Hello! I love your Cosplay Guides for COD! It’s very detailed and well done! But I can’t seem to find the character I’d like to cosplay beside Soap! I even found and looked on your DeviantArt, but he wasn’t there. Would it be possible to consider adding Gary ‘Roach’ Sanderson? Thank you in advance! :)
Ah, here’s where it gets difficult as there isn’t a “canon” reboot appearance of Roach that is able to be properly broken down. A lot of the “remaster” Roach images out there are actually just using modified or “kitbashed” versions of AI NPC skins or generic MP “milsim” skins, which share a lot of the same core assets as the campaign characters in terms of clothing, plate carriers, and pouches, albiet in different configurations and colourations.
The OG trilogy doesn’t give us much to work on either as we didn’t really see more than his arms from the first person mode, and what glimpses of his body we do get, he’s wearing the same kit as the other TF141 characters as their appearance was a lot more uniform than the reboot is. The other issue with the OG trilogy is that the equipment, even in the remaster, is too low-poly and generic to really make any kind of identification of specific equipment nearly impossible.
(Post-note: This is turning into a longer response than I expected so I’ll throw this under the cut)
Personally, if I were building a cosplay for Roach that was in line with the reboot’s aesthetics, then I would start with what “theme” I want to capture based on existing trends. Looking at what the other boys have there are about three, maybe four distinct themes:
- Night Raider: the “nightwar” gear where they’re all in black and navy blue, night vision goggles, all that “going dark” angle
- Field Work: what the boys wear a lot during MW19 and MWIII, your more conventional SF look with the green, brown, and camouflage printed clothing and gear, maybe helmets or hats, etc.
- Urban Ops: essentially streetwear or civilian attire with their combat loads just thrown over the top, maybe a thinned out load for mobility or “short duration” actions. Think Soap’s tee & jeans load or what is worn during the tunnel fight in the end of MWIII.
Once you have a theme in mind, draw inspiration from the others for what Roach might have, and don’t be afraid to incorporate headcanons if you so choose.
Here’s what I would do if I were building a Roach costume, using what is known from the canon trilogy and commonly adopted fanon.
Theme: Urban Operations
Clothing:
- Ranger Green Crye G3 combat shirt, rolled up sleeves to below the elbow. UK IR flag patch on right shoulder pocket flap.
- Faded blue and torn denim jeans, single kneepad on the right knee.
- Mechanix Original gloves in Coyote Brown, cutoff the trigger finger halfway on the right glove.
Platform (vest):
- Crye CPC in coyote brown
— Condor Tactical Annex Admin pouch on the top velcro section of the vest
— 2x HSGI Twin AR Taco rifle mag pouches on the front MOLLE panel, occupying wearer’s left and centre row pairs
— Flashbang pouch occupying right row pair of the front molle panel
— Left cummerbund, running front to back: HSGI Single AR Taco rifle mag pouch, Spritus Systems GP pouch, Tactical Tailor PRC-152 radio pouch - all coyote brown
— Right cummerbund, front to back: flashbang pouch, Spritus Systems GP pouch
— Rear platebag just remains empty to accommodate a backpack when needed
— Patches: Green IR UK flag patch attached to the admin pouch
- Ronin Tactics TF Belt, coyote brown
— Left hip: ESSTAC twin pistol magazine pouch, with single HSGI AR Taco behind it
— Small of back: Blue Force Gear Micro Trauma NOW IFAK
— Right Hip: holster of some kind on a low-ride platform, suitable for a sidearm of your choosing. Recommend Safariland brand.
Headwear:
Beanie/watch cap with Opscore AMP headset over the top, half-face neckwrap in black or grey, with tinted wrap sunglasses.
Haven’t covered footwear as I have a few boots I wear personally, can’t go wrong with either Underarmour or Oakley tactical boots, or cross reference my guides and see what the others wear.
I hope this serves as a helpful guide or something to help you out with your own Roach cosplay. And believe me, if we do get a Roach character in the reboot verse you can bet that I’ll have their loadout breakdown done!
Thanks for the ask!

another jock question: it’s too icy for me to run outside right now and I don’t have a treadmill. should I just skip a few days? run around my apartment? what do you when the weather sucks?
I live in Italy! So I still go out when the weather sucks, but my standards for "this weather sucks and it's SO cold and I'm being SO brave about it" are, like, any temperature at which I can see my breath, and I make a huge fuss about it. I wouldn't survive one day in the heart of true winter.
