Simon “Ghost” Riley x F! Reader
Summary: Your little baby girl has started to run a fever, & only Simon can give her the comfort she needs
A/N: So a lil fun fact about me I’m actually a Mrs. Riley (no I’m not kidding) & those photos made by the incredibly talented @ave661 have made my baby fever kick in so badly especially when hearing people use “Baby Riley” & seeing all the men my husband is serving with currently put their little ones in the cutest baby gear isn’t helping it 😭
Warnings: none
Tumblr media
Two days. You hadn’t gotten a full nights sleep in two days. Your breasts ached from not being pumped consistently & your little one wouldn’t latch due to the croop cough that been making her feel miserable. You had contacted the pediatrician to see what you could do to help your wailing baby. Since the croop was common in babies all you could do was give her medicine & try to soothe her. Her cries were starting to make you emotional. You felt her whole body tense as she coughed. Tears started to fall as her cries echoed off of the walls of the nursery. Today Simon was coming home from a training exercise, & thankfully he was the one thing that without fail could soothe her.
You had just given her some medicine & the taste really upset her.
“I know my sweet girl,” You told her. “Let me turn on the nebulizer.” You flipped on the little machine that was shaped like a giraffe, a baby gift you were now thankful for. A steady stream of steam came out & you sat down in the rocking chair facing her towards the steam. Through her crying you hear the cough starting to break up. The sound of the door opening made you sit up more & you hear him taking off his combat boots.
“Love?” He said as he walked up the stairs.
“I’m in the babies room.” You replied. He walked in still in his combat pants, & uniform t-shirt. “She won’t stop crying baby, I don’t want to do.”
“Give her to me love, I’m in need of some daddy daughter bonding time.” He said. Your daughter immediately stopped wailing & cooing in the arms of her father. Her little arms reaching for his face. “You missed your daddy didn’t you?” He asked her. Her little hand wrapping around his index finger. “Come on love let’s let your mummy rest & let’s take a bath.”
“Thank you,” You mouthed to him & turned off the humidifier. You gave him a kiss & then walked into your shared bedroom. Your body felt instant relief as soon as you laid down. Slumber consumed you very quickly & you fell into a deep sleep.
Simon had taken your baby girl into the bathroom, & started a warm bath for her. She let out a wicked wet cough, & her whole body shook with each one she let out. He placed her in the bath & by the look in her eyes Simon could tell it was providing comfort for her. The steam from the water lingering in the air mixed with washing away the thin layer of sweat that came from the fever soothed her.
“I bet that probably feels better my love.” He said as he started to wash her sandy blonde locks. Her eyes rolled to back of her head as he massaged the baby shampoo into her scalp. He took the empty cup beside him & filled it with the water from the tub to rinse out the shampoo. Her eyes started to close & her mouth was slightly open admitting little snores. Simon smiled at his daughter, she was the most precious thing in his life (other then you of course.) He was first initially apprehensive about being a father, but after she was born he couldn’t imagine not being one. She was fully passed out in the baby bath tub by the time he went to drain the water.
He wrapped her small little body in a warm towel & brought her into the nursery. Gently he laid her down on the changing table & started to apply some lotion to her body. His large hands massage it into her skin making her smile in her sleep from the relaxing sensation. He gently tugged on her chubby legs stretching her. Simon read it once in a baby book that it was good to stretch your baby out to help with their flexibility & he’s done it every night he’s home. Usually she’s wiggly & he has to hand her the lotion bottle to stay preoccupied but she was tuckered out.
He applied some baby powder to & put a nice clean fresh diaper on her. She was started to breath heavier from the cough. Her little body started to stir & he turned on the humidifier for her. He pressed her small frame into his chest. Her little face was smushed up against his chest. A little bit of drool started to pool onto his chest. He sat down in the steam with her & her little body wasn’t trying as hard to breath. His large hand that held her to his chest started to rub small circles on her little back. Once she was fully relaxed again he placed her in the crib. He reached into the crib & placed her favorite pacifier in her mouth. She immediately took to it & he ran a finger over her flushed cheeks.
“Sleep tight my sweet girl.” He quietly said & turned on her night light. After he took a shower himself washing away all the grime & sweat from the strenuous training exercise he endured he crawled into bed with you. You felt his body eclipse you as he laid down. Slowly you turned to face him eyes still heavy. He pressed a gentle kiss to your forehead. “Go back to sleep my love she’s all settled.” He softly whispered. You laid your head down on your pillow, & he did the same letting sleep consume the both of you.

hey yall so i have covid (im feeling okay! my symptoms have been pretty mild :) so i’m about to have so much time to write- anyways here’s pt. 2 of this fic (it’s not technically a chapter fic but it’s also based off the idea of pony w breathing problems :)
so here’s darry helping pony with a breathing treatment, slight emetophobia warning (nothing graphic but it’s there)
“alright, kiddo, just try one more time for me, in and out, okay?”
darry knew if he couldn’t get pony under control soon, they’d probably have to go to the hospital. aside from them definitely not being able to afford hospital care on top of all of pony’s already very expensive treatment regiment, four trips to the hospital since september would definitely prompt a visit from social services. darry knew there was a chance they would take his brothers away, and even though it killed him to admit it, they’d be perfectly within their rights to do it.
the breath pony dragged in didn’t ease darry’s racing mind at all, especially not after he’d already used his inhaler twice.
it had all started with a small head cold, nothing out of the ordinary, especially since it was still february, but as all things did nowadays with pony, the illness had gone straight to his lungs. darry could hear him wheezing just standing up cutting vegetables for dinner, he was using his inhaler much more, and that dry, chesty, cough just didn’t seem to want to go away.
soda was normally the one who could take care of this, he knew all the tricks to get pony’s breathing calmed back down, but he was working a double and he made extra if he stayed after closing, so darry had no choice but to hunker down and prepare as much as he could. darry had initially brought pony into the bathroom and turned on the shower, the knob turned as hot as it would go, hoping that the steam would help with the cough, even if it was just for a few minutes.
at first, it had seemed like it was working, but when pony’s coughing fits started, it seemed like they never stopped. darry tried to get them under control, he really did, using all of their tricks he had already learned: deep pressure hugs, putting vapo-rub on his chest and neck, changing pony’s position about 100 times, nothing was working.
after an hour, he was seriously beginning to worry, sitting on the bathroom floor with a wheezing ponyboy leaning back against his chest, wrapped in a blanket. darry opened up the bathroom cupboard next to them and pulled out pony’s nebulizer.
