Apparently I can meet my goal of roughly 400,000 words in 6 months if I just somehow write at least 2,200 words a day ghbjh... Almost 2,500 today... huzzah...
#Definitely not going to be able to stick with it just due to like... being realistic about my energy levels and etc. ESPECIALLY as we#enter the Evil Summer and it becomes hot all the time. But... one can attempt.. at least...#I'm also a very slow writer since I tend to re-read and edit while I write. and only move onto the next section once what I'm writing#seems okay. Which is easy for visual novel type stuff. since ''sections'' of a conversation are more clearly marked (like if you#have a menu option with 5 different dialogue choices. finish the character's response for choice 1 before moving onto 2. etc.)#Especially since when I'm done with a whole quest I always follow it up by playing through it and picking every option and making sure it#actually all works okay and etc. So I am already going to see it all a second time. Then I can go back and reorder a few words or remove#certain sentences that don't sound natural when I read them out loud (I always read it all outloud to myself since it is... just peple#talking.. it should sound like natural dialogue in their voice. etc). But my ''first draft'' is kind of not as first drafty since I pause t#edit a lot as I go along. So it also takes longer probably than it would take other people who I think treat a first draft as more#of a loose guideline or something. AANYWAY...#80F in my bedroom right now again... huzzah... I did end up finishing and recording that sims build video before the heat wave (or is#it really a heat wave if it's just summer..?? lol) came in.. but now... augh.. the editing... plus the costume photos and all else... Much#to do as always.. Often such a long todo list.. a giant scroll hung upon the walls of the evil hermit wizard tower..#Anyhow.. I hope I can finish getting ready for bed early in time to reward myself with a game of tripeaks solitaire whilst I snack on#cheddar cheese and some of those preserved artichokes in a jar. hrgm... I actually have nasturtiums (ultimate best flower) on the#deck again this year but I had to move them all into a corner today because the leaves were getting burnt by the sun lol.. Also am now more#cautiously weaving through social media to ignore all dragon age news. NOT bc of spoilers (I actually love spoilers/literally never play#any game until there's full guides on it I can read to plan my entire playthrough based on knowing exactly what I want to happen lol + mods#and etc.) but just because I'm so busy with my ownprojects I simply do not have the brainspace to dedicate... Yes I love to think#about elves and fictional universe lore. but no.. I pretend I do not see it. Does not exist to me actually. ghgj.. OHH also took som#cool pictures of flowers in the garden section of a store and I wanted to do like.. character designs based on the colors of the flowers o#something. but that might just be another unnecessary project to add to the pile.. I want to commit to the daunting task of dyeing my#hair again some time.. hrm.. this is all of the updates I can think of. As if a bunch of random tags make up for never posting anything for#weeks on end lol.. alas.. too warm to think properly I suppose.. .. I neeeeeed a long lost relative to leave me some million dollar#estate in their will so I can have the resources to move to a colder climate or something ..augh#.. but for now.. I shall toil away in my little wizard tower trying to write 2000 something words a day whilst sweating and such ghbj

this post is under a cut in case anyone would consider it to be DA:D spoilers, as the things it mentions came from the leak a year ago (spoiler warning for link) that included screenshots and a gif of the game. (the things this post mentions are therefore not new information and this does not reference a new leak)
I'm just thinking again about Rook (which seems to be the PC's name or title) and the imagery conjured by the name. ◕‿◕ this post is just speculation and overanalyzing for fun. also this post is a now-finished draft from my draft section from a while back.
I think it would work as a surname (like "Hawke") or a codename (think Leliana's spies and contacts such as "Butler", "Farrier", "Butcher", "Charter", etc although these are all professions that end in "-er" or "or" iirc). it could also be a title (like Warden, Hero, Champion, Inquisitor, Herald) or a nickname - like maybe it's short for "Rookie", it's a Varric-assigned nickname and it references how the DA:D PC is the newest member of the team after he recruits them?
I think it sounds catchy, and cool - it's snappy and short, Hawke-like in this way. and it sounds like the kind of name a spy or secret agent might have in a fantasy, superhero or sci-fi-type setting.
a rook is a black bird, Corvus frugilegus, a member of the corvid family. rooks have been perceived as vermin and nuisances by people in the past, and persecuted due to this. they bear a resemblance to their crow and raven relatives, both birds which have a large cultural footprint and lots of symbolism in areas such as folklore and art. Hawke obviously also had a bird motif going on from their surname and associated art pieces. corvids also bring to mind the Antivan Crows (assassins, thieves, & spies), reminding of the stuff about how in this game the PC may be trying to operate under the radar, and the reporting on a previous iteration of DA:D which had the game concept as being focused on spies and heists. rook plumage is inky black, bringing to mind darkness and shadow.
from the bird angle, a "rook" sounds neat opposite a "wolf" imo. wolves are obviously another animal that have large footprints in culture, myth and folklore. in the natural world there is symbiosis sometimes between wolves and corvids when hunting/feeding. there are lots of photos of wolves and corvids together.
a colony of rooks is called a rookery. of course, the fortress of Skyhold has a rookery. it's from there that Inquisition Spymaster Leliana operates (operated) sending her black birds on missions with letters and messages to her many agents and spies throughout Thedas. what if Rook is one of Leliana's... "rooks"? a spy or agent of the remnants of the Inquisition.
Tumblr media
A rook is also defined as "A cheat or swindler; someone who betrays" [noun], "mist, fog" [noun] and "to cheat or swindle" [verb]. it's also a type of trick-taking card game. these sorts of things bring to mind a rogueish, stealthy aspect, and the shady, shadowy dealings and card-game played in Minrathous Shadows.
a rook is also a chess piece. they're castle-like (since "rook" can also mean a castle or fortification) and usually have their top in the shape of a battlement. they can move in any direction along a rank or file on a chessboard on which they stand (horizontal/vertical, not diagonal). they can also do the "castling" move. in history, rooks have also been called towers, castles, rectors and marquesses. in chess, each player starts the game with two rooks at opposite ends of the first rank. chess itself is a game of strategy and tactics. "the chessmaster" as a trope is a character type who manipulates events, tugging on strings and moving 'pieces' into place on a metaphorical chessboard. [Solas' DA:I dialogue about his past, like the one he has with Sera about cells of spies/agents, hark to this]
in the castling move,
"Castling is a move in chess. It consists of moving the king two squares toward a rook on the same rank and then moving the rook to the square that the king passed over. Castling is permitted only if neither the king nor the rook has previously moved; the squares between the king and the rook are vacant; and the king does not leave, cross over, or finish on a square attacked by an enemy piece. Castling is the only move in chess in which two pieces are moved at once."
castling rules often cause confusion, even occasionally among high-level players. historically the move has its roots in the "king's leap", of which there were two forms and which arose in part it seems due to increasing importance of king safety as other pieces were given increased powers through time as the game developed. "the king would move once like a knight, or the king would move two squares on its first move. The knight move might be used early in the game to get the king to safety or later in the game to escape a threat." basically it moves the king away to safety and the rook to a more active position. there is also kingside castling and queenside castling. I wonder, symbolically.. is Rook more the king's rook, or the queen's rook? (reminds me of the Left Hand and Right Hands of the Divine hh). who or what is the king in this hypothetical analogy? the World of Thedas itself? as a castle or fortress.. Rook is the bulwark against what's to come? [over-thinking ik ik, tis just for fun hh].
