Coming into 2024, I had big plans for how I was going to get back on track and get back to posting once a week and yeah, obviously, that hasn’t happened.

But what I have been doing is looking at my Patreon and at my own projects and figuring out some things I need to do differently. Last April, I changed my nom de plume because I wanted a fresh start. Now it’s time to give this entire Patreon project a refresh.

Here’s what’s happened so far:

Deleted my old A.F. Linley website and gave up the domain; the cost for hosting has risen by $200/year and I wasn’t using it as much as I thought I would back in 2018. Also I kept getting spam emails through the contact page.

Took down my Smashwords account; the single title I had managed to self-publish, a short story collection called Creeps, Ghouls and Jewels, had some serious formatting issues that it was not going to be worth the time/money to correct. Plus, I’m not happy with the changes that have come since Smashwords merged with Draft2Digital. (I’m considering moving to Payhip for future self-pubbed titles but that’s a discussion for a different post.)

I’m starting the process of taking down my Redbubble shop and....Okay, actually, I might have done that already? I just went to grab a link to the site in case anyone wanted to order a Moonicorns t-shirt before I deactivated but uh, it looks like it might’ve deactivated itself? Anyway, merch isn’t the right direction for me at this time, but I’ve still got all the actual designs and I really do like the “Finishing Things is Hard” logo, so I’m definitely going to hang onto that and slap that onto some stuff at a different print-on-demand site in the future.

Here’s what’s happening next:

New posting schedule: Starting in April, patrons will receive one short non-fiction post every week (500-1k words) and a piece of fiction every month (2-2.5k words). Oddments posts will continue to be free to read, but these take a decent amount of research and will be sporadic, basically happening around patron-only posts.

Revised patron tier perks: Getting rid of physical rewards and adding more digital ones. More details to come.

So in this universe gray survives because (spoilers for the movie) at the end of the movie gray and deacon are digested alive by the pagan diety because they entered a cave underneath a church they were investigating and that cave ended up being its stomach

Right so in my au gray gets way to freaked out and never crawls into the narrow cave with deacon and when deacon enters it shuts and he watches his friend get brutally digested alive and he cannot do anything he’s forced to watch and hear the screams this traumatizes gray after watching his friend get digested by the cave leaving his soul venerable and the pagan diety enters his body kinda like possessing him in a weird way

So basically gray is still himself but can get possessed at random times and when he is possessed he gets craving for human flesh and might nom people but if gray has control which he usually does he is able to fight digesting his prey and instead usually is able to hack them up unless they are a horrible person

Anyway I’m gonna stop yapping and get to the transformation levels rq lol and show pics of the diety and gray possessed XD

1. Yellow eyes and sharp teeth (he still has some control and can still make decisions)

2. Horns and claws along with his sharp teeth (looses most of his humanity at this stage but still has a little bit)

3. Fur spouts and he has elongated limbs along with all the other side effects (this is when the beast takes full control it still looks like gray but really it’s just the deity at that point)

Top 5 Hobbies for a Kawaii Lifestyle

Ciao lovelies! Today here’s 5 “Kawaii Lifestyle” Hobbies!

Now before I begin, I want to say that these hobbies are NOT the only hobbies that can be included in a “Kawaii Lifestyle”! You could do anything for hobbies and still lead a kawaii life. These are just some hobbies that may be considered “Kawaii” traditionally/stereotypically.

So now, let’s get into this super cute hobby list!

#1- Toy Collecting! Many Kawaii Lifestylers that I know of, myself included, collect toys! Some collect vintage toys, some collect modern and some collect both! Toy collecting can be very fun for many reasons. For one, if you have a more childish nature/if you’re an age regressor, you can play with the toys! For two, your toy collection can make great kawaii décor! Toys come in all shapes and colors and sizes, so you can carefully select what you want to display! Some Kawaii toys to collect that I recommend: Num-Noms!

As well as: Calico Critters (also known as Sylvanian Families), Shopkins Lil Secrets (Which are a lot like old school Polly Pockets), Squishies, Molang figures, Monster High Minis….ect! 