Some ideas:
Bundle up and go for a walk! This is less about doing cardio and more about it being good for your mood. If you're like me, being coped up inside all day even when the weather is tragic is worse than putting on a rain jacket and a scarf and wandering around for half an hour, even if you're not getting any sort of exercise. Just smell the air! Feel the wind! If it's your thing, the mental benefits of being outside >>>> the inconvenience of shitty weather.
Indoor workout! If you just want to burn some steam, you can just free up some space in your home and do stuff like 1) cardio workouts or callisthenics 2) in-depth full body stretch or mobility work 3) some cool bodyweight progression / stuff you've always wanted to try (all these links go to youtube vids I like). Personally, I'm team "If I have to take a rest day I'd better make it count" so I like to do stretching and mobility and pretend I'm the kind of person who regularly remembers to do it. Then I take a bath and just chill <3 all the stuff I don't actually have the time to do on days I go to the gym.
Just Do It (run). I only recommend this if you're in the kind of climate where "cold" means 0° to -5° (30 to 23F if you believe in freedom) and not, like snowstorms. In that case, I recommend a thermal shirt (I like these from declathon's football section lol) a light rainjacket, a scarf / neckwrap that can double up as headgear, and gloves if necessary. You start feeling cold but it won't matter 10 minutes in. Make sure to finish your run close enough to your house that you won't chill getting there.
#Anonymous#ask#jockposting#i'm about to go run 90 mins in 12°C weather and I'm feeling soooo brave for it i could not survive the US midwest rn#this year has been unseasonally warm i haven't needed to use gloves even once :/#i'm not even from skiing italy i'm from rome so like. i can remember the last time it snowed here bc it was THAT memorable

A Z-Hunter strafes two zombies, preparing a execution
Z-Hunters (Zed-Hunters, Zod-Hunters, ect..) are people who work in locations heavily populated by infected. Often scavenging, retrieving items of importance or information, or even entirely clearing out zombies.
Although professionally produced armor does exist, due to limited supply most hunters use makeshift equipment. Almost All Hunters wear:
Multiple layers with thick fabric, not only to protect from bites and scratches but to keep infected blood and fluids off of them as well. Bright, attention grabbing flairs for easy identification in hectic situations. Hip or chest pouches that are easier to use then backpacks or pockets. And occasionally, internal cages around the chest to protect from being trampled or crushed if the hunter is overwhelmed by a horde. The hunter pictured here, Daniel, is wearing a set of overalls over top a leather jacket with gloves and a thick coif. They've duck tapped the gloves and boots to the rest of their clothing to form a complete seal over their body. For further added protection beyond this they wear a set of chemical gloves, and motorcycle helmet, and a pair of chaps.
Daniel says that fashion is no use to the dead, but I'd argue their red neckwrap and armband are all the rage.
The brace on their arm has fabric wrapped around it, when asked about it Daniel said, "Their teeth will slide right off the metal. That, and I swear some of them still have the faculties to try and bite for something that'll give. It just makes it easier to get a hold on them."
Speaking on getting a hold of, I asked Daniels if they themselves had ever been grabbed, "Yeah? It happens. Everybody knows that they're strong, but only in bursts. And they can't really hurt you if you just kinda lean into it."
"Eventually they get bored, or tired and let go enough for you to take care of 'em."
I asked about their shiv, why they didn't use a knife.
"Well, ya know, it's a preference thing I guess. Most knives are made for cutting more than stabbing, and usually not so deep if they are."
Daniel held up their implement, "This actually used to be a wrench, we hammered it out into a point. It's thin, strong and sharp. I - personally, whatever - I feel like Knives just don't have the right shape to slip into the spine."
"Also, I have a chain looped through the leftover ring at the end that goes around my wrist - like a Wii remote. Saves a lot of time messing around with a holster or it getting lost."
The "Wii" was a entertainment console released in the early 2000's, the controllers for which would strap to the user's wrists. This would prevent the controller falling out of their grip and being damaged.
I continued the conversation, asking Daniel to elaborate on what they meant about slipping into the spine.
"Oh, well you see," They extended their arms to represent a zombie, or their own self fighting the zombie - it was admittedly hard to tell, "You're trying to get one arm in front of them, and then you find that little.. ..notch in the back of the skull, and you push." "
"Severs the spinal column - I don't actually know if that really kills them..."
I asked why they don't use guns. To which he sighed, asked if I've shot a gun (I have).
