i will admit. when i was watching season 2 of ouat. i shipped hook and belle. not in a serious way but not in a crackship way either. just in a "it would be SO fucking funny if hook stole both rumpelstiltskin's wife AND new gf" way. up until he shot her i was like. yeah i can see this developing into romantic chemistry. a funky little enemies to lovers if you will. but you know what, not JUST for the joke also because it would be thematic. rumpelstiltskin is narratively punished for being a coward, and then is narratively punished AGAIN for being a huge manipulative dickhead, BY THE SAME MAN BOTH TIMES. this makes sense in my head i swear

ranger’s apprentice / protector of the small crossover thoughts

idk who is in what world and when in the timelines these are but:

halt obviously adores kel immediately. she's reserved, has the poker face of a true ranger, has given her whole life to a realm she's an outsider in and which doesn't take her seriously at first

also she's quietly funny and very lethal

horace and kel get on like a house on fire. horace teaches her more sword tricks and kel tries to teach him the glaive, but he prefers the sword

will is annoyed with both of them for being so tall

alyss reminds kel of her parents, and she takes to the glaive immediately. they spar in the mornings and alyss coaches her through making diplomatic moves as a lady knight commander

kel and will respect each other, but will is shocked at how talented and accomplished kel was at 15 when he just started ranger training. kel half wishes she had the relationship between lord wyldon as will does with halt, but then pushes that off as silly. she had lord raoul and that's more than enough.

neal and gilan swordfight and commiserate abt the expectations placed on noble kids; neal from the perspective of having left a mage's place to try for knighthood, and gilan from the perpective of having left a knighthood to try for an oakleaf (which seems like magic to most people)

horace doesn't get neal, but halt's dry wit match with neal's sarcasm immediately and they both delight in torturing horace

lalassa is afraid of jenny at first (that ladle is heavy!) but then helps her learn new self-defense moves and becomes a regular at jenny's tavern

tug and peachblossom bond over their loyalty to their riders. peachblossom is like the halt to tug’s will

lady pauline and lady ilane have tea almost every day. (everyone is scared of what they're planning.)

A Swen’s Guide to the Into the Story-Verse Alternate Realities

Ladies and gentlemen, it’s the Christmas Eve Eve and that means it’s time for the last entry of our guide where we explore the 6 alternative realities presented in the latest addition to the Swan-Mills Saga by the ever so marvellous @swanqueeneverafter​

This time we’re gonna explore...

!!!SPOILER ALERT!!!

Code name: Zeta Reality

First appearance: chapter 40

Set: our world the duration of Pilot (s01e01) but as altered by Emma’s journey to the past in the Once & Future Queen

Fixed by: a true love’s kiss between Emma and Regina in chapter 47

Unfinished business: not finishing what they started way back when in chapter 1 of the Story of Us

Zeta Reality presents us with a Groundhog Day AU we (read: I) never knew I needed. And it actually might be my personal favourite alternate reality.

The storyline follows Regina, newly with all her memories, trapped in a Groundhog Day kind of situation where she has to relive the day she met Emma for the first time, only this time it’s more heartbreaking for her because the Emma arriving with Henry from Boston every evening is actually her time travelling wife who disappears after sharing a true love’s kiss with Regina.

Emma and Regina aren’t the only couple we’re all rooting for (pun intended) as Root and Shaw finally get together in this reality too.

So let’s look at Regina’s attempts at breaking the cycle.

Attempt No. 1

As with every endlessly repeating cycle, the first one or two repeats the protagonist doesn’t usually immediately assume that they’re stuck in a loop. The same naturally happens to Regina too, so the first repeat can be hardly even counted as an attempt at breaking the cycle.

Attempt No. 2

Regina goes to Sister Astrid/Nova/Root to ask for help, as she understands that Root has been helping her and Emma through the realities. Root also tells her that she has just the one day that keeps repeating itself to make Emma fall in love with her.

And so Regina and Root don’t waste any time and go to Boston, where Emma tries to steal a dress in a store and gets caught by Walsh. Fortunately, Regina shows up just in time to save the day, however, she lets herself slip when Emma asks her whether she’s married. Emma walks away and Regina, sad, returns home.

Attempt No. 3

Determined to redo her last attempt at wooing Emma, Regina (with Root) once again travels to Boston. 

This time, Regina preventively knocks Walsh out and tries the “Indecent Proposal” approach, but when that does not work on Emma at all, she eventually opts for telling Emma how she sees her and that she reminds her of her best friend.