“darry…” pony whined quietly, and darry felt him go tense.
“i know, honey, but we gotta get all this coughing under control,” darry ran a hand through pony’s hair, digging around in the cabinet for the medicine to put in the machine. “if this doesn’t calm down we gotta go to the hospital. and i’m gonna put more of that vapo-rub on you, that helped a little bit earlier.”
pony didn’t say anything. darry did what he could to convince himself it was because pony was conceding, however out of character that was for him. it was easier to tell himself that than think that he wasn’t complaining because he didn’t have the spare breath to.
he got the nebulizer set up and plugged in, all the while keeping pony leaned against him.
“alright, this should be good to go. can you sit up against the wall for me, little man? i gotta get the vapo-rub.”
pony shifted back and took the mouthpiece from darry as he turned it on, crawling across the bathroom floor to the edge of the bathtub where he had set up all of the supplies they may need. he picked up the tub of vapo-rub and shifted back over to pony, who was slumped against the wall, pulling in sad, short breaths.
“this might be a little cold, kiddo,” darry said softly. pony’s t-shirt had been balled up against the door so it wouldn’t stick to the vapo-rub earlier, so darry just pushed the blanket out of the way. they both pretended not to notice darry trying to feel pony’s heartbeat as he rubbed the gel over his chest. pony squeezed his eyes shut and darry felt his chest contract as he started coughing.
it felt like it would never stop once he got going, he dropped the nebulizer and pulled the blanket tighter around himself as he coughed uncontrollably. all darry could do was pull his little brother into his chest and pray that it would end soon. he knew how much pony hated the hospital, that they would just poke him and give him meds that made him feel funny and tired, but anything had to be better than this.
“i know, it’s okay, it’ll be over soon,” darry comforted, holding pony tight to him.
after a few more minutes, pony gagged and for a second it seemed like it was going to stop, but darry knew what was coming. he wasn’t sure how, but something in him knew to move pony as fast as he could. pony weakly pushed himself up onto his knees and threw up into the toilet.
it was miserable while it was happening. when he was done, he leaned back against the bathtub and pulled his knees up to his chest. darry slid over and pulled pony back into his arms, and as soon as the security of darry had wrapped itself around pony, the tears started.
“hey, don’t cry now, baby, i know that was lousy, but it’s over,” darry reached over and grabbed pony’s cup of water and held it for him as he drank feebly from the straw. “small sips, okay?”
even though it killed darry that pony had gotten sick, at least he wasn’t coughing anymore. he was able to get down some of his water and washed the foul taste out of his mouth.
“listen,” darry whispers, resting his cheek on pony’s head, one grounding hand on his chest while the other rubbed circles over his back. “can you try to do a little more of your treatment?”
pony sniffled, but nodded eventually. darry shuffled them both back over to the nebulizer, cradling pony in his lap and holding the mouthpiece for him as he breathed in the medicine.
pony was dead asleep when soda finally cracked open the bathroom door, darry holding their baby brother to his chest, the breathing treatment almost finished. maybe it was the blanket he was wrapped up in, or maybe it was because he was all curled up in a ball against their brother who was pretty big by any standard, but he looked so small. grease washed out of his hair, his skin pale and clammy, and their big brother rocking him gently, keeping him asleep while the medicine worked its way into his aching lungs.
“need me to take over?” soda asked quietly, and darry looked up at him.
darry shook his head, “i got him for now, go get changed and shower. i'm gonna bring him to sleep with me tonight.”
soda nodded, "i'll put away the nebulizer, you get him to bed."
once the treatment had finished, darry scooped pony up and carried him the few steps down the hall to his bedroom, gently setting him down on the bed before changing his own clothes. he slid into bed, pulling up the covers and tucking pony against him, his little wheezes finally starting to lighten up.
it wasn't perfect, but maybe it didn't have to be. darry could feel pony's heart beating and the deep breaths he was pulling in, and as much as he hated that pony needed a breathing treatment to get him to that point, it was worth it. if it meant that he didn't have to wake up coughing and not able to catch his breath. maybe his lungs would never really recover, but they knew how to get him better when they needed to. it was gonna be okay.
darry was almost alseep when soda quietly opened the door, hair soft and damp after his shower and dressed a pair of darry's old sweatpants, cuffed twice at the bottom because of how long they were. darry waved him over, and soda smiled, piling in next to his brothers and wrapping himself around pony’s other side.
“he sleeping?” soda whispered, darry barely nodded, exhaustion taking over. “good, don’t tell him i did this.”
soda pressed a gentle kiss to pony’s head and laid back down, already feeling drowsy next to his two sleeping brothers.

hey i've been following you for about a year now? maybe more :)
and i was wondering if you could do a loki x asthmatic!reader >:]
maybe where she uses a nebulizer (a machine that funnels air into a tube that turns the medicine in the compartment to turn into something you can breathe in, it tends to make your heart rate go up and legs and arms shake from the high heart rate.) and he's like what are you doing and she's like i can't breathe so. and then he's like okay. but then when she's done he notices how she's shaking
Breathing
Loki x reader
Loki has seen many strange inventions throughout his time on Midgard, he still remembers thor telling him about the awful experience he had the first time he got dragged to a Midgardian hospital.
Loki of course thought his brother was being dramatic and brushed it off, then he saw the stuff that goes on in the medical field himself.
There was no judgment but sometimes he was straight up confused, you did the best to explain to him why certain things has to be done and he tried for the life of him to understand the approach from a regular human prospective.
Although that didn’t take away how concerned he can get when he sees a side affect to something that is supposedly to help.
Like the weird device you had at your home, this did not look…familiar?
"You say this helps?"
You nod your head while using your device and he stares quietly, he watches until you’re done then when he notices you’re shaking he gets up to go to your side but your stop him.
"I’m ok, I’m ok…I’ll be fine, don’t worry" He frowns and sits back down but keeps a close eye on you and takes ahold of your hand in his.
"Do you have to use this?"
"Yes"
"I don’t know feel comfortable with the way you react afterwards, it looks like it’s draining you more than helping"
You chuckle and cough a little "I know but nothing I can do but listen to the doctor instructions, we don’t want my condition to worsen now, do we?" You gave his hand a squeeze and smiled up at him.