by now we're all familiar with the chess game Solas plays in banter dialogue with Iron Bull during DA:I. in the in-world chess game, rooks are called towers. Solas moves his right-hand tower once. at a later point in the game, Iron Bull's "Arishok" piece takes Solas' left-hand tower, getting a check and leaving him feeling triumphant. Bull asks Solas wth he is doing as Bull takes Solas' remaining tower. "Your last tower, by the way". Bull, a spy and liar himself, bears down on Solas' pieces "with his full army", thinking a win is in sight. Undeterred, Solas executes a few moves in a sneaky plan and entraps Bull in a checkmate, winning the game after sacrificing various pieces to enact his plan.
rook also brings to mind the Tower tarot card and its meanings. it's associated with sudden, disruptive revelation and potentially destructive change. it connotes danger, crisis, sudden change, destruction, higher learning, and liberation, as well as adversity, calamity, deception, ruin and unforeseen catastrophe. reversed, it connotes things such as negligence, carelessness, apathy and vanity (vanity.. pride). in this depiction of the Tower tarot, lightning strikes from the sky, striking a crown (hubris) off the top of a tower and setting it alight as people fall from the tower to their doom. this imagery and the upright meanings of the card bring to mind the sudden massive change Solas seeks to bring about (destroying the Veil), the revelations and liberation for some that it might bring, his identity as Fen'Harel Lord of Tricksters (deception) as well as the destruction he seems to think the Veil destroying action will cause ("as the world burns in the raw chaos"...). the 'Tower scene' has also already played out once before in Thedosian history, when Solas created the Veil and sealed the Evanuris away, leading to the fall of Arlathan and its wonders. in modern Thedas, Morrigan and Flemeth (as well as possibly some side 'prophecy' type things) both allude to a big change coming to the world.
Tumblr media
in DA:I, the Tower tarot card is ofc none other than Solas' ending card, if he is not romanced. in the DA:I version of the card, we see Solas, cloaked in a dark robe and holding a mage staff under a half-moon or eclipse. darkness seeps from his shadow, stark against the orange sky, and blends with the giant black Dread Wolf, looming ominously and open-mouthed above him with its many eyes. (the Tower tarot card Solas scene is later referenced in DA:D promotional art and DA:D-era in-world murals). it makes sense to have assigned this to Solas given the above discussed meanings of the Tower tarot card, but it's a verrry inchresting choice imo to then give "Rook" as a name/title for the DA:D PC.
Tumblr media
and most inchrestingly, there's the symbol from the front of Mark Darrah's mysterious Red Book. this mysterious red book shows "a flaming rook" on the cover. the book was an internal guide for developer and publisher eyes only that summarized the vision for DA:D, in its Joplin iteration. we know that the Joplin project has since been revised to an extent that it was the newly codenamed Morrison instead, but the red book is known to still contain plenty of ideas likely to appear in DA:D. most pages of the book remain highly classified. it's the symbol on the front that's of most interest to us though for the purposes of this post. there is a castle, tower, or rook, like a fortress or the chess piece. above the tower, a fire burns, reminding us of the burning tower from the Tower tarot card imagery and what that symbolizes, as well as Solas' "world burning in the raw chaos" line from Trespasser. inside the fire is a wolf, the Dread Wolf, in a now very-familiar and repeated motif in DA:D art, merch, murals, teasers etc. whatever else "rook" may connote, it feels like it's not an accident at all that the PC's name is apparently "Rook", given this depiction of a fiery rook and the Dread Wolf together.

The Reaper and I
Had this in my drafts FOREVER, finally decided to just finish it. Simon "Ghost" Riley x f!-reader
Word Count: 3.26k Heavy NSFW
The dark looming eyes of death watched her like a famished hawk. Not once straying away or even seeming to blink.
Her neck prickled as he slowly lifted the glass and raised the bottom of his balaclava above his lips, downing the bourbon in one swift gulp before slamming the empty drink on the wooden table.
His eyes were pools of black, darkened with anger as he pulled his mask back down. She swore she could feel a cold chill wash over the room.
Y/n finally tore her gaze away from the masked man, returning her attention to Gaz and Soap, who were arguing about something. Their silly bickering was the least of her growing worries.
There was always thick air between her and the tower of a man they called Ghost. She could never quite understand him as she did the other members of the 141.
He was cold, distant, and brutal, hesitant to even reveal his real name, which she still didn't know.
Usually, going to the pub after a challenging mission was supposed to be relaxing, a way for the team to cool off after the stressful nature of the field.
But Y/n was more on edge now than she had ever been in her entire life. Her fingers trembled when she tried to lift her glass, eyes constantly darting to glance behind her where she'd always find the same man staring.
He'd never even spoken to her other than when he was shouting orders or criticizing her efforts, and now it was like the grim reaper was stalking her, waiting for his chance to strike.
"Y/n? You alright there. Look like you've seen a ghost," Soap said, snapping her out of her paranoid daze.
She would've laughed at the irony if her heart beating a million miles an hour.
"I'm fine. I'm going to head back to base. It's been a long day," Y/n spoke, clearing her throat and standing up. The intense weight of his stare burned into the back of her head.
She didn't give them time to respond before she was out the door, practically gasping when the cold fresh air hit her skin. She took a much-needed deep breath, finally feeling safe in her skin.
That was until she heard the pub door open and the heavy sound of combat boots hitting the sidewalk.
She didn't need to turn to know who it was. His presence behind her was enough to send chills down her spine.
She heard the sound of car keys jingling and his footsteps passing by. His massive figure walked ahead of her and unlocked a car, opening the passenger door and lifting his dark eyes to her.
"Get in," His booming voice demanded, holding the door open expectantly.
There was no way she could refuse. If she did, he would probably drag her into the car anyway.
She slowly stepped forward, sliding into the front seat and keeping her eyes straight ahead.
The ride back to base was silent. Y/n didn't dare to look at him, knowing that if she did, it would be hard to look away.
His strong hand gripping the wheel, large biceps covered with tattoos, veins running down his forearms. He was sculpted like a god, and she wanted to kiss every one of his scattered scars.
There's no point denying her attraction toward her Lietenuant, only that it was childish and most likely forbidden.
She hadn't even seen his face, only glimpses of his lips in dark pubs, and even then, she couldn't make out the shape.
Once they pulled into base and stepped out of the car, that thick fog of air enveloped them, almost suffocating her.
They started toward the barracks in silence once again. She wanted nothing more than to curl up in her bed and sleep, but she didn't know if it was possible. Her mind would inevitably stray to Ghost, and her hand may stray too...
It was silly to think about him that way, but it was impossible not to. His eyes, hands, arms, torso, everything about him seemed to electrocute her senses in arousal.
"Sergeant,"
Y/n stopped in her tracks, swallowing thickly before turning around, her eyes connecting with his.
"We need to talk," He said darkly, crossing his arms over his broad chest and staring down at her.
Y/n pursed her lips and inhaled sharply, clenching her jaw before she spoke.
"Yes, Lieutenant?" She replied in almost a whisper, lowering her gaze to the floor.
"Look at me when I'm talking to you," He spoke again, making her hesitantly raise her eyes.
"Do you think before you act? Or do you just do the first idiotic thing that comes to mind?" Ghost spat, venom in his tone. Y/n blinked once, sputtering over her words as the humiliation set in.
"Excuse me, sir?" She stammered, eyes going wide, a red tint slowly rising to her cheeks from embarrassment.
"You deliberately put yourself in danger," Ghost continued, stepping closer to Y/n, but she didn't back up.
Her eyes dawned in realization. He was talking about the mission a few weeks back. When she'd shoved him to the side and away from an enemy bullet, causing her to take a shot to the arm. But she wasn't harmed too much. The bullet was easily removed and stitched up.
