it cracks me up that there was a secret society of American journalists who, from 1965 to 2006, slipped the phrase "it was as if some occult hand..." into articles
this all started when one guy used the phrase in an article and his friends thought it was so hilariously out of place that they all started using it
it drove their editors crazy but they kept doing it
that was like. the whole thing. they called it the Order of the Occult Hand and all it did was put a random metaphor into as many news articles as possible
they picked a new phrase in the early 00s, which has not been revealed yet- to my knowledge

Back at it with my enchanted merthur shenanigans

I read way too many of Rhys Bowen's Her Royal Spyness crap and my only excuse is that I had my tonsils out and I was on drugs. These are bad, but in a cute way? Whomever edits her work should be tarred and feathered for letting so many ahistorical inaccuracies slip in, it's maddening. Lots of inclusion of things that did not exist during the 1930s. AT&T (it was Ma Bell, dearie), The Hollywoodland sign being just Hollywood, several named tube stops in London, the smell of gas was not added until the very late 1930s, not to mention entire neighborhoods noted did not exist. What a mess. And plot holes the size of Albert Hall. I kinda like even my light reading to teach me *something*. But I read more than a few and I cannot continue. So go ahead of you are incapable of anything serious, but I can't truly recommend these on any level.
