[ad_1] India to host the 2036 Olympics and Paralympics (PC: Olympic Council of Asia) India wanting to host the 2036 Olympics and Paralympics is a realistic dream. For those who wake up to the Olympics every four years and say a country with a population well in excess of a billion can win only a few medals, the mentality is different. Sadly, this mentality reflects the lack of a sporting culture in India. It also brings to the fore pessimism, since India have not won medals in bulk at a single edition of the Olympics. If that is the yardstick, does winning 29 medals in the Paris 2024 Paralympics not mean anything? It does, for these champions have battled against the odds to win medals. Thankfully, though, the awareness is increasing. More efforts are being made to provide ramps, treat para-athletes at par. Last week, there was a great photo of Paralympian Deepa Malik at the wheels of a SUV. The vehicle was designed especially for her, keeping in mind her medical condition. And the message which Deepa had posted was so emotional. Today, India is not just another country in the world. It is developing, in a real sense. The letter written to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president PT Usha is worded in such a way which captures the essence of why India wishes to host the Summer Games. There is mention of culture, diversity, different religions (faith) and how India will receive the athletes and officials as guests. The Sanskrit phrase ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbam’ means the world is one family, and that has been used as a catchphrase to attract the IOC. To be sure, the IOC has not laughed at India’s interest in hosting the 2036 Games. There are many more countries in fray, Indonesia included. Why this becomes important is, Indonesia is also part of Asia, so two nations from the same region competing is good news. It is healthy competition. As for India, the country is on the right track. For the Latest Sports News: Click Here PT Usha and Indian Olympics (PC: X) At the start of 2024, there may have been instability in the minds of many, as the General Election was approaching. Now that the elections are over, there has been a strong push that India expresses interest to host the 2036 Olympics. The message has come from the highest office that India (IOA) should write to the IOC. There is no ambiguity in it. Indeed, India expressing interest to host the Olympics also means a host city has to be mentioned, officially. Unofficially, everyone knows, including nations abroad, Ahmedabad is the likely host city. Way back in 2021, when the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad had been redeveloped, there was a buzz that the city could host the Olympics. For those who say a ‘dry state’ cannot host an Olympics, that would be a lame excuse. Doha hosted the 2022 FIFA World Cup and a famous beer brand was not allowed to advertise near the stadia. It led to a furore as the company had coughed up big money. This, though, will be the least of the problems, should Ahmedabad and perhaps even one more city be chosen to host the 2036 Olympics. While Ahmedabad will be the main centre, another city could host a few events. There has been constant chatter, hosting an Olympics means huge losses and a drain on the economy. The letter from the IOA has talked of “job creation” and a young population which will gain from hosting the Olympics. To think only the taxpayers’ money will be splurged on hosting the Olympics is wrong. Today, India has many corporates who are willing to back the bid as well, though names cannot be mentioned. There are real estate and infrastructure to be developed. It is only after thinking about costs and projected escalation, which always has to be factored, India has written to the IOC on the Olympic bid. If India wants to showcase itself as a capable host, why should it be mocked? So many big events have been hosted by India, and the Olympics can also happen. And if someone says the IOA is in turmoil, that is not going to be a real issue.
When London hosted the Olympics in 2012, Boris Johnson was the Mayor. Even he faced flak from the Americans. Yet, London hosted a good Olympics. Brazil in 2016 was in trouble due to political turmoil and corruption. Surely, the forecast for India in the future is good. And the Games will capture the country’s ethos, as mentioned in the letter written to the IOC. India used car loan market size at USD 7.72 billion in 2021. And BlueWeave expects India used car loan market size to grow at a CAGR of 12.1% during the forecast period (2021–2028), reaching the value of USD 17.2 billion by 2028.In India, the second hand automobile market has been gaining traction in recent years. The ratio of used to new cars is currently approximately 1.3 in the country. The expansion of the organized and semi-organized sectors can be ascribed to the evolution of the country's used automobiles market. In addition, the reduction in the GST rate on used cars from 28% to 12–18% is driving the market. As the Indian auto industry transitions to BS-VI in April 2020, the value proposition of a used automobile is expected to improve, as new cars are expected to become more expensive due to increased technology expenditures. Major automobile manufacturers are also steadily focusing on reducing diesel car production.
India Used Car Loan Market - Technology Advancements
Unless there is a backlash against diesel automobiles, it is also expected to raise demand for compact diesel cars in the used car market (because of their higher mileage estimates). Mahindra First Choice Wheels Limited invested in CarandBike.com, a renowned Indian automobile website, in January 2020. Cars24 concluded a series D equity financing of roughly USD 100 million in October 2019 from new and existing investors. Maruti Suzuki India relaunched its True Value brand in February 2019 with a new identity and incentives. OLX has been a market leader in this area. In 2019, OLX partnered with the Frontier Group to open used automobile dealerships on the ground (Cash my Car). Cash my Car locations are now available in ten cities. OLX intended to further expand its. Over the forecast period, major players’ plan to develop offline outlets is expected to grow the market for unorganized used car sales.
Rising Demand for Pre-Owned Cars
The Indian pre-owned car market is expanding as demand for premium vehicles continues to rise. The sales of second hand premium cars have increased by 20%. The market's expected expansion can be linked to rising disposable income and an increase in the number of people who buy used cars. Used car loans are available for a variety of automobiles, including hatchbacks, SUVs, and premium sedans. They are dominating the used car loan market by giving loans up to 95% of the used car value, flexible EMI repayment options, swift loan disbursement, flexible tenure, and low paperwork.
With easier access to financing alternatives, annual maintenance contracts, and cheaper entry pricing, the India Used Car Loan industry is becoming more organized.