"I saved your life," Y/n said with a scoff, shaking her head.
"You carelessly jumped in front of a bullet,"
"That was heading for your heart. I don't know why you're ridiculing me for saving you. If anything, you should thank me," She spat back, using her newfound confidence to stand straighter, narrowing her eyes.
"You got shot,"
"I was fine,"
Ghost glanced over at her arm, eyeing the scar just below her shoulder.
"You shouldn't have done it," He finally said, his voice as dark as his eyes, boring into hers like the devil.
"You're my Lieutenant," She answered simply. Like it was her obligation to save him if needed. In her mind, it was. She would take another bullet in a heartbeat, shoot an innocent man point blank in the skull to save him.
Ghost was caught off guard, not by her words but because of the way she said them, how her eyes softened as she looked at him.
It made him realize that maybe, just maybe, his confusing yet overpowering feelings for her might be reciprocated.
"I'd take a bullet any day of the week for you, Lt., and you don't even care about me," Y/n said with a breathy and dry laugh, looking away from him, a little embarrassed.
Now Ghost is mortified, her words soaking into him like a harsh slap to the face.
She thinks he hates her.
"Do you think I hate you?" Ghost asks, his eyes flashing with an unreadable emotion.
Y/n closed her eyes, pinching the bridge of her nose and cursing under her breath, biting back her stinging tears.
"Just forget it," She said with a scoff, turning around and starting down the hall.
Ghost was quick to follow behind, grabbing her wrist and pulling her back. Before she spun around, he'd lifted his mask to the base of his nose, and his lips were on hers in a second.
To say Y/n was shocked would be a massive understatement. Her eyes were wide, and her body was ridged, but it only took her a second to melt into his touch.
His hand was cupping her face while hers went to the back of his neck, simultaneously trying to pull themselves closer.
The warm feeling of his lips on hers sent her into a frenzied daze. The thoughts rushing through her were dirty and vile. The feeling of his strong gloved holding her face made her imagine how it might feel elsewhere, stroking and touching.
Ghost almost slammed her into the nearby wall, her back harshly colliding with the drywall. The only breaks they took between kissing were to take small gasps for air before diving in once again.
His free hand drifted lower toward her waist, small needy gasps escaping her lips as his fingers wrapped around her hip.
Her back was arching into him, her pelvis brushing against his. Her hand ran over his lower stomach, feeling the strong muscles beneath his shirt before finding purchase on the side of his waist, holding it like her life depended.
Ghost groaned. His breath was rapid and desperate, his desire growing with each passing moment, his head spinning with lucrative thoughts.
"Fucking hell," He breathed against her lips, his hand leaving her hip to reach into his pocket, pulling out his room keys and holding them tightly against her waist.
Ghost hooked his fingers in her belt loops, pulling her across the hall toward his room, keeping their lips together.
He quickly unlocked his door, stepping inside with Y/n right behind him, reattaching their lips as soon as it closed.
"Ghost-" Y/n gasped, his hands clasped around her waist, keeping her impossibly close. She pressed her hips into his, his grip tightening from the contact.
"Jesus Christ, don't do that," He groaned, kissing her so ferociously that their teeth clicked together and their noses touched.
Y/n arched forward again, making sure she ground against his already massive bulge, feeling it grow even more.
"Needy thing, aren't you?" Ghost said darkly, walking them back toward his bed until her knees hit the mattress. She fell onto the bed, dragging Ghost along with her. His body hovering over hers.
Ghost dragged his lips along her jaw, his teeth nibbling and biting the exposed skin. A soft mewl escaped Y/n's lips, and her cunt ached with anticipation as his gloved hands slid up her shirt.
"You don't know how long I've wanted to see you like this- a mess beneath me," Ghost groans, taking the fabric of her shirt and tossing it away.
"Ghost-" Y/n pleaded, begging him to touch her more.
"Oh fucking hell, love. You're all worked up, aren't you?" Ghost says it's more of a statement than a question like he knows how much she wants him.
"Please-" She whispers, running her hand down his clothed chest, her fingers gripping the hemming of his shirt
Ghost quickly rips the fabric from his chest, kissing her again with a passionate force, like he's been denied his treasure for too long.
Y/n's fingers graze along his bare and muscle-toned chest. It's littered with scars, and a line of hair from his belly button down, his v-line accentuated. Her tongue moves with Ghost's as they moan into each other's mouths.
His hand wraps around her back, unclipping her bra with an almost concerning level of ease before tossing it to be forgotten.
He pulls back to admire her body, his eyes dark like the devil himself as he drinks in the beauty of her figure, his gaze hungry for her.
Ghost's mouth latches onto her left nipple, sucking and biting the skin as his other hand gives attention to the right.
Y/n moans, her fingers sliding under his balaclava to grip the short strands of hair on the back of his neck.
Ghost switches his lips to the right side, making sure that both of her beautiful tits are covered in his markings.
"Oh god-" Y/n groans as his lips trail further down her body.
"God can't fucking help you," Ghost almost hisses into her skin, sending shivers down her spine.
Ghost undoes her belt, pulling it through the loops before unbuttoning her cargo pants and practically ripping them off her legs.
"Such pretty fucking legs," Ghost says lowly, his lips planting kisses and hickeys all along her inner thighs.
Y/n lets out a shaky breath as his hand cups her core, his palm pressing directly against her aching clit.
"Already so needy and wet for me," Ghost speaks in a low tone, his fingers hooking into the waistband of her underwear.
"You want this, love?" He asks before going any further.
Y/n nods quickly, swallowing in anticipation.
"I need words, Y/n," He says her name in such a low growl it almost makes her cum on the spot.
"Yes, yes, I want this," She whines, pressing her hips into his hand, aching for him to just take her panties off already.
Ghost lifts his hand up to her mouth, sticking the tips of his gloved fingers between her lips with a commanding look in his eyes.
"Bite," He says, watching as Y/n carefully sinks her teeth into his gloved fingertips, keeping hold of the fabric as he slides his hand out of the glove.
"Good girl," Ghost says with a smirk, his lips curling into a devilish grin as he hoists her legs over his shoulders before yanking off her panties. The soft little moan that leaves her lips is music to his ears.
He wastes no time burying his face in her cunt, making her squirm and gasp, but his strong arms keep her in place as he laps at her wetness like it's his last meal.
His tongue flicks at her clit, spreading her pretty pussy lips apart and then prodding at her entrance before licking a strip back up to her aching pearl. The mewls and whines that leave her lips are erotic and desperate, yearning for the promise of release.
"Ghost-" Y/n started to moan, her hips bucking into his face, eyes rolling back as she arched her spine against the mattress.
"'S not my name, sweetheart," Ghost says, head still buried between her legs, the movements of his tongue pausing as he waits for her to get his name right.
"Simon," Y/n corrects, biting her lip and subconsciously grinding her hips into his face.
"That's better," Simon says with a grin, spitting onto her pussy before he goes back in with his tongue.
The lewd, wet sounds of Simon eating Y/n out echo off the walls, and if anyone were in the adjacent rooms, they'd be able to hear the loud, needy moans that come from Y/n.
"Simon, mh- I'm close-" Y/n says in a high, breathy voice, her eyes screwed shut and her face contorted with pleasure, her hand tightly balling up the sheet, the hot bubbly feeling in her lower belly growing with each passing second.
"That's it, come for me, love," Simon says in a raspy voice as he easily slides a finger into her slick-soaked cunt, starting to pump it in and out, curling it against her g-spot.
