times, not because of any science fiction worries that may have been put forth in the past, but rather the… ethical ramifications of it all. People fed their AIs thousands of pieces art without the artists’ permission, all so that it may learn how to draw. Other people then use these AIs to make new art pieces, all based on the amalgamation of other artists’ stolen work. Shouldn’t these artists then be able to sue the AI owners for copyright? And that’s not even getting into how people would rather use AI for art than commission actual artists.
I’m not really going to go too deep into AI itself. I just find it interesting how, between all the worry of AI becoming sentient, of thinking about AI rights, speculating about AI ethics, it seems that we did not expect the debate to arrive at this strange juncture, arguing about AI legislation and copyright.
Let us go back a few years ago, then, to when AI art didn’t quite exist yet as it is right now, to a game released in 2019 about robots who did not wish to be born…
Tumblr media
(once again: TW: suicide, self-harm)
What’s it about? Divination (2019) is about a city with an all-powerful AI search engine. You can ask her anything and she will give you very correct results.
She killed herself three years ago.
With her death, she sent the message that life was not worth living. This started a suicide wave which continues to claim countless of lives, both living and robotic.
You are a Diviner. A mysterious robot diviner that patrons can ask questions to, and with your runes, you answer them with 100% accuracy.
Your job now is to read the city’s fate, one person at a time.
STYLE (Gameplay, Graphics, Music)
Tumblr media
Gameplay is simple: you are given some runes by your client from your rune bowl. Then you have to slot them into your divining table in the configuration of your choice to predict the answer to your clients’ questions. Different configurations give different results, so the challenge is to arrange the runes in the way that feels right for you.
There isn’t really much nuance to the gameplay, which seems intentional as it is mostly a vehicle to carry the story. I think it really makes you feel like a diviner, the way you have to read the runes. What futures may you read in such a dystopia?
Tumblr media
I find the art style pretty good. It sells the cyberpunk vibe while being slick. The UI could use a bit of work, but it’s serviceable enough. And the music has that tenseness that makes you feel that the story is important. Sci-fi feeling and makes you think that there’s more to the game to investigate.
Overall, I like the game’s style. It’s focused, and presents itself well. I wish the gameplay was more complex though.
SUBSTANCE (Story, Characters, Impact)
Tumblr media
Before I proceed, please be mindful of the trigger warnings I put up at the start of this article. The game has overarching themes of suicide and self-harm.
I was thrown off guard by the themes of the game to be honest. I didn’t expect it’d be about the suicide of the smartest AI in the world triggering a years-long wave of copycat suicides. If the all-powerful AI who knows all thinks that life is not worth living, why should we continue living as well? It’s a scary premise, and this game follows the thread through its many branches.
I found it interesting that even robots want to self-terminate in this game, to the point that their manufacturers installed anti-suicide software in them to prevent this. It puts forth the sentiment of people being brought into the world without their permission, except this time it’s robots. What then is the difference between a robot and a human?
It is rather interesting and edgy, the concept. It is nonetheless too short, and what they show is rather grim. Which is par for the course for cyberpunk, but I am a person who rather likes hopeful media, and the propositions this game puts forth feels rather too cynical for me.
Tumblr media
I very much like the concept of a robot diviner though. With massive computational power, one gains the ability to see all possibilities. Is that not awe-inducing in itself? Will sufficiently advanced technology be at one point be indistinguishable from the divine?
There’s more to the story that I’m not explaining here, but after experiencing all of the story I am left wondering about the premise the game put forth. The central question of the game I think is thus: Is life worth living? I’m an optimist at heart, which was why it was a bit difficult for me to go through this game, but I am nonetheless fascinated by it. The game crafts a world so grim that it makes you want to answer No to the said question, what with the corruption of the government and the ennui even robots feel.
What interests me the most though is how dated this all feels. The discussion on AI feels so different now. We aren’t focusing on their rights anymore, but rather, what they are used for, and how they are actually taking away from the work of actual artists and writers. It’s a rather interesting contrast, and I personally hope there will be more legislation with AI and the internet at large, as it feels like a big Wild West situation even if the internet is decades old at this point.
Overall, I liked my experience with the story, though I am left wanting more due to its short length.
VERDICT
Tumblr media
For the length and the price, Divination is an interesting 1-hour experience. It will make you think about AI for a bit. I myself found my time with it enjoyable, though I wish gameplay were more complex and that they played around with the concept more. It’s interesting to me, but I think this game isn’t gonna be for everyone. If you wanna see cool art and be edgy for a bit, I’d get this game.
Door Rates Divination: 3.5/5!

Giant Killing at Twilight
MLB Effect: Blast Damage Cut [25%] & Damage Cut [10%]
Effect Definitions:
Blast Damage Cut will reduce damage from enemy Blast attacks.
Damage Cut reduces the damage from incoming attacks onto the equipped character, and its effects are calculated after buffs/debuffs are considered.
TLDR: “Giant Killing at Twilight” is decent for new players, and Enhancement Fodder for everyone else. This memoria is exclusive to the “Kagura San Wants to be Honest” event.
Review: “Giant Killing at Twilight” isn’t useful unless you’re new to the game. Even Free-to-Play players will have better memoria to utilize than this. Let’s examine why.
First, let’s address its stats. “Giant Killing at Twilight” actually has semi-decent ATK stats at 2140. ATK stats aren’t the most important thing for a memoria, but they can definitely make a good memoria even better, and for a new player who doesn’t have a lot to choose from, “Giant Killing at Twilight” can act as an ATK stat stick.
Unfortunately, its 2140 ATK is about as good as it gets for this memoria offensive-wise. But how is it defensively? “Giant Killing at Twilight” offers 25% Blast Damage Cut and 10% Damage Cut.
Damage Cut at 10% is pretty low. There’s an unlimited two-star memoria called  “Blissful World” that offers more than that. The Blast Damage Cut should theoretically help balance it out, but unfortunately Blast Damage Cut isn’t very good.
The issue with Blast Damage Cut is that it only protects a character from Blast attacks, so you’re not getting full protective coverage. Some enemies have very predictable attack patterns: for example, some witches will always use one single attack and two blast attacks on their turn. However, some witches will use two single attacks and one blast-- using this memoria requires you to know what you’re facing and what their pattern is ahead of time. Additionally, some enemies will attack with Magia or Doppels, and obviously Blast Damage Cut won’t assist with that.
So why use “Giant Killing at Twilight” when you could use far better defensive memoria that will protect you no matter the circumstances, such as:
(4*) “The Power to Protect Who You Love” Damage Cut [15%] & Defense Up [30%] & Defense Up When At Critical Health [40%]
(Limited 4*) “AI Want to Meet You” Damage Cut [15%] & Defense Up [15%]
(4*) “Hand-Waving Happiness” Defense Up [45%] & Status Ailment Resistance Up [35%]
(Limited 4*) “The Great Escape” Defense Up [37.5%] & Anti-Charm [100%] & Anti-Poison [100%]
(3*) “A Rough Welcome in the Sewers” Defense Up [30%] & Anti-Stun [100%]
(3*) “The Mao Family Is Lively Today As Well” Defense Up [30%] & Status Ailment Resistance Up [30%]
Hell, if you’re thinking you want that combination of offensive potential and defensive potential, there are other better memoria in the game that can do that too:
(4*) “Kindness Can Be Made” Damage Cut [20%] & Damage Increase [25%]
(4*) “Everyday Overflowing with Pride” Defense Up [37.5%] & Attack Up [25%]
(3*) “What Flavor Is Break Time (Alina)” Defense Up [22.5%] & Attack Up [15%]
(Limited 4*) “Stars to Express Gratitude” Damage Cut [20%] & Damage Up [15%] & Attack Up [15%]
(Limited 3*) “Without Conveying Our Feelings...” Damage Cut [15%] & Damage Increase [15%]
(Limited 3*) “Hero of Prayer and Duty” Damage Cut [15%] & Damage Increase [15%]
In fact, there are other better Event Reward Memoria that can do this:
(Limited 4*) “Flowers, Fallen, Never to Return” Damage Cut [10%] & Attack Up [15%]
(Limited 4*) “Hunting Magical Girls Is For Justice” Damage Cut [15%] & Damage Up [15%]
So... again, the only reason to use “Giant Killing at Twilight” is if you’re new to the game and you don’t have anything more powerful to use.
But once you do, you can feel free to use this memoria as Enhancement Fodder.

Mors Non Est (Nathan Bateman x Reader)
MORS NON EST (Nathan Bateman x Reader)
(so. um. this was inspired by a dream i had? because my brain does weird things at night and then sometimes i write them.)
Word Count: almost 4k oops
Summary: “Of course, you don’t die. Nobody dies. Death doesn’t exist. You only reach a new level of vision, a new realm of consciousness, a new unknown world.” — Henry Miller, author
Or, what my brain offers as alternate theory on why Nathan made AIs.
Warnings: Leaving this mortal coil (sort of), angsty musings, maybe a swear or two. Okay there’s definitely a swear or...several. (also a disclaimer that I finished this at like 3am and there was a bunch of stuff out of order but I think I got it all worked out now and proofread and all that, but apologies if anything is still wonky)
Tumblr media
The rain fell steadily against the wall of glass that faced towards the forest. Sometimes it was soft, like the tickle of a feather, the softest caress of a kiss on your hair, the skim of fingertips against the velvet red petals of a flower. Other times it was harsh, a violently crashing wave on the rocky shore, electricity ripping the sky asunder, an unbridled fierceness like a wild animal frightened and possessed.
It changed without warning.
Soft, hard. Quiet, loud. Calm, violent. Back and forth and back again.
How long had it been raining?
He turned as he heard your footsteps fall on the wooden patio planks behind him. You watched in slight fascination as he unwrapped his hands, used the cloth to dry them, and stuck a hand out to you, your attention half on him and half on the pure beauty of the surrounding scenery.
“You must be the new assistant,” he said, sounding friendly enough although his smile stayed a bit reserved.
He wasn’t expecting you to just show up on his deck. Yes, he was expecting you to be dropped off by the helicopter, that had all been arranged, but for some reason he had...he realized he wasn’t even sure what he was expecting. But you had clearly followed the pilot’s (and soon after, the house’s - that the house told you what to do amused him in the strangest way) instructions and here you were.
