[my gift for @thecooleraveragejamm , for @mcyt-valentines !]
Okay, so!
My giftee was interested in c!Technoblade and a playlist, so I made a little song cycle! The cycle is in 8 parts (acts) with 7 songs each, and the whole thing will take just under 3 hours to listen to, with each individual act being 20-25 minutes. I'm posting the graphics, song lists, and spotify playlists (there are 8 separate playlists) in order, but if spotify isn't your jam, isn't accessible, or if you'd rather all in one go, at the end of this post (along with some more info about the cycle) is a youtube playlist that contains all 56 songs all at once!
Tumblr media
Act 1: World Conqueror • I'm Born to Run (American Authors) • Taking Over the World (Coyote Theory) • Aulon Raid (The Mountain Goats) • Renegades (X Ambassadors) • Ends of the Earth (Lord Huron) • Everybody Wants to Rule the World (Lorde) • Immortals (Fall out Boy)
Tumblr media
Act 2: (We Have) The Blade • The Horror and the Wild (The Amazing Devil) • Revolution (The Score) • Riot (Hollywood Undead) • Legend (The Score) • The Phoenix (Fall Out Boy) • Raging Fire (Phillip Phillips) • Unstoppable (The Score)
Tumblr media
Act 3: Interlude; Peer Pressure • Borderline (Tame Impala) • Angry Too (Lola Blanc) • Victorious (Panic! at the Disco) • Blood (End Credits) (My Chemical Romance) • Bang! (AJR) • Sinners (Barns Courtney) • Never Going Back (The Score)
Tumblr media
Act 4: Die Like One • Pale White Horse (The Oh Hellos) • Point of No Return (Starset) • Let's Kill Tonight (Panic! at the Disco) • Rebels (Call Me Karizma) • Enemies (The Score) • Born Ready (Zayde Wolf) • This is it (Oh The Larceny)
Tumblr media
Act 5: Retirement or; • Thousand Eyes (Of Monsters and Men) • People I Don't Like (UPSAHL) • Whatever it Takes (Imagine Dragons) • Under the Pressure (The Score) • Another Way Out (Hollywood Undead) • Monster (Willyecho) • Ghost (Confetti)
Tumblr media
Act 6: Welcome Home Theseus (Minor Acts of Terrorism) • Play Dirty (Kevin McAllister [SEBELL]) • Emperor's New Clothes (Panic! at the Disco) • Wrecking Ball (Mother Mother) • Glory and Gore (Lorde) • Bang Bang (Hippo Campus) • Allies or Enemies (The Crane Wives) • Novocaine (Fall Out Boy)
Tumblr media
Act 7: It Ends Today (I'm a Person) • Roots (Imagine Dragons) • Wolves (Sam Tinnesz, Silverberg) • My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark (Light 'Em Up) (Fall out Boy) • Fire (Barns Courtney) • Wine Red (The Hush Sound) • Take Me To War (The Crane Wives) • Ready Set Let's Go (Sam Tinnesz)
Tumblr media
Act 8: Sic Semper Tyrannis • Bit by Bit (Mother Mother) • Up The Wolves (The Mountain Goats) • Creature (Half • Alive ) • Kings (Tribe Society) • Run Like A Rebel (The Score) • The Ballad of the Broken Bones (The Low Anthem) • Hieroglyphs (The Oh Hellos) ━━━ ➼ ━━━━
I tried to pick music that aesthetically, musically, and lyrically matched c!Techno's vibes--the playlist follows his story from pre-DSMP to post-Doomsday (so not the whole thing, but a nice, peaceful ending point). The intention is for you to follow c!Techno's journey as you listen, and I think this playlist has a rather nice message about finding yourself and finding peace through rather hostile circumstances and worldviews. It gave me a lot of peace and joy to make, and I hope you enjoy, giftee and anyone else, and have fun listening! Youtube Link

Pizza Problems
I know all marriages run into rough patches from time to time.  It could be something like money problems to differences in how to deal with the children.  Heck at one point the wife and I locked horns about this little Hula Dancing Dashboard Doll that I picked up at a yard sale and displayed in our car.  Just looking at her bouncing around made me smile.  Well, my wife hated it.  She was hula dancing for two weeks and then surprisingly I found her in a kitchen drawer.  My wife said she was putting her foot down about that little Hula Girl in the grass skirt who loved to dance.  To be honest to this day I get a little sad when I watch NCIS Hawaii.  Let's be honest we wouldn't appreciate the sunny days as much if we didn't have a few storms once in a while. Well, the wife and I have come upon something that is causing tension in our home.  