Palestinians have historically cultivated the land, not just with olive trees, but also with figs, apricots, oranges, and dates. Yet, Zionist propaganda, though a concentrated effort to steal Palestinian land, has insisted on “making the desert bloom.” The desert has already been blooming and supporting its Indigenous population, as it has for thousands of years. Since the early twentieth century, Zionists have nevertheless co-opted the language of environmentalism and sustainability as a means of forcing the native Arab population off of the lands they covet. The Jewish National Fund (JNF), a self-described Zionist organization, has an explicit mission: to acquire land throughout Palestinian territories and plant trees—with “proud Jewish identity.” The JNF claims to have planted 240 million trees over 227,000 acres. This tree-planting crusade is detrimental to the land. Pine trees that constitute the colonist’s imaginary of a forest in Europe replace the native plant species and change the soil’s chemistry, such that agricultural crops cannot thrive. This further displaces Palestinians, as well as the nomadic Bedouin peoples, who rely on the land for grazing their cattle. Settlers want to extract from the “blooming desert.” In contrast, the Indigenous approach to land is one of mutual respect and nourishment: the land sustains life and culture, a culture that settler-colonialism wants to erase. To achieve this end, the Zionist occupation has used a variety of tactics to disrupt the Palestinian economy, including controlling water resources so that groves cannot be irrigated as needed, which is especially important now given the effects of the climate crisis. Additionally, the Zionists instituted a permit system that has prevented olive farmers from accessing their trees for all but a handful of days per year. This has made it difficult, if not impossible, to do necessary maintenance like pruning and weeding, greatly impacting the quality of the harvest. Most egregiously, the Zionists erected walls separating farmers from their groves, slicing up plots of land that have been in the same family for generations. Such measures have forced olive farmers to rely on olives of subpar quality. Because of the limited days that farmers are given to access their trees, they might be forced to pick the olives before peak ripeness, affecting the quality of the olive oil produced and therefore the prices that the oil will fetch. A 1994 New York Times article summarized the struggle succinctly: “The Palestinians planted tiny olive trees; the Israeli soldiers dug them up. The Palestinians lay down in the road to block a bulldozer; the Israelis carted them off to police vans.”

Supporting Humanity: A Food Appeal to Feed the Hungry
In a world where plenty exists alongside scarcity, the act of feeding the hungry stands as a beacon of hope and compassion. At Muslim Charity, we recognize the pressing need to address food insecurity, a silent crisis affecting millions globally. Our Food Appeal initiative embodies our commitment to alleviating hunger and nourishing communities in need.
Understanding the Need
Food Insecurity: Defined as the lack of reliable access to sufficient quantities of affordable, nutritious food, food insecurity knows no borders. It plagues both developed and developing nations, affecting individuals and families who struggle to meet their basic nutritional needs. According to recent studies, approximately 811 million people worldwide are undernourished, highlighting the urgency of addressing this humanitarian issue.
Impact of Hunger: Beyond the physical discomfort, hunger undermines health, education, and economic stability. Children are particularly vulnerable, facing developmental setbacks due to malnutrition. Families caught in cycles of poverty often must choose between food and other essential needs, perpetuating a cycle of deprivation.
The Role of Food Appeals
What is a Food Appeal?: A Food Appeal is a targeted campaign aimed at raising awareness and resources to combat hunger. It mobilizes communities, businesses, and individuals to contribute towards providing food aid and sustainable solutions to food insecurity.
Why Feed the Hungry?: Providing nutritious meals is not just about filling empty stomachs; it’s about restoring dignity and fostering resilience. By ensuring access to food, we empower individuals to pursue education, employment, and personal growth.
Muslim Charity’s Commitment
Our Mission: At Muslim Charity, we believe in the power of collective action to create meaningful change. Our Food Appeal is rooted in our Islamic values of compassion (rahma) and charity (sadaqah), guiding us to serve humanity irrespective of race, religion, or nationality.
Impactful Programs: Through strategic partnerships and on-the-ground efforts, we implement sustainable food security programs worldwide. From emergency food distributions in conflict zones to long-term agricultural projects promoting self-sufficiency, each initiative is designed to meet immediate needs while building community resilience.
How You Can Make a Difference
Get Involved: Your support is crucial in transforming lives. Whether through donations, volunteering, or spreading awareness, every action counts. By participating in our Food Appeal, you join a global movement dedicated to ending hunger and promoting social justice.
Donate: Your financial contributions enable us to purchase and distribute nutritious meals to those in need. Even a small donation can make a significant impact on someone’s life.
Volunteer: Join our team of dedicated volunteers who work tirelessly to organize events, raise awareness, and support our food distribution efforts.
Spread the Word: Use your voice to amplify our message. Share our Food Appeal campaign on social media, engage your network, and inspire others to take action.