He knew his new assistant was more than capable (he had seen your resume, reviewed your coding and debugging history, had meticulously poured over every single little detail of work you had done for his company for the past three years not that he was obsessive about it or anything) but he wasn’t prepared for the person that now stood before him, an intriguing combination of impressed, unsure, interested, and underwhelmed.
You were fucking beautiful.
You nodded. “That’s what they tell me,” you replied, shaking his hand and supplying your name, even though you knew he already knew it. You knew enough about Nathan Bateman to know he knew everything about you before you even heard the head of HR back in the corporate office announce that you got the job.
You later admitted you didn’t know what to think about him either, and you hadn’t really expected anything, since you didn’t know much about him. He was a genius, everyone knew that, and he lived all the way out here by himself. And...that was about it. That’s what you knew.
And you thought he was...kinda hot.
And also an asshole, you liked to point out as the days went on. Nathan didn’t really mind.
*
It was an odd feeling, this feeling of dissonance and uncertainty.
There was so much that needed to be done. There was so much that he didn’t feel like doing.
He came to the door and paused. He spent most of his waking hours in this room - and to be honest, most of his hours were waking at this point, he rarely slept anyway and for as long as he could remember now he had barely slept, except when all that whiskey and vodka kicked in - and yet there was always a moment, the briefest flash of time, where forward momentum paused and he wondered if non-linear time was reality and he would find something different when he opened the door.
It wasn’t, and he never did.
He wandered into the lab and over to the table at the farthest end. Components were spread out before him and he idly reached over to the single chip laying in the center of the mess. It was the last piece of this particular puzzle, the last bit that had to be installed and configured and then…
Then suddenly it became too quiet and too loud all at once. Thoughts were screaming through his brain and he just wanted it to be quiet for a moment.
Quiet so he could go over his calculations in his head. Quiet so he could double check his math. Quiet so he could concentrate on his theories and his expected outcomes. Quiet so he could revel, just for a moment, in his monumental achievement.
There was a sweater hanging on the back of the door. He’d forgotten it was there, even though he had just seen it mere hours before. No, not forgotten, he realized. Blocked. He didn’t forget, he just purposely didn’t remember.
The silent noise became a full-blown cacophony.
Was it still raining?
*
“So how exactly are you going to solve it?” you asked one afternoon, idly twirling your pen in your hand.
“How would you do it?” he bounced back.
You sighed. His behavior was so typical. The man was a certifiable genius but that was usually the problem and not the solution. It was never straightforward. “The AI. How are you going to solve the issue of making it able to have an actual conversation with you?”
“How would you do it?” he asked again.
Shrugging your shoulders, you kept twirling the pen. “I dunno. I guess you’d have to have some way to...maybe cross-reference a database of expressions and emotions and an actual dictionary.”
Nathan paused and considered you, deep in his own forest of thought. He wheeled his chair over to his computer desk and started rapidly tapping keys. “How do you mean?”
“I don’t know,” you huffed. “Like...like some kind of mass well of every available, possible interaction. Honestly I would try to figure out the mechanics of everything else first, like motion and movement, You know, walking and running and sitting and standing.”
“Hmmm.”
“But since there are literally infinite combinations, I don’t even know how you would go about even attempting that kind of data pool.”
“I did actually have an idea about that,” he muttered. Nathan didn’t even turn from his multiple computer monitors and his fingers never stopped clacking away at his keyboard. “But you’re not going to like it.”
This time you groaned instead of sighing. He knew you could feel it coming before he asked - he always told you that you weren’t going to like it before he asked you to do something incredibly stupid that in any other circumstance would get you arrested and you’d never see daylight again.
But this was Nathan Bateman, and of course he was going to ask anyway. And of course you would say yes. You always said yes, it was one of the things he enjoyed most about your company, and even when you did say no, it gave way to a lively debate and a genuine argument over facts and merits, downsides and advantages, and it was fucking amazing.
It had been that way from the start, grown steadily over the weeks and months, and neither of you could really complain. Nathan quickly found that you could keep up with his train of thought even when the track switched abruptly and it was so engaging. Captivating. Enticing.
But this man. This amazingly intelligent (if almost insufferably arrogant) man was going to be the death of you. You told him that at least once a day. He took it as a personal challenge to give you a reason to keep living.
“What did you have in mind?” You doubted you wanted to know.
“What if…” he replied, clicking away, not looking up from the screen as he spoke, “we used the video and audio coding in Bluebook, and patched it through all the cell phone carriers, and rerouted all the satellite signals back here into the lab.”
Before you knew what was happening, your pen flew across the room and connected with his shoulder with a small *thwap*.
“What?” he finally looked up, mock annoyance in his voice.
“Are you absolutely fucking insane, or is this just an extra special occasion?”
*
He left the lab with no real idea of where he was going.
Okay, that was a lie. It was his house. He knew his way around and he knew where he needed to be next. There was an actual agenda but his focus was off.
He walked past the living room and noticed the chess set was still set out on the coffee table. The pieces were still fairly evenly matched, his green dragons maybe just slightly at a disadvantage to your purple ones (because, as you had mentioned at one point, why have a standard chess set when you could have a fun one? And Nathan knew you were anything but standard.)
He knew it was his turn and contemplated the board for a few minutes. No matter how he strategized it, how he worked it out, how he tried to plan it, you had forced him into a checkmate. Again. For at least the sixth time in a row, and probably at least the eight-seventh time out of the last hundredth you had played. He chuckled, softly, briefly. He could do anything with technology and science, but he rarely could beat you at a centuries-old board game.
He made his final move for this round, sacrificing his king to your queen.
He grabbed the notepad setting next to the chess board, and your pen that lay nearby on the table. He scrawled a quick note to you - checkmate - and placed it on your side of the board, next to your fairly gained draconian horde, even though he was certain you were never going to read it.
He went to the kitchen and poured himself a drink.
He stared out the window wall, out past the deck, to the running river and the dense groves of trees, off into the distance towards the waterfall.
He should be heading to the room. He should be taking care of the final chip install and making sure everything was online. Instead he simply stood in the kitchen and stared out into the rain.
It occurred to him that the agenda was more of a guideline and his knowledge of his surroundings was merely functional.
*
Nathan briefly considered that standing at the doorway to your bedroom was the last place he should be, but then decided he didn’t care. But that wasn’t true either.
He could just walk in, it wouldn’t be the first time - once you had been wearing only a towel, having just gotten out of the shower and that hadn’t been awkward at all - but that small bit of his conscience that he usually tried to ignore, told him to be polite.
He knocked.
“What do you want, Nathan?” You sounded muffled, like you had your face partly covered by a pillow. You were probably in bed. He shouldn’t be bothering you.
He had to bother you, just this once. “Can I come in?”
He could picture your face on the other side, eyes rolling and the sigh as it left your lips, and even though he heard the door hiss quietly as the latch released, his feet suddenly stuck to floor outside your door and his body made no further move.
“I did open the door, so if you’re going to, do it before I change my mind,” you called after a few minutes.
Nathan got his feet to cooperate and entered your room. You were in bed, face half-behind a pillow, your visible eye glaring at him. He stopped at the edge of your bed. His brain started calculating risk factors for the current situation, gains, deficits, advantages - anything it could think of, there were always factors involved, no matter what the situation was, it was just that some factors were more complicated than others. Some required more delicate, cautious manipulation to solve the equation and…
“Are you just going to stand there all night and look at me? Because I swear I really will kick you out, and then change all your passcodes.”
Of course, you teased him later about how much fun it would have been to watch him try to get back in. You swore you were going to do it one day, just for the hell of it. He didn’t mind.
“Do you regret what happened after dinner?” he finally asked.
Your glare softened and you moved the pillow away from your face. Dinner was fine. The company was pleasant as usual, the wine was frequent and flowing. The two of you had started a very animated debate about gender and sexuality as it pertained to artificial intelligence and if any of it were a necessary component or if it was just something you would prefer (he would later tell you how wonderful the expression on your face was when he told you he would be ready to start building a prototype in the next few weeks) and then.
“I don’t regret it at all. Do you?” you arched an eyebrow at him.
Nathan blew a long breath out from his nose. Did he regret kissing you? Nope. Not in the slightest. Did he regret that you might regret it (he was slightly relieved that you said you didn’t) and that nothing would come of it? Yes. And he couldn’t calculate the actual result, just potential outcomes with no concrete denouement, and that made him extremely uncomfortable. He didn’t want this to be an experiment. He wanted an absolute, not a thicket of random. Not in this case.
“No.” He still didn’t move.
“Frankly we should have done it months ago.”
He shook his head and turned just the slightest bit before your reply registered and he processed it. “Wait. You...what?”
You exhaled and sighed as you rolled over, facing away from him and trying to get comfortable in the bed again. “You know, Nathan Bateman, for being the smartest man in the universe, sometimes you are a complete idiot.”
“I’m not going to argue that. This time, anyway.”
“Thank you, because it’s nearly three in morning,” you replied. He could hear the smile in your voice. “Can we talk about this in the morning? Like, later in the morning. I’ll see you for breakfast.”
He nodded and really did turn to leave this time. He was still trying to process. “Okay. Yeah, sure. I, uh...I’ll see you then.”
“Good night, Nathan.”
*
The rain had finally stopped.
He looked out over the landscape, now reflecting and refracting tiny bursts of sunlight in the lingering blanket of droplets.
Trees crowded both sides of the rushing river, leading towards the top of the waterfall. There was a small clearing there, one that almost wouldn’t be found if someone wasn’t looking for it. It was one of your favorite spots.
Nathan found you there fairly often, after he had shown you where it was. If the weather was cooperating, and you weren’t in the house, then nine times out of ten, that’s where Nathan would find you. Sometimes you were reading a book, sometimes you were just stretched out in the grass, looking up at the tips of the timbers as they reached to the sky.
Sometimes he would join you. Those were times that deep conversations would happen, about the projects back at the house and technology and your odd fascination with disco music, which Nathan truly did not understand but tried to humor.
