Here is an image from an abandoned trail off the beaten path, nearest a local lake in the midst of Tennessee. I will not disclose the proper location due to probably not being allowed off the path, though the rangers we ran into later didn’t seem to mind. More so after my friends and I had explained that we were walking about the area to clean up. Which in light was absolute truth. 

Upon our trek into the woods around the lake, winter had still had much of a grasp on the area and we were in search of bones and other oddities. As we picked up our own findings to take back, which in all honesty was a beautiful haul. We had equally given back to nature by picking up what many others had left behind. It’s honestly unfortunate to see so much litter when you’re just trying to enjoy nature and all its wonders. Plenty of what we found had come from hunters and even squatters, other items seemed to have come around due to flooding. Some of the bottles we found were terribly dated, perhaps even from as early as the 70′s. 

No matter where or when it came from we cleaned up all we could. Sadly it wasn’t enough to make the biggest dent, but it was a start. 

Be wary as I’m not encouraging you to go off beaten paths, not all park rangers can be kind about such an act. More so if they find out you’re taking anything home. That being said we did have to show what we were attempting to place in recycling while on our way out. Sadly some people like to come from their homes and toss their own trash into the bins. Though it was evident that what we cleaned up had been covered in mud, moss and then some from the natural forest. Sadly next to none of it could be recycled, which saddened us. Luckily the kind ranger took the bags off our hands and placed it in his truck for later disposal. 

At very least it was great to get it out of the forest. We often try to carry the trash on the way out from our trips. Always keep these beautiful places as clean as when you came or cleaner. A little goes a long way. Even one bag at a time.

I’m here just to explore hiking and trails with you. As well as plant life, gear and all the wonders of the outdoors. Even if you’d like to trade gardening knowledge.