The weird thing is this was something that I thought made our marriage stronger and now it's causing tension between us.  I can sum it all up in one word.  Pizza!  We used to go out as a family and get a couple of pizzas and laugh and share about our day.  Now as soon as we go to order I start to get that feeling like when the dentist is getting ready to give ya a novocaine shot.  I like cheese and pepperoni and I'm fine.  You want a couple of mushrooms on it or some tomatoes, even green peppers.  You do what makes you happy.  I can live with it. (I'm a pleaser.)  The kids have the same attitude about our pizza.  But over the past year, my wife's topping & cooking demands for her pizza have gone off the rail.  My children even look at me with hopeless expressions as they hear what their mom demands on the pizza.  We used to order two pizzas to enjoy as a family.   We still order two but only one the three of us enjoy and my wife demands her unusual pizza that no one will touch but her.  She'll have two slices and no one will touch the rest. (She'll say to her massive amount of leftover pizza.  "Honey, we'll take it home and you can take it to work for lunch tomorrow."  )  That's not gonna happen.  My dog even sticks her nose up in the air when offered a slice of my wife's pizza.  We went out the other night for pizza and as the waitress took our order my wife told her she wanted her pizza well done.  The waitress replied; "Oh don't worry we do all our pizzas really well.  My wife goes "No I want my pizza well done, as in I want the bottom of it cooked to where it's almost burned.  I want a crisp bite on my pizza."  The poor waitress was woozy as she left our table.  I asked my wife if every time we order pizza now it has to be a production.  I just want a simple cheese and pepperoni pizza.  I do not want a cauliflower crust.  No jalapenos, no goat cheese.  Please no sprouts or leafy things on the pizza.  Pizza should bring us closer not push us apart.  I've always believed pizza is the food of love and togetherness.  I've always thought that in the Garden of Eden if Eve would have had the option of a slice of pizza or the apple, she'd have taken the pizza.  My wife and I for our first date had pizza.  A plain cheese and pepperoni.  That's where the magic all started.  The other night when we were eating pizza and she had her crazy topping pizza I just looked at her and thought where is my cheese and pepperoni lady love at?  I'm hoping this is just a phase.  My children won't join me with an intervention because their mom spoils them too much so even though they agree with me they will not do anything to mess up the gravy train they have with their mother.  So as of right now I'm being patient praying my lady will eventually regain her pizza sanity.  But to help me through this tough time my Hula Dancing Dashboard Doll is going back up in the car.

Bus to the East Side. Another visit to the dentist. Such awful music in the waiting room. But once I am called in things go pretty fast. I never know what to expect. This time it's novocaine and work on my jaw. Afterwards I try to make my way home before the novocaine wears off. I stop off to vote for Joe Biden. (The Presidential Primary Election. It only takes a minute. The poll is just across the street from my apartment.) Am somewhat successful in contolling the hurt but nursing pain tends to pall after a while and I do errands, like any other day.
Rumor of changing the name of Dulles airport to Trump. I want to see his name coming down, not going up. We are told that Hope Hicks is going to show up for the hush money trial. It is difficult for me to believe that this triail (small stuff, as things go) hasn't disappeared. In the meanwhile the other trials are being delayed, and delayed.

Have to decide if I'm going to go to the Social Security office and sit for hours or try to reach them on the phone. I do the latter. Told I will have an hour and half wait. Put the phone on speaker. Such insipid music. Get a live voice in about an hour. They will mail me a form. This is all about my not having taken out enough for taxes. I will adjust this so that I don't have a big hit when next year's tax time comes around.