He looked slightly doubtful but he trusted you more than his doubt of Midgardian modern medicine tricks.
"I’m only ok with this because you say it’s ok, otherwise I think it has too many flaws for my dove to use" he pulled you onto his lap and held you close to his chest "if we were on Asgard you wouldn’t feel a thing and everything would be ethnic too!"
You chuckled laying your head on his shoulder "I know I know my prince, but some of us are less unfortunate than others so I’ll take what I can get to stay healthy, health care is already expensive"
"That’s rubbish" he rolled his eyes.
"It sure is" you sighed when you felt his lips press on your temple tenderly.

Flare Up (Daredevil Fan Fic)
Tumblr media
Pairing: Matt Murdock x Asthmatic Reader
Summary: You have a flare up of asthma along with a cold. Matt takes care of you.
Warning(s): Descriptions of asthma and cold symptoms, fluff
Author's Note: The description of asthma is based on my own experience, including a flare up over the last couple of days.

Flare Up
You woke up feeling terrible. Your entire torso ached like someone had been kicking you. That dull ache turned to pain when you started coughing. Deep, hacking coughs that felt like they lasted forever. When the fit was over, you were short of breath and feeling light-headed. But now you knew why your chest hurt so much. You had been coughing in your sleep. No matter you didn’t feel like you had slept at all and why your throat felt scrapped raw.
You tried to take a deep breath but that only made you cough again. It wasn’t as long as the previous bout of coughing but it still left you aching. You could hear the wheeze in each breath. You needed to use your inhalers. You sat up and turned toward your bedside table, opening the top drawer.
The first one you grabbed was the rescue inhaler. Holding it in your hand, you started giving it a good shake but had to pause to ride out another coughing fit. When it stopped, you finished giving the inhaler its shake. Raising it to your mouth, you took a breath at the same time as you pressed down on the canister. You took a few more breaths, then another puff from the inhaler.
You sat it down, grimacing. You hated the taste of the medicine. You were more neutral about the way it made your heart race and gave you the sensation that you were trembling even when you weren’t. But you accepted all of that for the easing of the tightness in your chest. It didn’t magically fix everything. You were still coughing. Your entire chest and back still hurt. The medicine in your rescue inhaler couldn’t really effect the inflammation deeper in your lungs.
If you kept having this much trouble breathing, you would do a breathing treatment. It was the same kind of medicine but the nebulizer machine helped it get further into your lungs. If you remembering what the doctor had told you correctly. You thought it might be a larger dose than your inhaler delivered but you couldn’t remember.
You grabbed your second inhaler, the maintenance one which held a different, longer-acting medicine. But when you pressed down on the canister, you got nothing. Feeling confused, you took a closer look and realized that it was out of doses. A quick check of drawer didn’t reveal a box with a new one in it. How, you had that prescription on auto-fill at the pharmacy . . . then you remembered. You had gotten the text telling you that your prescription was ready but had forgotten to go pick it up. It had been hectic week.
The opposing party had backed out of the pending settlement agreement at the last minute. One of their new case had Burke & Winthrop Associates on the other side – something that made all of you groan. Not because you couldn’t take them but because they were always a massive pain in the ass. Spider-Man’s girlfriend had been accused of punching a cop. Not that the cops knew about the girlfriend part but you did. This meant a certain amount of hovering from the aforementioned vigilante, both in and out of costume. Not because he didn’t trust Nelson & Murdock to help his girlfriend but because Peter, like Matt, was a worrier. It didn’t help that the ADA was dragging their feet about providing certain discovery materials – like the officer’s body cam footage . . .
His hovering had come in handy the other night when, due to some complicated series of events that you still weren’t clear on, something had started making a loud, ear-piercing shriek. The criminals, who hadn’t been expecting it either, had their hands clapped tightly over their ears. But Matt was completely down, writhing on the ground and almost biting off his tongue trying not to scream. Now Spider-Man wasn’t a huge fan of loud noises either but he darted over anyway. Got the noise stopped, webbed up the criminals, and hauled Matt back home. It took the rest of night for the resulting vicious migraine to subside.
You had felt a little off yesterday but you had chalked it up to being tired. It had been busy week. You had stayed up helping take care of Matt during his migraine. You had decided to stay the night in your apartment last night beside knowing that you slept better at Matt’s because you were still paying rent on the place and it seemed silly to never stay there . . .
You wrapped yourself up in your robe, put on a pair of fuzzy socks, and shuffled toward the kitchen. Hot drinks always eased your symptoms during an asthma flare up. The normally quick task of putting on coffee went slowly because the slightest hint of exertion left you feeling short of breath and brought on another coughing fit.
While the coffee brewed, you went into the bathroom. You hadn’t noticed it immediately – feeling like you could barely breath had understandably distracted you – but you might also gotten sick. You were a little congested. Your face felt tender across the top of your cheeks and forehead. There was feeling of pressure in your ears. All things you had experienced when you had a cold or similar infection. But sometimes seasonal allergies gave you the same symptoms.
Illness, allergies, or both could have easily triggered this flare up.
You took a pill for an allergy relief along with a multi-symptom cold. Unfortunately it was the last dose of cold medicine. You would have to get more before this one wore off. You were not looking forward to it. But maybe you could get some fresh lemons while you were getting your medicine. Hot tea with honey and lemon always felt so good on your throat when it was this sore. You had tea and honey but no lemons . . .
Your phone started ringing. It was, of course, nowhere close to you being still hooked onto the charger on the other side of the living room. You sighed and started heading toward it. You barely managed to reach it before it switched over to voicemail, not even bothering to look at the caller ID.
“Hello?” you said, wincing at how bad your voice sounded. Croaky as a frog.
“Sweetheart, you sound terrible.”
Matt. And he sounded like he had already slipped into worrywart mode.
“Matches how I feel,” you said, then winced for another reason. It hurt to talk.
“What’s wrong?”
“Asthma flare up,” you said. “Cold.”
You felt a tickle in your throat. You tried to swallow, to prevent the oncoming coughing fit and making Matt more worried than he already was. But you couldn’t stop it. Worse luck, it was a bad one. The coughs were deep, barking, seemed to have no end in sight. You couldn’t breath. Darkness crept into your vision and the room swayed . . . then it stopped. You could take a breath. A ragged, thin breath but a breath.
