'Someday' Chronicles Rhino Hero's Inspiring Legacy, selected for KIFF

Vishal P Chaliha’s latest short film ‘Someday’ has found an honourable place in the forthcoming Kolkata International Film Festival. This is a short environmental documentary film on the retired Forest Conservator of Forest Shri Dharanidhar Boro who served in the Assam Forest Department. This film presents how Dharanidhar Boro tried to curb rhino poaching primarily in Manas and Kaziranga National Park with his non-violent way of handling rhino poachers. Dharanidhar Boro served for many years in the Agoratoli Range of Kaziranga National Park where he established a school for the villagers. The villagers living near the national park have always been influenced by rhino horn smugglers to help them locate and kill rhinos. Dharanidhar Boro endeavoured to build a positive connection with the villagers, shielding them from the influence of wrongdoers.

Director Vishal P Chaliha

Director Vishal P Chaliha is a writer and actor from Guwahati. His first feature film Sijou (2021) premiered at the 52nd International Film Festival of India in the Indian Panorama section.  ‘Someday’ (2023) is the second film he has directed. Now, Vishal is working on his next feature film. He is playing a character in an upcoming film of Rima Das.

Producer Priyam Chaliha

Priyam Chaliha, is an active producer of film and TV programmes.  Her film ‘Tai Phake’ was awarded the National Film Award and she was also one of the producers of the film Sijou. Someday is her latest work.

Sugathakumari (22 January 1934 – 23 December 2020) was an Indian poet and activist, who was at the forefront of environmental and feminist movements in Kerala, South India. Her parents were the poet and freedom fighter Bodheswaran and V. K. Karthiyayini Amma, a Sanskrit scholar. She was the founder secretary of the Prakrithi Samrakshana Samithi, an organisation for the protection of nature, and of Abhaya, a home for destitute women and a day-care centre for the mentally ill. She chaired the Kerala State Women's Commission. She played a prominent role in the Save Silent Valley protest.

You think I was done talking about this? Think again!

What people dont know is that the increase in our global temperatures actually get mediated by the ocean. The ocean controls weather and storms for the most part.. dont know why we are having wild thundering angry hurricanes? Well the ocean now lives with a constant fever.

2°C has caused most of the coral to die.. and about 1 million people are dependant on the ecology coral brings.

We have to take a stand. We have to watch our carboon foot print.

What can we do? Reuse, recycle, be mindful. Do you really need that straw in your drink? Maybe swap your toothbrush for bamboo one? Carpool. Cycle. Meatless Monday. The list is endless. One small life change, is still change. It still contributes… and most of all, spread the word. Our oceans need us. We have as much water in our body as our oceans.. we are more alike than we are different. No more silence!
