Curry, USA reach gold medal game
Tumblr media
They knew it would not be easy, but the USA men's basketball team is one win away from gold. Team USA used an epic fourth-quarter comeback to defeat Nikola Jokic and Serbia 95-91 in the semifinals. Stephen Curry reminded the world why he is regarded as the greatest shooter to ever live by scoring 36 points on 9-14 shooting from beyond the arc. Curry had struggled up to this point during the Olympics, but when his team needed him the most, he stepped up with the biggest performance from any member of the roster this Summer. "It was only a matter of time before he had one of these games. We can see it every day; he puts in too much work not to have a game like this, and we wouldn't want it any other way. It was the perfect time for Chef to come out and do what he did," said LeBron James.

Without his contributions, Serbia would have blown them out. https://twitter.com/usabasketball/status/1821717484178665794 "I just kinda got lost in the moment of understanding how big this stage is and what is at stake for this team. That is the most fun I have had in a very long time. To dig deep like we did with this group and get a win is special. I am just kind of basking in that right now, and obviously, we know we got another tough challenge in France on their home court," said Curry. The megastars for Team USA all showed up late in the game. Joel Embiid, Kevin Durant, and James all pitched in with timely buckets to outlast Serbia's incredible effort. James posted a triple-double, and Embiid finished with 19 points. Head coach Steve Kerr tightened up his rotation as only six members of the team played more than 13 minutes. It took a heightened sense of urgency and focus for the Americans to overcome the fantastic play of Jokic (17 points, 11 assists), Bogdan Bogdanovic (20 points), and Aleksa Avramovic (15 points). "That was one of the best games I have ever been a part of, for the simple fact that we dug deep, being down 15 that late in the game," said Durant. "We talked about how each game somebody is going to have to step up, it might be your night, and (Curry) came and had the best night out of anybody the whole tournament. It was so incredible to watch him knock down shots and keep us afloat. LeBron played extremely hard the whole game, and Joel was insane tonight." https://twitter.com/usabasketball/status/1821724327181431154 France presents a new challenge in the title game, but it is hard to imagine anyone stopping this USA team after coming off such a gritty and emotional victory. Victor Wembanyama is the player to watch out for, standing 7'4" with a long frame and possessing a unique athletic ability. Still, the reigning NBA Rookie of the Year is only 20 years old and might not have the experience to take down a juggernaut like Team USA in the same way that a three-time MVP like Jokic was almost able to. "I know this is probably my one and only time to enjoy this stage, and having seen Team USA play for years, I know what it means to stand on that podium and get a gold medal," said Curry. "I just praise God that I was able to stay confident. I haven't had it going this whole tournament, but that doesn't mean anything. You just gotta stay ready for your moment." Read the full article

This week on the Daly Dose, the NBA has announced that Philadelphia 76ers big man Joel Embiid was voted the Most Valuable Player this year by a landslide. This seems to be just another thing the NBA is getting wrong. Then, we are joined by some friends of the Dose to recap the 2023 NFL Draft! We saw a number of surprises and a record number of trades take place this year, but who were the true winners and losers from this draft? We begin by looking at some of the top stories from the offseason. The Baltimore Ravens signed QB Lamar Jackson to a record contract, the New York Jets made that monster deal for Aaron Rodgers, and the Washington Commanders finally got rid of owner Daniel Snyder! Then, we discuss which teams were able to find true value in the NFL Draft, which player’s father made the most of an opportunity, and why every single team was somehow able to draft EXACTLY who they were hoping to get. We also play a very challenging game of NFL QB trivia with our panel, and then we turn our attention to some of the biggest losers in the draft! Which teams may have overreached? Which quarterbacks did not get any help from their franchises? And which of the silly draft cliches make the least sense? We answer all of these questions and much more this week on the Dose!

Denver is just better than the Lakers
Tumblr media
LOS ANGELES - For the Los Angeles Lakers, playing the world champion Denver Nuggets must feel like a recurring bad dream. They have now lost seven consecutive postseason games to Denver, and every time they play, you can squint and imagine you are watching a replay of the previous game. This matchup has run its course. The Nuggets are simply a better team than the Lakers. They have the best player in the series, Nikola Jokic, and a better head coach. On both ends of the floor, they do everything better as a team than the Lakers. Los Angeles has continuously hit Denver with its best shot, but it is not enough every time.  Second half starts now ? pic.twitter.com/EqCKsLk5B0— Los Angeles Lakers (@Lakers) April 26, 2024 "They do not have a weakness offensively, especially their starting lineup. They have been one of the best-starting fives in our league over the last couple of years," said LeBron James. "It is definitely one of the better teams I have played against in my career." This is not the same team the Lakers beat in 2020 on their way to the championship. That team did not have Aaron Gordan or Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. Michael Porter Jr. was a rookie coming off the bench, and Nikola Jokic had yet to evolve into the most unstoppable player in the NBA. Los Angeles has led at the half in all three games during this series, and even when trailing, it always feels like Denver is in the driver's seat. Once the Lakers go up by double digits, it feels like the Nuggets have them right where they want them. "I think they are a little more locked in than we are when we come out of the half, and we have seen Denver throughout the year. They take advantage of every opportunity," said Gabe Vincent. The Lakers started game 3 on an 8-0 run, and Anthony Daivs scored 10 points in the first four minutes, but as the game went on, Los Angeles steadily declined in every category while Denver ascended to a near-perfect level of play. First 8 belong to us ?? pic.twitter.com/D2wvQd5MmX— Los Angeles Lakers (@Lakers) April 26, 2024 Davis has been great in this series, scoring at least 32 points and grabbing 11 rebounds in every game. James is holding up his end, with at least 26 points and eight assists in all three contests. Neither of the Lakers stars has had an off night, and they still can not buy a win. In game 1, James tried to attack early and be a playmaker late. He took the opposite approach in game 2, setting up his teammates first and scoring 12 points in the fourth quarter. In game 3, he took what the defense gave him. None of these strategies resulted in a victory. "I think Dever is just beating us, to be honest. You can talk about adjustments, you can talk about this and that, but at the end of the day, we got to put our best foot forward and win basketball games. You can talk about everything else, but at the end of the day, you gotta man up and go win," said Austin Reaves. Jamal heatin' up ? 20 PTS / 3 REB / 6 AST pic.twitter.com/WbLiPjM8h1— Denver Nuggets (@nuggets) April 26, 2024 The most frustrating part for Los Angeles is that they have never been blown out during any of the seven playoff losses and are only losing by an average of six points per game. It feels like they are so close, but in reality, they are so far away from being able to beat this team in a seven-game series. "Our focus right now is to try to get one. Try to get a game and then go from there," said Davis. Denver is the best team in the NBA for a reason. The Lakers will look to avoid being swept for a second straight season on Saturday, but the Nuggets are too good for the Lakers to come back and make this a series.