Renault Kiger: One of the Most Practical SUVs in the Market
Source – Business Upside India
The greatest options for individuals who are eager to trade in their hatchback for a larger car that would help them realise their dream of owning a luxury car eventually are sub-compact SUVs. Among the many options in the sub-compact SUV segment, the Renault Kiger holds a prominent position. Its attractive appearance won over vehicle enthusiasts when it was introduced in February 2021. The car's well-balanced size, crisp lines, and pleasant driving position have done wonders for the French automaker, which sold over 50,000 cars until August 2022. In fact, the figure is far greater now because SUVs continue to excite auto aficionados, who have no problem adding one to their fleet without giving it a second thought.
Renault Kiger – a New Avatar of Kwid
When it comes to cars, appearances are everything since they make a powerful first impression, which helps win half the war. And in this sense, the Kiger checks all the appropriate boxes. It appears to be the greatest car in the sub-4-meter small SUV class. Due to the remarkable growth of this segment in India, all automobile manufacturers, both domestic and foreign, are vying for market share. At least six automakers advertise their SUVs in an attempt to differentiate themselves from the competition and win over buyers.

Mahindra New Cars: Everything You Need to Know
Introduction:
With the Scorpio-N, Mahindra has surpassed all other SUV manufacturers in India. Yet, the influx of new Mahindra vehicles is still ongoing. A detailed list of the Mahindra lineup for 2023 and 2024 can be found here.
1. Mahindra XUV400 EV:
The first of many Mahindra New Cars scheduled for that year, the XUV400, would be made available by Mahindra in January 2023. There is more to Mahindra's upcoming electric vehicle in India than just a plug-in XUV300. Both in terms of size and power, it is more substantial. A Li-ion battery with a 39.4 kilowatt-hour capacity powers one motor.
Maximum horsepower and torque are rated at 147.5 hp and 310 Nm, respectively. The electric SUV can reach up to 150 kilometers per hour and can cover an acceleration distance of 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 8.3 seconds.
A fully charged Mahindra XUV400 has a maximum range that has been validated by ARAI of 456 kilometres. The Mahindra New Vehicles will compete in the market for electric vehicles, just like the Tata Nexon EV. It can be charged to 100% using a 50 kW DC fast charger in 50 minutes, but it will take 6 hours and 30 minutes to reach 80% using a 7.2 kW/32A outlet. Three distinct "driving modes" for the forthcoming electric Vehicle will either extend range or speed. Having fun, moving rapidly, and not being afraid of the unknown are a few of these traits. Some of the highlights include six airbags, a sunroof, a 7-inch touchscreen entertainment system, a rear-view camera, and more than 60 different networking options.
2. Mahindra eKUV100:
The Mahindra KUV100 will replace the KUV90, a B1-segment hatchback with SUV styling that was discontinued due to poor sales. Mahindra now seems poised to give the KUV100 new life by turning its slowly selling vehicle into an electric vehicle (EV).
3. Mahindra Thar 5-Door:
The Scorpio and Bolero, two of Mahindra's best-known off-road vehicles, have a reputation for dependability and toughness. The Thar, however, distinguishes out from the competition in terms of both performance and looks. The new Thar has been one of India's most well-liked vehicles since its release. Sometime around 2023, the new Thar 5-Door variant will be available. The 2.0L Turbo-petrol and 2.2L diesel engines in the current Thar 5-Door may or may not receive an improved tune, but you anticipate they will be retained.
4. Mahindra XUV Aero:
The Mahindra XUV Aero first debuted at the 2016 Auto Expo. Mahindra eventually abandoned the idea in favor of the XUV700 and the Scorpio-N. Therefore, the design was never put into production. However, the crossover SUV may be released by the end of 2023. While the XUV Aero concept looks like the Mahindra XUV 500, the production model may take design cues from the XUV700 and the Born Electric idea. The coupe-crossover body design will continue to be used.
5. Mahindra XUVe8 (XUV700 EV):
Even though the Mahindra XUV700 has already achieved remarkable success, the company is working on a new version of its best-selling flagship model. The Mahindra XUV700 EV, which is slated to be on sale in India by the end of 2019, has the potential to be the country's first fully electric sport utility vehicle. The new model will have the same high-end features as the XUV700 AX7L. Digital gauge cluster, automatic dual-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof, 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, and a 360-degree camera just a few of the goodies that come standard on this particular model.
6. Mahindra Bolero Neo Plus:
Mahindra reintroduced the TUV300, this time as the Bolero Neo, in July 2021. Since the Mahindra New Cars release, it has been widely expected that the larger TUV300 Plus will be phased out in favor of the Bolero Neo Plus. It is now anticipated that the same will debut in the first quarter of 2023. The huge SUV may be had with as many as nine seats, making it a tough people carrier. The Bolero Neo Plus should have a refined version of the dependable 2.2L diesel engine seen in the Scorpio Classic under the hood. The powerplant will be paired with a standard 6-speed manual gearbox.