The new sensation causes Y/n to cry out, her back arching and her vision going white as she finishes. Her come covered Simon's lips and chin, making his skin shine.
Simon smiles at his accomplishment, chuckling softly before hovering over her, his lips coming down to kiss hers.
Y/n moans as she tastes herself on his tongue, her face flushing hot as Simon hooks one of her legs over his shoulder, and her mouth waters as she watches him unbuckle his belt and pull his cargos down.
Y/n can't help but stare when he pulls his boxers down. Her eyes widened when his impressively sized cock is freed.
It was at least 8 inches long with an impressive girth she knew would burn as it stretched her out, but she couldn't help the wave of arousal that flooded her pussy when she thought about it.
"Ah, eyes on me, love," Simon tsks, grabbing her chin and forcing her to look into his eyes, admiring the doe-like expression in her eyes as she silently begs for him.
"You ready?" He asks, brushing his thumb along her jaw, running it over her puffy lips as he waits for her consent to move forward, the head of his cock merely teasing at her slit, rubbing up and down.
Y/n quickly nods, biting her lip, and spreading her legs a little wider for him, one of her legs up over his shoulder and the other hooked around his waist.
"Yes, please, Simon," She softly begs, crying out a little as Simon slowly pushes the broad tip inside her. A low throaty groan leaves his lips as his forehead presses against hers.
"Ah- Simon-!" Y/n moans as he pushes the rest of his length inside. The head of his cock gently thrums against her cervix, adding a little bit of pain to the pleasure, not that it was unwelcome.
"Ohhh, fuckkk-" Simon grovels, his teeth clenching together as he starts to thrust, having to put all of his thought into not cumming in her tight little cunt right then and there.
His thrusts gradually pick up, and his cock moves perfectly inside her, the veins running against her gummy walls as his tip hits her g-spot, causing her eyes to roll back and her moans to become uncontrollable.
"Simon-" Y/n mewls, her head falling against his shoulder, her nails slicing into his toned back as she clings to him for dear life. Tears sting her eyes as the intensity of his thrusts picks up, and it's not long before she can feel her second orgasm approaching.
"'M close-" She whispers to him, her cheek pressed into his strong shoulder, feeling the muscles work and ripple beneath his skin. The thought only added to her arousal.
"Want you to soak my cock," Simon breathes, his palm leaving the sheets and pressing against her lower stomach as his thumb circles her already sensitive clit.
The weird sensation makes Y/n's eyes snap open, and her hand immediately flies to his wrist, her hips squirming at the overwhelming sensation.
"Simon- feel's weird-" She says breathlessly, trying to push his wrist off as she gets ready to come.
"I know, baby, let it happen," Simon says darkly, his thumb tightly circling her clit as he feels her pussy clench around him, her cries of pleasure drone off into a euphoric silent scream as she comes.
Her cunt pulses around his cock, squirting all over the fabric of his cargo pants, soaking everything. The feeling of her squirting and cumming on his cock makes Simon's balls tighten, and with a guttural groan, he buries his cock as deep as he can, cumming right against her cervix and coating her insides with white ropes.
Y/n's entire body trembles and shakes with pleasure as she comes down off her high, her pussy red and sensitive as Simon carefully pulls out of her, some of his spend leaking from her hole.
Simon gently takes his finger and eases his cum back inside, watching as she whimpers from the overstimulation with a proud smirk on his face.
He leans up and kisses her forehead, wiping the baby hairs that stuck to her sweaty forehead away.
"Did so well f'me, love," He whispers, kissing her lips before getting off the bed and walking to his dresser, taking out a clean shirt and walking back over to the bed, helping her slide it over her head before he goes back and changes himself.
Simon returns to his bed and pulls the soaked blanket from the mattress, tossing it into the hamper before walking to the closet and locating the spare.
He then gently tucks Y/n's exhausted body under the covers, and only when everything is situated does he join her, sliding under the sheets and pulling her close to him, kissing her softly on the forehead before murmuring.
"I could never hate you,"

Post-chapter 29 thoughts + spoilers below
A key thing to note is how different the relationship between Tav and Astarion is compared to the game. In bg3, early Act 3 is a fledgling relationship burdened by Astarion's obsessive, even frightening, drive for the ritual, and the player character can either indulge that or question him.
In FATWR, that's secondary: Astarion has tied his chances of success to keeping Tav happy so that she will help him, as he has no faith is his ability to do it by himself. He leaves it in her hands, and Tav notably gathers less information than he does in-game due to her preoccupation with Cazador. Freedom is a nebulous concept to Astarion, though he imagines the ascended version of himself might be an equal partner to her, or even free entirely (whatever that means.)
I don't consider Astarion to be particularly touchy-feely, so note how he lingers compulsively close to Tav for the past few chapters. He doesn't view them as a relationship, per se, though he does know she feels something for him and vice versa - instead, he continually refers to himself as her favorite, i.e. favorite spawn, a position that is up for grabs and competitive in nature. He's more snippy with the companions, who are competition. He postures before camp about their relationship because it's a more positive re-imagining of his position within the spawn ranking, a role Tav unconsciously pushed him into with all her deliberate and unintentional reflections of Cazador. Because Tav is touchy, he's doing what he thinks she wants - being affectionate, even overbearingly so - and indulging in a position he never wanted/would be allowed to achieve, and finding it strangely enjoyable, if anxiety inducing and intense. (He's roleplaying a dedicated boyfriend very, very hard rn.)
He pushes for the Love Test because Astarion does want to escape the role of favored spawn by becoming equals (though this of course goes completely over Tav's head.) Neither particularly wanted to talk about such personal things in front of a stranger, and end up spitefully pushing each other into honesty. And Zethino confirms that they do have an healthy path out of this, their love being akin to a fledgling tree growing in the undergrowth of a forest, choked out from sunlight by Sylvar & Cazador's impressions towering impressions. It's the Californian in me: they need a good forest fire, to clear out the brush and ancient, dead trees.
When confronted by Dalyria and Petras, he almost introduces her as his new master. In the first draft, I had him do so to Tav's immense satisfaction, but once I decided the glowing spawn eyes were a sign of Caz staring through them, I decided to cut it - let's not aggravate Caz too much just yet, though he definitely caught what Tav was trying to pitch, even if not explicitly said.
Tav's a bit of a misandrist, mistrustful of men and diminishing of them, so she ignores Petras and focuses on Dalyria instead. I wanted to mimic the feeling of watching a dysfunctional family: little slights blow into huge ones in an instant, and Astarion's feelings + Dalyria's instant hysteria are meant to evoke that. It's like watching a typically calm friend immediately blow their cool when confronted with a minor dig by a parent or sibling - they blow up because for them, it's the straw that broke the camels back, while for the observer it's nothing, and they therefor seem ridiculous and sensitive.
Astarion burns Petras for far longer because it's the first bit of control he's gotten so far in the whole story, he's stressed (she did say they'd talk about the love test, and Astarion expects more than just that), and Tav doesn't give enough of a shit to stop him. Had he killed Petras, she would have been like "well, guess you didn't want to ascend after all. Idiot."
Tav continues to display next to no sensitivity for Astarion's sexual trauma by making him kiss Dalyria. It's both a silly little thing to prove to Cazador that Astarion does what she says, that he's hers, because she finds Cazador's insistence on feeding them vermin to be disgusting and needlessly degrading, but also giving Dalyria real blood is a quick way to endear herself to her (of debatable value, considering Dalyria's getting flayed for it). She also just thinks it's hot. Tav really wants to watch him have sex with someone else. It's not about watching other people have sex - it's about Astarion being in the throes of pleasure, regardless of how/why/how many people are involved. As Tav would absolutely participate in an orgy if he asked it of her, she sees no problem with this.