Things You Need to Know About South Pasadena, CA
South Pasadena, CA, commonly abbreviated to S.P or South Pas, is a beautiful little city in the greater Los Angeles region known for its charm and quality of life.
Between Pasadena and Los Angeles, South Pasadena is a desirable place to live and a city that celebrates its rich history, excellent schools, and community warmth. This article will review some interesting facts about South Pasadena and why you would fall in love with it.
Rich Historical Heritage
South Pasadena is steeped in history, as confirmed by the well-maintained buildings and rich traditions observed for many years.
The city was officially associated in 1888 as one of Los Angeles County's oldest municipalities. This legacy can be seen in its captivating business and residential districts. Many of these buildings have been closely reconstructed; some are as tall and majestic as they once were.
Mission Street is historic and maintains its popularity as a center of century-old architecture. It has several shops, fashion outlets, and restaurants that contribute to the appeal of any good city.
The Meridian Iron Works Museum, located in a perfectly preserved 19th-century building, provides nearby residents and visitors with a view of the city’s industrial past.
Dedication to the Beauty of Nature and Sustainability
Among the beautiful things South Pasadena offers are the efforts to protect the city’s natural bonds. The city is proud of its growing, tree-lined streets and many parks. For example, let's consider Garfield Park.
It is one of the most famous parks in our community, and it is known for its plenty of green spaces, playgrounds, and picnic areas, where people can participate in various outdoor activities and community get-togethers.
Moreover, South Pasadena values its sustainable actions. The city has put numerous green projects into practice, such as town tree planting campaigns, water-possessed programs, and community gardens, which benefit not only the environment but also the lives of the residents.
Excellent Educational Opportunities
Quality education is a significant pull factor for families considering relocation to South Pasadena. The South Pasadena Unified School District is renowned for its fine traditions in education, which are testified by the best scores in state and national tests.
The schools here feature a top-notch academic curriculum backed by sophisticated technologies and many extracurricular activities that provide a healthy balance between studies and growth.
Vibrant Community Life

Families, friends, and neighbors go out together to see fireworks and parades, eat delicious foods, and participate in festivities that will make unforgettable memories.
Additionally, the city features an attractive farmers' market that uplifts its agriculture and serves as a meeting place for residents to buy fresh food from the farmers themselves. A market like this proves how much the community values eco-friendly practices and healthy lifestyles.
Proximity to Major Attractions
Consisting of a quiet suburb, South Pasadena has a small-town atmosphere while also benefiting from its proximity to major big-city attractions in Southern California.
Downtown Los Angeles, whose cultural spaces include museums, theaters, and cultural centers, is only half an hour's drive away from us.
Safe and Inviting Atmosphere
Safety is a key factor in any community, and South Pasadena outperforms the other cities in the area regarding security.
The local police department is a critical stakeholder in the community through policies that aim to create an interface between residents and enforcement agencies, thus creating a safe environment for everyone.
A Particular Spot for Arts and Culture
South Pasadena has extraordinary cultural development; many different exhibitions, galleries, and festivals express art there. For instance, the South Pasadena Arts Crawl transforms the city into an arts district that comes to life with live local artists, musicians, and crafters.
Being part of the South Pasadena community offers a distinctive amalgamation of historical traditions, educational renown, natural beauty, and closeness to the life of big cities.
Being environmentally friendly, providing a safe environment, and supporting its cultural activity make this place a perfect location for those considering relocating to an area with tranquility and easy access to urban amenities. If you are drawn to its educational opportunities, community events, or small-town charm, South Pasadena is where people feel they want to live.
Architectural Diversity and Charm
A significant feature of South Pasadena is its rich architectural diversity, which contributes to the formation of a unique atmosphere that is very important for the spirit of a place. This area houses lovely Craftsman-style bungalows and extraordinary Victorian estates, demonstrating the city’s developmental history and the different tastes of its residents. These uniquely designed buildings not only help to make the cityscape attractive but also give residents the chance to choose from many different kinds of houses. All the neighborhoods of South Pasadena have a unique personality. This is true mainly by the design of the homes and the room layout, making it simple to feel at home even for someone who just moved there.
Improving Local Economy and Business Climate
Currently, South Pasadena is experiencing a healthy economy resulting from a vibrant local business climate conducive to small businesses and entrepreneurship growth.
The city, located near important business places like Downtown Los Angeles and Pasadena, also contributes to the economic prosperity of this area, offering many job and business development pursuits.

