Recently we've disovered that our disorganized speech + impulsive blurting out of words that may or may not be Appropriate are getting significantly worse, it's scaring us a bit but we have a solution for it! Possibly. Hopefully.
#neuro tag#sniff.txt#when we say the verbal paraphasia + displacement is getting bad its getting BAD.#the thought blocking and omission has always been bad so we aren't as worried about that

My atlas/occipital bone region feels absolutely awful tonight. I assume it’s the cold snap making my old chiro injury flare up but nothing I’m doing to ease it is working.
My skull is just sitting lopsided on top of my neck because of the scar tissue and I know it’s probably not visible but to me it feels like an inch long shiv has been wedged between my skull and vertebrae.
I need a new neck, please. One without bone spurs, spinal cord compression or any of the other shit that went wrong after it all went wrong.
#chronic health tag#tw body injury#the neuro science center reclassified my chiro injury as a tbi this month#and I sure feel some way about seeing that in my file

selfves semiverbal!!!! semiverbal because autistic, and because schizophrenic, and also physical pain + fatigue + weakness
selfves speak largely in scripts, didn't even realize how much relied on until one day learned huh. most people don't do that. have must script every. single. verbal thing that say
if someone initiate talk with us without giving us time to script and if not already have script that works, then will simply. not talk. words not happen. words not come out until able regain bearings and find pre-existing script that selfves have or able use AAC or typing to make script
words come out wrong and explaining really really hard. especially when having schizophrenic episode, words wrong order, and selfves speak sometimes solely in metaphors that not make sense others but selfves not understand how else to say
selfves have trouble putting words together properly, often tack on word to end in way that doesn't make sense, change word order, use punctuation also grammar incorrectly. happens selfves find this happens more when typing that mouthspeak but selfves also know selfves has trauma regarding mouthspeak coming out wrong, not surprised wouldn't be surprised be able find that masking built into mouthspeak HARD because of
words also do things where don't come out right. or have word in brain but mouth doesn't get that word also. so just. don't say it
words sometimes physically hard speak because pain, weakness, fatigue. so can't talk mouthspeak or can only short sentences
repeat things lots sometimes as way to communicate and takes a bit to try and reword in way that others understand once selfves told others not understand
sometimes get big stutter so that difficulties also
can't think of what else. sometimes this is just verbally, all of the above, but other times can't understand words and language overall in general
I get a lot of questions about semiverbalism and what it means. I have a few posts on semiverbalism, however most of them are about what it means to me. So, here’s what semiverbalism is. What it means to other people, and what it can mean.
I encourage people to please correct me if I’m wrong or even add onto it. I will edit this post if I get something wrong! I acknowledge that semiverbalism is a HUGE spectrum.
Semiverbalism can mean;
Speaking in only echolalia or scripts
Speaking in short sentances (example: “I love you” gets shortened to “love you” or “love”)
Speaking only when spoken too
Speaking words out of order and words not coming out correctly
Saying something and it not coming out the same as what you want/thought
Stuttering over your words frequently and talking incoherently
Saying things you don’t mean
Speaking being hard
Having very little words in your vocabulary
Overall, semiverbal as a whole means that speech is hard or speech is incoherent to those around you. Semiverbalism is very individual to the person and is a very personal experience. I know I’m probably not listing all of what makes someone semiverbal.
Please if you’re semiverbal then share your experience! I’d love to hear what makes you semiverbal.

people on low dose naltrexone: we're not like those guys on high dose naltrexone for addictions. I'm tired of being confused for them
[ID: a blad cat staring in the corner with text saying"[sobbing]"]
.....I am those people
why are people on LDN so obsessed with distancing themselves from us instead of dismantling the stigma around taking naltrexone? why are you guys just abandoning us? why do you think your chronic pain is better than my addiction? why do you think you're better than me? more worthy of support than me? less worth of stigma than me?
you get to explain "oh don't worry, I'm not like them" to doctors and I dont because I am them. instead of realizing that's wrong, that treating people poorly because they have an addiction is wrong, you try to distance yourself and naltrexone from addiction entirely. you don't want to be associated with us. it hurts.

