Okay...  more petty drama from The Sandman Facebook group.   For those who would like to know what's going on this week... J. K. Rowling has made some statements that have been seen as very hurtful by the LGBTQ+ community, mostly trans.   It is easy to believe that J. K. Rowling is probably a TERF.   I already forbid bigoted and anti-trans ideology in the group but that wasn't good enough for some people.   A person named Em Newman, for example started to demand I ban all mention of Harry Potter. Needless to say, I refused.   This is pretty much impossible since many people feel Neil Gaiman's The Books of Magic may have inspired aspects of Harry Potter, and some dialogue in the eleventh episode of Sandman (Netflix series) mention J. K. Rowling.
Also Neil Gaiman, himself, has a pretty strong anti-censorship stance and I respect his views.   I will ban hate speech but I cannot ban things like "I always wanted to attend Hogwarts."
Em Newman decided this meant that I am transphobic and they and their friends formed a new Sandman group "The Sandman without Terfs."   But that wasn't the end of it.  Em Newman started to call random members of my Sandman group names.  They called me a "Snapewife" for some reason.   (I GUESS that's someone who crushes on the Snape character from Harry Potter).   They started to post my picture on their group and elsewhere with this claim, including in the Facebook group "Poor people simping for capitalism." They even started to call one of my group moderators a "Token trans" because she's a trans woman.   This is what ultimately lead to my banning Em Newman from The Sandman group. Because Em Newman posted about me elsewhere, this lead to a surge of trolls in The Sandman group for the last day or so.  In fact, just three hours ago, if you scroll down my personal Facebook, to the Velveteen Rabbit post you'll find a comment from Em Newman with their doctored picture of my Facebook profile image, calling me a "Snapewife."   I barely know what that even means so I'm not sure why they seem to think it's such a clever insult. I'm forty-one-years-old.  I'm not that into Harry Potter.  I just refuse to forbid it's mention!  And I certainly do not condone a lot of J. K. Rowling's statements or beliefs.  I hadn't even liked her since she decided Native American Skinwalkers were just animagi under a smear campaign from Shamans with no real power.   I don't defend J. K. Rowling, I just refuse to ban the mention of Harry Potter.  That is all.
If you scroll down on this attached post from my own Facebook wall you’ll see how Em Newman has now decided to stalk me and post on my personal wall.

There is something about proudly proclaiming a show "tumblrista catnip" that makes me emotional.
Something about how for years tumblrinas were ridiculed by show creators.
Something about Supernatural having a meta episode set at a convention with all the weirdo fans that made the main characters uncomfortable. Something something about Becky and the message that fangirls are gross and obsessive.
Something about Sherlock and the way fans were portrayed as crazy obsessive nutjobs for trying to figure out how he faked his death.
Something about creators mocking fandoms, dismissing them as freaks. Something about queer people not being welcome to engage in their creations because "why do you have to make everything gay?"
Something about the malicious culture of queerbaiting throughout the 2000s/2010s, followed by Bury Your Gays tropes across the media landscape because hell, you should be grateful we even gave you queer characters to begin with - and everyone dies in our show! You ain't special!
Something about Destiel questions being banned from conventions...
And then...
Something instead about Good Omens, and letting the story adapt naturally, embracing the fanbase and leaning into the fanservice.
Something about Our Flag Means Death, and the genuine outpouring of love and affection between cast, crew, and fandom that culminated in an explosion of fanworks that were never once mocked or deemed gross or wrong.
Something about Sandman, and staunchly digging in their heels on the queerness of it all, refusing to give in to the homophobes and instead avidly mocking THEM on social media rather than us.
Something about the writers hearing about fandoms favourite ships and excitedly stating that YES! We DID lean into that because it happened naturally and made sense.
Something about a firefighter coming out as bisexual after 7 seasons...
So yeah, something about a new high quality show made FOR US. By creators that love US. Respect US, and WANT our love.
Something about US FINALLY being a target audience for the best shows being made on TV now.
Tumblrista catnip. Creators saying "we made this for you. You are important. Your voices have been heard."
It just... all got a bit overwhelming for a moment there.

The fox that he grew and he grew, until he was the size of the sky, and the huge fox was the night, and stars twinkled in the blackness of his coat, and the white tip of his tail was the hali- moon, shining in the night sky.