A lot of Tav's reactions (or lack thereof) to Astarion's issues can be summed up as "I did the same thing and it was fine, absolutely fine, I definitely do not have trauma about this, and honestly, I wouldn't let anything truly terrible happen to you anyway and will stop the second you ask, so why is any of this a problem? It's fine. EVERYTHING'S FINE." sigh she's a handful
Anyway, because Astarion is the practical sort and not much of a planner, while he does realize that Tav's flexing towards Cazador, he doesn't understand why, and is quite frankly sick of trying to figure it out. The more he's compared the two, the less he wants to think about Cazador, full stop, because that goes too close to thinking about any latent attraction he might have to Cazador, how much he's been ruined and molded by him, and how Tav keeps telling him the same. The less time he spends thinking about Cazador the better (unless it's fantasizing about brutally murdering him), and genuinely, he's still mad impressed she talked so many people into killing themselves + the Gur fight. If whatever she's planning gets Caz killed faster, great. He trusts that she won't give him back, that she wants Caz dead, and that she promised to ascend him, a promise he strangely believes despite himself.
All he's got to do is keep his position as her favorite, keep her happy, pray she doesn't completely enthrall him before the ascension, and hope she doesn't come up with too much weird shit in the meantime because god knows his mind can be a terrible place at times, and he has no doubt hers is just a depraved. (They've both got such a skewed sense of normal sexuality & relationships that there's some truly wild shit coming up lol. This act isn't even about their relationship, really! It's about Tav & Astarion's quests! The smut just keeps smutting!!! 💀)
Anyway, Tav's upset because he compared her to Caz again (correctly), said she doesn't flex her power enough (except when she does, he compares her to Caz) and it's a comparison she's finally decided doesn't serve her, but Astarion's already done so much work accepting the idea that honestly she's never going to escape it. Womp womp hence, hoisted by her own petard.
Because he was so accurate with the love test answers (besides the one) and she was both vulnerable and sucked his dick last night/realized she loved him, she's both incredibly pleased and disengaging at the same time. Daydreaming, horny - but also degrading, bringing him down to her level by making him kiss Dalyria and being a whore like her, casting herself as Sylvar, and thinking about him in terms of an object to be won, a "beloved pet", which, ouch. I love him like a pet it's different he's my little vampling ok this is definitely not a real relationship
The "boiling to frog" bit is about Astarion. He's the frog being boiled. Tav's pushing his boundaries further and further to move the goalpost on how much he can take from her.
"This is fine," Astarion thinks, "it's definitely normal for my new master girlfriend lover to have so much power over me, and make me kiss my kind-of sister despite knowing how traumatic that is for both of us. This is fine. This will be a real relationship someday. Once I'm powerful, she'll respect me. Do I need her to respect me? Maybe? I don't know. I've never had that before. Don't ask to be commanded again don't don't don't please keep loving me"

Found - Inside Hyrule series pt. 3
Content: Link and you have been on a journey throughtout all of Hyrule to get to know what happened to your dear friend, and Link's partner, Zelda, who's been missing for weeks. You've seen visions of her in strange geoglyphs and, after eleven, an enormous golden Dragon seemed to want to show you the last one where you may discover what's going on.
Author's note: Something sad because I've been feeling sad and there's nothing better than feel make myself even sadder by writing sad shit. Enjoy!
Y/N. No shipping, simple draft.
Inside Hyrule series is a a series of oneshots, in no particular order about YOU in the world of Zelda! Just imagine... how it'd be to have adventures with your favourite hero and princess? How it'd be to travel alongside Link? Do not expect a cool, intricate plots, it's just something to help you (and me by writing and imagining it) to relax and have a nice moment.

"You think this is the last one?" you asked, walking through the curved land that was the Rist Peninsula. A new Tear had fallen in the end on that part that seemed like a snake's tail, exactly in the middle, and, as you got closer, you could see the small pond shimmer in gold.
Link didn't answer. He was concentrated, with his eyebrows frowned deeply, probably without him being aware of that. Since the moment he discovered that the geoglyphs and the glowing ponds were actually some sort of visions about Zelda, Link had almost gotten crazy looking for all of them. It had been such an exhausting journey, traveling quickly through all of Hyrule, using the towers to propulse you both to the skies in order to have a better look at land; falling from such heights was something you still hadn't gotten used to no matter how many times you did it. And after eleven geoglyphs, the gigantic Light Dragon that soared the clouds dropped a tear exactly at the spot where you were now. You wondered if that beautiful, imposing creature knew something about the princess.
You could tell Link was a nervous wreck, but decided to stay silent, just jogging at his side. He didn't like to feel weak nor vulnerable, he was trying his hardest to keep his composure so it'd be better if you intervened only when he asked. However, you had underestimated how much anxiety he felt, as he surprised you when he sprinted towards the water instead of keeping the walk on the trail.
"Hey!" you exclaimed.
"It's faster this way!" he expressed, distracted. The water was deep enough to reach his waist.
"C'mon..." you muttered as you also entered the water, slower, and you immediately shivered at the cold, damp sensation invading your clothes and skin.
Link reached the glowing pond fast, dripping with salt water. Meanwhile, you soon caught up to him, tensing your jaw and teeth together.
"And you had to do this at night," you complained, taking a deep breath, but he didn't listen to you and instead got nearer to the pond.
"Alright, here it goes..." he murmured as his prosthetic arm's rune glowed. Immediately the liquid inside the pond reacted, just like the previous ones, and shimmered in the same light, splashing in reverse until there was only a single ball of liquid floating, turning into a shining light source that embraced you both in its warmth.
Zelda appeared suddenly in your mind, behind your eyelids, she was standing in the open platform where the decayed Master Sword disappeared and behind her was what seemed the Temple of Time in better times and, also, curiously, standing on mainland instead of floating on a piece of land among clouds. The vision was impressive in the sense you could see everything so clearly, as if you were next to the princess, but you couldn't move nor speak, it was all just happening inside your head.
Your natural reaction was to gasp when Zelda put the Purah Pad in the hands of the Construct that gave it to Link at the beginning, but not a single sound came out of your throat. Zelda then stood in front of the plataform where the decayed sword rested and she looked at it with a small concentraded frown.
"Link, I will restore the Master Sword for you," she murmured. "I will care for it until the time comes. I will pour my secret power into it. It will be the weapon that defeats the Demon King."
She then grabbed the small golden stone resting softly on the skin of her neck and sighed.
"Y/N will surely never leave you alone in your battle against darkness and that reassures me," she whispered, this time more to herself; she opened her eyes as she pulled the stone, they were full of tears that didn't fall.
"You must..." she spoke as she stared in sorrow at the stone between both her hands and then brought them to her lips. At that moment, you wanted to yell and stop her, but you didn't even feel your body. You saw her swallow and suddenly her body illuminated in a bold of light as she trembled and struggled to reach the decayed sword.
"Y/N! Link!" she exclaimed, she put the sword close to her chest and hugged it. The light became more intense and her eyes turned animalesque, blue surrounded in purple. "Protect them all!"
There was a big explosion of blinding golden light and a familiar dragon came out of it, soaring to the sky, while a tear slipped from its eye to explode and separate in eleven smaller dropplets that fell to the land. The dragon then disappeared behing thick clouds, leaving its roar echoing through your ears and mind.
Finally, you could open the eyes, which you didn't realize were watering. When the floating drop of liquid dropped down and disappeared, you realized you and Link were now both surrounded by Silent Princess flowers whose glow shimmered lovely in contrast with the darkness of the now colder night.
"Goddess, Zelda..." you whispered, your throat tight and dry. You turned your face to Link, he was just staring quietly at the empty pond, his mouth slightly open.
A massive howl was heard at the sky, the vibrations of the sound rumbled across your body . You looked up and saw the Light Dragon, Zelda, floating ethereally on the sky above, its head with a trail of yellow, green, and blue glitter that shined beautifully against it's glistening golden mane. You stared as it went away to continue its wander.
A single tear slipped through your cheek and you took a deep breath, you knew this time Link needed you more and you had to stay put.
He was still standing, a few steps behind you and his eyes were locked on the sky where the dragon had disappeared. His expressions were always difficult to read, but you could see how much he was struggling to remain calm, how much he was trying to resort to the expresionless soldier he used to be, but to no avail.
"Link, hey..." you stepped a bit closer and raised your hand to touch his shoulder, but he collapsed next to you on his knees before you could do it. You heard him sob slightly into his closed tight fists.
"Fuck..." he muttered. You had to admit him swearing caught you out of guard. He wasn't a stranger to insults and bad words, he actually was really creative due to his time surrounded by nothing but men in military training, but he didn't really use them. However, this occasion surely warranted it.
"Link, we..." you started but he interrupted you, screaming at the ground:
"How the fuck am I going to bring her back!?" he punched the ground with his fist as he took the other to rest on his knee, his whole body was shaking, his voice trembled and broke. Your shoulders fell, defeated. You had no answer for him. "All this time! All this fucking time she was right there, above us! She's been..." he interrupted himself by gulping. "She's been like that since the Imprisoning War..."
There were no words you could say to make things better, because you were also at lost. How were you going to solve this? That's the reason you came into this world to begin with, why you kept coming back generation after generation, to help the Hero and the Princess to defeat evil. But this time, despair ran through your mind and nothing else. You lowered yourself to grab his shoulders firmly.
"Listen, Link, there's always..."
"Don't say that! Don't you dare to say that there's a way! There isn't! Zelda's a bloody dragon!" he exclaimed as he shook. You expected him to take your grasp off him, but he didn't do it, he remained in total defeat on the ground among the glow of the Silent Princess flowers. "There's just no way. I can't do this," his voice sounded hoarse, as if he was drowning. He shook his head slightly. "Shit... no, I can't..."
You kneeled next to him, put an arm to hug him from the back while putting your head on his shoulder, and you used your other hand to rub his arm affectionately in an attempt to at least accompany him on his pain. A pain that you also felt, for Zelda was one of your best friends there, and she had been for generations at that. Link kept on trembling, sobbing, and he grabbed firmly the arm hugging him with both gloved hands. Your embrace was probably what kept him from falling apart.
"Your heard it form that Zonai woman," he murmured. "'To become an immortal dragon is to lose oneself'," he cited and you felt his fingers digging into your arm without causing you any discomfort. "She's not there. That... that's not her"
"Stop it," you said with the firmest tone you could, but your voice was also vibrating. The breeze seemed colder now, even in the dry parts of your body. You felt the blossoms of a Silent Princess flower touch the exposed skin of your leg. "This isn't over, there's still much things we got to do and maybe we can do something once we finish with this."
Link once again shook his head slightly.
"I-I don't think I can do this..." he whispered and, again, he held on tight to your arm.
You didn't really remember if you had ever seen Link so crushed like that. He had always been the first one to be positive and hopeful, to fight his way to the victory, but now he was breaking in front of you. You wondered if that attitude of his on his past lives was because you were a mere child accompanying him, you depended on his strenght, and thus Link fought to remain positive for you; but now that this Link had you as an adult, maybe it was now your time to support him. And you didn't think you were doing a good job since you neither could find any solution.
Why did Zelda had to sacrifice herself like that?
Your eyes started to water even more and this time tears fell through your cheeks.
"I'm sorry, Link, for not being able to help you at all," you murmured in a shaky voice. "And I'm sorry she thought becoming a dragon was the only way, I should've seen that before. I failed you both"
Link sobbed slightly stronger and you put your forehead on his hair above his ear.
"I'm so sorry..." you whispered.
The soft glow of the Silent Princess surrounding you both kept on shimmering. Flowers believed to be extinct but now thrived in the wild with their pretty blue color and glistering light, you wondered if it was a sign of hope or a crude reminder of your dear friend's sacrifice.

Congratulations on defending your thesis and the masters degree!!! I hope it is ok that I take that invitation about asking about your thesis and ask to ramble about it - how did it go? How was the defense? Is there something you learnt that stuck with you or something in particular you feel like talking about? Please take any or none of these questions as prompts and ramble away
taking a break from packing hell to finally answer this !! putting this under a read more bc wow this is a long answer
first i want to give an overview of what my thesis is about & what the process was & all that jazz. so for context, i've been studying stage automation for the past 3 years (i've tried to be intentionally vague about this to avoid lowkey doxing myself bc there's only a handful of schools in the US that offer stage automation as a degree). stage automation is basically anything in a theatrical/live entertainment setting that is moved by machines. my go-to example of stage automation whenever people ask me what i've been studying & have no idea what stage automation is is the turntable in hamilton
for the topic of my thesis, i decided to explore the role automation plays in adapting movies to the stage. i've been fascinated by storytelling for literally ever, & while in grad school i've been fascinated specifically by movies & practical effects within them. i also became almost hyperaware of the sheer number of musicals that are adapted from movies (one of the first things i did after my topic was approved by my advisor was compile a list of all the musicals & plays (that were on broadway and/or off-broadway) that were adapted from movies. that list has 41 entries, & that's only the ones i kept on the list after checking to see whether or not they had automation. so yeah, there's a lot). those 2 things converged quite naturally when it came time to pick my topic back in september
to explore the role automation plays in adapting movies to the stage, i decided to examine 4 movies & their subsequent staged adaptations that featured automation & figure out what specifically the automation was doing to help tell the story of the source material. the 4 movies/shows i chose were aladdin, newsies, the lord of the rings, & legally blonde. i chose these movies/shows because i was familiar with the movies, found their stories compelling, & they have really cool automated elements that i was able to find information about with relative ease (thank you youtube!).
aladdin the musical has a number of buildings that move using tracks in the floor, a handful of lifts, &, most notably, the magic carpet. those disney fuckers keep how the carpet works under lock & key, but my advisor worked at the company that built the carpet prior to becoming a professor (& now that i think about it was probably working at that company while the carpet was being built) so i had someone who could tell me whether or not my assumptions about how it works are correct (& let the record show that i was mostly right with the description that ended up in the final draft of my paper (& that description was framed as "this could be how this is done", to avoid being silenced by the mouse) which i count as a major win). aladdin was fun to dig into bc i watched it approximately a million times growing up bc it was one of my siblings' favorite movies growing up, & it was fun to see how automation aided in making an animated world come to life on a stage
newsies the musical has 3 like 30 foot tall multi-story towers that track and rotate onstage throughout the show. they lend a big hand in establishing the greater setting of new york city in 1899 as well as the more specific settings within the show. i wrote a great paragraph in my thesis that i think really not only sums up what the automation is doing in the show, but also drives home that every choice made by any department throughout the development and production process of a show should be in service of the story:
Scenes set in places such as the newspaper distribution center, Pulitzer’s office, and the deli have set dressing such as tables or desks, carts of newspapers ready for sale, and chairs. By contrast, scenes set in the boys home the Newsies sleep in, as well as scenes set in the streets do not have these additional set dressings, only featuring the three towers on an otherwise empty stage. Besides allowing room for the many full company dance numbers in the show, this choice in staging echoes the circumstances of the Newsies: they have very little to their name, and their only resources are those they can find in the city itself.
but yeah i love newsies, & i loved being able to dig into why the newsies movie from 1992 was a bit of a flop & how was it different from aladdin (which if i'm remembering right also came out in 1992). digging into all that led me down rabbit holes about the death of the movie musical in hollywood, disney's entire history of making movies, & alan menken & howard ashman's working relationship (again, thank you youtube!). i hold so much knowledge about disney in the early 1990s which i'm hoping will pay off at some bar's trivia night in the next 5-15 years lol
the lord of the rings was such a fun one. i didn't get into the movies until rather recently (in the past 2ish years lol) but i really do love them with my whole chest. & i didn't know there was a lord of the rings musicals until maybe 6 or 7 months ago, & i definitely stumbled upon this knowledge on accident (which if you know the story of me getting into wanting to do stage automation is very on-brand). & as far as the automation goes in the show, there's a turntable with a bunch of built-in lifts that is, i kid you not, the most insane use of automation i have ever seen. like here's a link to a video of it in action because nothing i could say to try to describe it would even come close to doing it justice. i may need to revise my go-to answer to the question "if you had a time machine to witness one event in history, what would it be?" to be going back in time to see this show while it was on the west end in 2007 just bc of that turntable
the automation in legally blonde the musical is a handful of deck tracks & a lift and, unlike the other shows i looked at, doesn't serve the story via a moment of spectacle. these elements make transitions between scenes & between settings effortless in order to prevent drawing the audience's attention away from the action of the story. in my opinion, doing the transitions in this way echoes the kind of person elle woods is. another line from my thesis:
Legally Blonde is a fast-paced, high-energy show, featuring a protagonist that is blisteringly efficient at whatever she puts her mind to, and the transitions within the show support that beautifully.
legally blonde the musical is an impeccable adaptation of the movie, & i love christian borle with my entire chest.
after examining these 4 movies/musicals, i then chose a movie & walked through the process of translating an element from that movie to the stage via automation. the movie i chose was the hunger games: catching fire, & the element i chose was the arena. i reimagined it as a turntable with lifts, similar to the one from lord of the rings, & talked a bit about ways the turntable could be used in the staging of the show. it's a little silly & goofy to imagine adapting a sequel into a musical, but i still stand by my choice. it was fun to dig into the themes of the trilogy as a whole as well as of this entry & think about ways to represent those themes with how the turntable could be used
now to answer your questions!
"how did it go?" the process of writing the thesis was more tumultuous than i think it needed to be. i am not the best at these bigger projects with the longer time frame where it is up to me to set the pace for working on it. i almost always vastly underestimate how long it'll take, & i usually end up doing a absurdly long & last minute final push in order to get it done. most of this paper was written in like 12 hours spread out over a weekend right before a draft was due to my advisor. but! it is done & accepted & i don't have to write a thesis ever again (barring any decisions to get another masters degree in my 40s, which is kind of a joke but also not really bc haha what if lol).
"how was the defense?" honestly really chill! i met with my committee monday morning, & i talked through the process of writing my thesis with them, & then they asked me questions. we talked a little more about the lord of the rings & then dug even further into staging ideas for catching fire the (hypothetical) musical.
"is there something you learnt that stuck with you or something in particular you feel like talking about?" i think this entire process has really reiterated to me that the tech theatre side (scenery, lighting, sound, costumes, etc.) is just as important as the creative side (writers, directors, actors, etc.) when it comes to telling the story of a given show. it can be so easy to fall into thinking that we just turn wrenches or make the machines go or what have you, that we aren't aiding in telling a story on that stage just as much as the actors are (it doesn't help that we aren't the side of the coin that gets the praise for telling a good story, or that my department specifically isn't one a lot of people even really knows exists), & it's so nice to have this fun & funky lil reminder that no, that's not the case, we're a vital part of the process & of a show being successful.
2 fun facts about my thesis to close out this very long post: there's a newsies reference in my title ("just watch what happens: the role of automation in staged adaptations of movies") & there are 46 entries in my works cited, which stretches out across 5 pages in my document (double-spaced, of course)

Decoding Plant Growth: How Hormones Shape the Botanical World
Tumblr media
Welcome to the mystery of unlocking the secrets of plant growth! In this article, we'll be exploring plant hormones and the role they play in the development of a healthy and abundant garden. Plant hormones help control and regulate the growth of plants by influencing cell growth and differentiation, ultimately aiding in their response to environment changes. We'll discuss the different types of hormones produced and how they interact with the environment and other stimuli. Whether you're looking to give your garden a boost or just looking to understand the science behind plant growth, this article will help you unlock the power of plant hormones! ```html
Unlock the Secrets of Plant Growth: Exploring Plant Hormones
I never thought I’d get emotionally attached to a houseplant. Then came my fiddle-leaf fig, which seemed determined to stage a daily drama—one day thriving, the next day drooping like it had just heard bad news. It wasn’t until I learned about plant hormones that I finally cracked the code to keeping it happy.
Plant hormones are like a plant’s internal messaging system. These chemical signals orchestrate everything from growth spurts to flower production, even how a plant reacts to environmental stress. Think of them as the backstage crew making the magic happen while the leaves and blooms take center stage.
The Plant Hormone Dream Team
There are five major players in the plant hormone world, and each one is a multitasking genius:
Auxins: The architects of growth, helping plants elongate stems and roots.
Gibberellins: The cheerleaders, promoting seed germination and flowering.
Cytokinins: The multitaskers, balancing growth between roots and shoots.
Ethylene: The storyteller, responsible for ripening fruit and dropping leaves.
Abscisic Acid (ABA): The survivalist, helping plants endure stress like drought.
Each hormone brings its own flair to the table, but together, they turn a simple sprout into a masterpiece of nature. It’s like a plant version of an Avengers team-up. (Cue the dramatic music!)
Surprising Lessons from a Wilting Monstera
Last winter, my monstera plant started looking like a sad, floppy mess. At first, I blamed myself for overwatering, but the real villain was ethylene. During colder months, ethylene production can spike, leading to leaf drop or slower growth. The solution? I moved the plant out of drafts and gave it a pep talk—just kidding, I adjusted the humidity and its light source.
Understanding plant hormones isn’t just science—it’s a superpower for plant lovers.
When you realize how hormones like auxins direct root growth or how ABA puts plants in survival mode during drought, you stop guessing and start thriving. It’s plant care on another level.
Hormones in Action: The Cool Science Stuff
If you’ve ever noticed a plant bending toward sunlight, you’ve witnessed auxins in action. These hormones redistribute themselves to the shaded side of the stem, elongating the cells there and causing the plant to tilt. Cool, right? It’s like your plant is doing yoga to stretch toward the light!
Or take gibberellins—they’re the reason tiny seeds can grow into towering sunflowers. By breaking dormancy in seeds, gibberellins kickstart growth like a caffeine shot for a groggy Monday morning.
The Takeaway
Think of plant hormones as your secret weapon for healthier, happier plants. Whether you’re growing herbs on your windowsill or tending to a jungle of houseplants, understanding these tiny chemical messengers will save you time, energy, and frustration. You’ll even start to see your plants as dynamic, responsive little beings.
Ready to dive deeper into the science of plant care? Check out my full guide on plant physiology. Trust me, your plants will thank you by sprouting new leaves before you know it!
In the end, caring for plants is as much about understanding their language as it is about watering and sunlight. And thankfully, their hormones make them surprisingly chatty—if you know how to listen.

Keeping Your Cool: The Essential Guide to Cooling Towers
Imagine a giant radiator constantly working behind the scenes to keep your house from overheating. That's basically what a cooling tower does for industrial processes! These remarkable structures play an essential role in various industries by removing excess heat and ensuring smooth operations. But how exactly do they work, and why are they so crucial? Let's dive in and explore the glamorous world of cooling towers!
Tumblr media
The Cooling Process Explained
In simple terms, a cooling tower acts as a heat exchanger. Here's a breakdown of the process: Warm Water In: Industrial processes often generate a lot of heat. This hot water is pumped into the cooling tower. Airflow: Powerful fans within the tower create an upward draft of air. Evaporation Magic: As the hot water cascades down technical fillings inside the tower, it comes into contact with the cool air. This contact causes some of the water to evaporate, absorbing heat in the process.
Cooler Water Out: The cooled water is then collected at the bottom of the tower and returned to the industrial process, ready to absorb more heat.
Heat Dispersal: The evaporated water, now in the form of hot, humid air, exits the tower through the top.
Types of Cooling Towers: There are two main types of cooling towers, each with its own advantages:
Natural Draft Cooling Towers: These towers rely on the natural rising of hot air to create the upward draft. They are typically large, hyperboloid-shaped structures and are well-suited for applications where energy efficiency is a priority.
Induced Draft Cooling Towers: These towers use fans to generate the airflow, making them more compact and efficient in hotter climates. They are commonly used in industrial settings.
Why are Cooling Towers Important?
Cooling towers are important for several reasons: Maintaining Optimal Temperatures: In many industries, like power generation or chemical processing, accurate temperature control is essential. Cooling towers control equipment from overheating, ensuring efficient operation and preventing breakdowns. Energy Efficiency: By removing heat, cooling towers allow industrial operations to reuse the cooled water, reducing the need for constant water replacement. This translates to significant water conservation and energy savings. Environmental Impact: Overheated industrial processes can release excess heat into the environment. Cooling towers help mitigate this by transferring heat to the atmosphere through controlled evaporation.

A cooling tower is a heat rejection device that removes excess heat from the atmosphere created by the machinery inside the block using a stream of cooled water. A small amount of water can evaporate into a stream of flowing air through the cooling tower’s evaporative process, which effectively cools the surrounding region. The transferred heat from the water stream to the air stream increases the temperature of the air which causes humidity, however, this air is discharged through cooling tower fans to the atmosphere. Mechanical drafts are further divided into the Forced draft and Induced draft. Evaporative heat refusal devices such as cooling tower fans are generally used to produce significantly reduce water temperatures as compared to the devices, available with “dry” or “air cooled” heat rejection devices, such as the radiator in a car, through obtaining more energy efficient and cost-effective operation of systems in order to cooling. The cooling potential and capacity of a wet surface are much more reliable than a dry one.

OK ok cool @detroitbecomeonline (also i can HEAR that "Obviously")
So this is a really rough draft of the idea since I need to go to sleep soon and I just came up with it in the shower
Ok it's based off of me accidentally mashing up a song I like and thinking of comics. specific Romantic Homicide and Sixty
Rough idea: Connor manipulated Sixty into becoming his friend, made him feel better about himself and used him for a while and nobody noticed until Sixty found out Connor started to spread rumors (exaggerated truths) about him and slowly dropped him. Made Sixty lose everyone he had and maybe JUST MAYBE Nines becomes his friend later on since he was introduced later on to the entire place/event/yk
Rough timeline I thought up of (TW for vaguely referenced self harm?/manipulation/general dark topics) [edited 1]:
• CyberLife tower: Connor and Sixty alone because Hank couldn't go/CyberLife told him to piss off/something. Connor convinces Sixty to help him and join him into the revolution (tried to deviate him but it failed.. BECAUSE SIXTY WAS ALREADY A DEVIANT LMAO [he deviated because he didn't want to just replace Connor. he wanted him dead for reasons])
• Okay, Sixty finally gives in and helps Connor.
• Connor and Sixty become best friends, brothers even! And Connor uses Sixty slowly for the revolution, for different cases, to get information out of people he couldn't get, emotional help (Sixty couldn't originally because he was too fucked up but Connor was oh so helpless so he had to) and etc etc (aka I'll think of it later)
• Cool, Connor introduces Sixty to the entire DPD group/his "friends"/people he knows lol (Hank, Gavin + Nines if Nines iS there, Markus and the Jericrew, etc)
• Connor starts drifting away from Sixty, and he fights to keep the friendship floating because Connor is all he has really. Without Connor he didn't have the rest of his friends bc he's heavily antisocial/introverted and clung onto Connor.
• Sixty finds Connor and overhears him talking shit about Sixty and spreading rumors about him (again, exaggerated truths about things like his past, how he "deviated before he tried to murder me!! clearly he hates me, and hates the revolution, and clearly he's just using us so he can infiltrate the revolution!! He's CyberLife's puppet!!", his personal issues but dramatized and made it to look like malice, etc etc)
• Sixty tried to fight the claims, he tried so hard. But his own introverted nature fucked him over and he was all alone again. Connor fucked him over and none of the mutual friends wanted anything to do with him (if he joined the DPD he also got fired for all of it bc it caused major drama and fights and Fowler just didn't want to deal with that bullshit and clearly the problem is Sixty)
• Sixty's all alone. Hopeless. He turns to being pretty self destructive and angry and self-blamey
• Nines finds him one day while he was having a little meltdown by himself because he's so fucking angry at himself and the world and Connor but he can't blame Connor cause Connor was right, of course he was, Sixty was just a monster and-
• Nines tries to help him. He tries to talk him out of it, and it worked. But then Sixty realized. Sixty shuts him out bc he thinks he's just like Connor + guilt
• Sixty just stays alone and hopeless for a while. Week probably . Nines kept trying to help but Sixty just kept shutting him out.
• Finally Sixty blows up on Nines in an angry fit and tells him everything, probably breaks down crying by the end and Nines is just there. Processing. Realizing.
• Nines finally becomes Sixty's friend. But Nines carries conversations and anytime they see each other Sixty is out of it, still shut up in holding a stoic mask. Sixty probably wishes Nines would leave him alone sometimes, but sometimes he wishes he could be like how he was with Connor, but it wasn't the same. Guilt still ate at him because he really thought he was at fault
I have nothing further of this point since I need to go to sleep and I know this is like. So Messy and probably awful since it's an impulsive decision/idea/me mashing together an idea because fml and i feel awful so I ruin a character's life in an au
A lot of it is really unspecific and then the very specific parts, can you tell I'm not so great at writing?anyways I kinda like the idea but at the same time I gotta go to sleep so idk. I'll read this again in the morning/tomorrow and reblog with some changes or ideas if i come up with em or complete regret because idk im too tired to proofread and I've been typing/plotting for far too long/Nines is such a man/I needed some kind of comfort so I had to add in a savior/idk how I ended up making Connor the fuckin villain of it all when Connor's my favorite/I'm just awesome like that
ok goodnight, hopefully this doesn't suck too much
hey i got a cool idea for an au/comic maybe does anybody want to hear about it

The natural draft cooling towers are continuously exposed to unforgiving working conditions. As such, the conditions can foster extreme erosion of the inserted steel support, substantial delamination, and spalling. Condition evaluation of cooling towers is tiresome. Read more!!!
