hi! i’m coming from your nccc post and was wondering if you could tell me a little more about what life was like day to day? did you have any say in which spikes you would go to, or were they all assigned? what was the transition out of americorps like and did they have resources for life afterwards? thanks so much!!
A Day in The Life (On Spike):
You get up and do PT as a team. PT is a lot more relaxed on spike than it is in training, and it might be done before or after the day's work. If you're on a fire or disaster team it might be up to 5 days per week, though most teams and projects only require PT 3 days per week for 45-60 minutes each time. If you're a non-disaster team that is on a disaster project where you're working really wild hours in a really physical environment, you might not need to do PT at all.
You then have some time to get yourself showered or ready for the day, eat breakfast, etc...
You go to work. On most spikes service is a lot like a job. Generally it is M-F, 8-5 with a lunch break. You get to work via the 15-passenger van. You do whatever your project sponsor has agreed that your team will do for their project. This can literally be anything- building houses, clearing trails, serving meals, painting walls, interior demolition, mucking and gutting flooded homes, cutting fire line for controlled burns, teaching at a boys and girls club, etc...
You come home. Generally whoever is assigned to make dinner that night gets started making it. Everyone else either relaxes or does their assigned chores (cleaning spike housing, cleaning the van, food management, recruiting duties, planning independent service, project documentation, etc...). The TL may have one or two CMs for individual meetings.
You eat dinner as a team.
If it's a team meeting night, you also have a team meeting. Team meetings are usually once per week and about 1-2 hours in length. My team couldn't stand this so we broke up the required elements of the team meeting over the course of the week and just did them during dinner time.
And you repeat.
You do not have any say in what spikes you go on. They are assigned by the Unit Leader so even your TL has no idea until they're told toward the end of the previous spike.
The transition out of AmeriCorps is called "LAA" or Life After AmeriCorps. Prep starts about halfway through the service term, when you have LAA Day. LAA Day is similar to a job fair, plus classes on how to do adulting things like apply for jobs, write resumes, apply for housing, etc... LAA continues until you graduate, but doesn't really extend further than that.

So about Americorps-
How possible is getting hrt in Americorps? Is it covered in the health benefits or???? (Asking bc the health benefits website part is just- Not working??? Idk what to do with that)
I don’t have easy access to HRT where I live, meaning I’m not on it, so unfortunately I don’t have any direct experience with this. However, the health insurance they do provide only covers you while you’re working for them, and it’s very rudimentary. Like it only covers things that happen to you while on the job; I had gotten a spider bite and if I didn’t have my own insurance it would have covered the antibiotics.
Long story short, I don’t believe it would cover HRT, mostly because I think it would fall under “prior to AmeriCorps”.

Keep smiling
Paring: idol!minji x idol!reader
warning: argument
Word: 920
here's the part 2 [coming soon]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"AHHHH Y/N! Why did you do thatT^T" Hanni shout after you scared her. You keep laughing until Minji come inside the room.
"Yah han, y/n let's eat" Minji said while closing the door.
You and your members are already done eating, your supposed to leave but you saw Minji cleaning the table and you look at the clock it's already 9pm.
"Let me help you" she was surprised to your voice and she looks at you.
"I can handle it" she said while she looks at the time and everyone supposed to sleep around 9pm. You didn't listen to her you just clean the table and help her clean the plates.
Suddenly someone knocks on the door, you are curious because who would knock at your dorm when it's past 9. You and Minji stare at each other.
"Stay here I'll check it" you walk towards the door but Minji stop you by holding your wrist.
"Be careful" she's worried at you while watching you towards the door. Before you open the door the person behind it said "Pizza delivery" you stand like a wall in the middle of the room while Minji is laughing so hard.
You opened the door "THATS MINEEE EHEHE SORRY T^T" Hyerin smiled at you. "wow… really it's past 9 Hyerin" Minji said while walking towards you. "Hyerin clean everything after you guys eat" You said heading to your room, all the members looks at you with confusion "you're not going to eat?" Danielle asked you, "I'm full, but thank you" You said while making an eye contact to Minji before you close the Door.
next day
Today is your practice day for dance practice video, you check the time and your late, you rush at the bathroom to do your routine and you wear oversize White T-shirt and baggy pants both given by your brother jk and ofc your white shoes, when you lock the door you manager said "your finally up let's go time is running" you rush at the van and wait for your manager.
You finally arrive at the Hybe practice room, "sorry everyone I took so long :3" you said while putting you bag at the corner with theirs and start practicing. "NCCC GREAT JOBB EVERYONEEEEEE" your leader said with the gummy smile. It's time to change clothes but the comfort room is full because the 4 girls are changing there.
"Is the door lock?" you ask Minji, "no why?" she looks at you waiting for your answer, "I'm gonna change clothes here, my sweat are drying" You said while Minji runs to lock the door. While your change you saw Minji staring at you, "You good?" you snap Minji to gain her attention. "o-oh im sorry i- i was think something" She nervously laugh a bit, "oh its fine you can change now ill turn back" you wait fr her to change before going back to the dorm with your members.
interview day
Todays interview is one of your worst day because the host of the mc already made an issue with lesserafim before and chaewon just defend it.
"PLEASE WELCOM NEWEJEANS" The host said while you and your members go out one by one, "ellow everyone we are newjeans" all of you bow and introduce one by one.
The interview makes you angry because your members are talking, and the host keeps interrupting which shows a disrespect to the members. "you guys are not that talkative like before huh AHAHAHA" the host jokes which triggered your temper. "If you want us to talk more don't interrupt us while talking, that's so unprofessional of you" You said In the mic which make all the member and the fans Suprise at your words, the shows goes on after the incident that happened.
Your group starts to go back the backstage suddenly you manager called you " JEON Y/N" He said with a bad mood which makes your member startle. "Do you know What did you do at the show huh?!" he said pointing at you " I'm not that dumb and I KNOW WHAT I'M DOING AWHILE AGO!" You shout as you felt a pair of hands to calm you down. "we will talk later 7pm sharp" manager said while looking at you before he walks out.
meeting area
"what happened awhile ago?" PD said while taping the pen, "I don't like the way he cut us while we talk" you said staring at the pen his tappin, "but why did you say that IN FRONT of everybody" he is waiting for your answer staring at you, you took a deep breath "Ok look I hate that host since the beginning of TXT interview issue and then le serafim where Chaewon needs to defend herself because of what the host said and now us" you said, "So what is the connection?" PD-nim is curious, "I DONT WANT IISSUE BECAUSE I CARE FOR MY MEMBERS, IT'S HARDD TO DEFEND YOUR SELF JUST LIKE WHAT HAPPEND TO MY FRIEND GARAM, someone did her dirty issue, she can't defend herself AND NOW WHAT HAPPENED?! NOTHING!" you shouted at you stand up to your chair and slam the table. "y/n calm dow-" you cut your manager "ME?? CALM DOWN?? IF SOMETHING GONNA HAPPEN WITH MY MEMBERS, Your going to pay that" You said but before you leave you look back at them " PD-nim sorry for shouting but I hope you understand" you close the door and left.