Bridgestone presents sustainable car tires made from recycled material
Recycled plastic, steel and carbon black, vegetable oil and resin, more sustainable rubber… The new car tire from the Japanese Bridgestone[1] is full of sustainable innovations. It consists of 37 percent recycled material, 38 percent renewable material and will be prepared for the market this year.
Bridgestone has now produced two hundred copies of the sustainable car tire. And they have also been extensively tested. Cooperation is currently being sought with car manufacturers to apply the car tires to electric SUVs and CUVs.
Recycled and renewable material
The tire consists of various recycled materials, such as plastic, steel and carbon black (a powder that makes tires black and wear-resistant, among other things). The new rubber left in the tires is made from the desert plant guayule[2], which is grown on American soil. This also brings sustainable benefits. The natural rubber of guayule serves as an alternative to the rubber of the Brazilian rubber tree, which mainly grows in Southeast Asia. In other words: the import of rubber is declining. In addition, guayule needs fifty percent less water to grow.
Bridgestone also has follow-up ambitions. In 2050, the company wants to use only sustainable materials in its car tires. It is currently working on a tire for passenger cars that consists of 90 percent recycled and renewable materials.
Recycle car tires
Car tires have a significant impact on the environment, especially after their service life. Every year, more than a billion car tires end up in landfill[3] and the vast majority of them are incinerated. This is accompanied by a lot of CO2 emissions, because current car tires consist largely of fossil raw materials.
It is therefore not only important that car tires increasingly consist of recycled and renewable materials, but also that they are recycled more often. The Dutch Black Bear Carbon[4] has a solution for this and has since grown into an international player. The company (based on the Chemelot industrial cluster) is able to recover the carbon black from used car tyres, a powder that is normally produced in a polluting manner, by burning heavy petroleum fractions.

The name Bridgestone comes from a calque translation and transposition of ishibashi (石橋), meaning 'stone bridge' in Japanese. As of 2021, Bridgestone is the largest manufacturer of tires in the world, followed by Michelin in France, Goodyear in the United States, MRF in India, Continental in Germany and Pirelli in Italy. Bridgestone Group has 181 production facilities in 24 countries as of July 2018.
[2] Parthenium argentatum, commonly known as the guayule, is a perennial woody shrub in the family Asteraceae that is native to the rangeland area of the Chihuahuan Desert; including the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. It was first documented by J.M. Bigelow in 1852 through the Mexican Boundary Survey and was first described by Asa Gray. Natural rubber, ethanol, non-toxic adhesives, and other specialty chemicals can be extracted from guayule. An alternative source of latex that is hypoallergenic, unlike the normal Hevea rubber, can also be extracted. While Castilla elastica was the most widely used rubber source of Mesoamericans in pre-Columbian times, guayule was also used, though less frequently. The name "guayule" derives from the Nahuatl word ulli/olli, "rubber".