And going right along with toy collecting is…

#2- Toy Photography / Doll Photography! Another super fun and “kawaii” hobby is toy photography! Toys and dolls can be easier photo subjects (sometimes) than humans in my opinion because you can pose them exactly how you imagine, and you can take many shots while they hold the same pose! There are many highly poseable kawaii dolls like Monster High, Ever After High, Made-To-Move Barbie, and even BJD!

#3- Crafting/DIY! A big part of Kawaii subculture which isn’t really talked about enough in my opinion is the amount of crafty kawaii lifestylers! I’ve seen so many crafty kawaii lifestylers who make their own clothes, jewelry, accessories, décor… but yet I don’t see much discussion about it, and it can be hard to find good craft tutorials online for that specific niche! But crafty-ness is a big part of kawaii culture! I’ve even recently discovered a good place to get some kawaii stickers and beads for cute resin and jewelry projects, Blippo.com ! Blippo has many very kawaii items for pretty cheaply, just the other night I ordered a BUNCH of stuff for under $12 and free shipping, as well as a free mystery welcome gift! (my full review of Blippo is coming soonish, my orders are still in post). Another great place to find kawaii craft supplies is Aliexpress using search terms like “Kawaii Cabochon” and others like that. Just remember that Aliexpress is similar to Amazon/Ebay and you should always check the reviews before buying anything! (Note- this post was not sponsored by either of these sites, this is just my own opinion).

#4- Baking! Baking can be so much fun, and you don’t even need to make things from scratch to have a good time! Want to know a secret? Some of the best cakes I’ve ever made were with a modified box mix! One of my best tips is: “To make a boxed cake mix really amazing, follow the directions on the box EXCEPT: add 1 more egg than what it calls for, instead of using oil use melted butter (and double the amount), instead of water use milk!” This tip I found on Pinterest, and I’ve used it several times to make some of the best cakes and cupcakes I’ve ever made! ….So I bet you’re wondering how this hobby is particularly “kawaii”? Well, the decorating of course! Decorating cakes, cupcakes, cookies and more is one of the best parts of baking! You can make the baked good as kawaii as you want!

#5- Journaling! I know I mentioned this briefly in Wednesday’s post, but let’s talk quickly about how to make this kawaii. Again, you can use sites like Blippo.com to find cute stickers, washi tape, pens and pencils! You can also doodle in your journal and draw cute things like flowers, animals, and chibis! You can also press flowers in a journal for extra cute-ness.

omg i am now Here. tbh i've been a part of the community for YEARS as a lurker, i've known about vore since 2019 LMAO- i used to lurk on DA and here for a loooong while. i feel like a little tiny veteran (to an extent.. ik there's people who have been here for way longer than me)

now that i have friends that like vore too, their input definitely helped me gained the confidence to actually interact with others and even post some of the stuff i've created :3 i've had this acc for a bit and used it especially early on when i was (admittedly) very cringe since i had nobody to ramble to, so if anyone seeing this ever goes back later than 2022.. whatever you find is your own fault LOL

i'm happy that i've already met a few ppl from posting this kinda stuff, even if we don't talk too much! everyone here has always been so cool and i feel like tumblr is the best place for soft, nonsexual stuff like this :3 it's our little niche!!

Baby Boomer Classics: Folk Sixties 1985 Folk

Alright, folks, it looks like we have a pretty bad one here today with this small collection of folk fare from the 60s. Basically, outside of one song, which I'll get to a little later, this LP from the otherwise largely good and broadly eclectic Baby Boomer Classics series is definitely not worth your time. And I'm certainly no hater of folk music from this era in general—although I could live without hearing "This Land Is Your Land" or "Little Boxes" ever again—but there is one predominant strain of 60s folk that I happen to absolutely loathe. And it's that stuff that was so freaking over-the-top hippy-dippy-happy that you'd think the bands that were performing it were countercultural bizarro versions of The Stepford Wives or something, but for music. Their dispositions were simply too sunny, their smiling was too excessive, and at the end of the day, you get the feeling that the people that were making this stuff had actually been indoctrinated into some kind of creepy new age cult 😵.