Sometimes he would just smile and let you have your peace. Those were times he would go back to the house and quietly await your return.
He knew that’s where he would find you now.
*
“I’m back from Anchorage,” you called as you came in the front door.
Nathan was in the kitchen and poked his head around the doorway. “Hey. Perfect timing,” he said, brushing his hands off on his pants and flipping a dish towel over his shoulder. “Dinner is almost ready.”
A tired sign escaped your lips as you flopped down on the couch, taking one of the throw pillows and covering your chest and half your face with it. “Thanks. Not hungry.”
“How was the trip?”
You snorted softly. “Wet. Raining. Absolutely miserable.”
It wasn’t what you said that made Nathan stop. It was the way you said it. Your voice sounded so tired, so empty. It didn’t really sound like you, not the voice he’d come to expect to hear every day. It was not the voice that engaged him in conversation, that drew him into theories and concepts and philosophies. It was not the voice that argued about codes and programs and why that would not work no matter how much he insisted it would (to be fair, you were usually right, but he wasn’t going down without a good fight, and neither of you would have it any other way.) The voice that was leaving your body through your mouth wasn’t you.
It sounded hollow.
He leaned against the doorway. The air in the room suddenly felt heavier and he couldn’t quite get his feet to move forward to the couch where you sat. “What did they say?”
Nathan noted that you didn’t look at him. You looked everywhere but him. Like you were trying to keep everything from falling to pieces, maybe? You were definitely not acting yourself either. Suddenly he wanted to take himself outside and kick his own ass. He should have gone with you. You’d been talking about it, for weeks now, he realized.
How tired you were. How you were never really hungry. How things felt like they were getting harder when they shouldn’t have been. How you couldn’t go quite as far on the hikes you loved taking so much, together.
He should have gone with you.
Your face did not move from its half-protected shield behind that tasteful throw pillow.
He doesn’t register most of what you said. He remembers the words “bad” and “already done everything” and “months, maybe”. Maybe. No definite conclusion.
He finally managed to take a few steps towards you.
His brain was kicking into overdrive but not a single one of that rush of thoughts would make an appearance on his tongue. There had to be another answer. Another answer that wasn’t the one he could already see in your eyes.
Your eyes. His favorite feature (at least from the neck up), the ones that showed how much life you had, your spark, your fire.
And he realized the hollowness of your voice had traveled up into those beautiful eyes.
Words stopped making sense in an instant. Everything around him got fuzzy, jagged at the edges, but also intensely focused at the same time.
He finally crossed the room and sat down carefully, warily, on the couch.
Neither of you said another word. His arms slipped around you and you curled into his chest, pulling your knees up to your own. No tears from either of you. No sounds. No words.
He didn’t know how long you stayed on that couch.
The next thing you knew you were in bed, Nathan’s arms still wrapped around you. He must have carried you to the bedroom at some point. You felt the coolness of the sheets contrast with the warmth of his body; you mustn’t have been out for long. You were about to drift off again when Nathan finally broke the silence.
“We’ll figure out a way.”
A sigh escaped your lips, half drenched in sleep.
*
It was the last place he wanted to be. It was the only place he wanted to go.
He slipped into a hoodie and pulled on a pair of shoes and stepped out onto the deck. The air was still somewhat saturated, humid, but the rain was holding off for now. It was warm but he wasn’t, so the hoodie stayed on.
His feet took him down the deck stairs and onto the path paralleling the river. He followed it slowly, breathing in the summer air but not really seeing his surroundings. Like in his house, he knew where he was heading, and this was just the agenda.
At some point (minutes, hours, he really didn’t know how much time had passed) he came to that small clearing of trees.
And there you were.
Nathan took a jagged breath and sat down next to you. His pants were soaked in an instant, but he didn’t care. He was more annoyed that you were cold and wet (he briefly considered how funny you would find the double entendre, and probably tell him that you were definitely wet but he never made you feel cold) and chuckled again when he could hear your scoffing insistence that you were fine here in your special spot.
You weren’t fine. He knew this and wished desperately that you could tell him, tell him anything, say something.
He wasn’t fine. And he definitely did mind.
Nathan didn’t know what else to do, so he just started talking.
“So, uh...I know it’s been a while. I’ve just been really busy, trying to get the AI just right, and...I’m sorry I’ve been away. That’s not what I meant to happen. I’ve been working pretty much non-stop, I know you would be nagging me to get some sleep and eat better and all that shit. And...I wish you would. I would listen to you, for once.”
Silence and the far-off chirp of a bird were his only reply, so he continued.
“I know I shouldn’t be working so much, but I kinda have to. It’s the only way I feel close enough to…”
His throat was acutely, suddenly dry. He did his best to clear it. He was only marginally successful.
“So anyway, that idea I told you about, with all the cell phone data rerouting it here? It worked. Please don’t be mad at me, I know it wasn’t your favorite idea, but I’m pretty sure that’s what finally broke this open. Well, that and all the ideas we worked out together. I can’t thank you enough for what you did for me, and I know I never really did, and I probably never will…”
He had remembered to grab one thing before he left the house, stashing it in the pocket of the hoodie. He pulled it out now, a single red rose. Cliche, maybe, but they were your favorite flower.
Nathan placed it gently against the stone on the edge of the clearing. The stone with your name. It only had your first name, no dates. He could never bear to put any indicator of time on it; it was too final. Conclusive. Terminal.
He stood and started walking back. He never could stay here very long. It was absolutely ridiculous, but he usually had the feeling you would pop out from behind a tree and tease him about how impressive your joke was and he would never top it.
It wasn’t a joke, it wasn’t funny, and he wished he could prove you wrong.
But there was still something he might be able to prove. To make a few things right.
He stopped at the edge of the clearing.
“I have someone else coming to the house this week. He works for the company, he’s a coder...he looks like a good kid. I’m gonna use him to test this model. This really could be the breakthrough we’ve...I’ve...been looking for.”
Nathan turned his head back briefly, to say one last thing before he headed back to the house, before he had to get back to his work.
“I promise I’ll come back soon and tell you all about it.”
The rain started softly coming down again.

Chapter 2 - Hangout [QuartetNight]
Chapter 3 →
Camus Cryszard
For the past few rehearsals, Camus had attended and observed your masterpiece. How you changed it. How you developed the suspense and diminished it.
It was the end of one of your last rehearsals before the final performance. The relationship between you and Camus... well you two didn't have a dispute like your first meeting so everything is alright per say.
The orchestra had left to their dorms or their other activities. You, however, sat in the practice room, reviewing snippets of the arrangement.
"LN-san, you are still working," He said, noting that you did not leave with the orchestra members.
"Yes I am..." You replied, scribbling comments on your notebook. "What of it?"
"Are you having some trouble?" He asked, all gentlemanly.
"Are you putting on your idol personality?" You giggled a little. "Sorry if I sound rude. I have worked with two-personality idols, Camus-san."
He dropped the act immediately. You went to explain your problem.
"Well, one of the cello players doesn't keep up..." You said.
"Yukinari-san was it?"
"Y-Yes... You noticed as well?" You were surprised that he went so far to acknowledge the student's name as well.
He haughtily pushed up the reading glasses he wore. "I am supposed to observe this rehearsal."
You went back to your notetaking. Camus sat across from you on the desk as well, adjusting the reports he had done for the day.
Deciding to break the awkward silence, you said to Camus, "I know you have a dislike towards me. But it's the last day we'll see each other."
He looked up at you in confusion. He had the typical 'what are you talking about?' expression.
"What I'm saying is... can we just chat over some cake? I just wanna clear things up," You said. You pulled out two separate containers of cake that you bought. He got up. "I will prepare some tea then."
Camus came back with a tray of a tea set. Your eyes widened at the fancy presentation.
"I just wanted to apologise about the first time we met. We got off on the wrong foot," You explained.
"Taking a break will help you find solutions," He said. "And I have to say... I apologise as well LN-san."
"We were both in fault," You admitted. You two began to talk about other things ー professional things of course. Ambitions, the academy and the people you work with. He spoke a little of bit of his members as well.
Once he had finished his tea and his cake, he decided to leave.
"I hope you succeed in the project," Camus tells you before leaving.
"Is that your idol persona or your honest feelings?"
"My honest feelings."
Ai Mikaze
After successfully finishing the song, you had invited Ai out as a thanks. To be honest, you didn't know what teens like him wanted nowadays, so you had to ask him to go shopping.
"Thanks to you, Ai-san, my voice acting improved! I connected the character more though your song!" You said, giving him a thumbs up.
He just nodded, silently accepting your gratitude.
"Anyway, I'll treat you today. Whaddya say?" You said. "Where do you wanna go first?"
He looked confused. "I... I don't know."
"Look around. Sure you'll find something," You said, encouraging him.
He wandered around, as you ate your crepe. You offered to purchase him one, but he refused again.
"I want to go here," Ai finally tells you.
He pointed to a gaming store. You quickly stuffed your crepe in your mouth and walked inside with him.
Ai was quick to make his purchase. It was the recent historical video game that came out.
"You like this game too?!" You said, excited.
Ai was confused. "You played this before? How? It came out only a week ago.”
You laughed. "I voice acted for this. See?" You pointed out your name on the game pack to him. You were one of the main side characters. "We got the copy of the game earlier for our work."
"Oh." A red slowly crept onto Ai's face. "Thank you for buying this for me." You paid for the game. "When you levelled up enough, you can battle against me!"
"Sure," he said.
Reiji Kotobuki
It was a week after you had attended Quartet Night's concert. To your relief, your senior gave you glowing reviews despite Kotobuki-san giving you a difficult time in terms of communication.
You decided to show your gratitude to your senior. "Junpachi-san! Thank you for giving me a great review."
He smiled at you. "Nothing to worry about LN-san. I was just honest."
He offered you a cup of (f/d) to which you accepted. You sat across from each other as you two continue to write up reports. "LN-san. I apologise," Junpachi spoke up.
"Huh? What for?"
"Kotobuki Reiji-san asked for your contact. I gave it to him," He explained. "Before you get mad at me, I didn't know how to turn him down! I bet he's pretty powerful and influential and..."
"WHAT?!"
