Bird-shaped vessel
Korea, 3rd century
Footed bird-shaped vessels have been found primarily at burial sites on the southern Korean peninsula, near the Nakdong River. Occurring in pairs, they probably served as funeral ritual vessels and burial objects. Liquid was poured into this example through an opening at the back and flowed out through the bird’s tail.

True crime fanatic arrested in South Korea for killing, dismembering woman ‘out of curiosity’
Tumblr media
Woman’s phone reportedly reveals three months’ worth of search history on how to hide corpse
Police in the South Korean city of Busan have arrested a 23-year-old true crime fanatic woman in connection with the killing and dismembering of another.
Law enforecment authorities said they believe the killing was done out of the suspect’s “curiosity” to experience what murder felt like, according to South Korean outlet The Chosun Ilbo.
Jung Yoo-jung, 23, reportedly confessed to the killing and was indicted for murder on Friday. (2/6/23)
Tumblr media
The suspect was driven by her desire to kill someone for real after becoming “obsessed with murder from TV programmes and books,” a police spokesperson reportedly said.
Police said Ms Jung’s phone search history revealed three months’ worth of information gathering how to hide a corpse.
She had allegedly watched numerous true crime TV shows and borrowed crime books from a library, the local newspaper, one of the country’s oldest outlets, reported.
While she initially claimed to have killed the unnamed victim after an argument, Ms Jung later admitted that was a lie.Police said they are conducting tests to see if Ms Jung is a psychopath, according to Insider.
Tumblr media
The true crime fanatic found her victim through an app that connects parents with private tutors, and presented herself to the now deceased, posing as the mother of a ninth-grader.
She reportedly went to meet the victim disguised as a student wearing a school uniform and fatally stabbed her, the report says. Then, after dismembering the victim and placing some of her body parts in a suitcase, she took a taxi and dumped rest of it in the Nakdong river to “make it look like the victim had disappeared”, according to the police.
“Jung was a loner and a recluse who has been unemployed since graduating from high school five years ago,” authorities said

How To Become A Dragon
10/10; Fantasy, comedy, drama (?)
This is another artwork of the author Super Secret, whom I loved so much because of the cute yet cool artstyle and the interesting storyline. But, I haven't finished Super Secret yet, cause of slow paced modern romance genre that I'm not really into right now, but this work, How To Become A Dragon, is just the epitome of my all time favorite dessert.
It got cute yet handsome character, goofy yet smart, the friendship revolves around various type of love, like romantic; family; friends; forgiving; and growing. A story that is humorous yet deep and carry this big of precious meaning behind its back. How can I ask for more?
But they did give us more. The author succeed remarkably at conveying these meaning about relationship with others. The author gave complex yet they managed to present it nicely, making us easily understanding these characters.
For example, the main character himself. At the beginning of the story he may look naive and too good for his own, even throughout the story, but, but but but, turned out the author prepare something for him. Bari was once betrayed! Usually betrayal is the start of someone's villain arc, whereas on the other hand there is this kind of story, where the MC just exceedingly kind and could forgive anything anyone. That premise, is actually ridiculous. It's so inhumane like to easily forgiving. It's human tendencies to be crude and vengeful.
But, there's a special condition. If you can show the reason behind of this unbelievably kindhearted character neatly or you managed to come up with somehow logical reason for his action, you can surpass the ridiculous level and achieve the masterpiece level!
Just like how this manhwa did. Bari character is the example for this specific statement, 'The author gave complex yet they managed to present it nicely'. For me this mean, complexity of character is not just of how they past twisted and tangled, but also about how deep the author get on aligning the actions they did throughout the story, not only the actions at current timeline but also at their past. It's about how the author make the character as a real person, that always have reason behind every action they did or change of heart they had throughout the story.
Seriously, this wrap of storytelling is what the most keep me hooked reading it.
Quick synopsis about this: Bari, an Imoogi, creature that had through a thousand years of training but when the time has come to ascend they failed because of human that saw them and said "It's a snake!", got second chance to become a dragon when the former Nakdong River Dragon passed away. But the test is about coexisting with human, so he seek out the descendant of the person who failed his past ascension for assistance, which is Young Yoo.