You leaned against the wall, rubbing your chest. That one really hurt. Your chest felt like it was on fire and your throat felt like you had tried to gurgle with glass. Tears pricked at your eyes . . .
Then you realized that you had dropped your phone. Bending down to pick it up didn’t help with your dizziness but you had to get it before Matt had an actual heart attack. As it was, you wouldn’t be surprised if he was already darting out of the door to parkour to your apartment.
You heard his fanatic voice before your phone got up to your ear.
“-heart, answer me!”
“I’m here,” you said. “I’m fine.”
“No, you aren’t,” he retorted.
Which was fair. Hearing your own voice – wheezy, faint, and croaky as a frog – you wouldn’t believe you either.
“I’m coming over.”
“Matt,” you started to protest, not wanting him to get sick, but was cut off by another bout of coughing. Not as bad or as long this time but so close on the heels on the previous one, it hurt just as bad. Some of the tears escaped your eyes.
“I’m coming over,” he repeated, his voice firm and unyielding. You gave up trying to argue. It would be a total waste of energy. You recognized that tone. Matt had found his hill. He was ready and willing to die on it.
“Okay,” you said.
“Have you used your inhalers?”
“Yes.”
He made annoyed noise. “Partial lie.”
“Used rescue inhaler,” you retorted.
“What about the other one?”
“Out of doses.”
“Don’t you have that on auto-fill?”
“Yes,” you said. “Forgot to pick it up.”
You swallowed, trying to sooth your throat. Your voice was getting rougher.
“I’ll get it,” he said. “Do you need anything else?”
“Medicine,” you said. “Lemon.”
“Get some rest sweetheart,” he said. “I’ll be there soon.”
“Okay,” you agreed. Rest sounded really good right now. Your bed had more pillows and blankets but the couch was much closer. You shuffled over to it, wrapped yourself in the cuddling blanket and sat down. You rested your head against the back and closed your eyes. You were just going to rest them for a moment . . .
You must have dozed off because the next thing you knew, the door to your apartment was opening to admit Matt, a shopping bag in his hand. Unless it was windy outside, you suspected that he had taken shortcuts getting here. His hair had that windblown quality you associated with him using his ninja skills while in his civilian grab.
“Hey Matty,” you said.
“Hey sweetheart,” he said back, giving you a little smile. It wasn’t his big smile, the one that lit up his entire face. He couldn’t smile like that when he was worried. “Your lungs sound even worse up close. Maybe you should go to the hospital.”
“No.”
“Sweetheart . . .”
“No,” you repeated but was prevented from elaborating by coughing. Which probably didn’t help your case. “Just gonna tell me to do what I’m gonna do here. Rest, breathing treatment, etc.”
He didn’t look convinced. You glared at him. It didn’t matter that he couldn’t see it. It was the principle of thing.
“I’ve had asthma since I was a baby,” you said. “I know the drill.”
“Alright,” he said, either surrendering or making a strategic retreat. Probably the later. You had little doubt that he felt like your home treatment wasn’t doing enough, going to the hospital would come back and this time it would not be negotiable. “Where is your nebulizer?”
You told him where to find it and the liquid medicine. Both of which he brought to you. While you set up the machine, you started feeling like you were forgetting something. Something important . . . you suddenly bolted upright as you remembered. “Court!”
“What?” Matt asked, confused by your sudden panic.
“I have court this morning,” you said. You looked at the clock and groaned. You’d never make to the courtroom in time. “I’m going to be late.”
“No, you aren’t,” Matt said, moving back into the living room. “I called Foggy on the way here. He’s going to cover you at the hearing and the appointments that Karen can’t reschedule.”
“Really?” you said.
“Really really,” he answered.
“What about your appointments, Mr. Murdock?”
“Karen’s working on it. She’ll let me know if I need to come in.”
That was that. You finished setting up the machine, opened the capsule of medicine and poured it into the cup. You screwed on the mouthpiece and flicked on the machine. A familiar, droning and hissing sound filled the air and soon steam began to appear around the mouthpiece. You put it in your mouth and dutifully inhaled the medicine. Despite the fact that it didn’t taste any better like this than it did in puffed form. And it dried out your mouth something awful.
But you were well aware that it was either do the breathing treatment here or at the hospital. You’d rather do it here, where you were comfortable. Matt surprised you by sitting down beside you. The nebulizer wasn’t exactly loud to your ears but it wasn’t whisper-quiet either. But if the noise or the smell of the medicine bothered him, he gave no sign of it. Just rubbed your sore back and sides with his big, warm hands until the treatment was done.
Soon afterward, you had a mug of hot tea with lemon and honey in your hands. Part of you wanted coffee but knew the tea would feel better on your throat. While you sipped the tea, Matt quietly suggested putting something on and cuddling on the couch. Which you thought was best idea he had ever had.
You decided to put on a series of nature documentary, ones about the oceans. There was something about watching pretty fish and other marine critters accompanied by soft-spoken narration that you found relaxing. And that pretty much set the pattern for the day. You watched a program about ocean animals, drank hot tea or ice water, and cuddled with Matt on the couch. Sometimes you dozed off. Sometimes you coughed again and Matt’s hands would rub your back until it was over.
You didn’t have to get a single drink. It seemed like you tried to get up for anything over than a trip to the bathroom, Matt was giving you the worried face. You hated the worried face. And you had almost no defense against his big hazel eyes looking sadly at you. It helped that you didn’t really want to argue with him about pampering you all day anyway.
That pampering had extended to the hot shower you decided to take partway through the day in hopes of feeling less like crud. With how much your chest still ached, it was nice not to have to bend down to soap up your legs. Through seeing Matt on his knees in front of you, nearly naked, while the water poured down around you, gave you certain thoughts. Thoughts that you made a mental note to revisit when you felt better.
Matt washing your hair and massage your scalp eased discomfort that you hadn’t entirely realized was there until it was gone. The oversized tee shirt and sweatpants he grabbed didn’t match but you couldn’t care less. They were some of your softest, most comfortable clothing and that was more important than matching.
After Matt had dried himself off and redressed, you took the opportunity to hug him. While surprised, it didn’t take him long to return the hug.
“I love you,” you said softly, burrowing your face into his chest. His arms tightened around you, holding you closer.
“I love you too,” he said. Low and quiet, almost like he was afraid that if he said it too loud, that if anyone beside you heard how much he cared, that something awful would happen. Your arms did their own tightening.