Read obit for John Barth. 93. I remember when we were handing around "The Sot-Weed Factor" and getting a laugh. Barth followed this with "Giles, Goat-Boy." Note too that he was an amateur drummer. It is nice to remember some of the books that we "all were reading." Much of college was a grind but we had a few laughs and shared a few books.

I was wondering if your ‘sick songs’ playlist was available somewhere? I’m chronically ill as well and want to cultivate a similar concept but I don’t have a super expansive music taste.
I'll be doing a reply roundup soon (wanna recover from traveling for a bit first -n- ) but I want to answer this separately so it's easy to find :>
since everyone uses different music platforms and stuff I'll just make a list with song titles+artists so that you can find them wherever you prefer listening to music. and if anyone has any good ones I'm missing please feel free to suggest them! my playlist is always expanding as I hear (or re-hear) songs that strike me as the right something or other.
some are explicitly about illness (many of those are about mental illness rather than physical but yknow), others are just ~the vibes~. actual list under the cut. :v
picture window - ben folds, nick hornby sick and sad - toh kay her diamonds - rob thomas medicine - daughter give me novocaine - green day a better son/daughter - rilo kiley heel turn 2 - the mountain goats don't ask me why - great caesar this too shall pass - danny schmidt fair - the amazing devil the worst day since yesterday - flogging molly laughing with - regina spektor for those below - mumford and sons spare an angel - chris rice (I usually skip this one tbh) pompeii - bastille this year - the mountain goats blackbird - the beatles helplessness blues - fleet foxes eet - regina spektor nails for breakfast, tacks for snacks - panic at the disco late - ben folds cleopatra - the lumineers

You're taking grigor requests? Can you do some blurb (or longer if you want idc lmao,) of falling in love with him but reader is a servant and both sneak out of the palace to be together for good cause they're tired of sneeking?
Hello, there anon! I am so sorry this took so long (Secret Santa Season hit). But here is the blurb! I hope you enjoy it!
tw: swearing, mentions of sex, angst that ends in fluff.
Tumblr media
He was a kind man, he made you laugh, he was smart, and he loved you.
He was also married. To the Emperor's mistress. And you just changed his firewood.
Scrubbing the floors a little harder, you noticed the redness on your knuckles. The skin was rough. Blood seeped out. All that soap and water wrecked your palms. And the emperor often left a mess in every room that you had to clean up.
And whenever she walked by, her red silk skirts training after her with the click of her heels down the green hallway, you couldn’t help it. You looked. Right at her hands. Smooth and white from not a day of hard work. A hard day's work that included drinking wine, tossing balls onto the grass, and spreading her legs to the Emperor with a smile on her face as you held her crying husband in the other room.
Grigor was miserable. Obviously. And you were miserable here.
The other day Lady Svenska insisted on making blush by pricking your finger with her sewing needle. Blood dribbled out and you tapped it on her cheek, biting back the tears of pain.
You had chamber pots to empty. Instead, you ran to the Dymov apartments. The second you saw Georgiana leave, you knocked desperately at the door.
Grigor always greeted you with a kiss. He led you to a chair and handed you a towel.
“This…this is ridiculous…” he mumbles. “They can’t treat you like this.”
“But I’m…I’m just a serf…” you mutter. You were just another pair of working hands to wipe asses and be tossed into a fire when a plague broke out.
“I used to think serfs were just…just there, but you! Y/N- you’re sweet and good and brave! I used to be so…so miserable here all the time, now I just wait for you to appear!”
Eyes getting watery, despite the sting of the cloth on your hand, you smile up at him.
“And I used to be miserable here until I met you….” you spoke lovingly.
“I can’t believe they did this to you…” he continues. The white cloth he wraps tenderly around your hand seems to contrast the red walls of his room.
“I can’t believe your wife doesn’t regret fucking the emperor,” you retorted boldly. It was on your chest.
He looks ghostly white at the mention of it.
“I’m sorry, it…it’s just this place…everything about it and I keep seeing…how miserable you are with her. Why can’t we do something about it?” you asked.
“He’s my Emperor, he won’t let her go…and if he lets her go, she’ll find a way to run back to him…” he said. You hear giggles and a smashing of glass outside.
You huffed, both of you held onto each other, hearts slowing. Clinging as if for life.