About bootlegging Good Omens...
I don't have the ranges to reach a lot of people, but I'm going to say this nonetheless.
If you feel like you can't bare anything that NG has ever created, you don't want to hear about Good Omens, Sandman, Coraline etc. ever again, that's perfectly fine and a decision to be respected. Quite frankly, I've found myself feeling uneasy while I tried to read Sandman recently because I can't stop perceiving it through what I found out about the author. Hell, even the sex scene in Stardust doesn't sit right with me anymore...
BUT
If you are still a fan of any of Neil's ongoing franchise (GO, Sandman, DBD, Anansi Boys) and choosing to bootleg them just to "punish" him - think again. Neil's current net worth is $18M. Even if he doesn't ever earn another penny, he can spend up to $0.5M a year and live to be nearly a hundred without a care in the world.
What you'll actually be doing is informing the streaming networks (Prime and Netflix) that Neil's franchise isn't worth investing in anymore. And, as a result, you guessed it - the shows you still love WILL get CANCELLED. Make no mistake, just because Prime has greenlit Good Omens s3 doesn't mean that can't pull out on a whim.
Neil hates showrunning, he said as much himself. He's only persevering on Good Omens because he'd made a promise to Pratchett. So let me say it again: by bootlegging, you won't be punishing Neil. You'll be punishing YOURSELVES by literally telling the networks to cancel the show, because they won't get any money out of it. Or, if not cancel - limit the investment, as they did with GO s2, which will result in shorter episodes (in case of GO right now we're looking at 6x45m... would you rather get 6x30m instead?), fewer extras, lower budget on CGI and sets, and overall poorer quality.
In other words - you'll be cutting multiple artists' income. I'm not talking about top-tier actors like MS or DT - they'll do all right either way (although MS will mostly likely be heartbroken, as we know how much he loves Good Omens). I'm talking about all the extras and less known actors who perform minor roles! I'm talking about everyone involved in the production - in making of the sets, in creating the special effects, hell, in carrying equipment and pouring coffee! Those are the people you'll be punishing.
Seriously, aside from his promise to Terry, I'm convinced Neil couldn't care less. Otherwise why would he be so adamant about wrapping it up in just 3 seasons when it's winning distinction after distinction?
Last but not least, watching Good Omens legally and buying franchise doesn't harm the victims. If Neil really committed the atrocities he's accussed of, he'll be punished by the court! Punishing Neil isn't your responsibility!
So before you make a decision, please remember:
if the show you bootleg is cancelled as a result, you will have punished: yourself, the fandom, all the artists and people involved in the production
punishing Neil is NOT your responsibility
wanting the networks to continue the franchise you like doesn't harm the victims

Between Neil Gaiman's PR team astroturfing, the Good Omens fandom collectively covering their ears so no one gives them the ick about their favorite show, and generally all of the victim blamers and rape apologists... I'd say y'all are doing a fantastic job of burying not just this story, but any potential discussions about the allegations. I hope you're fucking proud of yourselves.

Knowing that I'm pretty excited for The Sandman second season is fire, because I know that I'm just going to wait till the scene of my favorite character who's going to appear a few minutes to not be seeing ever again and that's all for me, the plot? The other characters and their problems? Nah thank you, give me my Hob Gadling and that's all dude.

Honestly I’m so glad I gave up having heroes or idols as a teenager for much less serious reasons.
I grew up with Neil Gaimans creations being a massive part of every stage of my life, from my mother reading me Wolves In The Walls, to watching Coraline repeatedly, to binging Good Omens and Dead Boy Detectives.
These stories will remain important to me and continue to inspire me, but he won’t, arguably he was never the main reason I loved most of these stories on the first place.
I love laika studios, I love david tennant, I love terry pratchett, I love the various different interpretations of the characters from the sandman universe. There are dozens of different artists who made these characters and their stories what they are. They deserve better than to have their work tainted by one man.
Multiple women have accused him of sexual assault, even his own response sounds like a confession, I believe he’s absolutely guilty.
He’s an egotistical prick and that’s the reason why he does what he does. I refuse to give him credit for other people’s efforts in art, writing, and acting. They don’t deserve to go down with him. He doesn’t deserve to take them down with him.

pt II sandman but i've never watched or read it
It's happening again I'm being kidnapped again there's no hope left for me god I'm so in love with Dream he's such a cutiepie uh right this post okay. I'm uh the Good Omens Mascot and I'm losing my mind here have part two based on whatever I have understood from y'all's replies to my first post.
It's Neil's baby and a lot of amazing artists are involved. One of whom made Dream look like a gooey pile of sad adorableness in volume 1.
Dream is a sad wet lonely repressed cat of a man. No I do not have one type.
There's this dude whom I think is named the Corinthian. He's a dream (but not Dream) and he can see things.
His eyes are mouths and his teeth are apparently Very White and any dental hygienist would orgasm at the sight.
Dream was kept prisoner for a century. Where? I don't fucking know. Why? I don't fucking know. How? Er there was some kind of. Glass (?) case.
There's a sleeping sickness while he's gone coz things got weird.
His raven is killed by someone and maybe he should have forgiven him but he could not.
Something happens at the end of Volume 7 that people need to recover from.
There's someone with glasses who keeps telling Dream stuff and they're Very Important and I have no fucking clue who they are.
There's someone named Freddie and people are feral for him and I don't know who he is.
Dream is just constantly on the verge of tears. Always. Just fucking always. Poor baby.
Sandman more like Sadman amirite.
He thinks everything ever is his fault. Mood.
EVERYONE KEEPS REASSURING ME THERE IS NO CANONICAL INCEST BUT APPARENTLY BOTH DREAM AND DESIRE HAVE SEXUAL TENSION WITH EVERYONE INCLUDING THEIR FAMILY AND EACH OTHER AND THEY ARE SIBLINGS AND AAAAAAAAA.
The family is Endless btw and I don't know what that means but they are.
Dream has a boyfriend (long distance? idk they keep meeting each other every 100 years) named after a cooking stove who calls Dream out for being lonely and Dream doesn't like that and they fight and then they go into the rain etc etc.
Hob is immortal because he does not want to die and he is convinced that humans only die because they uh think there's no other option. It's giving just think positive thoughts.
Dream almost stands him up but then doesn't some bar is moved.
There are keys to Hell and Dream doesn't know what to do with them.
There are tools and they make you weak.
Desire has all the genders.
I am apparently exactly like Delirium.
Dream is a sad wet cat at one point and then he turns into a shadowy being with cute bright eyes.
Dream is fucking pretty in every single fucking century like oh my fuckING GOD I AM SO GAY
Tom Sturridge (?) is Dream's actor and he has chemistry with everyone on screen apparently which leads to incest vibes
There's some kind of fucking Grape Incest scene
Despair is played by Mrs Sandwich
Death is kind and cuddles a dead baby at one point
It's gay but I do not know HOW it is gay but I am assured it is Gay
Er. Feel free to correct me.

Starting to realise that two of my fandoms may merge next year when Supernatural and Sandman collide in Dead Boy Detectives.
The ghost of Steve Yockey has returned to join Neil Gaiman on a Sandman Adjacent series full of Supernatural style investigation AND its gonna be SO queer.
Yeah Neil is right Tumblr is gonna LOVE this show.

Morpheus • The Lord of Dreams
(digital fanart based on Netflix show "The Sandman")
Tumblr media
I recently watched "The Sandman" from Netflix and caught an overdose of another character from the category "my personal fetish" ❤️‍🔥 Of course, I assumed that I would like Morpheus, but so much 🔥 However, it's not surprising. Gothic-aesthetic men with a sculpted face and dressed in a black cloak have always been a separate kind of my love. And also here is my favorite atmosphere of Dreams and Mysticism. So, +1 to the collection of fandoms and definitely +1 to the collection of TOP male characters.
Of course, I have a couple of objective complaints about the show, but if in general – I was in love ❤️ The plot of the series corresponds to the comic almost verbatim (jeez, how cool!). And for me, as a lover of aesthetics and beautiful visuals, the darkly atmospheric show has become an inspiring addition to the graphic novel. Although some moments are too smoothed out. The original source is still tougher and much mature 😅
BUT! The Lord of Dreams in this adaptation is amazing! He conquered me 🖤😍 So I'm waiting for the Season 2 and drawing ✍🏻

Y'know, I never liked the part of The Sandman where we find out what happened between Dream and Nada. But in light of what's happening with the Neil Gaiman allegations right now... really leaves quite the icky feeling

pardon the quality - i did try to enhance it, but it made the audio go janky so just left as is.