But this stuff really played, man. For example, a totally excruciating song on here that exemplifies this mind-numbing style of 60s folk is "Don't Let the Rain Come Down (Crooked Little Man)," by a group whose name alone is too on the nose for you to believe that they actually existed: The Serendipity Singers 😩. Now, it's one thing for this awful song to exist in some little, whimsical, Bohemian niche as a piece of forgotten ephemera, but this thing was actually a top-ten hit in the US, and it also landed a Grammy nom too! And listening to it is so uncomfortable that it makes me want to tear my hair out!!!

But now, on to the only tune on this comp that I thoroughly enjoyed listening to: "There but for Fortune," by the legendary Joan Baez. With a lovely vibrato appended to the end of most lines, and a pretty acoustic guitar melody to match, this intimate and heartfelt song sends a basic and universal message that could always use more hearing, especially in turbulent times such as these; and it's to have empathy and not ridicule or judge others, because 'there but for fortune,' it could very well be you who was born into a circumstance that'd leave you currently sitting in a prison cell, homeless, suffering from addiction, or having your home bombed. This song was originally written in 1963 by another folk legend, Phil Ochs, but Baez' version from '64 proved the most popular, reaching #50 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and earning itself a Grammy nom for Best Folk Recording. And clearly, it's still very much relevant to this day.

But other than that one song, this album unfortunately just sucks. Stuff is either insufferable like that Srendipity Singers tune, overplayed, or just comparably lackluster when put up against 60s folk juggernauts like Joan Baez herself. I've been slowly sifting through this Baby Boomer Classics series over the past month and change with few criticisms to levy, but this is by far the worst thing I've heard from it so far. And even though I don't write much about folk music from this golden era of revivalism in particular, a comp like Warner's Storytellers: Singers & Songwriters from 1987, which has the likes of Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, Arlo Guthrie, John Prine, Phil Ochs, and others on it, serves much better than this record that pulls from a similar time period.

thanks for the @, this man is a legend. I'd like to get into a little more explaining, though I'm by no means a soil ecologist and am doing cursory research. First of all the change in A profile is INSANE. That's the topsoil, where most of the organic decomposed stuff is. Also where most nutrients are, and so you want a good layer for farming since your crops grow better. Soil formation is extremely slow, so the sheer amount gained is impressive, especially when taken to account how much soil is usually eroded by conventional farming practice. Pretty bad given you need soil to grow stuff in.

Thing is, lots of farming practices disturb soil hella bad, like the tilling that is mentioned Dave avoided. Tilling very deliberately stirs up/loosens the soil such as through plows, which can destroy weeds and make it easier to plant. But tilling also causes problems like disturbing helpful organisms in the soil, like earth worms and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (...well amf oscillate in usefulness but I like them so dangit they get a mention!). And it makes erosion far easier because the soil is less compact and wind and rain can move it better. That soil causes problems both by no longer being on the farm, and often ending up in places its not supposed to be like rivers or blowing across the country like in the infamous Dust Bowl. Who knew breathing in dirt constantly is bad for literally everyone!

Fertilizer. Oh man. So, fertilizer causes a couple of problems. It also solved a lot of them in full transparency! There were massive concerns about how to feed the growing population, and fertilizer was a huge part in that. There are substantial consequences though. 1, you got to get those nutrients from somewhere, such as mining phosphorous and potassium, or mixing air nitrogen with hydrogen from natural gas. I don't have time to get into the ramifications of mining on the environment, but trust there's lots of them. 2. Lots of those fertilizers are washed away into rivers, lakes, etc which then inject excess nutrients that cause problems that kickstarts a process leading to fish and aquatic life dying due to lack of oxygen (eutrophication). So Dave cutting down on fertilizer usage helps the environment, but not necessarily his crop yield. Which he offset using cover crops (grown between the main crops, prevent bare ground (erosion) and can make it harder for weeds to grow). Peas are a legume, which have the ability to intake nitrogen from the air and store it, which adds nitrogen to the soil. I see evidence for peas as good for getting that nitrogen need (here). That source also suggests radishes work, though another source contradicts that. Anyway crop cover is hella important, and it's driving me a little crazy that my current job doesn't utilize it but well that's a confounding variable when trying to take data so we all make sacrifices in the name of science. Alas.