Mahindra XUV700 Launched In South Africa
Winner of the ‘Safer Choice’ award from Global NCAP in 2021. The new Mahindra XUV700 SUV is in South Africa!
Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd took the wraps off the all-new XUV700 (pronounced as XUV, 7 double ‘Oh’) in South Africa.
The Mahindra XUV700 has beaten all records since its India launch in August 2021, raising the bar with its spirited performance, world-class safety features and unmissable presence. This powerhouse of an SUV is passionately engineered to dial-up adrenaline like never before. The XUV700 will come in three variants, all fitted with a 2.0-litre petrol-turbo engine and a smooth six-speed automatic transmission.
Unveiled in June to audiences around South Africa, the XUV700 is now available to test drive and buy across Mahindra’s entire dealer network. The XUV700 displays the new ‘Twin Peaks’ logo representing the bold new direction Mahindra has embarked on with new-age products that have been designed to deliver a new-age ownership experience.
The Mahindra XUV700 won the coveted Indian Car of the Year (ICOTY). The ICOTY symbolises value for money, reliability, design, tech innovation, fuel efficiency, driving appeal and suitability for the Indian market. In addition, it has won over 40 other awards in India for its combination of ‘sci-fi’ technology, spirited performance, and world-class safety systems.
Rajesh Gupta, CEO of Mahindra South Africa said: “The XUV700 heralds an entirely new range of Mahindra models that will arrive in the next six months. As the first model to carry our new Twin Peaks logo, it is also the first Mahindra SUV that welcomes an entirely new phase for the brand. Mahindra shared its vision for South Africa at the global reveal in June, promising a new era for the brand with a significantly elevated customer experience and an even-larger network of servicing dealers. In South Africa, the XUV700 is also our invitation to our Mahindra family to head out and explore the world around them. With its power and capabilities, the XUV700 allows every family to explore their active living.”
MAHINDRA XUV700

Packing an unmissable presence, tough yet sophisticated experience, spirited performance, world-class safety and sci-fi technology, the disruptive XUV700 is set to redefine the benchmarks.
The striking front grille with the new Twin Peaks logo takes pride of place.
The authentic SUV stance and the wide track hint at performance ably supported by the overall vehicle dynamics.
XUV700 has LED Clear-view Headlamps with Automatic Boosting, LED daytime running lights and LED sequential indicators. At the rear, the arrow-tip tail lights utilise LED technology, with an additional high-level LED brake lamp.

Prominent wheel haunches above the arches, especially at the rear help achieve a sporty stance, making the XUV700 look fast even while standing still.
TOUGH YET SOPHISTICATED
New from the ground up, the XUV700 underpins a completely new platform for the brand that has set the direction for the SUVs of tomorrow, with advanced engineering, the latest technology and impeccable craftsmanship. The body makes use of enhanced high-tensile and ultra-high tensile steels that increase the toughness and torsional rigidity while reducing the overall weight of the vehicle, contributing to reduced fuel consumption.
The all-independent suspension set-up of the XUV700 was developed with varied road surfaces in mind.
XUV700 offers best-in-class performance through multi-link suspension with a stabiliser bar & FSD (Frequency Selective Damping) technology.
While superior ride comfort is guaranteed, it also provides unparalleled dynamic capabilities in tune with the performance on offer.
MAHINDRA SPIRITED PERFORMANCE
At the heart of the XUV700, Mahindra has fitted a 2.0 mStallion turbo-petrol engine, delivering exhilarating performance, 149 kW at 5000 rpm and class-leading torque of 380 Nm available in full from 1 750 rpm that brings a rush like never before. This engine provides refined motoring and linear power delivery.
All versions of the XUV700 are fitted with Mahindra’s smooth-shifting 6-speed automatic transmission. This transmission was remapped to perfectly match the power profile of the petrol engine at South African cruising speeds.
SCI-FI TECHNOLOGY
The XUV700, the first of a new generation of SUVs from Mahindra, comes packed with a whole lot of features.
The new Mahindra Super screen – a combination of two high-definition 26 cm digital screens for the digital cluster and infotainment systems – takes pride of place in the Mahindra XUV700 cabin. The UI on these screens is highly customisable and allows for a detailed view of vehicle information.
All three variants of the XUV700 in South Africa are fitted with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which allow for a seamless connection with any smartphone. This also allows the driver to interact with his/her smartphone via the large infotainment screen and uses voice commands through Android auto and Apple car play.
Another treat across the entire XUV700 range is Mahindra’s SkyroofTM. This panoramic sunroof covers most of the passenger compartment and creates an airy and light ambience in the cabin.
Mahindra has partnered with SONY to customise the sound experience inside the XUV700. In the flagship AX7 L, the sound system is upgraded to a 12-speaker SONY system with fully immersive 3D sound. The AX7 L also treats its owner with wireless charging and fully automatic electronic door handles.
On the AX7 L, Mahindra has added a Blind View Monitor system as standard. It has also included four digital cameras, mounted in the nose, tailgate and side mirrors, for a 360-degree bird’s-eye view of the vehicle when manoeuvring or parking. This system can be set to continuously record while driving, negating the need for a traditional dashcam.
WORLD-CLASS SAFETY
Safety is one of the core pillars of the XUV700 experience, it incorporates many path-breaking safety features.
7 is a sign of perfection when it comes to the XUV700, with 7 airbags on the top variant; comprising of a driver and passenger front airbags, curtains across all three rows, side airbags and a driver knee airbag.
The AX7 versions of the XUV700 offer comprehensive Advanced Driving Assistance Systems (ADAS) as standard. These include Smart Pilot Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keep Assist and event Traffic Sign Recognition as standard.
All versions of the XUV700 also have the newest generation stability control as standard, and all models feature personalised safety alerts.