Attempt No. 4

Any further development in their romance is, however, prevented by Walsh who called for backup in the form of the police. Seeing Emma and Regina get arrested, Root and Shaw try to break them free - unsuccessfully.

This time, Regina approaches the issue at hand like the nerd she is - by gathering information. After all, it’s not an easy task to make someone fall in love with you in a day, even if the person IS your true love.

So, Regina asks Ingrid how to approach Emma in this phase of her life - her walls as high as they can be. Then she tells Rumple where he can find Neal AND Belle (kinda sweet of her).

The last person Regina asks for intel is Emma herself - only the “future” version of her, who shares a TLK with Regina every evening. “Future” Emma not only gives Regina advice but also takes her to the “past” Emma’s apartment where they... make most of the time they’ve got before Henry arrives. Then the whole family travels back to Storybrooke.

 Attempt No. 5

Regina’s happy bubble about finally knowing how to approach Emma is burst by Rumple who warns her she’s running out of time and attempts.

In her last attempt, Regina changes the tactic and lets Emma come to her instead (well, as much as that counts when Regina needs to go to Boston ;)), and so Emma saves her from getting run over by a car, then being the knight in the shining armour even takes Regina to a doctor.

Regina then offers to make Emma believe in magic, and though sceptical, Emma agrees. Their first stop is a planetarium, where Emma starts having flashbacks of her other selves’ memories also finds the magic compass in her pocket, but decides it doesn’t mean anything.

Emma in turn takes Regina to a karaoke bar, where Regina’s singing triggers another wave of flashbacks leading to a fiery make-out session which is, however, broken by Emma running away, scared of what might be - the SPARKS, these two could start a fire everywhere BUT Emma’s walls are still much too high for Regina to take them down in just a couple of hours. So, Regina leaves, heartbroken but knowing she couldn’t do much more.

Unexpectedly, to say the least, Emma comes home to Regina, having remembered everything thanks to a copy of the Storybook her future self left in her apartment, and the two of them fix the last reality in the most perfect way possible - by making love by the fireplace in Regina’s study.

The golden light was starting to fade, a shadow starting at the corner of the bed by its occupants' feet. Peter wanted to grab it, to pin it in place.

Gary Cooper in The Fountainhead (King Vidor, 1949) Cast: Gary Cooper, Patricia Neal, Raymond Massey, Robert Douglas, Kent Smith, Henry Hull, Ray Collins. Screenplay: Ayn Rand, based on her novel. Cinematography: Robert Burks. Art direction: Edward Carrere. Music: Max Steiner. Ayn Rand, proponent of a "philosophy" beloved of 20-year-old frat-boy business majors, is still very much with us, as the would-be Randian Übermensch who recently inhabited the White House too well demonstrates. So it's probably worth brushing up on the ideas that seem to captivate perpetual adolescents and sociopaths. Fortunately, you don't have to slog through her doorstop novels to get the gist: All you have to do is watch The Fountainhead, for which she wrote the screenplay. Its sociopath hero, Howard Roark, would be intolerable if he weren't played by Gary Cooper, taking on a role that is a curious inversion of the "common man" he played for Frank Capra in Mr. Deeds Goes to Town (1936) or the pawn of the Establishment in Meet John Doe (1941). Cooper's occasional eye twinkles or wry smiles help keep us from believing that he's really the kind of arrogant shit who says things like "I don't give or ask for help" or "The world is perishing from an orgy of self-sacrificing." As Dominique Francon, Patricia Neal does a lot of seething and surging about; it's not a good performance by a long shot, but it's watchable. But Raymond Massey manages to give an almost good performance, even when forced to deliver lines like: "What I want to find in our marriage will remain my own concern. I exact no promises and impose no obligations. Incidentally, since it is of no importance to you, I love you." Was ever woman in this humor wooed? The real saving grace of The Fountainhead, however, is its director, King Vidor, whose career began and flourished in the silent era, with classics like The Big Parade (1925) and The Crowd (1928), which honed his visual sense before he had to work with dialogue. If The Fountainhead had been a silent movie, not cluttered with Rand's dialogue and sermonizing, it might have been a classic itself, especially since it had a first-rate cinematographer in Robert Burks and a clever set designer in Edward Carrere. Max Steiner's overbearing score also helps distract us from the clanking and clattering of Rand's screenplay. The Fountainhead, in short, is a hoot, but a perversely fascinating one.