"Look at it like this. You are still looking after Kotobuki-san as credit. I'll even put in a word for you for the professor. Just please... forgive me," He begged. As if on cue, your phone received a notification.
Hey Miss Paramedic! Your kind senior gave me your number and I just wanted to take you out as a thanks! Please accept?
"Junpachi-san... It's him..."
"Well... Answer him!"
You quickly typed back:
If you send me to the research centre, I'll consider.
Great! I'm waiting for you at Entrance E!
He's already here?!
You apologised to your senior and went to the lot. Lo and behold, Reiji was there. With his car. In disguise of course.
"I thought we would go on a ride," He said, fishing out his keys. "This is a one-time thing, right?" You said.
"It's a thanks, Miss Princess." You didn't bother to correct him anymore. He opened the front door to the passenger seat, and you hopped in. In the car, you were reviewing your notes.
"It looks difficult," He commented. You silently agreed, nodding your head. Reiji went on and on about his day. Recordings, photoshoots, his bandmates, teaching other idols...
"Must be tough being a star," You said. Reiji didn't say anything afterwards. He piped up again. "YN-san, why did you decide to come? Did you just need a ride?"
"Nope," You immediately denied. "I could've asked my senior if I wanted." Reiji was stunned.
You continued. "But... I wanted to apologise."
"Huh?"
"When you sprained you ankle, you couldn't perform at your concert. You just had to sit on a chair and sing. If I tried my hardest, I could've at least enabled you to walk around or stand upー"
"What are you going to do about it now?" He asked. "The concert went well, and the fans weren't angry. Camyu... Well... He scolded me for slipping up on a simple step."
He stopped the car at the entrance of the research centre.
"I'm going to try my hardest," You said. "It wasn't my best. I'll try to give ー no. I'm going to give my best next time. Kotobuki-san get better soon. And thank you. If this is our last encounter, then I am glad."
You got out of the car and left.
"I wouldn't want it to be our last..." Reiji mumbled as he drove off.
Ranmaru Kurosaki
It's been few days of you and Ranmaru being on the same vicinity. However, you two haven't hung out ever since that surfing incident due to your clashing schedules. Finally, on the second last night of your stay, Ranmaru was free for dinner. At the hotel restaurant, you and Ranmaru ー and the rest of Quartet Night ー had dinner together.
You chatted casually with the rest of the members, mostly getting along with Reiji since you both like to tease Ranmaru.
Dinner soon ended and Ranmaru pulled you away from the rest of his group. He took you along the boardwalk near the beach and stepped into the soft grainy sand. You followed suit and sat down with Ranmaru who was rummaging through his drawstring bag.
"What are you doing Ran?" You said. "Shouldn't we go back?"
"They'll be fine... Help me out here."
You crouched down and what was on the sand was... shells. And string. Clasps. Picks.
"You wanna make bracelets?" You guessed.
He took off his necklace that he kept since childhood. He showed the imperfections that scratched the worn-out shells.
"I need to repair it... I don't really know how," Ranmaru admitted. "Since you made it, I thought you could help me."
You took off your bracelet and snapped the band. "I guess we might as well make a new set!"
You two worked together to make a bracelet and a necklace set for each of you. You glanced at Ranmaru's collection of tiny shells. "When did you collect all of these?" You said. "It's an impressive collection!"
He reddened at your praise. "I collected randomly... I-It's... You shouldn't think too much about it!"
"Whatever you say~"
You two finished up. "Do you like it?"
You showed off the shell necklace you made. He nodded and gave you the bracelet he made. "I tried to replicate it..."
You put it on. "Thanks..."
You were about to continue until your phone buzzed. It was your manager. "Well, looks like I have to go back to my overprotective mother," You said sarcastically. You picked up your stuff and waved goodbye. "Let's meet up again Mawu!"
"S-Sure!" Ranmaru waved back. As your figure faded into the distance, he pressed his palm above his thumping heart. "No way... Do I like her?"

The Last of Us 2
A Review: Will Contain Spoilers
This last weekend I played TLOU2.
I was apprehensive. I saw leaks, I read the hate some fans spewed - About Abby being trans, about TLOU2 being "Mini Golf", about Ellie and Joel being killed off. All the garbage and hate.
I was... apprehensive when I picked up my controller and opened up the loading screen to see Ellie's rage filled face contorted on my screen.
Tumblr media
And then the butterflies and the boat lapping on the waves surrounded by fog and I was lost in the world of the apocalypse. The smarter AI of the enemy was appreciated as I belly crawled and slit throats. Stealthily, sneakily - my forte and preferred methods of pve game play. They even gave us a more sandbox-y feel with Seattle, all the storefronts to explore and hidden easter eggs to find. The game play not being purely linear as it was in TLOU. I could feel myself getting emotional knowing Naughty Dog listened.
I felt heard, and not only that but represented.
Female.
Main.
Characters.
That you play.
The entire game.
Not scantily clad, not sexy - I mean, not objectively (but I want muscles like them hell yes). Fuck, one of them is built like a goddamn tank (Abby, please give me your arms).
They don't exist to serve some sort of fantasy, they're real. They're human. They represent *us*.
WHAT. THE. FUCK.
Yes please, may I have some more?
No wonder some boys are losing their minds.
How dare females in video games exist to represent r-  re- real women  (Remember the uproar when people realized Ellie was lesbian?)
And now we get to the controversial parts. The spoilers.
Playing as Ellie was... easy. Beautiful. I felt her rage, I cried her tears, my heart broke when hers did. Her mission of vengeance was mine. I happily slaughtered the WLFs and went out of my way to get as many of the fuckers as I could. Their stupid fucking dogs too. Fuck every last one of them. All of them. I wanted to set fire to their cars, bomb their buildings.
But then... we switched perspective and I'll be honest, I HATED it. I hated Abby. I didn't care about her stupid ass, motherfucking back story. I didn't give a fuck about her family, or her friends... I killed her as much as humanly possible. And I liked doing it. I begrudgingly upgraded her. I got a little fucking competitive at the dumb archery competition. I wanted to get the fucking sniper. I broke my own heart when I walked onto the boat knowing what Abby was going to do.
Tumblr media
I started, inexplicably, against my own judgement - my own prejudice -relating to her. It wasn't until Lev and Yara (motherly instinct? The mirroring of Joel's parental bonds?) that I started really accepting Abby's character, understanding her atonement. Seeing the pattern.
Remembering the characters here. Don't forget, in The Last of Us, Joel specifically tells Ellie he was 'on both sides' of it - being a hunter and the prey. He killed innocent people, trapped them and stole their stuff to survive. He wasn't a good person either. That's what I loved about playing the game. No one is "good". Everyone is morally ambiguous. Ellie is too.
It doesn't matter your emotional attachment to the character, they are not good. Except Lev. Lev is innocent and perfect and I love him. Fuck you.
But then, as Ellie, I could feel her going too far. Feel her choosing her anger, slipping into her madness. Using it as an excuse, a salve over her broken heart. 'If I hurt you worse, I'll stop hurting'. And the fight between Ellie and Abby was beautiful, the way their bodies moved was perfect to their builds; Abby a heavy hitter, excellent for her more muscular, solid stature. Ellie lithe and silent, quick and clever. Opposite sides of the same coin.
And Lev. Let me just love on our little Lev for a minute, easily my favorite new character. Everyone was dogging on a trans character in the post-apocalypse and saying shit about Abby. Man, Abby is a stacked chick, born thicc. She's a muscular snacc and I am jelly af of that. But Lev. Lev is ftm and perfect (props to Yara for being the supportive sister we all aspire to be). Lev is Abby's voice of reason, her guiding light, her redemption. Also, Lev is deadly as shit with a bow. I stan Lev. So much. I want Lev to be a playable character. I need it. Next game hopefully. When he's a little older, maybe? Moving on (I love Lev, he's my new son. I have four sons now).
Tumblr media
The next scene was, I thought, the end. Ellie with her family, her son, her wife. But no. she chose vengeance and my heart shattered. This is where my opinion of the game truly changed from enjoyable to top favorites. I spent the rest of the game just chanting 'No, no, no. Ellie no, stop, what are you doing, Ellie, stop. Go back home. Ellie."
This is where I truly understood how broken she was. How far gone she had sold herself to hatred. But I also understood. The PTSD, the nightmares. Feeling, hearing, seeing. If you don't have that kind of trauma I don't think you'll understand. But I do. I understand.
I had to take a moment during her flashback. I had to take a moment to cry. To break with her. When she made her choice to fall into the darkness, to lose her family, to remain broken instead of heal. I was so sad.
And, without giving too much away, in the end. How broken both women are. The empty home Ellie returns to after finally, finally choosing to let it go. The dead garden, the empty corral, the furniture gone except for her room - still filled with her guitar that she plays mournfully at the end.
Tumblr media
Beautifully bittersweet. A game I will play again and again, that I love. Screw all the butt hurt fuckbois.

prompt: A.V.A and H.U.E make a bet on the possibility of Ash and Little Cato becoming a couple in the future or just stay as friends.
ohh this was a fun one. thank you for the prompt and I hope you enjoy it!!
HUE had learned during his time as the Galaxy One's AI that people are...odd. Their relationships are complicated, and their feelings dictate everything. Logic honestly holds very little importance when dealing with relations. Gary's interactions with others have shown him that.
Now, HUE has a body. It can be fun. He is no longer in control of a ship, so AVA frustrates him with her deliberate attempts to mock him. They have a strained relationship, HUE thinks. It reminds him of Quinn towards Gary, at the beginning of her stay on the Galaxy One. But what that means for AVA and HUE's relationship is up for debate.
Along with a new ship comes new crew members. HUE has come to like Fox and Ash, and Clarence is still a puzzlement to HUE even after a couple of weeks aboard the Crimson Light.
There are two groups among the ship: HUE's friends and the original members of the Crimson Light. The relationships between those two are very complex, constantly changing as they encounter more obstacles throughout their journey. Gary has come to an almost-stalemate with Clarence, everyone loves Mooncake, and Nightfall and Ash have bonded some.
There has been a new development on the relationship front, HUE has noticed. Little Cato and Ash have gradually been spending more time together ever since going to Serepentis. And not just time together, but alone time.