"They're loud, and yeah maybe two or three zombies will start marching over but really? I think most people just don't remember that you have to listen to the gun go off as well, everytime. I don't want to go deaf before 50."
A fair and important consideration. Ear protection is expensive, or large. That's not to mention how that effect can be magnified indoors.
"And then you've got the problem of ammo, you see how thick these gloves are? You aren't exactly dextrose, and trying to fiddle around through a dozen different pouches for ammo - which you have to buy - is (difficult)"
Another important point other hunters brought up is that guns often spread far more infectious blood into the air.
I asked if Daniels had ever been afraid or overwhelmed out there, however, Daniels shrugged off this question. They said that their old job had been worse. As far as I can tell Daniels only other work history was at a Fast Food Restaurant.
I continued to ask about small things that benefit the job Daniels listed:
"A good, spacey pair of boxers. And don't wear a bra it's almost never worth it. It gets way too hot" "Keep a wet washcloth on you to keep your visor clear." "Learn some old marching songs or something similar, something easy to remember and sing that won't drive you insane"
Daniel then went on to a long, drawn out explanation of how much having a camel-back - a small waterproof pouch with an extended tube that can be drunk from. I believe this can be safely shortened to note that hydration is a concern that is easy to forget in their line of work.
I then asked about why they refused to work on hordes, since it seemed like something they were very capable of doing. I find Daniel's response quite informative.
"You know what? Yeah, yeah we could! The three of us? Hell, alone! I could get one of those fancy exoskeletons, some knee and armpads, probably fill up my camel-back with some like... nutrient slurry? And just get to work for a few days! Spend a few days just killing zombies. Spend a few days in the same pair of clothes, covered in rotting blood surrounded by rotting bodies. I'll sleep there, sleep in the same pants that I [defecate] and [urinate] in! Do you think it'd be better to [defecate] wet or solid? Like could you get trench foot?"
I took this as rhetorical.
"No, [...] that, leave that to the professionals. Military or PMC or whatever." "You know, I've seen the looks we get. Like, we get a fair few people grossed out because we are covered in an obscene amount of sweat and long dried filfth - four layers of clothes exercising in the summer? You get used to it. But I've gotten looks of respect, like we're heros."
They almost spat that word.
"We're not, like yeah, fine, I've saved lives - I get that. I found some kid once in the top of an apartment, didn't even believe she -He? I think he's a he now. Got a letter from him a few weeks ago, maybe he was always a guy? Anyway, I didn't believe he was real. I had to have my partner convince me I hadn't gone insane. We got him out by wrapping him up in a carpet and just, walking right out. But it's not - we're not heroic."
"There's nothing special about what we're doing! You aren't Doomguy, you aren't Ash or whoever else. You're bored!"
Doomguy was a character from the 2010's videogame series "Doom". Similarly, Ash was a protagonist from another little known game released in the early 2020's, "Rainbow Six: Siege, Extraction"
"You're sweaty and the buildings are holding all the humidity and their rotting so it's always sweltering. You're sore all over and your voice is raw 'cause you're trying to have a conversation through a helmet that a brick would struggle to get through. Killing zombies isn't cool, or skillful. It's not even scary."
"It's just sad. D-Don't get me wrong the Z's are dangerous but with all the clothes they can't do anything so they just kinda... It's sad, okay? You really just kinda focus on getting your work done and going home. It's like any other public service or job, like being a garbage man!"
"You want a real hero? Go find a [...] sanitation worker! They do a hell of a lot more good then I've ever done."
That concluded my interview with Daniel.
#witness! my art#witness! my writing#zombie#Largely based off of a lot of the Rot and Ruin series#I'm sure it shows#I guess some stuff I've heard about WWZ the book influenced it as well#zombies#short story

NaKniCroMo 2020 Day 22: First Project
Oh god, I’m not counting the giant swatch I made as my first crochet experience, even though I figured out how to make it into a neck-wrap of sorts because I didn’t start out with that as an intended project. Also I don’t think I have a picture of it.
Instead, I submit my very first amigurumi . He was completely freehand and my skill level of the time SHOWS. He’s homely, understuffed, and kind of wonkily put together (it’s a bird if you can’t tell and I wouldn’t blame you).
To date this project, Kingdom Hearts was all the rage at the time and my sister said it reminded her of a Heartless so that’s his name. https://www.instagram.com/p/B-Gd6l9A9aA/?igshid=kkkpwlq95dpo