You didn’t know how long you both stood there, in your little bubble of lingering steam and whispered confessions, before your stomach decided to ruin the mode by growling loudly. You felt your face flush but Matt just chuckled.
“Lunch?” he offered.
“Good idea,” you said.
Lunch ended up being potato soup, fresh from your favorite cafe and delivered by Karen. She let Matt know that she had managed to rearrange his schedule so he didn’t need to come in. Foggy sent the message that he hoped you were feeling better and not to order dinner since that mother would be sending over her famous chicken noodle soup. You hadn’t had it yet but Matt swore it was delicious.
He was right. It was delicious. Not complicated but it was amazing how good something could taste if made from fresh ingredients. The pumpkin cookies that she also sent along tasted just as good.
‘Being sick will always suck,’ you mused as you dozed on the couch, snuggled in Matt’s arms. ‘But sometime it doesn’t completely suck.’
Still, you felt like you should apologize a week later when Matt came down with your cold.

Health update!
Recovering (slowly) from my severe bronchitis. My doc finally took me off of prednisone (which was needed to take down swelling in my lungs and brachial tubes) today--thankfully--but I'm still on all the other meds, plus the nebulizer and the oxygen concentrator as needed. Using both of those less, too, so that's good. Been sleeping on Baby El's big play-mattress in the living room so my coughing and the noise from my breathing machines don't keep everyone else awake.
I feel bad that everyone has been waiting on me hand and foot, but there's really not much I can do about that right now. I mean, I was only able to get halfway through making coffee today before I had to give up and ask @thesurestthing to finish for me. @geniussheepworld has of course been a world of help, as well, and El brings me things as needed (as much as a three-year-old can).
And fortunately, Eleanor thinks daddy's breathing machines are pretty cool lol
So anyway, once again, my apologies if you've messaged me and I haven't responded. It's not you; it's my respiratory and immune systems.

not much to beware of...
~
it was around 9:30 in the morning when you received a message from your boyfriend's best friend and roommate.
[9:30am] eren j. : hey i jus wanna lyk that armin is sick [9:31am] eren j : he also specifically told me not to tell u [9:31am] eren j : but he also looks like complete shit [9:32am] eren j : can u come over? i have class nd have to help my mom w/ a few things, so i won't b back till late tn [9:33am] eren j. : knowing his weak ass, he'll prob pass out or throw up all over the place w/o assistance
that was all you needed to know to make your way over to their house.
eren met you half way to give you armin's keys to the house since he really wouldn't need it.
so when you made it into the house with your things, the first thing you heard was a horrible sounding cough.
it quite literally sounded as though he was up in his room dying.
you grimaced at the sound and took your shoes off, making your way upstairs to his room with your bag.
you knocked on armin's door and waited patiently.
"eren. go. away. i'm fine." armin demanded, shuffling in what sounded like his bed.
you opened the door and peaked in, seeing armin tucked under many layers of blankets.
"well don't come in you- fucking dumbass." armin groaned quietly, sneezing in the middle of his sentence.
"if i don't then how will i help you?" you asked, walking into the room and closing the door.
armin peaked out from under the covers, before groaning and tossing his head back onto the pillow.
you don't miss how he began cursing his best friend out under his breath.
"min, i thought you told me you were okay?" you asked, placing your bag down and opening it.
"i am. it's just a small cold." armin muttered, glaring at you.
armin always used the excuse of having a small cold.
it was understandable that he had a very weak immune system, but it was almost always worse than a small cold.
"babe i can hear you wheezing." you chuckled, grabbing the nebulizer you had brought with you.
you plugged it in and put the mask over his face, helping him sit up in his bed properly.
"this is unnecessary." armin glared at you once more, before closing his eyes.
you ignored him, turning on the machine and letting the noise fill your ears.
once you could see the smoke coming out, you began cleaning up all the tissues he had lingering around the room.
as well as the cough drop wrappers hanging around here and there.
you dumped them all in the garbage downstairs, before looking over at the huge container on the counter.
a note stuck to it, saying 'eat plenty of soup and get well soon -love mama jaeger' with a little doodle on the corner.
you hummed and smiled a bit, before making your way upstairs back to your unwell boyfriend.
when you made it back into the room, the machine was still on and armin looked even more upset.
you turned the machine off and helped it over his head, smiling sweetly at him.
he sent you a sarcastic smile in return.
"god- armin would it kill you to be appreciative?" you groaned, sitting on his desk chair.
"i didn't ask for this." armin groaned mockingly, nose entirely too stuffed.
you stifled a laugh at the sound of his voice.
"you don't have to ask for it. it comes with the service." you sighed, digging through his desk drawer.
armin mocked you silently, before beginning to cough violently into his elbow.
you frowned, before turning over to him and holding a bottle of dayquill in your hands.
when he finished, you poured some of the liquid into the medicine cap and placed it onto the desk.
"did you eat today?" you asked, standing up and stretching.
"nuh uh. went to the bathroom and fuckin passed out." armin frowned, rolling onto his stomach and sighing.
that must explain why eren actually texted you this time around.
he wasn't just saying possible situations when he said armin might pass out in the house taking care of himself.
you frowned and felt his forehead. he was burning up.
"i'm gonna get you some soup. eren's mom made it." you said kissing your index and middle finger before pressing it onto his nose.
armin buried his head into his pillow, red dusting over his cheeks.
you smiled at him, and went downstairs to heat the soup up on the stove.
it was pretty warm, so you could assume eren had heated it up before he left for class.
when it was hot enough, you put some in a small bowl and took it back upstairs to armin's room.
his was half asleep in his bed, now rolled onto his back with his hand over his light happy trail.
"babe." you called, pulling the chair over to his bed, and placing the soup on the nightstand.
armin let out a quiet hum of acknowledgement, looking over at you with tired blue eyes.
"come eat a bit." you said, holding up the spoon to his mouth.
armin let out a small grin, before opening his mouth and drinking the soup slowly.
you rolled your eyes and put the spoon back into the bowl, handing him the small cup with medicine in it.
after downing the medicine, armin let out a dramatic gagging noise and groaned, before tossing the cup into a unknown corner.
you sighed, crossing your arms and looking at him.
armin looked back at you and shot you a woozy smile. "instinct." he replied smoothly.
you rolled your eyes and got another spoonful of soup, pressing it to his lips.
he swallowed it with a hum, before looking at you. "can i have a dumpling? then i think i'm done." armin said.
you gave him a piece of the dumpling in the soup and watch as he hummed in content.