HUE has caught Little Cato and Ash walking into Ash's room frequently, and it has only become more common as the days pass. He does not know what they do while in there, but he is very curious to find out.
Now, HUE stands in the bridge, watching as Gary guides Little Cato through the various controls for the ship. Little Cato does have a good grasp on how to fly the ship, but Gary thought it would be a good idea to teach him the more intricate aspects of controlling the Crimson Light.
"Okay, so if you hit this button here, it cuts power to the engine for a couple of seconds. If we're ever being chased, you could just do that to stop quickly and then they'll come right back on to do whatever cool move you want," Gary explains.
Little Cato's eyes widen, and a look spreads across his face that Gary once described as "lighting up." HUE can understand that term, looking at how the young Ventrexian's face splits into a wide grin, his excitement shining in his eyes.
"Woah," Little Cato gasps. "Can you teach me how to do it?"
Gary smiles. From HUE's understanding of the term fond, he comes to the conclusion that Gary feels that way in the moment. The blond quickly ruffles the boy's hair, shoving him out of the pilot's chair for a quick moment. Gary sits, and Little Cato is about to sit on his lap when he stops, catching something out of the corner of his eye.
HUE looks towards the entryway, the place where Little Cato's attention is focused, to see Ash, quietly urging Little Cato to follow her. The boy opens his mouth for a second before closing it with a nod and turning to Gary.
"Actually, you can show me later. See ya, TB!" Little Cato shouts, jogging out of the room to meet an awaiting Ash. They quickly disappear, and HUE is left to wonder.
HUE walks towards Gary, who began fiddling around with the ship settings. "Gary, do you know what Ash and Little Cato have been doing lately?"
Gary turns to HUE and shrugs. "They're just hanging out, I guess."
"I can see that, Gary. But do you know specifically what they do when they are together?" HUE questions.
The blond cards a hand through his hair and blows out a breath. "No? Does it really matter?"
"Aren't you curious?"
"Teenagers are very strange, so I wouldn't be surprised if they were doing things people shouldn't walk in on," AVA says.
HUE crosses his arms. Of course AVA had to interject.
"From what I have seen of interactions, I believe that they are just very good friends," HUE says matter-of-factly.
"Please, kids their age can't be just friends."
"Oh, are you willing to bet on that, AVA?" HUE challenges.
She pauses for a moment. "Sure, why the hell not. Stakes are winning the title of the ultimate AI."
"It is on, dawg," says HUE, crossing his fists together.
HUE notices that Gary is watching them in what seems to be exasperation, a feeling HUE knows awfully well from his time attempting to control Gary. Gary sighs and shrugs, shaking his head incredulously. "You guys are ridiculous."
HUE shakes his head. "No, but I am going to win. Prepare to hear my huzzahs!"
And so it begins, a challenge that leads to both AIs stalking two children for the sake of bragging rights, as Gary has to point out every time he catches them in the act. Which has been quite often in the past few days.
HUE has discovered that Ash and Little Cato have never been caught with expressions similar to how Gary would look at Quinn, or Nightfall to Gary. And he has never seen an expression similar to anything Clarence is capable of making, which is a relief on all ends.
To be honest, this challenge has been more difficult for HUE than anticipated. For as much time as he has been watching emotions and relationships grow, he has had very little time to infer and theorize because of his previous all-knowing nature. It has proven to be yet another disadvantage of his corporeal form.
The two AIs combined have gathered countless pieces of evidence, currently yet to be categorized as to being in favor of HUE's or AVA's theory.
The first day of the bet, Ash and Little Cato talked nonstop for four hours and twenty-seven minutes. The topics were random at best, and they could not decipher any meaning out of the conversation. Gary claimed it to be teens just acting like teens.
From that point on, Ash has taught Little Cato how to paint nails. They have had intense discussions that involved one of them crying. Hugs have been witnessed along with movie marathons and yelling matches.
When the two are around the other members of the Crimson Light, they will whisper things to each other from time to time, causing the other to laugh. Looking at their expressions, HUE does not know what emotions are there other than being happy, which is indicative of several possibilities.
So, there is a multitude of evidence, yet no clear answer as to who the winner is.
Currently, HUE and AVA are reviewing the footage and notes gathered throughout their search so far. HUE has been tasked with organizing it into categories as AVA judges him, as usual. What a helpful AI she is. HUE steps back to survey the evidence, and he is only left more confused.
Relationships are much too complex for logic, HUE learns once again. All of their interactions could have several different meanings, but none can be simply chosen due to lack of context and greater knowledge.
"Oh, this will never be solved," HUE complains out loud.
"That, we can agree on," AVA says.
HUE hears footsteps in the hallway behind him and turns around to see Gary and Little Cato walking together. Gary catches HUE's gaze and then notices the conspiracy board behind him and stops, staring at it in shock and clear confusion. Little Cato looks to Gary, then looks to where his adoptive father is looking, and has an even more confused expression on his face.
"Are you for serious right now, guys?" Gary asks emphatically. "You've actually been doing this?"
HUE and AVA both stay silent, the answer not needing to be said.
Gary rubs a hand down his face, pinching the bridge of his nose, an act that he has been doing with a greater frequency as of late. He waves his hand around aimlessly, trying to articulate something that is unknown to him.
"Okay, I'm ending this right now," Gary says, then promptly steers Little Cato away from HUE and AVA.
The two AIs wait in silence until Gary pops his head through the doorway a few moments later. "HUE wins. Don't do this again, okay? It's like, mega creepy." Then he disappears behind the entryway without any hesitation.
"Huzzah! Take that, AVA!" HUE cheers, putting both of his fists up in victory.
Silence follows, HUE's arms still in the air.
"This was a waste of time," AVA sighs. "I guess you win, HUE."
Well, if HUE has learned anything from this, it is that he has a lot of work on in terms of understanding relationships. And that watching pictures burn is a slow process.

VOICE Tour Live Report Part 2
Hi everyone!
Tumblr media
It’s been 84 years...Okay, here is part two of my report. The ACTUAL report so to speak. Just in time for the tour final. I am expecting some news articles to be posted soon. I hope we will get some nice pictures of the Tokyo live. Anyways, sorry to have kept you waiting. Things have been crazy in Japan. There was a lot of stuff that didn’t go according to plan and I never got the chance to write the rest of my report while I was in Japan. And now that I have been back, I have been pretty busy with work >_< Unfortunately, writing reports like this takes A LOT of time because I try to do it as detailed as possible, I wanna do Wakana’s live justice after all. Oh well, I should stop rambling and start with the actual report. Before I focus on the songs I would like to share a few general thoughts.
Seating/audience: As most of you probably know, I attended both the Tokyo as well as the Fukuoka concert of Wakana’s tour. I had amazing seats for both lives. In Tokyo I was seated in the second row and in Fukuoka I had a first-row seat. Both were located right at the center so Wakana was literally in front of me. BANZAI!! The Fukuoka stage wasn’t very high and there was only about 1 ½ metres between the stage and the first row so basically I could have reached out and touched Wakana (not that I would ever do that but you get what I mean XD). It’s the closest I have ever been to her during a concert. I was able to see every micro expression on her face, I looked into her eyes, I waved at her, it felt so good to be noticed. On a more or less related note I wanna add that I felt kinda bad for Wakana because for the Fukuoka live the hall was pretty empty, I think the audience only filled about half of it (if not less - for reference, the main hall has a capacity for about 1,000 people, I think we weren’t even 500 people in the audience). I hear it was the same for her other venues (except the Tokyo live which was quite well visited but even there the upper floor was empty). Lining up for the goods was also completely different. Merchandise sale started very late, about 1 ½ hours before the live and there were hardly any people lining up. It’s really sad to see Wakana getting so little support for her solo activities. I guess lots of YK and Kalafina fans aren’t really interested to follow her. Right now Wakana’s management is making the mistake of still thinking in Kalafina dimensions. Wakana as a solo artist simply can’t fill out halls like Kalafina. Maybe at some point in her career she will be able to but I feel she will have to do a lot of tie-ins to achieve that sort of popularity. Right now it would be smarter to go for slightly smaller (and more classical) venues I think...This way the halls would fill up quickly and it would probably reduce the ticket prices (which in turn would make more people willing to purchase them). I hope for the next tour they will consider making some changes. Wakana deserves to perform at sold out lives.
Band style: Speaking of “more classical” venues, I feel like Wakana would also benefit from a more “classical style/acoustic arrangement”. The band style is a bit overwhelming at times, there were a few songs that would have sounded SO MUCH better with a less band-heavy arrangement, at least in my opinion. In particular the drums and bass guitar felt a little overbearing during some parts of the performance (“Yakusoku no Yoake” and “Toki wo Koeru Yoru ni” immediately come to mind - the bass was bordering on obnoxious during “Toki wo Koeru Yoru ni” and the drums kinda almost ruined the mystical/translucent atmosphere of “Yakusoku no Yoake”). Don’t get me wrong, I am not blaming the musicians, I think they all did well. The guitarist was particularly dedicated, he switched between e-guitar and acoustic guitar throughout the entire concert, even during songs. There was a staff member that constantly had to run back and forth, I felt kinda bad for him. At any rate, all the musicians were really into it and they were obviously having lots of fun. Unfortunately, most of Wakana’s songs simply aren’t suited to be played by a “standard” band.
Vocals: Wakana’s vocals were great during both concerts. As far as I can tell she hit all of her notes, to me she sounded particularly beautiful in Jidai, Boku no Kokoro no Tokei, Hikari Furu and Ai no Hana. At no point did she seem exhausted, I didn’t notice her getting out of breath and she barely even sweated. Due to the nature of most songs, she didn’t move a lot so she was able to focus fully on her singing. I did notice however that her voice got occasionally drowned by the band. Once in a while she would sing her lines really quietly, not sure why though. Maybe she lacked confidence or she forgot the lyrics. Perhaps she purposefully used a quiet voice and didn’t take into account that the background music and band would be so loud. That’s just a minor complaint though and didn’t really take away from the overall experience.