Safety on the AX7 range is further taken care of by the tyre pressure monitoring system, the additional reverse camera and an intelligent driver drowsiness detection system to warn a driver if his or her reactions start slowing down or if the driver’s face shows signs of drowsiness or of being distracted.
The AX7 L also has a Stop and Go driving function as part of its adaptive cruise control, allowing for stress-free driving in city traffic.
RANGE, COLOUR AND WARRANTY
Three models are available at launch, all fitted with the new 2.0-litre petrol-turbo engine and smooth six-speed automatic transmission.
Buyers can choose between Everest White, Midnight Black, Dazzling Silver, Red Rage and the global launch colour – Electric Blue.

Carbon emissions from global SUV fleet outweighs that of most countries
Popularity of sport utility vehicles driving higher oil demand and climate crisis, say experts
The continued global rise in sales of SUVs pushed their climate-heating emissions to almost 1bn tonnes of carbon dioxide in 2022, according to the International Energy Agency.
The 330m sport utility vehicles on the roads produced emissions equivalent to the combined national emissions of the UK and Germany last year. If SUVs were a country, they would rank as the sixth most polluting in the world.
Climate campaigners are increasingly concerned about the impact of SUVs. The activist group Tyre Extinguishers said it had deflated the tyres of hundreds of SUVs in Europe on Monday nightin the run-up to the first anniversary of its campaign.
The vehicles are larger and heavier than regular cars and use on average 20% more fuel. The increased number of SUVs in 2022 were responsible for a third of the increase in global oil demand.
Purchases of SUVs have soared in recent years, rising from 20% of new cars in 2012 to 46% of all cars last year, the IEA reports. The rise continued in 2022, includes significant growth in the US, India and Europe, despite the overall number of cars sold falling slightly.
About one in six SUVs sold in 2022 were electric. But the IEA experts said: “Electric SUVs are growing in popularity, but not quickly enough to offset the increasing oil consumption and emissions of the wider fleet.
“Electric SUVs also require larger batteries to power them, so a growing electric SUV market would impose additional pressure on battery supply chains and further increase demand for the critical minerals needed to make the batteries.”
Cities targeted by Tyre Extinguisher groups on Monday included London, Paris, Berlin and Milan. The activists claim to have deflated more than 10,000 tyres in the past year in 17 countries, including the US and New Zealand, using lentils to jam open air valves.
A spokesperson said: “Things were quiet over the winter but we are now emerging ready for another year of lentil-based action. We act because politicians will not take even baby steps to make our streets and climate safe. We won’t stop until these polluting vehicles are history.”
SUVs are starting to dominate the market as sales of conventional cars decline
Million vehicles sold a year
The Tyre Extinguishers said they wanted “bans on SUVs in urban areas, pollution levies to tax SUVs out of existence, and massive investment in free, comprehensive public transport”.
Electric car sales soared in 2022, the IEA said, rising by 60% from 2021 to more than 10m vehicles. However, 29m non-electric SUVs were sold.
Julia Poliscanova, senior director for vehicles and emobility at European campaign group Transport & Environment, said: “Carmakers are culling small cars in pursuit of profit. VW, Stellantis and BMW have all said they are moving towards selling fewer cars and focusing on more premium SUV models. But larger cars put more pressure on the planet.”
“For drivers, this means more expensive models and higher running costs, especially at a time of high energy prices,” she said. “Given the stakes, regulators should ensure European small cars don’t disappear. The best way is to tax big cars. Subsidies for electric cars should support entry-level EVs that are made in Europe.”
In 2021, the UK’s National Audit Office reported that rising sales of SUVs and an increase in road traffic had cancelled out reductions in CO2 emissions from electric car sales.