“But…” he mumbled.
“But what…” you asked. You bite your lip and stare down at your hands. The prick mark is dimmer. Still present, but weak.
“It doesn’t…have to be this way. It’s always in this palace, this place….what if we…changed location…to a place where we don’t have to hide when we’re...together like this...” he suggested.
“I…I have some family. And…I clean Archie’s room every week. I’ve noticed certain documents…”
You looked up at him.
“The right ones…ones that end marriages...” you confess. A wicked smile crawls up your face and his.
A week later, Grigor crept up from his bed alone. It was the early part of the morning where the sun was present, but barely, Peeking out from the edge of the sky. He left his wedding ring and a signed paper of divorce for the Dymov couple. He folded it up, wrote Georgiana’s name along with a brief, angry letter saying goodbye. With a deep sigh, he slipped the ring off of his right hand, placed it on the desk in front of the fire, and walked out.
Meeting him, you put on your grey cloak. You left no letter. You had no real friends here. None you would trust this with. In the stables, you both greet each other with a squeeze of your hand, and only a few belongings in a small bag.
Hopping onto a small, discreet cart, Grigor snapped the reigns on the horses and both of you went away. He kept urging the horses to run as fast as possible. Baskets of vegetables from the kitchen were stuffed in the back. No one would think that vegetable farmers would be a Count and Servant eloping.
Your heart was pounding. That large grey palace slowly grew smaller…smaller…and smaller. You were far away by the time the sun rose and the rooster cried.
Partway through, you shivered from the cold Russian air. Grigor glanced up at you.
“Are you alright?” he asked.
“Nervous. Excited.”
“What did your family say?”
“They’d like to witness the wedding. It won’t be big. We will just say ‘I do’ and that’s it. There is an extra room where we’ll live…it will be so different than your life Grigor.”
He looked at you and smiled.
“If I’m with you, how could I ever be unhappy?” he said.
You leaned forward and kissed his cheek. It was a long time and a long drive. Your appearance prevented suspicion of any connection to royalty. You hugged your family and cried, introducing them to Grigor. Both of you thought you would never reach home. But there was no time to waste. It had to be finalized. Soon.
Reaching the church, your hands began to shake. Your dress was dirty and Grigor smelled like the horse. Both of you knelt before the altar in front of the priest as he prepared to begin the nuptials. Noticing the tremor, Grigor took your hand and you accepted it. It was just a quick, peasant wedding with a small peasant home awaiting you both. No parties with elaborate gowns and wigs. Only the odd festival with aprons and cloth hats. No more rich dining on oysters and vodka. Now you had to settle for bread and milk you got from the goats you milked.
But you didn’t need the rich clothes, balls, feasts, lavishness, and misery. You had each other. And a new life where you could be together.

🎵 Nie Mingjue either by himself, nie bros, or 3zun up to you!
okay oh boy, let me think. first thing that comes to mind is Eye of the Tiger because NMJ deserves the workout montage song. BUT.
Now Or Never, by We Are Scientists - because NMJ has never been one to stand schemes and secrets; also the 'There's so much that you need to know / I only hope you're ready' gives me vibes of him talking to NHS and preparing him to be sect leader.
One By One, by The New Shining - is a massive qi deviation song imo; slow loss of control and the dawning realisation that he can't get out of this.
possibly Novocaine, by Fall Out Boy - for that sweet sweet twisting of all feelings into anger because that's something he knows, something he can deal with.
For the Nie Bros specifically I have two different moods:
Welly Boots, by The Amazing Devil - which I found through a gifset; it kicked me in the hed with how perfect it was and I haven't known peace since then.
on a lighter note, Two Worlds, by Phil Collins - YES, it is from the Tarzan soundtrack and so what?? it's about family being oh so different but still important and loving so I stand by my choice.
now, 3zun are so complicated but first of all:
NMJ and JGY with No Children, by The Mountain Goats so jot that down.
I'm also thinking Est-ce Que Tu M'aimes, by GIMS because aaaaah love and hate are hard to distinguish.
we also have a classic, The Night We Met, by Lord Huron - this bad boy goes with almost anything for a reason, it is GOOD.