Riding the Wave of Ocean Heroes: Conservation & Sustainability
Hello lovelies ໒꒰ྀི´ ˘ ` ꒱ྀིა I hope you've been doing great since the last entry hehe. I just wanted to express my heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you for your ongoing support and interaction with my weekly updates. This post will be my last (at least for a while). I really hope you've managed to pick up a thing or two from my blog. Thank you for being here, and I appreciate all of you (づ๑•ᴗ•๑)づ♡
Now, let's dive into something super cool today – marine conservation and how we can be kinder to our oceans.
Tumblr media
Did you know? Around half of the world's population lives within 100 kilometers of the coast. That's a lot of people living near the sea, right?
Coastal places by the sea are like gold mines for our planet. They help out the global economy, and they do some pretty amazing stuff, like storing carbon (which is great for the environment), protecting our shores, and providing us with yummy food (Mcleod et al. 2011; Barbier et al. 2011).
You see, more than 775 million people really rely on the sea and its coastal wonders (Selig et al. 2018). For example, fish is a big deal, giving about 3.2 billion people some of their protein. It's even more crucial in places where people are still developing their countries (FOA 2018). Plus, it's not just food; it's like a vitamin boost in your meal. And, tons of people make a living out of fishing and farming seafood, almost 57 million of them! (FOA 2018).
Now, when we talk about tropical spots near the sea, they're like treasure chests. There are amazing places like coral reefs, mangroves, and seagrasses that are teeming with life, and they help out our planet in so many ways. That's why a bunch of groups and campaigns are working hard to keep these places safe and sound.
Let's focus into how people in Malaysia are doing for a sec. Here are some rock stars doing their part to save these coastal wonders:
ICRI (International Coral Reef Initiative) Malaysia: These people are all about creating safe spaces in the sea for our underwater buddies to thrive. Right now, only 1.4% of Malaysia's waters are protected. They're on a mission to change that!
The Dugong & Seagrass Conservation Project: This one's all about saving dugongs (those adorable sea cows) and the seagrass they munch on in the Bay of Brunei, Lawas, Sarawak East Malaysia. It's a big deal because these seagrasses need some protection from overfishing and other stuff that could hurt them. The locals are getting in on the action too.
Tropical Research and Conservation Centre: These ocean heroes are based in the Celebes Sea, and they're all about saving sea turtles and fixing up coral reefs that got bashed up by fish bombing practices in Malaysia. They're on a mission to keep our underwater world vibrant and healthy.
So, there you have it! These incredible peeps are working hard to make sure our oceans stay awesome. It's all about taking big steps and little steps, but together, we can keep those secret underwater gardens thriving 🌊⋆。°்⋆
Tumblr media
Author's note: One of my all-time favorite YouTube channels recently released a new video that I believe is absolutely worth your time. His videos are like compelling stories paired with stunning cinematography. In this latest video, he highlights the alarming issue of the world's coral reefs deteriorating. It's crucial to shed light on real-world issues that are overlooked.