"thank you." armin muttered, rolling onto his stomach and nuzzling into his blanket.
after a bit, he sniffled and you noticed he was trembling.
"min are you crying?" you asked, wondering if you should take the blanket off his head.
"no! just cold." armin protested, breaking out into coughs and wheezes almost immediately after.
you sighed and tucked the blanket over him properly, turning off his fan.
almost immediately, armin was out like a light.
~
for the rest of the day, you took care of armin.
you helped him bathe, eat, and monitored him when he wanted to get up and take a short walk around the house.
he claimed he had to stretch out his legs or 'he'd become short again'.
you were sure armin had just wanted to have an arm around you, but you agreed nonetheless.
while the two were walking around in the living room, the front door opened and in came eren.
"hey. you look better than earlier, armin." eren said, flashing his best friend a smile.
"fuck you, you fuckin snitch." armin scoffed, coughing into his elbow.
eren rolled his eyes and tossed his bag onto the couch, sticking his middle finger up at him.
"you should be happy i called. you look so much better." eren said, gesturing to his face.
armin rolled his eyes, muttering 'i could've gotten better on my own time' to himself.
eren chuckled and took a seat, turning on the tv and digging through his bag. "ma said to feel better. here." eren muttered, before pulling out a brown bag.
armin took it from him and peaked inside, before smiling.
it was a fresh container of soup and those little noodle chips along with it.
"your mom is so amazing ." armin muttered, popping open the container and beginning to eat the soup already.
eren mocked him and rolled his eyes, flipping through the screen.
"you have enough energy to watch power with me?" eren asked, looking at his best friend.
"fuck yeah i do. sit baby." armin sniffled, patting the seat next to him.
eren had pressed play on the latest episode, getting comfortable on the long end of the couch.
in the middle of the show, armin let out a loud sneeze, followed by loud coughs.
"ew. take that shit upstairs." eren groaned, looking towards his best friend with fake disgust.
armin said nothing, just reached his hand out to wipe his snot on eren's arm.
the male screeched in disgust, launching himself over the side of the couch and glaring at armin.
"what the fuck?!" eren questioned, wiping the snot off and flicking it back on armin.
of course, wiping the excess off on armin's cheek.
armin huffed and stood up, before coughing dead in eren's face
they were both definitely going to be sick and exhausted by tomorrow morning, you were sure of it.

Wonderful.
Medicare won't cover my nebulizer medication. What's a nebulizer? It's the machine some of asthmatics has that requires you either wear a little mask or use a mouthpiece and it give a higher and more concentrated dose of albuterol. That medicine is used for treating asthma attacks as well as severe asthma. The only pharmacy that carries said medicine in my area is Walgreens. It costs $73, which I don't have. This is ridiculous!
Ugh.
Well, let's hope smoke doesn't get too bad in my area. An emergency inhaler isn't enough when wildfire smoke decides to camp out, which it usually does when August rolls in. Bleh.
I'll see about acquiring free samples of the medicine from the allergy and asthma clinic on Monday when I go in for my allergy shot and a followup appointment regarding my asthma. The doctor wants me on another medicine, but all the medicines she wants to put me on contain milk proteins, which are used to hide the nasty taste of the medicine. Milk proteins make my eczema flare up like fireworks on New Year's Eve. That, and I develop a nasty ball of snot in the back of my throat and constantly have to clear it out. This results in frequent coughing and spitting out phlegm, and my voice sounds like RFK Jr's. It's awful! I will not use that shit again. It's been two months since the last time I used it, and I'm still dealing with itchy painful eczema patches. It's especially bad in my ear canals.
Please don't send money. I'd rather you purchase my work either as a commission or from my shop. My focus is paying off debt right now, and money left over from the purchase will cover medicine and a debt payment.
Thank you.

so last week i took my dog for her regular scheduled check up (so i could give her the yearly vaccines), and the vet was like hm. this dog has a fever. hm. there's odd noise coming from her lungs. here give her these antibiotics and i will give her an injection to make the fever go down and also ask you to bring the dog back for blood tests and x-rays. i say okay, and pay 22k for all of it.
i go back, get my dog's blood drawn, get her x-rayed, pay 25k for both things. total of 47k so far. i am infinitely thankful i have a job that makes me earn enough money that i am not forever in debt after paying for all of this. (i am still in debt)
i took my dog to the vet again today. turns out my dog has PNEUMONIA, and NO ONE noticed because she did not have A SINGLE SYMPTOM. she was still playing and running and cheerful and eating as normal. the only thing that could potentially be a symptom is that my dog sometimes does the reverse-sneeze thing. sometimes. i still feel guilty thinking i should've noticed sooner, but also knowing i am being ridiculous because i take my dog to regular scheduled appointments and treat her better than i treat myself.
anyway.
so the vet prescribed more antibiotics for the dog, and another round of injections, and told me that i needed to either do nebulizations (impossible since i don't have a machine for that and doing the boiling water in pot + towel on top of head is kinda dangerous), or create a sauna for my dog so that the damp hot air helps loosen up the mucus enough for my dog to cough out. i pay another 20k. okay.
i said, okay, sauna time i guess, but then i didn't want to waste water by running the shower with no one using it (i don't have enough pots to effectively create the sauna effect in the bathroom). i, again, said okay, i will shower while my dog is in the bathroom, that way a) my dog gets her sauna b) i don't waste water.
but here's the thing. here's the fucking thing. IT'S FUCKING SUMMER. IT'S 33°C DEGREES OUTSIDE. MY BATHROOM FEELS LIKE A DUTCH OVEN AND I AM STUCK INSIDE, SHOWERING WITH STEAMING HOT WATER, BECAUSE MY DOG NEEDS A SAUNA FOR HER TINY LITTLE LUNGS. AND NOW I AM FEELING WOOZY FROM THE HEAT BUT I ALSO CAN'T TURN ON A FAN OR THE AC BECAUSE. AGAIN. MY DOG HAS PNEUMONIA. I CAN'T BLAST HER TINY LITTLE BODY WITH COLD AIR.

you know how last week @snowflakechallenge had us make a list of fandom stuff we'd like to see happen? well yesterday it was "create a fanwork" and
here's my take on "Machine Herald deals with Naph coming down with a cough", untitled little genfic that'll probably need editing later (also if someone else still wants to spin their own take on that prompt please please please please do so?)
