i’ve been seeing some talk about how “this propaganda is so bad” and “they must think everyone’s too stupid to think” and stuff like that, and i just wanna say be careful not too internalize these thoughts so much.

yes, sometimes propaganda is easy to spot. there are things you see and immediately go “what the fuck, who’d believe that” and that’s GOOD. that means you’re noticing tactics, you’re questioning things, you’re practicing critical thinking.

but not all propaganda is so easy to spot. sometimes propaganda really is good, by which i mean skillfully done. convincing, even when you’ve practiced spotting propaganda. and that can be really dangerous!!

so, really what i’m saying is don’t get passive about propaganda. remember that, very often, it isn’t obvious. you need to do some digging, some thinking, and that thinking is WORTH IT. so worth it! you’re gonna find things you didn’t notice at first, and now you can point those things out. you can start dialogue about them.

keep pointing out the propaganda you do see. talk about it. be upset about it. recognize that you can be misled and that there’s no shame in correcting yourself. please keep thinking, analyzing, questioning, discussing, etc etc

remember that phrase “you are not immune to propaganda”? it will always, always ring true.

i want to make it known that you do not have to like a ship or character for any reason whatsoever. you are allowed to dislike a ship or character for any reason, no matter how silly. you are allowed to say "yeah i just could not care less about them" and move on with your life. i am shaking you by the shoulders. you not liking a character or interpretation or ship is not reflective of your understanding of the canon material or the characters themselves it just means you have a preference (a totally normal thing to do)

you disliking an aspect of a character's story, relationships, or the character themselves does not mean you overlooked the story or just need to reread it again. it means that you are a normal person with a normal way of going about things and are entirely undeserving of hate for it.

same also goes for the opposite. just because you like an interpretation or relationship or character that, in the canon material, doesn't make sense/will never be canon/would never feasibly work out/is bad in some way, does not mean you simply do not understand the characters or canon work. it just means you have preferences. it means you look at something and go "why not".

guys say it with me. there is no right or wrong way to enjoy a piece of media because at the end of the day, only the lord (toby fox himself) may cast the first stone.

as long as nobody is being hurt, it does not matter and it should not matter. your biggest priority in a fandom should always be to have fun

People often forget the fact that the main character/cast in the story doesn't have to believe in the right thing. They can be very wrong, they can die while believing in something very wrong. And it's not just the "tragic" very wrong, nor the "badass villain" very wrong, it is actually something disgusting and inhumane, that makes people feel terrible knowing that in some story, the main cast can have awful morals. In some stories, no character, not the main cast nor the villain, may have the right insight on something. And people will automatically assume that the story and the author are terrible, because everything is so bad in the story. Except, this makes people ignore said story itself. The right belief may actually be hidden, and only uncovered by seeing what these characters, main cast or villains, get in the end. You can't know that running wild on the rocky ground is a bad idea, until you fall, or hear it from someone else.

Reminder that having an “outrageous” amount of lgbt headcanons for a singular character, or having an lgbtqia+ headcanon for almost, if not every character in the cast of a show is OK. Its fine!

Is it hurting anyone? Nope. It’s okay to not have ‘token gay’ character headcanons, and to instead feel as if the entire cast isn’t straight or cis or allo and etc.

Lets stop enforcing the idea that being “Cishetalloperi” (theres probably more i’m missing) is the norm and is the “default”. Plenty of gay, enby, trans, a-spec, intersex, and just queer in general people exist. Its not “Unrealistic” to headcanon a cast of characters that way. And even if it was, its still not hurting anyone.

That also goes for headcanon-ing a single character with a bunch of labels, especially rare or “weird” labels. Its okay to be lgbtqia+. Its okay to think fictional characters are also lgbtqia+.

This post isn’t targeted, at all, just something Intend to address comments I see on posts where a character isn’t straight, cis, or allo.