Book Review
The Texas - Israeli War: 1999 by Jake Saunders & Howard Waldrop
It’s 1999, seven years since they dropped the nuclear bombs and devastated the world with chemical and biological warfare. The human race has known nothing but warfare ever since. The world’s population is in decline, all except for the nation of Israel where it continues to grow beyond sustainable means. Israeli mercenaries hire themselves out to fight wars for the major countries. Some of those troops end up in the U.S.A. This is the situation in the misleadingly titled The Texas – Israeli War: 1999 by Jake Saunders and Howard Waldrop. It is a short novel with a provocative premise, but a shockingly ordinary plot.
Actually the premise is completely bonkers. It all starts when Ireland doses the British government with LSD, setting off a chain reaction. The U.K. then attacks China and South Africa with nuclear weapons, Russia and Canada step in to defend the British, and China launches chemical and biological attacks on both nations. The chemical agents used by China get carried by wind across the border into America and decimate all the vegetation, natural and agricultural. Meanwhile Texas secedes from the United States and kidnaps the American president while the dopey Vice President runs the country as a dictatorship. The CIA hire a team of Americans, Israeli mercenaries, and disgruntled Texan nationalists who want Texas to rejoin the Union. Their mission is to invade Texas and rescue the president from a prison fortress while America seizes Houston and the oil fields on the eastern coast with the aid of the Cuban navy attacking from the Gulf of Mexico the way America seized Normandy in World War II. I’m not sure how the Cubans got mixed up in all this. Certainly Fidel and Che wouldn’t be too happy about this, but that is the story as told by the two authors. In the real world, anyhow, by 1999 the Cuban military probably didn’t have enough force to attack anything bigger than a college campus. Rack this book up as another science-fiction prediction that never came true.
Aside from the post-apocalyptic premise and a few minor details like tanks that shoot lasers and cockroaches that grow to the size of small dogs, there isn’t much of anything that is otherwise science-fiction about this whole venture. The plot is an ordinary military combat operation story and would mostly be the same regardless of the setting and where it takes place.
But the characters are written with sufficient depth to humanize them and make them interesting and sympathetic. Sol is an aging military commander from Israel and he has made marriage and retirement plans with his hot military cohort Myra Kalan. Another commander named Brown is a war weary African – American segeant who wants all the combat to end so he can experience the peace that he has never known. The Texan Mistra accompanies the tank platoon because, being a former member of the fascistic militant group the Sons of the Alamo, he has an intimate knowledge of the fortress layout where they hold the president captive.
On a technical level, this book is quite good. Although the plot is pedestrian, the suspense and narrative tension are done effectively. The action scenes are fast-paced and exciting. The characters are realistic and easy to relate to. The pacing is good and in terms of descriptiveness, there is a lot of imagery and world-building that works quite well; it reminds me of the bleak and desolate landscapes of J.G. Ballard novels. The biggest problem is the overbearing arbitrariness of it all. Why are the Israelis cast as the mercenaries? Soldiers from just about any nation would have worked just as well. My guess is that one of the two authors is Jewish, but that wouldn’t account for much in terms of the story. The novel over all doesn’t appear to be commenting on anything specific. The troops are diverse and multi-ethnic which is good; there is even a strong female character in Myra Kalan. The catastrophic environmental destruction and hellacious nature of the war make sense for a novel written during the Cold War and the Vietnam War era, a time when environmentalism was taking root in American society. The oil companies are greedy and evil while the Texan nationalists are vicious and Nazi-like. The authors have a definite Liberal streak. But these are small details of the story, not the main point of it all. And the way that Cuba comes to fight on the side of the U.S. federation gets no explanation either. This novel just doesn’t have any definite meaning when it seems like some kind of statement should be there.
The Texas – Israeli War: 1999 is an interesting and well-written book, but it lacks something substantial to make it truly great. It is an interesting precursor to the post-apocalyptic movie and fiction trend of the 1980s; think of the Mad Max cycle of movies and all the imitations it spawned. If you want to read this for fun, than go for it. If you are looking for something meaningful, don’t bother.
And regarding the Israeli soldiers fighting in Texas, that leaves only one question in my mind: what would Kinky Friedman think of all this?

MyMaps Experience
This week I worked with MyMaps, a GoogleMaps based application that allows me to save/explore certain areas relevant to my studies. I worked alongside this tutorial for ease of learning and to speed things along so I didn’t have to go back and forth between the video and the test map. This map was centered around the main islands Hawaiian Archipelago (Hawai’i, Maui, Moloka’i, O'ahu, and Kaua’i) and focused on things like sustainable agriculture, ecotourism destinations, and nature preserves. For the purpose of this assignment, I chose one area of each category to showcase:
Sustainable Agriculture: Kualoa Ranch (Spoon and Fork Icon)
Ecotourism: Waimea Canyon State Park (Hiking Icon)
Nature Preserves: Volcanoes National Park (Volcano Icon)
Tumblr media
The user interface of My Maps is very friendly and simple. You won’t need any fancy coding or GIS skills to use it, which offers non-academic opportunities to people like writers who want to save certain locations for worldbuilding or reference purposes (which I certainly plan to do in the future). Back to the biodiversity side of things, MyMaps enables you to mark areas that are important to biodiversity for a myriad of reasons, whether that be preservation or education to the general public about biodiversity. Kualoa Ranch is an example of education, as it offers behind-the-scenes tours of how they grow their food in accordance with the ancient sustainable practices of the native Hawaiians. Volcanoes NP is a good example of preservation, as the park operates in accordance with the National Parks mission to “preserve unimpaired the natural and cultural resources and values of the national park system for the enjoyment, education, and inspiration of this and future generations” (About the National Park Service 2016).
When it comes to the individual locations selected, there are quite a few customization options available. You can select different icons (as mentioned above), but you can also color code them for things like different projects. I didn't do that for this assignment, but when I use this in the future for non-academic endeavors I can color code based on stories. Each location you pick has the option of adding images to the Infocard (shown below with Volcanoes NP). Once again, this has both biodiversity and writerly applications.
Tumblr media
When you zoom in on one particular area, you can outline the area with MyMaps. While I didn’t use this application, there is a way to import a data table into My Maps to get a more accurate outline of a desired location. This can be used for mapping vulnerable areas that are key to protecting biodiversity, such as Hanauma Bay (not shown on map) which serves as an important reserve for different species of fish and corals.
For finishing it all off, there are numerous options on the main card of the map. One of the most useful that I found was the “set to default view”. This enables me to preset where I want the map to open whenever I click on the Hawaiian Archipelago project, which saves me a lot of scrolling and dragging. Although I didn’t use any of the embedding options, it should be noted that much like a google doc or drive file, you have to enable sharing permissions in order to share it with others.
Tumblr media
That's all for this week! Happy mapping!