Andong is a city on the Nakdong River, in South Korea. It’s known for its open-air heritage museums. Andong Folk Museum uses exhibits and re-enactments to explain traditional ceremonies like weddings. Its outdoor area has thatched houses and a pair of carved totem poles.              WELCOME CHO MISU
                                                         TO THE PROMISE LAND
DETAILS
age / age they appear: 132 / 24  occupation: unemployed/farmhand group: none
PERSONALITY
LIFE LINE. that short, uncertain line that starts at the dip between your thumb and forefinger and ambles over and down your palm---no, look closer and see how it breaks in two places, how that grand arc is really three lines pretending to be one.
you’re resilient. you are not strong, you are not hardened, but you are capable of enduring, and this is both your gift and curse. you will live many lives. you already have, haven’t you? survival, i know. to survive, you had to have so many lives. but how many times have you died and been born again? the tears in your line aren’t neat; see how each edge is subtly frayed, like the end of a thread cut but not tied, like every minuscule version of you that continues to live on in the back of your head as a symbol of---hope?
you hope that you might be them again. you hope that you could be soft again, gentle again, but those versions of you are dead and you know, you know, that these remnants are only ghosts. still, you live. you live with the hope, if it makes it more bearable. but you live, and you want to live, and you will live. you are willing to pay the cost to do so.
HEAD LINE. that graceful but turbulent arc that runs from the length of your index finger to your ring finger. like the edges of your life line, it begins frayed, a cluster of fine little scratches that remind you of grass blades, pulled from the earth and teeming from a clenched fist. they coalesce into a line eventually but it’s far from distinct, instead patterned with small circles and chain links all the way to the end.
they say this foretells poor mental fortitude. it must appear to be the truth when you spent so many days with only one hand in the world, the other clinging to the vision they fed you of a pure, harmonious world that they said you were helping create. those seeds of poison they served you on a plate mustn’t have helped, either, for the scars they left on your soft throat and softer mind.
your mind. sometimes now you feel that it’s as numerous as those chain links. your devotion and your repulsion, your rage and your mercy, you feel they shouldn’t belong, and yet there they sit side by side on that long chain of you.
and you hold yourself together. you’re vigilant, even if the world thinks otherwise. you are calculated, purposeful. no matter what’s in your head, what they’ve stuffed there and what they’ve taken and what has grown in the wasteland they ravaged, you know who you are, even if others never truly will.
HEART LINE. it is unmistakable. see? it starts beneath your center finger and slopes deep before finishing off the other side of your palm. see its resemblance to a well, a bowl, or a hand that is cupped, ready to receive.
so you are devout. your god is shattered and infinitesimal, and she is everywhere you look---from the vial that you saved of your river’s crimson water, to the nightly rituals you continue to perform for yourself, to the memories of flower-weaving and blood-letting that you continue to preserve.
are you an exposed nerve, and not just your heart; you, you, you with your scales for armor that you would shed for anything that touches you, you who invites touch even as your god warns you that not all hands that reach out are good.
it’s all you know. it’s all you know how to believe:
you were born for the knife, but you have grown to love it. these dats, you offer your heart out of your own palms.
if you must be destined for the altar, as the gift the kill the sacrifice, then let it be an altar of your choosing.
HISTORY
a small riverlet branches off of the nakdong river and courses through a portion of the sobaek mountains. near the turn of the 20th century, a drilling operation knocked minerals loose from the mountain, including iron and clay that tinted the water red. formed by what may have been a plea for help, an imugi formed in the water, red as the river it was created to protect.
downstream, the river fed through a secluded village of witches and werewolves who found their water supply suddenly tainted. illnesses began to plague the old and the young, costing lives, and the superstitious community, grew to believe that they had been cursed. the discovery of an imugi in a fisherman’s net one day reinforced their beliefs.
the imugi was taken in by the elders and named minhui. however, sheltered and so far removed from reality, the villagers did not understand that they had found an imugi, instead believing that they had been sent a divine sign.
no, not only that. they believed a myriad of things about minhui — that it was the embodiment of misfortune, that she was a god who had been sent to save them, that he was a poor child possessed by a devil. all seemed like terrifying possibilities. to appease whatever it was, they built a temple at the heart of their village, then the first of many altars where they would lay sacrifices in hopes of purifying their river again.
when minhui took on a human form, they were worshipped as both god and vessel. their serpent form became the deity that the villagers prayed to for mercy. minhui was raised under their watchful eye, taught the villagers’ beliefs before it even learned about itself. it learned to value the villagers’ sacrifices and its role in the community — and it learned to lie still on the altar whenever they called for a scale from its back. it learned to be glad for the cure it could provide for its believers, to understand that their sacrifice warranted a sacrifice from her too.
when it presented as a human, he could pretend, even if just for a brief moment, that he was just like anyone else in the village, simply afflicted by a curse or an illness. that the beast they worshipped, that thing that he became when he slipped into the river, was something else that lived in him, a separate voice that spoke in his ear and a separate entity that seized control when he slipped into a serpent's form.
still, even when he looked like the humans, spoke like the humans, and behaved like the humans, the humans regarded him with fear or, at their worst, pity. if she wasn’t god, then he was the lamb brought for slaughter.
after a century of worship and sacrifice, love and loathing, one was bound to begin believing in it all, too.
the outsiders came months ago. a small, haggard group, they came asking for respite in the village. the elders opened their gates magnanimously and helped nurse many back to full health. for weeks, the outsiders lived among them, even establishing a rapport with many of the villagers — even the creature that they kept hidden in the temple.
in truth, the outsiders knew something that the villagers didn’t, and they had come to topple the village and route the cult that had ruled it for centuries.
in the dead of night, they freed all those whom they believed to be victims. a struggle broke out, and amidst the chaos, a flame was sparked. minhui awoke to a burning village and something loosing him from the temple, urging him to run, to find the island, to find sanctuary.
as with all things later, minhui never truly learned where to place the blame for that night. even as he stumbled across the country, clawing his way to the only place whose name he knew aside from his home, he never came to terms with the events of that that night, nor the irreversible changes it inflicted on his life.
he still hasn’t. it has been months now and he has a new name and supposedly a new freedom, yet he continues to clutch a small vial of his river’s water and pray to the same god that holds all of his fury for him. she shrieks for justice, for both the hand that held the sacrificial blade and the hand that brought down the walls of his home, and for the first time, the burden of quelling the beast falls on misu alone.
so he follows. what she desires, he has devoted himself to fulfilling.
never mind that the line continues to thin and thin. never mind that some days, the desires only feel like his own.
never mind that he and the god and the monster have begun to turn at the sound of the same name.