Production: The stage set up was very simple which I didn’t mind. The decoration consisted of these metal thingies hanging from the ceiling (as seen on the report pictures). The atmosphere was mostly created via the lighting. There was a screen in the back but it was barely used. To be honest, I only really noticed it during “Kaze ni Naritai”. I am sure it was used during other songs but for the life of me, I can’t remember. There was no choreography or anything. Wakana just did what she felt like doing. Some swaying here, some arm gesture there. A bit of walking across the stage during the more up-beat songs. The outfits were obviously chosen by Wakana herself. You could tell she felt very comfortable in them. She also opted for flat sandals. It’s details like that which made the lives feel very real and intimate.
MCs: Wakana was quite nervous during her MCs (especially at her Tokyo live which was filmed). At times she was a bit awkward and didn’t really know what to say. She even admitted to feel a little uncomfortable since this is the first time in her solo career to have so many cameras around. She definitely talked a lot more at the Tokyo live but I am not sure if all of that is gonna make it onto the DVD/BD (I hope so though!). During her Fukuoka live she was far more relaxed and towards the end you could tell that she didn’t mind the MCs at all. She was able to talk freely at that point.  Either way, at both lives she managed to work her way through the MCs. The audience was very supportive and found her little awkwardness quite precious. I mean, how could you not find her cute?
Tokyo or Fukuoka? Overall, I thought the Fukuoka live was much better than the concert in Tokyo. Wakana was more relaxed and I guess she didn’t feel as pressured since there were no cameras. She cried at the end when she said her final goodbye. It was so sweet. Also, the acoustics were a lot better at the Fukuoka Convention Center, at least it sounded that way for me. The band wasn’t so loud and Wakana’s microphone was quite well-balanced which really cannot be said for the Tokyo live (but as I mentioned in my previous post, I think it will be easy to fix with a bit of studio magic, the video release should sound fine).
Okay, now let’s finally get to the songs...
Tumblr media
01.約束の夜明け | Yakusoku no Yoake Wakana came on stage wearing the orange/salmon-coloured dress and flat white Roman-style sandals. The lights weren’t doing her arms any favours to be honest but aside from that she looked gorgeous. The colour of the dress really accentuated her skin tone. Her hair was made up in an elaborate ponytail with lots of braids. For this song there was some sort of see-through screen similar to the one used for Koibito no Mukashigatari no Yūgure no during Kalafina’s FOTW tour. The song started with a short intro/overture that sounded very epic. I think they should have added that part to the studio version (since that one starts rather abruptly). As mentioned in my quick overall review, everything was quite loud during this song (more so during the Tokyo live than the one in Fukuoka). I didn’t really like how the band sounded, to me it felt rather overwhelming. I think something different is needed for an almost ethereal song like that. Maybe some strings or a flute...Sometimes a little less is more. On top of that, Wakana’s singing was quite loud to compensate the sound of the instruments so that didn’t exactly make it better. Wakana did a little “oohhhh-ing” for the rather long instrumental section that starts around 2:40 minutes. It’s also noticeable in the studio version if you listen closely but it’s barely there. For the live version Wakana is doing some proper “ooohh-ing”, it sounded really nice. I expected to REALLY love this song since it’s among my album faves but unfortunately the loudness and arrangement made it very hard for me to fully appreciate the performance. It wasn’t bad or anything but I also wasn’t blown away. I guess you could say it was a little underwhelming...
02.流れ星 | Nagareboshi A straightforward performance. Sounded pretty much exactly like the studio version. For me this song is ranked pretty low as far as the album tracks are concerned. I had hoped Wakana’s live performance would make me appreciate the song more but I still feel the same way about it. I mean, I don’t dislike it or anything, I just don’t enjoy it as much as most of the other album tracks. It just doesn’t click with me if that makes sense. At the end of the performance we get a small highlight. Wakana went up to her little table and picked up a couple of instruments. First she used the tingsha to create some sort of “bling” sound. Then she took the big rainstick and slowly moved it upside down to create the sound of rain. Honestly, I can’t wait for you to see her face on the video release, I hope they caught her expressions on camera, she looked so happy playing those instruments. Like a little child that got to play with her favourite toy.
MC: I don’t have much memory of the MCs tbh (or rather, I don’t remember what was being said in which MC because there were SO MANY) but I think she talked about her album release here and how she wants people to listen to her as an individual, she wants people to focus on her as a human being, this tour is only about her and her voice (which is also why the tour title is “VOICE”). This is also where she talked about the weather I think. How she tends to be really unlucky and wherever she goes she brings rain with her. During her first few tour lives the weather was always really nice but unfortunately it rained a lot on the day of her Tokyo live. It did however stop raining towards the late afternoon. The weather wasn’t exactly nice but at least we managed to stay dry. It was super hot and sunny for Wakana’s Fukuoka live. Maybe she mentioned the cameras here too or it might have been in a later MC...? Anyways, she confirmed that we would get a home video release for this concert.
03.瑠璃色の空 | Ruriiro no Sora This is probably my least favourite song of the album, it’s just not my cup of tea. As a result, the performance didn’t really stand out to me and I don’t have much to say about it.. However, for those who like the song I think you will like the live performance because Wakana sounded really good. No complaints.
04.Hard Rain This is where the concert really picked up for me. It was the first up-beat song of the live and I generally enjoyed the performance. In the beginning when I first listened to the album I wasn’t sure whether or not I liked “Hard Rain”, both “Ruriiro no Sora” and “Hard Rain” have a similar vibe, they almost sound “jazz-y” to me and honestly, jazz is a genre I don’t enjoy at all. But unlike “Ruriiro no Sora” “Hard Rain” managed to win me over. The studio version is really nice but the live version is so much better. Wakana delivered a lovely performance, her stage presence was great. During the chorus she kept walking from one end of the stage to the other, flapping her multi-layered skirt. She came right to the edge of the stage so I felt really close to her.The “paya-paya” part at the end of the song was lip-synched to some extent. Or at least they had a very loud track playing in the background. The last few “paya-payas” she sang herself.
MC: I think in this MC Wakana talks about the privilege of working together with so many different and talented composers/songwriters. She feels honoured that all these beautiful songs were made for her. She learned a lot, she got to meet lots of amazing people, she got a lot more involved in the creative process. The next song was composed and written by Yūko Andō, Wakana is particularly smitten by this piece because it’s so powerful, it’s a showcase of female strength.
05.記憶の人 | Kioku no Hito In my opinion Wakana’s live performance far exceeded the studio version. Those who already love the studio version will fall in love even more with the song once they watch the live. At least that’s what happened to me. There was so much emotion in her voice. She sounded beautiful. THIS is the kind of singing style I enjoy most from Wakana, it’s this kind of song where she gets to shine. The previous songs lacked this particular charm (at least it felt that way to me). Don’t get me wrong, they were all solid performances but there are distinctive aspects of Wakana’s voice that I originally fell in love with and that aren’t really all that present in the above mentioned songs (because they are a different style to what Wakana usually sings). Does this make sense? The band thankfully held back here, the arrangement was very simple, no excessive use of drums, e-guitar or bass.
06.時の音 | Toki no Ne Just like with “Kioku no Hito” this song was much more impressive being performed live (as impressive as a slow ballad like that can get :P). While listening to the album I usually neglected this track because I didn’t really care for it all that much. However, Wakana’s nuanced performance really moved me. There was something in her voice that struck my heart, it’s hard to explain. Once again the band held back for which I was very grateful. An understated piece like this sounds best with a simple arrangement.
MC: I think this might have been the MC where she talked about the sky and taking lots of pictures. She loves watching the sky, the sun and the trees. How the position of the sun changes the entire scenery, how the strength of the wind puts everything in motion. She wants everyone to get a feel for the summer wind so for her cover corner she chose the song “Kaze ni Naritai” as intro. She thinks it’s a perfect song for the season.
07.風になりたい | Kaze ni Naritai ❇Cover (original by THE BOOM) Probably the most quirky and laid back performance of the night. A feel-good song if there ever was one. Everyone had a blast. Wakana was so hyper and she was dancing around like a little girl. She got the audience to clap along, it was a ton of fun. I didn’t expect to like this song so much because I wasn’t really impressed with the original when I listened to it on youtube but boy, Wakana truly worked her magic, I was mesmerised, it felt like we were all at the beach. Throughout the song she used a small rattle and let me tell you, she took the shaking seriously. Can’t wait for everyone to watch this performance on DVD/BD.Vocally this song wasn’t outstanding or anything, it was just about having fun.
MC: Next up she talks about how there are so many artists she admires and she decided early on that she wanted to sing some of their songs during her lives. Last year during her autumn tour she already sang a song by Spitz (they are among her favourite bands) so for this tour she KNEW that she wanted to sing another Spitz song. This time she chose Hotaru which is one of her all-time favourite songs.
08.ホタル | Hotaru ❇Cover (original by Spitz) Ever since Wakana had mentioned in an interview that she would love to sing this song together with the lead singer of Spitz one day, I have been in love with it. I watched the original on Youtube and was immediately smitten by Masamune Kusano’s voice. Wakana uses a very similar style to sing the song, it’s very intense and soulful. The arrangement is also pretty much the same. Just imagine the original being sung by Wakana and you will know what to expect.
MC: This MC was pretty long and quite different at the Tokyo and Fukuoka live, I fear I might mix up things a little. Here she talks a lot about loving Miyuki Nakajima. Last time she sang “Ito” and this time she is gonna sing “Jidai”, a song that has left a huge impression on her. She used to sing it as a young girl but back then she didn’t understand the meaning of the lyrics (find the English lyrics HERE). She just sang it because she liked the melody. As she became older, the lyrics gradually started to make sense and now it’s so much more powerful. Wakana says that as time goes by so many things happen, everything changes, steadily we learn to love new things, we say goodbye to old things. At the Tokyo live she tried to recite a part of the lyrics but for some reason she couldn’t remember the lines in the heat of the moment. She was standing there, flustered, trying to remember the lines. Not a single word came out of her mouth though. She looked at the ceiling looking for a hint but obviously there was none, the pianist even started playing a few tones so Wakana would remember but nope, it didn’t happen. Eventually Wakana gave up and just decided to sing the song. I hope they keep that part in the DVD/BD.