Farmers are increasingly using bioseeds because they provide higher agricultural yields, resistance to pests and diseases, and lower environmental impact. Consumer knowledge of the detrimental effects of chemical pesticides and fertilisers on health and the environment is driving this transition.
Government measures supporting organic farming and sustainable agriculture techniques help to fuel this trend. For example, the European Union's Farm to Fork Strategy intends to reduce the use of chemical pesticides by half and raise organic farming to 25% of total farmland by 2030. This trend is projected to continue to fuel demand for bioseeds in the future years.
Market Segmentation:
The cereals & grains category dominates the bioseed market, owing to the growing global demand for organic cereals and grains. This dominance can be linked to increased knowledge of the health benefits of organic grains and the use of sustainable farming practices. Major cereal crops, such as wheat, maize, and rice, are seeing a considerable shift towards bioseed usage.
Recent industrial advances have accelerated the segment's expansion. For example, Bayer CropScience recently announced the launch of Acremax, a novel bio-based maize seed treatment that provides better protection against soil-borne pests and diseases. Farmers have responded positively to this invention, which is helping to expand the market segment.
Furthermore, government attempts to promote organic farming have played an important role in pushing the use of bioseeds in grain production. The Indian government's National Mission for Sustainable Agriculture (NMSA) has promoted the use of bioseeds in cereal growing, resulting in a 20% rise in organic grain production in the last three years. Such supporting regulations and technical improvements are likely to strengthen the cereals & grains segment's position in the bioseed market.

Solar Power Subsidy in Madhya Pradesh 2024: A Comprehensive Guide
Madhya Pradesh, one of India’s most resource-rich states, is making significant strides toward renewable energy, particularly solar power. With abundant sunshine throughout the year, the state is an ideal candidate for harnessing solar energy to meet its growing power needs. The government—both at the center and state level—has launched several initiatives to promote solar energy adoption. Among these are solar power subsidies and incentives, which aim to make solar installations more affordable for residents, businesses, and farmers.
In this guide, we’ll provide an overview of the solar power subsidy schemes available in Madhya Pradesh for 2024, explain the eligibility criteria, and help you understand how to apply for these subsidies.
1. A Brief Overview of Solar Energy
Solar energy is the most abundant and clean form of energy available to us. It is harnessed by capturing sunlight using solar panels, which convert sunlight into electricity. With environmental concerns like climate change and rising energy costs, solar power has emerged as a reliable and sustainable alternative to fossil fuels. As technology advances, solar energy has become more affordable, making it a viable solution for households, businesses, and agricultural applications. In India, the government has made substantial investments in solar energy, including through financial incentives and subsidies aimed at increasing adoption across the country.
2. The Potential of Solar Energy in Madhya Pradesh
Madhya Pradesh is blessed with ample sunlight, receiving around 300 sunny days per year. This makes it one of the best states in India for generating solar energy. The state government has set ambitious targets to expand solar capacity, both at the residential and commercial levels. Madhya Pradesh is also focused on developing solar power plants and rooftop solar systems to meet growing energy demand, reduce dependence on conventional energy sources, and contribute to national energy security. The availability of solar subsidies further accelerates the transition to renewable energy, making it more accessible to the masses.
3. Solar Subsidies in Madhya Pradesh
To promote solar energy in the state, the Government of Madhya Pradesh, along with the central government, offers various subsidies and incentives for individuals, businesses, and farmers looking to install solar power systems.

Health-Conscious Meal Options:
The main innovations are the latest thermal technologies such as gasification and pyrolysis that are faster cleaner and more productive than the traditional process of incineration. The processes eliminate the need for excess raw material input and harmful waste emissions by converting wastes to valuable syngas and biofuels. In addition, especially for food waste, the biogas technology also helps to generate electricity and is expected to use more in the future due to its economic benefits.
The other growing area is the integration of smart waste management systems using IoT and AI technologies in order to achieve optimal collection, sorting and processing of the waste. This minimizes waste management costs and maximizes waste resource recovery from the materials. The nation is therefore improving on waste management technologies to facilitate the benefits of renewable energy sources without ecological degradation and therefore a green economy sustainability is ensured in the process.