Naph interrupts his work to cough into his sleeve. Again.
Everyone down there coughs now and then; it's a fact of life in Zaun. Everyone, even the chembarons who use breathing masks like the pilties they've all but became. The only exception is those who have entirely replaced their respiratory system as a last resort--being the only one to offer such services, the Machine Herald is well-aware of the fact, and there are not many of them. The air is cleaner now than it's been up to a decade ago, thanks to filters more performants, more numerous, better maintained. At least, the air less aggressive than it was, but it's still a far shout from clean. Infections are still common even if thankfully outright Sump Rot and Lung Blight are on the decrease.
Still. With Naph today it's happened already too much in too little time. More than the boy usually does. A persistent cough, coupled with glassy eyes and a slight slowness in his work... Viktor fires up a thermal sensor and checks: and there's a moderate fever. A minor infection then; no need to fret.
As he's suppressed his fear response he does not worry anyway, whatever the situation, only takes in facts and acts on them. But even if he still could worry there would be no cause here and now.
Naph tries to hide the affliction, of course. That's children of Zaun for you. They learn very young, way too young, to hide weakness. When asking for help goes unanswered, you rely on ourself only. Naph is no different. Viktor himself, so long ago, wasn't either. It doesn't mean that they should keep on that way.
Why does Viktor care about this one more than others? He cares about the nebulous concept of "the children of Zaun should live in better conditions". What makes this one different is that he's not afraid of him. Well... back when they first met he was afraid of The Machine Herald but willing to see for himself the rumors' basis and to learn more. And also, to get rid of his fear when it impeded him. Clever boy. That was a good start. Naph came back time and again. He does want to learn. And so... Viktor admits that he got used to his presence. Having no emotions he can't say that he enjoys sharing knowledge and encouraging learning. But it's logical to want to form apt minds to do the good work.
Also, he's built a sense of familiarity out of Naph. Even though he's only one out of many street urchins. Having no emotions, again, he's not afraid he'll die, he would not be upset should he die. Not more upset than at any other failure--every and any preventable death is a failure. So why would this one be worse? ...maybe because of the personal investment he's been making in his education, should it go to waste.
Still. This cough. It's not nothing but it's not dire. And it still needs adressing.
When Naph coughs again, Viktor puts a stop on whatever he was doing. "That's it. No workshop for you today." "What! But..." "I won't have you coughing all over this prototype, spray particules on delicate circuitry and mess up soldering whenever a fit interrupts you."
One could hold up a finger from any hand to emphasize a point and of course The Machine Herald does so with his freakng Hexclaw from extra emphasis. That's final.
Naph does not want to be sent home, that's obvious. Viktor never asked what home was for the boy, if home existed at all, if anyone will take care of him there. Naph is also afraid of being confined to bed, deemed uselss. Neither will happen. Viktor put a stop on the working and even the learning but prefers to keep him close as long as needed.
The bits he was tinkering with are swept away and replaced byt a hot drink--not sweetmilk this time but some nasty tea, heaped with honey that doesn't entirely mask its bitterness. A cold compress os offered--fever is the body's natural response against illness--Viktor is no medical doctor but opines it's better to let it run its course and to suppress it only if too high or gets too uncomfortable. There is no use in feeling crappy if one can help it after all, there's no glory in suffering--after all he offers time and again to anyone wulling to evolve past the possibilities of suffering!
So Naph has to rest even if he doesn't take well the idea of staying idle under his mentor's watchful eye. On different circumstances he would gladly take the oportunity to slack off... if there were no immediate consequences at least. But letting down The Machine Herald by not being up to... whatever expectations he had? There is no expectation on you, at least not today, except for you to get better. And that's out of your hands anyway. Defeated, Naph agrees he won't be able to do anything too hard. Light reading it is then, something that even looks merely recreational--yet Viktor assures him that no no there are history and life lessons in it and swears it is educational. That it's not slacking off.
Naph won't even ask how comes The Machine Herald ever got less-educational reading materials in the first place. After making faces at his tea however he finds the never to ask, "And so, you won't give a copper head for that?" "I won't." He will not give him even wire mesh lungs. At least not yet. Hopefully never. As he did on himself to replace his own failing lungs back in the days. Luckily Naph shouldn't need that. This is only a cold. And sure chest colds can get nasty, but it's not chem lung. (Not yet.) And even if, caught early there are ways to slow the progress down, and when it's progressed too far, to graft replacements. But with more luck, by the time Naph grows up chem lung won't even happen anymore?
"Now, we've had this conversation already and we can have it again when you're better ('cause he will get better--the odds are all in his favour) if you want me to give you copper-plated cranial augments..." Naph snorts, laughs, coughs again and laughs some more and manages to cut Viktor's speech short.

Castle fanfiction
Why did you elbow me? 72
Out of breath
Dr Kenny: pov As i walk into the exam room i can tell Kate is having a bad coughing fit, I ask her husband Rick about her heart condition he says it is arrhythmia, Kate was shot on the left side of her chest which caused her to flat line in the ambulance. The bullet nicked her left inferior pulmonary vein causing Tension pneumothorax on her left side requiring a chest tube. It Caused her pericardium to distend compressing her heart. The Bullet grazed her ventricle causing Kate to bleed into her heart causing a cardiac tampon resulting in vfib/flat line causing her to go into cardiac arrest during emergency thoracotomy surgery on her heart. Kate uses an ampstrip to monitor her heart rate. I listen to her heart and lungs. I can tell her coughing is causing her pain and making it harder for her to breathe. She is rubbing her chest since it's bothering her. The hospital had called her cardiologist Dr Burkett to keep him informed. A Dr Livingston who is a cardiologist in this hospital is coming to check on Kate and run some heart tests on her to make sure this is not a heart attack.
Kate: pov all of these wires are getting in my way Dr Livingston is doing a heart ultrasound and an EKG on me. In the exam room he squirts the very cold gel on my chest and moves the wand around. He says he sees some swelling but no signs of a heart attack He says the Echocardiogram looks good, which is fantastic. It means i'm not having a major heart issue next he hooks me up to an EKG. Dr Livingston says the EKG shows my heart rate is elevated. Dr Kenny gives me cough and pain meds on top of the respiratory virus ones. He also schedules me for an X-ray and MRI to see if he can see what is going on. The machine For the MRI and X-ray is so loud and claustrophobic. Once I'm settled in my room on the cardiac ward, Castle calls the boys to tell them he had to call 911 because I was having chest pain. He says I was just admitted to the hospital. I can hear Ryan ask if it's contagious, the virus because he knows Jenny would love to visit.
