I have a question! When and why did you start shipping Clyde and Craig? You’ll the first person I’ve seen ship this so I’m curious!

omggg wait really??? That’s so surprising to me lol I mean I know cryde is a fairly small ship, but I can’t believe you haven’t seen it before !! I feel kinda honored LMAO like wow… introducing people to cryde… my sp destiny

But !! It’s honestly kind of a boring answer lol. Back in ye ole middle school days, South Park was the first “fandom” I ever discovered. I honestly cannot remember why or how lol, but I found… ffnet. And that led me to learning about fanfiction.

(okay I kinda uhhhh rambled for years so here’s a cut!!! ilu)

Of course, I searched for south park LMAO I mean it was like my favorite show of all time. I looked at some fics but didn’t read any, until for… literally no real reason, this one fic caught my eye. It was about Craig and Clyde, two characters we knew next to nothing about, and I was like… hmmm yeah this sounds like a good one!!!!

For a long long time I thought this fic was deleted?? But it’s NOT apparently !!! (It’s m-rated, if that’s not ur thing!!) but yeah!! It’s a very standard, early days cryde fic where Craig is an outsider and Clyde is the cool jock and they really reconnect at a party.

If you know anything about my version of cryde, you know that’s… absolutely not how I envision them at all lol. (I could make a whole other post about that.) but for some reason, I read that fic and was like “wow, I wanna know more about Craig and Clyde 🤔”

Andddd then I just kinda went on a deep sea dive of their characters, canon and fanon, and I just kept reading fics!!! Over time, both fanon cryde and my… version (?) of cryde evolved, and so did their characters in canon!! I remember the like… ten of us on here back when Slash episode aired, we were losing our shit over the fact that they were partners the entire time. We were FED lmao

And then!!!! I can’t even explain how fun it was when TSoT came out. Their partnership and Craig’s double cross was everythinggggg. It was everywhere. We were THRIVING lol. I don’t think anyone expected it and that made it so much better, and it cemented for a lot of us the idea that they’re best friends. We were given crumbs tbh but lemme tell you, we took them and baked a CAKE and it was a time.

Okay all of that is not really an answer to your question lol. The short of it: I read some fics!! I became interested in their characters and their friendship, and it just went from there. Having all those fun moments with our little side of the fandom was always a lot of fun too and it made me treasure the ship a little more I think.

I know cryde isn’t ready all that popular, though it’s gotten bigger over the years, I like that the fandom is kinda on agreement that at the very least, they’re pretty good friends. (Maybe even best friends!) it still gives some cute content even if it’s platonic.

Ok, so, i dont ship steo, i just cant see it, why do you ship it??? (genuine question, no h8)

Hi honey!!

Oh well, i have a bunch of reasons, actually, and about 90% of them come from how i see Stiles - i always saw him as a fairly complex character, with a bunch of dark-ish undertones to him that most of the time are made to be seen in this comedic light (like his paranoia, him stalkish ways, his colourful threats, his inability to trust people, and just about everything his anxiety issues bring about). After season 3b it got, well, worse; and in 5a he’s just a Mess with legs, tbh.

In my opinion what keeps him from completely loosing his shit completely is the fact that he has people around him that hold him somewhat together and inspire a form of conscience on Stiles, that, the way i see it, is sometimes... fake. Like he’s doing certain Good Guy things just because it is expected of him from the people around him - there’s a bunch of situations in which he would probably have no problem taking the easy, selfish, gray-darkish on the moral spectrum way out, you know? Its amazing, it’s flawed and its real, the fact that he tries so hard to be good and nice really has me captivated.

And then there’s Theo. I think Theo is one of the only characters (if not the only one) that sees this about Stiles - their whole confrontation in 5x10 kinda tells you just that. And i think that Theo relates to it and sees a similarity between the two of them that sorta draws him in, specially with the way Stiles is not as easy to manipulate as the rest of his friends, with the way he’s always a step ahead of the rest of his friends, suspecting everything because of his paranoid and extremely intelligent mind. see this through Theo’s eyes, i mean which sociopathic asshole doesn’t love a challenge? I think finding ways to break Stiles and making him surrender to that ‘’darkness’’ that Stiles has inside him was part of Theo’s plan, bc forget manipulation, the only way to get to Stiles was to make him see that he’s just as bad and make him relate to Theo, you know? (the whole speech about justified murder had those intentions behind it, i think)

I know that, since you dont ship it, you must never have read anything that i wrote for Steo, but there’s one or two little fics i wrote in which i play around with this concept of them being very much alike, and Theo’s mission to have Stiles give in to his darker tendencies. They are equals, in Theo’s perspective at least. It’s honestly one of my favourite things about the dynamics of Steo; how they had the potential to be basically the same person, but outside factors influenced them into opposite sides of the spectrum. 

Steo is a dark ship, dont get me wrong, it’s not mean to be lovey-dovey and interpreted as like ‘’relationship goals’’ or anything like that - but just because it’s dark and terrible, doesn’t mean it isn’t interesting and, in my books, awesome af. For everyone who believes that just because you dig something in fiction means you endorse it/support it/want it/celebrate it in real life, i just want to say that compartmentalisation is key.

All of this is just my small take on it, of course. I’m sure everyone sees it differently, in their own way. I could talk about steo probably all night, go into meta and headcanons, sum up a bunch of solid reasons, go at it til morning justifying it and everything. And in the end you could go ask another steo shipper like ‘’do you agree, is this the why?’’ and they’d just tell you ‘’idk what all that was, i ship bc they look hot together and nothing else’’ and to be totally honest i’d be like...... yep, that’s solid reason on itself as well lmao