2.1.4. Gaya confederacy
Question 2: Foundation and fall of the unified Silla › 1. Era of the Three Kingdoms of Korea › 4. Gaya confederacy
Click here for table of contents
2.1.4. Gaya confederacy
Below is the summary quoted from the article entitled “Gaya stops developing after establishing a confederacy” in High School Textbook.
[While various small states had already developed in the Byeonhan area on the basis of rice farming and ironware culture, they developed as a confederacy around the third century with Geumgwan Gaya playing a central role.
In addition to producing high-quality iron, Geumgwan Gaya, located in the downstream of the Nakdong River, had an advantageous condition for marine transport. The iron was used to manufacture weapons and farming tools, and iron plates were made for use as coins. Through trade with commanderies and counties of the Han Empire and also with Wa (Japan), Geumgwan Gaya built wealth […]
Gaya developed through competition with neighboring Baekje and Silla and had an especially close relationship with Wa (Japan). The culture of Gaya not only affected that of Silla but also promoted development of the ancient Japanese culture. However, Gaya could not develop into a centralized state by getting out of the stage of confederacy of many small countries.]
In the third century, Jinhan (Silla) was composed of twelve states, and at the same time Byeonhan (Gaya confederacy) also consisted of twelve states. However, Jinhan annexed Byeonhan, which comprised roughly the same size, and developed into the single state of Silla. What was the decisive difference between them?
The state of Silu, a small country in Sinhan, while being subordinate to Goguryeo, a strong power at that time, gained force and became Silla. Along with Goguryeo, Silla paid tribute to the Chinese dynasty and learned the brand new culture and necessary know-how to survive as a state. On the other hand, the twelve small states of Byeonhan ignored the fact that neighboring Silla and Baekje were getting stronger by putting in place the centralized political system or reinforcing military equipment, probably because they benefited from iron trade. It seems likely that they were not strongly willing to form a single state and protect themselves.
Otherwise, it might have been that each small state affirmed its autonomy, which hindered the appearance of a strong leader who could build a centralized state, even after the creation of the confederacy. As a result, the rich Byeonhan (Gaya) was annexed to Jinhan (Silla), without having the opportunity to benefit from its wealth.

Began scanning again last night. There are too many negatives to count, but I started with the New55 negatives first.
This is the best of the batch...  I modified a 545 polaroid back to be accepted onto a Mamiya Universal. This was a couple minutes at f16. Rated at about 25 ISO
Since the negative is 4x5, and the image size is 4x4, I’m shooting square on 4x5 film.