09.時代 | Jidai ❇Cover (orignal by Miyuki Nakajima) Absolutely breathtaking, I LOVE this song so much, I understand why Wakana is such a big fan of it. And really, Wakana sings it perfectly. This is the kind of song that was MADE for her. It was a very emotional performance for everyone because we all had to think of Kalafina parting ways and Wakana taking a new path.
10.水の証 | Mizu no Akashi I was so happy to hear her perform this live since it’s literally one of her oldest songs. I have never attended a YK live so last year during Wakana’s symphony concert, I got to listen to it for the first time. I was mesmerised back then and I was just as charmed this time around. I feel like Wakana is getting better and better at performing this song. She literally sounded like old-school Wakana. After the song had ended, Wakana took a small bow and walked off. Since the music was still playing there was no applause.
~ Mizu no Akashi inst ~  (dress change): The instrumental started out quite slow and quiet. Steadily it became more up-beat and epic, basically like one of YK’s typical instrumental pieces. I liked it quite a bit but I wasn’t blown away. Not sure if Satoshi Takebe arranged this or if the musicians improvised, either way, it was a nice little transition. They then played a little intro for Tsubasa that reminded me a lot of the beginning of “the battle is to the strong”. That was pretty epic. Wakana came on stage wearing her heavily patterned dress. I personally liked it a lot because the cut of this dress was much more flattering than the previous one. Plus, we got some Waka-collarbones and in my book that’s always a bonus.
11.翼 | Tsubasa I am really sad that Wakana doesn’t perform the song like she did on the music program Bokura no Ongaku (CLICK ME). That rendition had so much edge, she was literally growling some of her lines. Something we have never really seen from her before and certainly a welcome change. Ahhh, that was such a powerful performance. Alas, for this tour Wakana has decided to sing the song in a manner that’s quite similar to the studio version (comparable to the version we got from the Odaiba Venus Fort release event). Wakana does well, she sounds good, there’s no doubt that it is a great performance BUT there is a lack of “oomph” if you know what I mean. Her expressions and gestures also aren’t as passionate as they were in that music show. But hey, it’s fine. Perfectly enjoyable performance.
MC: There was a short MC where she talked about wanting to enjoy the following song together with the audience. Once again she invited us to clap along. a few people got up from their seats.
12.君だけのステージ | Kimi Dake no Stage WOW!! Wakana was glowing in this one, the song radiates so much happiness. She had a smile on her face the entire time. I can’t remember the melody of the song but the chorus is super uplifting and cheerful. I hope we will get a single release in the future. I can understand why it’s not on the album though, it’s too up-beat I think, it wouldn’t have fit the overall vibe XD
MC: This is when the band introduction happened...I wonder if this was also where she asked the audience members about where they came from. At one point she asked everyone from Tokyo to raise their hand, then everyone who came to the live from another part of the country. And finally she asked everyone from overseas to raise their hand. OF COURSE I was raising my hand as fast as I could. I am kinda sad that she didn’t ask the same question at the Fukuoka live T_T
13.むすんでひらく | Musunde Hiraku Solid performance, perfect continuation of “Kimi Dake no Stage”. If I am not mistaken I think she struggled a bit with some of her notes...probably because of the faster tempo...Almost everyone stood up for this song and did the typical Kalafina hand/arm gesture. Not sure what to think of that actually. It’s like no one was invested in the live until she started singing a Kalafina song. Wakana had tried really hard to engage the audience during Kaze ni Naritai and Kimi Dake no Stage but you could tell people were holding back (for whatever reason). With the first note of “Musunde Hiraku” everyone literally jumped out of their seat. Kinda disrespectful if you ask me...maybe that’s just me reading too much into it but it didn’t sit well with me...
MC (Satoshi Takebe joins Wakana on stage): This part and the following two songs were Tokyo-exclusive. Wakana asked everyone to take a seat again and introduced Satoshi Takebe. She talked a bit about him being the producer of her previous and current tour, about him being awfully busy (they didn’t even have time to rehearse together!). He then says a few nice things about Wakana and apologises for talking too much. Wakana tells him it’s totally fine, she has been talking all evening and is happy someone else is taking over. She was like, “please keep talking so I don’t have to talk!” XD Satoshi Takebe explains that they decided to perform two songs together, the first one being a song that Wakana has always wanted to sing at a concert, she has been singing it so often at karaoke. The second one being a song Satoshi Takebe has always wanted to try and play.
14. ハナミズキ | Hanamizuki ❇Cover (original by Yō Hitoto) Sorry, can’t say anything about this. I hadn’t known that song prior to this performance and tbh, it didn’t really stand out. I thought it was quite boring tbh…But maybe that’s just me being overly-critical and me not having read the lyrics. I am always having a hard time judging songs that I have only listened to once. I am not able to take in everything the first time. Plus, at that point I was fighting a battle with exhaustion. I had arrived in Japan that morning and didn’t get any sleep on the plane. I kinda wish she would have sung this in Fukuoka too because there I would have been able to appreciate it more. I have basically no memory of it so it’s hard for me to write a proper review. Wakana definitely sounded good but I don’t think it was a very challenging song...or maybe it was? Ughhh, sorry, I fail...
15. oblivious I have never been a big fan of “oblivious” to begin with and this new arrangement doesn’t really do anything to improve my opinion of it. Wakana performed a similar version during her symphony concert, it’s just a bit more up-beat now. They pretty much removed all the “oooohh-ing” parts so Wakana is only singing the verses and chorus. Just at the very end Wakana is doing a bit of “oooh-ing” but she chose to do it with a very thin and breathy voice. Not sure why because she could have definitely sung it with a fuller and more “operatic” voice. Personally I feel like without the operatic style “ooooh-ing” the song isn’t all that special. I guess you will all have to judge for yourself. Those who love “oblivious” might find something to like here too.
MC: Here she talks about time and clocks, pretty much the same thing she has been talking about in many of her interview. Time is the theme of quite a lot of her album tracks, she is generally very fascinated by time.
16.僕の心の時計 | Boku no Kokoro no Tokei A touching performance. One of my favourites actually, didn’t expect to like it so much. Her vocals were lovely here, especially towards the end. Can’t really say anything else about it.
17.時を越える夜に | Toki wo Koeru Yoru ni Unlike most people, I have loved this song from the get-go. I think it’s a beautiful ballad and I could listen to it all day. BUT the band really ruined this performance for me. Okay, maybe “ruined” isn’t the right word, there was still some enjoyment to be found, Wakana’s vocals were on point after all but it just wasn’t what I had hoped for. As I mentioned at the beginning of this report, the bass was super obnoxious during the chorus. It was totally out of place. I hope they can work some studio magic to make it sound better on DVD/BD. Or maybe it was just my personal perception and other people liked it...???
MC: Wakana says that this is the final song of her concert *fake news XD* and thanks everyone for coming.
18.金木犀 | Kinmokusei Ahhhh! A beautiful and solid performance, nothing more to say about it. I was already smitten with the studio version so Wakana didn’t really have to do anything to convince me to fall in love with the live version.
~EN ~ Wakana left the stage and people started doing the usual clapping for an encore. They didn’t do the typical “encore” chanting. The band returned and the pianist started to play with a sort of organ setting. It sounded very epic. Wakana comes on stage wearing her album cover dress. The sleeves were altered slightly, instead of long sleeves she now has the fabric flow freely around her arms. It’s a very good look on her, she literally looks like an angel. She has some accessories in her hair that look a lot like the ones she used for the 10th Anniversary Live.
19.ひかりふる | Hikari Furu I think this performance will be quite polarising. Some will love it, others will hate it. Personally, I really loved it because Wakana sounded great. Yes, Keiko and Hikaru are missed dearly and a couple of their essential lines (e.g. “hikari no naka”) were left out but nonetheless, Wakana did an amazing job (especially during the climax). As I mentioned before, the song starts with some sort of organ-style playing by the piano and Wakana’s angelic singing. As the song progresses the other instruments join in, the arrangement sounds quite dramatic. For some reason I was reminded of Queen’s music (probably because I had just watched the movie Bohemian Rhapsody on the plane). Wakana sings as many of Keiko’s and Hikaru’s lines as possible and she really does them justice. She doesn’t necessarily try to imitate their singing style, her “mabushii asa” for example sounds totally different than Keiko’s. Overall I am very happy that she decided to sing this song, it was definitely one of the highlights of this live. I guess everyone has to decide for themselves whether or not they like this new arrangement.
MC: Here Wakana talks about the final song of her album. During the Tokyo live she explains that this song is very special because it showcases the power of lyrics. The melody is cute and playful but that’s actually quite misleading because the topic of the song is profound and sad. She also mentions that the song was composed by Shusui and another Swedish composer who she had first met more than a decade ago when she was still in her teens.I think she might have only sad that at the Fukuoka live, not sure o.O
20.愛の花 | Ai no Hana Hands down my favourite song of the album and probably my favourite performance of those two nights. I don’t know what it is about this song but I am just so freaking in love with it. I guess it’s just like Wakana said in the MC, the juxtaposition of the sweet melody and the tragic lyrics makes “Ai no Hana” so precious. There are so many emotions combined in this song. Tragedy, sadness, joy and hope, they all come together to create a beautiful song. Wakana sounds like an angel, especially after the second chorus when she does her “ooohhh-ing”. The live version is SO MUCH better than the studio version. Her high notes are gorgeous. The end of the song is also improved quite a bit because it doesn’t end so abruptly after the final chorus. The chorus is repeated a second time (starting from “kōri mo tokasu ai no hana) which adds a lovely climax.
MC: Wakana thanks everyone and once again introduces the band members. One by one they start leaving the stage until only the pianist is left. Wakana says that she wants to sing one final song accompanied by just the piano. The song is written by Satoshi Takebe and it means a lot to her. The past year has been filled with lots of emotions, there has been sadness, pain and joy, she has made so many new experiences, she has worked really hard on writing all these lyrics. Every time she stands on stage she knows it’s all worth it. She was born to sing, she wants to keep on singing, she wants to deliver her songs to an audience. She has put all these feelings into the lyrics of the next song.