A foreword: I agree with the sentiment of this post and I don't mean to come across as though I don't. There is nothing wrong with having sensory issues, and there is nothing to feel bad about. It is not my intention to come across as rude or dismissive here. However:
I feel like it should be noted that while it is not morally wrong to eat without much variety, it Can be Not Good for your health.
There are different ways to eat just about everything: grilling instead of steaming, putting something in a stew, mixing it in with something else you like, chopping it up really finely, putting it in a curry, etc etc.
A lot of the common safe foods are things like chicken fingers, bread, rice, pasta—things that are processed in such a way they have little variation. This is fine! Sometimes variation is overwhelming, and you just need to eat something. Eating anything is better than eating nothing. However you're probably not going to get all the iron or calcium or vitamin C and so on from these foods.
It's okay if you eat the same thing every day for the rest of your life. That's literally fine, there's nothing morally wrong with that. I'm just a bit worried that some people might use this mindset as a way to excuse not getting a well-rounded supply of vitamins & minerals. There are some serious health issues stemming from poor nutrition. (There are also some annoying health issues, e.g. if you're not getting enough fibre. (But annoying health issues can and do have knock-on effects later!))
The good thing is that there's no "right way" to get your Nutrience. You can put spinach in your brownies, you can have fruit with your dinner—so long as you're getting the variety you need. The rules of what is Supposed to go with which meal and when it should be eaten are meaningless social constructs. Eat when you're hungry, and eat what you enjoy and makes you feel full and energised.
However, going back on what I've just said a little bit (because mealtimes are routines, and we do love our routines): If it helps, and is possible, I strongly suggest figuring out some sort of meal plan. Even if it's not calendar-based (ie "today I will eat X for breakfast, Y for lunch, and Z for dinner, and tomorrow I will do something different"), a printout by the fridge/pantry laying out the different options for each mealtime (and snacks!) can be super helpful in taking away some of the mental load that comes with deciding what to eat.
Do remember though: Eating anything is better than eating nothing. If you don't have the spoons to handle variety, that's okay—just eat Something.
As OP said: It's not wrong to have sensory issues. There is nothing wrong with you. You're just existing, and your brain is like that, and that's OK. There is nothing to feel bad about.
Yours truly, a Neurodivergent person with nutrient deficiencies :)
Reminder: It's alright if you're a "picky" eater. It's alright if you only eat a few specific foods. It's alright if you don't try new foods. It's alright. You should never feel bad about sensory issues. I love you /p
#food#neuro tag#neurodivergency#sensory issues#Once again this is not intended to dismiss OP's message#I just worry about the health implications#Also there are fairly low-spoons ways to get more veggies in your diet—I like frozen peas. You can chuck em in a mug with some water and pu#that in the microwave and bam! Now you have peas#I don't have much advice by way of trying to have a varied diet when you're short on money but I have heard that soup is a pretty reliable#staple for that. Onions + celery + carrot + potato cut and chucked in boiling water with some salt and pepper and maybe chicken stock can g#a long way#Also beans are a good source of fibre I think#Those fuckers are versatile too. Beans on toast; burritos; chili (because that is apparently a name for a meal in some places? I don't know#I'm not a Yankee); curry; I think some soups? I don't know as much about beans as I wish I did tbh#Anyway yeah. Sensory issues can be a nightmare with food and my heart goes out to my fellow troopers

having a bad vision day (also I forgot my opaque contact lens and I'm having to look at spreadsheets) but I was finally able to come up with a decent simulation of it
It's not totally accurate since it's really hard to simulate the flashing specifically (imagine what it's like to look through one of those red and blue 3D glasses, and the disorientation of having your eyes see different colors. That kind of thing is what I'm calling "flashing"). I tried to kind of show that with the squiggles over the text. I probably should have used a white pen for that since the "noise" is kind of a light gray
And I'm not really seeing double images as much as this implies... I'm kind of trying to simulate the difficulty in focusing on text. Almost as if it's wiggling and moving around, but it's not.
I really should try to animate this instead! 🤣
It's dramatically better if I close/cover my bad eye but on a bad day I still have some issues
#also i realize that nobody cares about this nearly as much as i do (which is ok and understandable)#but i really want to figure out how to portray/describe it so my neuro-ophthalmologist can understand#tagging in case any relevant strangers are curious ->#optic neuritis#multiple sclerosis

this is wonderful, tysm!!!!
really sorry, appreciate HPD wordmoji but was asking if able to do a symbol emoji, not word emoji. is okay get that? thanks!!!
It’s totally alright! I’ll definitely do that, but I’m not sure how I’d represent that visually since I don’t know enough about it. Anyone have suggestions? I’ll add a symbol emoji to this post once I have a good idea of what to draw :)
Edit: okay! How does this look? I designed it to try to show how people with HPD need to attention in order to feel stable, how their emotions change and shift in response to that, and how they also form behaviors to get that attention. If I should make any edits or changes to the emoji or description please tell me, I’m happy to make them!
[ID: an emoji of a yellow figure with a calm expression and a heart drawn on their chest. Sparkles and little rays are around their head to show stability and calm. They are placing each hand on two different colored circles, one purple and one green, and the colors from each fade up their arms. /End ID]
#like that it portrays HPD at a stable point and not during something like a bad point#also to self it portrays the suggestibility aspect of it which is good#art#neuro tag#and the stars give off ‘attention’ to self

wrong costume
dnf fic, 4.8k words, rated E
When George's costume comes as something he can't wear in public, it's a blessing in disguise. Instead of going to the party, he puts the slutty minion costume on and decides to spend some time alone. Except, Dream bails on the party too, and walks in on something he's not supposed to.

no new digital art this week but I edited collages of some ink people from my sketchbook. a few of these are requests from my friend Carlos.
the point of this sketchbook is to try to draw as if I were a middle schooler drawing just for the sake of it, no expectations of high quality, lots of colored pencils and crayons, and lots of fun!