Castle: pov A nurse comes in the room so I tell Ryan I have to go. Turns out Jenny has off today for an obgyn appointment which was this morning. Ryan says she is stopping by around lunch. Dr Livingston comes in her room with the results of her scans he says it's a pulled muscle from coughing and to put ice on it.
Jenny: pov in the cardiac ward, I go up to the nurse station and ask the lady what room Kate is in she gives me the number . Once in her room I put the flowers down, Kate looks ruff. Castle says the respiratory virus is clearing up okay, it's the cough they are worried about. All of a sudden Kate starts having a coughing episode, the pain is written all over her face, Castleis holding an ice pack to her chest.
Kate: pov my chest is killing me who knew coughing could hurt so much. A nurse comes in and gives me a nebulizer treatment. Castle called my dad this morning. He will be coming by tonight or tomorrow. Alexis was nice enough before class to stop by and drop off some stuff for me. Jenny is telling me how her appointment went.
Castle: pov one of the nurses is the same one from last time, i ask if it's possible to bring down a rocking chair again. It might help calm her down, she says sure, i make sure to go to the bathroom first. Once I'm sitting down in the rocking chair with Kate lying across me, the nurse checks her oxygen mask to make sure it's on right, I put on a movie for us 3 to watch. It's a classic. Lanie should be coming home some time today. Dr Livingston comes in and checks her vitals he also injects some more pain meds and another med into her IV saying, this med should help slow her heart beat down so it does not have to struggle so much with the coughing. Esposito texts me that he and Ryan are stopping by on their lunch break. A few minutes later Kate is fast asleep on me, with her fuzzy blanket.
Esposito: pov the nurse at the recipient desk tells us which room Kate is in, it's so sad that she is back in the Er because she is sick, the lady said Kate is here because she had chest pain that is why she was brought in. On the cardiac ward the nurse mentions Kate is asleep, Ryan texts Jenny to see if she is still here, turns out she went to get food while Kate slept.
Ryan: pov me and Esposito agree we don't want to wake Kate, we find Jenny getting some food so we join her for a bit, she tells us how Kate is doing. I say goodbye to Jenny since she is going baby shopping. On the way back to Kate's room we hear coughing. Within seconds a Dr is in her room checking on her, Castle has Kate sitting up and is patting her back. Her Dr mentions she needs to eat something with her meds he suggests a fruit smoothie and if she eats it all she might be allowed out of bed.
Kate: pov Castle helps me back to bed, my tummy is bothering me, a nurse comes in with a fruit smoothie for me to drink, she tells me to take small sips because with the coughing I could choke, she temporarily switches me to nasal oxygen, the boys talk about how boring their day is going, once I'm finished with it she gives me my nebulizer treatment and some more pain pills. To be continued. …….

Benefits of Using a Portable Nebulizer
1. Convenient On-the-Go Treatment
The primary advantage of using a portable nebulizer is the convenience it offers. Whether you’re traveling for work, on vacation, or simply running errands, having a portable device allows you to manage your respiratory condition without the need to be tethered to a stationary machine. This flexibility is especially valuable for individuals with busy, active lifestyles.
2. Faster Symptom Relief
Pharmaquipt’s portable nebulizers are designed to deliver medication quickly, providing fast relief from symptoms. This is crucial for individuals experiencing sudden asthma attacks or flare-ups of other respiratory conditions. With a portable nebulizer, you can receive treatment immediately, no matter where you are.
3. Increased Independence
For many individuals, managing a chronic respiratory condition can feel limiting. A portable nebulizer offers increased independence by allowing patients to administer their treatment whenever and wherever they need it. This empowers individuals to take control of their health without relying on others or being confined to their home.
4. Suitable for All Ages
Whether for young children, adults, or the elderly, Pharmaquipt’s portable nebulizers are designed to be versatile and user-friendly. The ease of use and fast treatment delivery make them an excellent choice for individuals of all ages who require respiratory therapy.
Choosing the Right Portable Nebulizer: What to Look For
1. Portability and Size
When selecting a portable nebulizer, consider its size and weight. Pharmaquipt offers models that are compact and easy to carry, making them ideal for individuals who are frequently on the move. A smaller, lightweight device is easier to handle and store, ensuring that you can bring it with you wherever you go.
2. Battery Life and Power Options
Battery life is another important factor to consider. A portable nebulizer with a long-lasting battery ensures that you won’t run out of power in the middle of treatment. Look for devices that offer both rechargeable batteries and the option to plug into a power source for extended use.
3. Ease of Cleaning and Maintenance
A nebulizer that is difficult to clean can lead to the buildup of bacteria and mold, posing a risk to your health. Pharmaquipt’s portable nebulizers are designed for easy disassembly, allowing for thorough cleaning and maintenance. Regular cleaning ensures the longevity of the device and maintains its effectiveness in delivering medication.
4. Medication Delivery Speed
The speed at which a nebulizer delivers medication is crucial, especially during a respiratory emergency. Pharmaquipt’s portable nebulizers are engineered to deliver medication quickly and efficiently, reducing the time it takes to complete a treatment session. This is particularly important for individuals who need to manage their symptoms in a short amount of time.
5. Durability and Build Quality
A portable nebulizer is an investment in your health, so it's essential to choose a device that is durable and built to last. Pharmaquipt ensures that all our nebulizers are made from high-quality materials, providing long-term reliability and performance, even with frequent use.

Feeling a bit better today. Not coughing as much, although I still sound like Tom Waits when I try to speak above a whisper. Dome with antibiotics for now, and I only have to use the oxygen machine a couple of hours a day now, as long as I remember to use the nebulizer and take my other meds. You can still see the droopy eye that long Covid gifted me with. *sigh* Also gonna take a while to get rid of the prednisone bloating. And my GODS I need to trim my beard and hair!
And in case you didn't know, my health has been deteriorating quickly and badly, so we're trying to get back to the US so I can use my Medicare and VA benefits to address my numerous medical issues, because otherwise I will likely not live long enough to watch my daughter grow up. If you'd like to help, please see this post.