Lan Xichen is a sweetheart so he gets Always Remember Us This Way, by Lady Gaga - it's sweet and despite the grief and separation LXC still loved NMJ dearly.
BONUS: I saw a JGY video set to Thank YOu, Next and I think NMJ also deserves his pop break-up song so I saw New Rules, by Dua Lipa

There are literally not enough songs in the known universe that begin with  ‘E’ or ‘Z’ to complete the name. I hate this man and his ridiculously long name, I hate this ask game, I hate you I hate myself. This took my three fucking days, I hate it.

Oh god, I don't miss that. Having to spend 4 hours a week driving back and forth across town to multiple food banks (which for some reason, thankfully, don't talk to each other) which is technically not allowed, but people who can afford to paradoxically don't have a choice; because what the above people say about the range of foods you get is completely true. You never know what you will get, how much, where it came from, or how edible it will be.
I italicize the where it's from because food banks work on donation, and there's very little checks on the food that is donated. Such is how I ended up with a real life fucking Brazilian wandering spider in our food box. It hitched a ride on the red bananas, which by the way aren't even edible to humans without a lot of cooking. It was young, but nonetheless the scariest damn animal I have ever crossed paths with - and given that I love and study spiders, and am very familiar with this particular one on purpose, I am 100% sure it was a wandering spider in its 5th instar. I kept it as a pet for a time; they're really quite fragile in captivity as it happens, and are picky eaters like nothing else, so it only stayed alive for like 5 months, but it was an interesting critter to study.
Other things found in food boxes that were especially memorable include: deer jerky that was way to spicy, goat milk, a rotten pumpkin, a bag of beans that had so many bean beetles in it I actually started my own little colony of them (they're used to feed poison dart frogs and other micro critters; I made good money selling them actually, so that was a lucky break) a truly ancient box of cheerios that had grain mites and weevils, and smelled horrible; a jar of applesauce that was turning itself into cider and tasted like novocaine, a surprisingly edible container of expired yoghurt that was nonetheless not eaten - instead it was used to make our own yoghurt and cultured butter after one donation box literally gave us six gallons of whole milk - so we just. Made cheese and yoghurt and butter, because most the milk was on the verge of going bad. Yeah.
We also took a paltry bag of barley that was so eaten by grain moths it wasn't fit for human consumption, and used my nephews nifty little ramshackle forge to see if it would carbonize (turn into activated charcoal) and it did! Hurray! Now we didn't need to buy it for when someone ate something that was too off or toxic, cause you bet your ass we had no insurance and couldn't afford a doctor, much less the emergency room! Charcoal to the rescue! Stuff tastes God awful but it's better than dying of dysentery!
Food boxes force you to get real creative with what you get. I was lucky - I had animals, mostly feeder insects that I invested in while times were good, that would gladly eat whatever we could not, and at best turn it to revenue, however treacle; at worst, they did in fact become food a few times. Nobody would eat the dubia, Turkish, or hissing roaches, but superworms, buffalo worms, wax worms, and mealworms were fair game. Just don't eat the beetles: they taste like draino smells. And wax worms? Turn into fuzzy flying moths. That will. Get. Everywhere. Nonetheless those were the favorite - their high fat content makes them taste like clarified butter, but it takes a LOT of them to feed you. More than can ever be made in less than warehouse conditions.
And if the insects, dogs, or people couldn't use it, the garden could. Compost or burn it into ash for soil leavening; the cardboard was made useful too. I learned how to make soap from wood ash, but paper ash works too. Cardboard is also very insulating, and can be used to keep out drafts. Sometimes we would try to turn grains or fruits that had gone a bit south into alcohol, just for fun; moonshine is fun to make, but not legal to sell. Pears make much better homebrew cider than most apples in case you ever needed to know.
All this taken from living in poverty, in various places, due to various reasons. I don't miss the food box days, despite how fun it sounds.
People should dunk on food banks more for giving people expired or nearly expired food actually I'm done being nice abt that. You won't let homeless people dumpster dive behind a fucking McDonalds but you'll make someone show their ID so they can get 5 cans of spagettios that went bad in 1947 lmfao hell world