Multiple species have different nutrient requirements, and so by using a mixture of crops they can compete less. Niche partitioning lets gooo. It's like how I won't touch my roommate's blueberries, but since he's full on berries he only nibbles at my spaghetti whereas a second Nom in the house would mean WAR. Less bloodshed since we need different nutrient imput. More complete use of the nutrients in the soil mean they need less fertilizer imputs, plus the nutrients cover crops like the nitrogen fixing peas are adding to the soil. Dave used very little fertilizer without sacrificing yield much, which is a sign of very sustainable farming.

Fungicides and insecticides cause so so so many problems. Like you're introducing poison into the equation, and they don't ever affect only the pest a farmer is trying to get rid off. They tend to have health consequences for humans and ecosystems. The famous case of course being DDT, an insecticide that accumulated in fat and would travel up the foodchain when a contaminated animal was eaten, increasing in concentration and doing things like killing off eagles and songbirds. Also potentially doing things like leading to the endangerment of honey bees, generally being carcinagens, etc etc. Dave switching to using no fungicides and insecticides doubtlessly was very difficult, given pest control is a nightmare and jeopardizes yield. There are other methods of pest control however: things like using predators to the pest, having a variety of crops (see: monocultures are horrible), mechanical control, etc.

I know absolutely nothing about neonicotinoids and seed treatment, and so won't comment to avoid potential misinformation. Most of this has been my background knowledge supplemented with cursory research to confirm and offer jumping off points for further research if anyone cares to.

His cash crop yields have been increasing by an average of 5% annually for the past 5-6 years, with far less fertilizer and no fungicides, insecticides or seed treatment

^^highlighting because it's absolutely INSANE. Proof that more environmentally friendly approaches are beneficial. Wish this discussed more the economics of this, since if he's getting a 5% increase in yield but it takes 10% more money input it may still be infeasible for most people. As thin of a margin as many farmers operate on, more intensive and expensive methods may not always be possible, or too risky. I'm not here to demonize anyone who isn't employing these environmentally conscious agricultural practices, of course, since as it often is the real enemy is capitalism. I'm of the firm belief that anything that benefits the environment benefits humans in the long run, but as is the current system incentivizes profit now consequences later. Hard to change the machine when you're just trying not to get crushed. Which makes Dave's commitment all the more impressive despite the rigidity trap of the agricultural system being self propagating as it asks greater and greater inputs to maintain the human population.

It's honest work, and it means so, so much that he did it.

Getting a well known studio to distribute it in the us ofc helps in terms of getting us prizes

At the same time it wasn’t a strong contender, didn’t have the surprise effect the brutalist had after venice. I think what helped it the most was … simply people liking it and talking about it, and Paul himself who i think is very loved, if you think about the fact that he literally starred in 6 movies (+ 4 to come out) and 2 series… 1 emmy nom and 1 oscar nom.. what a career

anon you keep accidentally sending two asks and thats okay its just funny. um i know SOME of what i was going to say. like randy moving house but it's next door to howard could be interpreted as "the cunninghams were going to move for real and then the magic reworked reality so they stayed in norrisville" is the one we mostly think of. obviously the fact that first ninja and plop plop are like randy and howard but From The Past is just a cartoon thing but i think it's fair if they're ultimately related in at least some way because both howard and randy were never new to norrisville, see when howie met randy. the number nine alliterates with ninja that's the only reason there are nine of them but i do also think that's a reasonable number of bloodlines to switch between so the ninja has time to mindwipe, grow up, have a kid, and that kid turn fourteen before the mask circles back into their family. the magic can then also adjust for things like the ninja being gay or not wanting kids by reworking the universe so oops your bloodlines continuing anyway! so like maybe a lot of the families had a break somewhere where the future ninja baby was raised in a different household but as long as they stay in norrisville the tradition is upheld. it doesn't seem to go well if you let someone who sucks get the mask (mac antfee) and having magical blood dictate the order of succession to someone the nomicon KNOWS is trustworthy could generally avert that. and uhhh the idea was also that different families could hold different positions in different generations, so howard and randy being ninja and trusted sidekick echoes what happened in 1213, but its not like mort weinerman was once the ninjas sidekick. wjich is where theresa comes in because my idea was that she could fill the niche of nom translator, where like. obviously randy is meant to interpret the lessons himself its a kids cartoon. but he is fourteen and stupid so he rarely does this. and having someone else focus on the studying and the decoding leaves him more time to fight rather than interpreting and he gets to both keep the town safe and also not flunk out of school. maybe this role isn't needed in every generation but randy is dumb <3. so the original premise of the fic being "theresa has to tutor randy in math so he passes algebra 2" then mirrors what would happen later, "theresa has to mentor randy in understanding his magic book and unlocking his greatest powers". and maybe julian's family have a history of being tempted by corruption but it never worked-worked till now idk. sorry this is a mile long i'm realising