21.あとひとつ | Ato Hitotsu So simple and yet so beautiful. I think for most of you who are not really fans of slow ballads the song will be too boring. For me personally, it was love at first listen. The melody of the chorus is still stuck in my head. I wonder if we'll ever get a release for this song. I really hope so! It would go perfectly with “Kimi Dake no Stage” - topic wise I mean. And it would make a lovely B-side. This is just about Wakana declaring her love for singing and performing, about being herself, about treasuring the moment, about following her dreams. I don’t remember everything but the lyrics are so sweet, I honestly couldn’t help but cry.
Final greeting: Wakana walked from side to side saying a few parting words. In Fukuoka she started crying, it was so precious. First she only teared up a little but then she kept talking and the tears were just flowing down her face. She didn’t really say anything special, just the usual stuff (so happy to be back home, to be welcomed so warmy, etc). She can’t wait to be back, there will be many more tours (she made it sound like another tour was already in the making, there was no official announcement though).

Halo 3 Review
Halo 3 is probably the most popular game in the long running Halo Franchise. It was a system seller for the Xbox 360 and for many people, it was their gateway into the series. So while Halo 3 has managed to craft this legendary status around itself. Does it live up to it? And, looking back over 10 years since its launch, has it held up compared to modern games. These are the questions I intend to answer as I take a look back at the heavy hitting title of 2007 and give my honest opinions of it.
Starting with the story, we have to talk about the fact that Halo 2 was originally going to be the end of the franchise, and that Halo 3 only came about because Bungie set their sights too high and had to end Halo 2 on a cliffhanger. Because of this, Halo 3 has to both tell its own story, as well as finishing off Halo 2's. Halo 3 is comprised of 10 missions, though one is just a cutscene and doesn't really count. So all in all there are 9 missions in the game, making it somewhat shorter than Halo 2. The big issue for me when it comes to Halo 3's campaign is the pacing, or lack of it. The story goes nowhere for 6 out of the 9 missions, preferring to faff about on Earth. These 6 missions are what I believe to be the way Bungie were going to finish Halo 2, or how they were retro-actively ending Halo 2 at least. Specifically Mission 5 is where I believe the ending for Halo 2 would have been. Mission 6 has lots of problems of its own that need to be brought up. To sum it up, in Mission 6, the Flood arrives at Earth on an infected Covenant Battle-cruiser. Long time fans of the Halo series will know the Flood as the all consuming parasite responsible for wiping out the Forerunners, and who took over High Charity (The Covenants Holy City) at the end of Halo 2. So this is a pretty big deal. On board the Flood infested ship, Master Chief finds a message from Cortana talking about the Ark, this is the beginning of the issues. Cortana didn't know about the Ark, she wasn't with Johnson and Miranda when 343 Guilty Spark revealed its existence to them, so how could she have found out about it? One option could be that she took it from the database of Installation 04, but if so why didn't she tell anyone about it? It would seem like a pretty big deal to me, especially when there's a portal to it on Earth that she seems to know about as well. Secondly, how did she even get the message on the ship in the first place? She was on High Charity, the message is on a physical storage device. Did she create it and put it on the back of a Flood to carry into the vessel? And when & how did she record it without the Gravemind knowing? She was being interrogated by him after all and we know how it can corrupt AIs. The threat at the start of the mission, the Flood is also dispatched by the Covenant at the end, meaning the stakes for Earth are pretty much over. The Covenant have left and the Flood on the planet are dead. This mission also introduces us to a new plot point. According to Cortana, there's a way to stop the Flood for good at the Ark, without having to fire the remaining Halo rings, a Forerunner weapon that perhaps, wasn't finished in time to save them, but could save us. Unfortunatly, Halo 3 immediatley drops this plot point, making the entirety of mission 6, pointless. The plot point leads no-where and the threat introduced at the start of the level, is gone by the end of it. It feels like the remainder of some earlier draft of the story, one that I would have liked to see for sure.
As so much time is spent at Earth, it means by the time the game actually gets to the Ark, there's only 4 missions left in the campaign. This doesn't give you a lot of time to really explore the ark, like you could explore the ring in Halo CE. 2 missions in on the Ark and the Prophet of Truth is dead, killed in a cutscene like the Prophet of Mercy before him. This is so that the game can say 'Aha! The Gravemind is actually the true villain!' as he betrays you just after helping you reach Truth. The trouble is the game only has 2 missions left at this point, and in only one of them do you actually interact with the Gravemind to any large degree. His betrayal is also somewhat odd, his tentacles raise up above Master Chief and the Arbiter as he talks about how he's going to kill everything, then fails to grab a slow moving Pelican Dropship as it escapes, only succeding at knocking Arby and Chief off of it before having his tentacles retreat and sending waves of combat forms to attack you, basically it builds up a boss fight and then nothing happens, you just trudge back through the same hallway you fought through not 5 minutes earlier, only now you're fighting the Flood. The mission after that has you delve into the Flood nest in order to retrieve Cortana. The mission itself looks great, the flood biomass over the walls really gives you an idea of what could happen if the flood gets loose. The level layout is extremely confusing and you may find yourself dying a lot as there are constantly spawning enemies including many Flood Pureforms, alongside the confusing layout, you may find it to be an exercise in frustration. This level also serves to rob the Flood of some of their menace. Looking at it lore wise, Master Chief just walked into the belly of the beast, grabbed his holographic friend had a quick chat with her and then strolled back out again. The Flood don't even seem to do anything to stop the damaged pelican he escapes on from leaving. It makes them seem incompetant. The final mission of the game has you heading to a Halo Ring, the intent being to fire it to kill the Flood infestation. This actually conflicts with what we were told in Halo CE, that the Halos don't kill the Flood, they kill its food and let it starve to death. You fight through more Combat Forms and the gravemind taunts you a little, then you get to the final chamber. Guilty Spark informs us that the ring isn't ready to fire, and that it'll take a few more days before it's ready. When Johnson informs him that they don't have that much time, Spark goes rampant and kills him, this had been foreshadowed earlier when Spark zapped a marine who wanted to check out his internals, to make sure he was functioning right, but anyone who had played from Halo CE could probably see this betrayal coming a mile off. You then have to go through an easy and boring boss fight against Guilty Spark before you can finally activate the Halo ring, as the ring is unfinished it starts falling apart, destroying itself and dealing massive damage to the Ark. Which conveniantly solves that plot hole of the Rings only killing the Floods food. This leads to the final section of the game, a Warthog run similar to the one from Combat Evolved, though not as fun. And then the campaign ends. It's a bit sudden, and they of course tease that the franchise will be continued in the future (Which it was, with Halo 4)
Now that I've finished talking about the single player, I can move onto the multiplayer. This is what most people will remember when it comes to Halo 3, as it had a massive online community back when it was released. Halo 3 offered a good range of game-modes for the player to enjoy and a wide range of maps to play on, though you may find people vetoing maps until they get the ones they want, which means you'll find yourself playing on Valhalla or Guardian a lot for instance. The weapon sandbox has been expanded from Halo 2, now new Brute weapons are in the mix as well. Unfortunatly, there's not much reason to use them. There's not a lot that sets the Spiker apart from the SMG for instance, or the Mauler from the Shotgun. The Gravity Hammer is a fun new power weapon that rivals the Energy Sword and I think it's an excellent addition to the game. Two new grenade types have been added as well, the Fire-bomb grenade and the Spike Grenade. The Fire-bomb is what it says on the tin, an incendiary grenade that burns the person it hits to death. The Spike Grenade is similar in some ways to the Plasma Grenade, it sticks onto a vehicles or surface and explodes, the difference being that the Spike Grenade is somewhat directional. Like the Fire-bomb, it's a one hit kill. Some new vehicles have also been added to the mix. The UNSC gets the Hornet VTOL and the Mongoose ATV. The Covenant lose the Spectre from Halo 2, but gain the Brute Chopper and Prowler. The Chopper is the Brute equivelant to the Ghost, only has the special ability of being able to destroy light vehicles by ramming into them whilst boosting, which is usefel in game-modes like Capture the Flag, if the enemy team is escaping with the flag in a Warthog. The Prowler on the other hand is pretty much just the Spectre, but with a Brute theme. It has a single turret on the front, rather than the rear and two side skirts for passengers to hold on. Aside from that, there's nothing else unique about it, as I said; it's a Spectre with a Brute skin. Halo 3 was also popular for Major League Gaming at first. Though there were some noticable problems for those ultra competitve players. Halo 3's netcode was a little poor, this made blood-shots (Shots that hit the enemy from your perspective, but don't register in the game, and so do no damage) rather common, which annoyed a lot of competitive players. Halo 3 also did not utilize hitscan like the previous games in the series had, rather players had to lead shots if they wanted them to land. This took a bit of getting used to for a lot of veteren players. The Battle Rifle also had some poor weapon spread as it would seem as though one shot was always going to miss, unless you were right in your enemies face. The Assault Rifle also felt a little weak as well. This may in part be due to the sound design used on the weapons, which I felt was a little sub-par in a lot of ways. Another new feature that was added in Halo 3 was Forge mode, that let people edit maps by adding in new weapons of vehicles or items and the like wherever they wanted. The mode was a bit simplistic but I won't count that against the game here as it was the first instance of the feature and what players did with it far exceeded their expectations.
Overall I'd say Halo 3 is a pretty solid game, despite what may appear as my hatred for it, I do actually like the game. But its multiplayer far outdoes its campaign. Halo 3 is an old game now, going on 11 years old. You'll find the population for online is rather low, struggling to get above 2000 people at the best of times. This is compounded by the fact the player base is split across the Master Chief collection, Halo 3 on Xbox One backwards compatibility and those still playing the game on the Xbox 360. There are some issues with the multiplayer netcode, but if you're just playing casually, then you probably won't notice too many issues. While the weapon sandbox is a little dull, it's not too bad and there's a nice variety between the weapons. The campaigns story is quite bad but you'll probably have a lot of fun with the missions themselves, the scarab fights are quite fun (even if they make the scarab feel like a bit of a pathetic miniboss) and the settings are somewhat diverse. Halo 3 is available on the Xbox 360, as a backwards compatible title on the Xbox One and is also in the Masterchief Collection. If you would like to purchase a copy, then follow the link below:
