Heyyy, love your writing, it gives me all the whumperflies! Could you maybe write something with a whumpee who’s terrified of needles? Love your work so much !!!

Whumpee was sitting on the hospital bed, trying to remain calm. They have been found, they are out, they are safe.

They know Caretaker, they know the people here are helping them. They just needed to remain calm, and let them help.

The memories of Whumper made it difficult, though. Every touch makes them flinch, every flash of pain makes them want to run, or beg for mercy. But they didn't, they stayed seated, gripping the blanket a bit too tight, trying to control their breathing as the doctors worked.

But then one of the doctors grabbed a syringe, and Whumpee saw the needle.

No.

It's all their mind produced, but it was exactly everything they felt. No.

They tensed, and pushed themselves back on the bed as they started to tremble, trying to suppress the memories. Memories of Whumper, who found out Whumpee already had a fear of needles, and used that knowledge to hurt Whumpee. Again. And Again. And again-

"No," Whumpee choked out, making Caretaker frown in concern.

"Whumpee, it won't hurt you." They tried to reassure them, but Whumpee just shook their head.

"Please," their voice was weak, as they could focus on nothing else but the needle. "Please. No."

"It will be quick," the doctor tried as they took a careful step forward. It did nothing to calm Whumpee down, they just threw themselves back as if they were struck, their back pressing against the wall.

Whumpee's breathing picked up, and they felt the familiar panic seize their chest, the panic they tried so hard to suppress for the past hours. They tried to talk, to explain, but they couldn't. They couldn't do anything but tremble and stare, silently pleading for mercy. But they knew mercy wouldn't come. Whumper never gave them mercy.

A sob escaped them as they felt themselves get lost in the memories, the hospital room falling away, their mind seeing nothing but the cell and Whumper's face as they held a needle.

"Okay," Caretaker's voice broke through the panic, though it didn't calm Whumpee down yet. "Okay, it's okay. It's gone, Whumpee, see? Just breathe."

It took a while, but Whumpee managed to focus their gaze on the doctor- just the doctor, not Whumper- and Caretaker was right. There was no more needle. Whumpee didn't know where it went, and that made them nervous, but it was better than seeing it come closer.

"I-" they tried, "I'm sorry."

"It's okay," Caretaker said again, placing a hand on Whumpee's shoulder. The touch was grounding. "We won't do anything you don't want. Nobody will hurt you, Whumpee, never again."

Whumpee let out a deep breath, trying to believe Caretaker. But the memory of Whumper's smile as they pressed a needle into their skin wouldn't leave them.

Caretaker had said it would get better with time, but Whumpee knew better. This would always stay with them.

Needle-watch poll

So, I got some vaccinations the other day, and the pharmacy tech seemed unnerved that I opted to watch him insert the needle. And he is not the first to comment on it. I'm willing to accept I'm an outlier and shouldn't be counted, I'm just curious how much of an outlier.