The strength this woman exhudes. her nudity, and position giving a sense of vulnerability. Her laying on her own wing for comfort gives a sense of being habituated with solitude. Then, there are the flowers and life in contrast to her fleshy monster colours. She is natural, yet stands out in nature. Where does she come from? Is she okay? The subtle scales. The webbed tail, and dorsal fins showing an adaptive being alongside it's wings, claws, and talons. The fact her hair is closer in colour to the nature around her is as if the most anthropormorphizing aspect of her is her hair, and not her torso. The freaking relationship between her frailer arms and her strong claws. I love this girl. But she doesn't exist. But then I have trans-existential leanings so, I don't know. I hope she has sharky teeth! NOM!

Is she sapient? At what point is one meeting a monster girl rather than studying one? If she's sapient, then what language does she speak? How does her age come into play? How far does definition go for characterization?

What is a monster girl?

I think I was first introduced to the concept of 'Monster Girl' because of monster girl quest. I remember losing on purpose, and eventually moved away from it as it became clear it's intended audience became more niche. When I think about how it was presented in the monster girl encyclopedia it was like the fantasy to me was that sexuality became something uncontrollable, like there was a partner out there that was just going to be obssessed with their partner no matter how bad they are because they need sex, or die. Even then, the way the monsters were set up, some clearly were set up with certain features for different interests. Man, there's so much sexual assault in those areas. I'm glad I moved away from that. Now it's just about them, how they live as beings. It reminds me of how tentacle hentai was, I think, to me, almost always sexual assault. That led me again to add consent to these situations. The absence of monster boys in my experience with MGQ and MGE ironically showed how being masculine was basically being seen as a sexual object, or a tool. The roles reversed showed a way that women could feel. Surrounded by monsters that think they need sex, demand sex, take sex, using their interests, and context, to rationalize their entitlement.

So we have fiction giving space to sexual assault. I removed it. Adding (Enthusiastic) consent, and Equalising monster girls with monster boys, (And removing the shotacon aspect) made it more palatable to me. How does one woo a hellhound, a woman like the one in this piece? Respect them? Understand them? Extending empathy, affection, friendship based on interests, and context. How would cross-species interactions work?

One constant was how most were just anthropomorphic. So how would consent work between vastly different species? In truth these questions are rhetorical for myself. In the sense that I don't really care about a coherent answer because it's fantasy. But that doesn't mean no fantastical questions should be answered coherently.

The child in me wants to give her a big old steak, or a big sandwich...I want her to protect me, and I want to protect her. We could fly as much as swim! A primordial force. I'd hope she liked me...Maybe even romantically...I'd be honest about my feelings, and hope we can grow as people together.

Another aspect of monster girls is how their qualities are transferred through metaphor to personality like we can sometimes see in furry fandoms through the choice of animal in a fursona. However, I realize some may just be characters. Lol. Projection!

Anyways, fursonas and mobsonas are like philosophical homunculi, rather than represent the sensitivity of senses, they represent our sensitivity to ideas. A good example is shown in "Homunculus", however: it is more humanist in it's treatment of trauma, where the protagonist just sees the person WITHOUT a homunculi when the trauma is dealt with.