Oh, the maid thing is such a cute idea!

I’m gonna rent a Micro maid for the express purpose of hand-washing my dirty underwear.
Finding it hard to stifle a degrading laugh as I usher my trembling hire towards a simple washbasin—one infinitely larger than herself—full of hot, soapy water and several pairs of ‘well-loved’ panties. Maybe I rest a claw upon her back when she inevitably reels back at the introduction of my heavy musk, reminding her that it surely can’t be as bad as what others have asked of her. She’ll be fine so long as she does her job well.

Sat on the cool linoleum, hovering well above my shivering prey as she scrubs as hard as she can, working to get the lovingly caked precum from the crotch. The idea of my scent inadvertently sticking to her body while she works pleases me. To mark one’s victim with their scent should be a privilege, especially for something so pathetic. I coo demeaningly if she slows, with a subtle comment on how easy it’d be to simply replace her—laughing raucously when my ill-intentioned pep talk takes effect and she speeds up. She’s so good with her tools after all; why not push her to work at her fullest potential?

Of course, a maid’s job is never done. When she’s finally finished washing my delicates, collapsing upon the tiles in an undoubtedly exhausted heap, I make my move. To me, my movements are gentle, subtle little shifts that position my unmentionables above her. Though to someone as inconsequential as herself, the world might as well be ending. The deafening rush of air is enough to blow her over, a sweet little Micro, staring in unadulterated terror as I casually yank the fabric of my sweaty shorts aside. All that earthy musk spilling out to suffocate her at such close proximity. My dripping, stifling pussy looms just above her.

“My turn now—”

She doesn’t get to scream; I don’t give her the courtesy. My fur-covered cunt meets her and the bathroom tiles with an all-encompassing 'squelch'. I yawn and itch my stomach. She’s definitely squirming. I rock my hips for good measure, really feeling her out as I essentially mould my drooling sex around her worthless body.

Lifting myself back up with all the grace of a beached whale, I bring her with me, sandwiched hopelessly within my labia. The poor girl makes burbled whining sounds while I let out a relaxed sigh. With all the sweating and general scent of a beargirl’s musk, it must stink pretty bad for such a pitiful thing. The shorts are pulled back over my sopping pussy, and I relish the wriggling within—dialling the maid service number on my phone as deft, clawed fingers stroke against my cunt through the fabric. She’s certainly lively in there, although I don’t particularly think she likes her new home.

However, speaking to the operator only cements my desire to keep her. It seems when she hears the voice of someone familiar, it’s the slightest sliver of hope that she might escape and that’s enough to motivate her. My thighs tighten when her desperate writhing ramps up. Stupid Micro, she’s just getting me riled up. I barely manage to sputter through my little ‘problem’; lying doesn’t actually matter to these people, but no one likes to admit that they’d rather fuck the Micro than return it.

The tired, all-too-aware voice on the end of the phone asks for my card details when I explain how I ‘lost’ her, explaining that they need to deduct a fine from my account, not that it matters much. These hopeless little things cost a dime a dozen. The maid’s muffled screaming vibrates pleasantly against my clit, and I wonder if I should invest in a couple more of the little things. A girl needs to keep clean, after all, and what’s nicer than a few new ‘companions’ to pass the time with?

GGOSH I. HHOPE IM RENTED NEXT >/////<
Her whimpers as she obeys, nodding hastilly before scurrying to grab at your used garments... her hands trembling as she struggles to drag them, assuring you that she has it handled, blushing as you watch her feverishly scrub away at stains... your little threat, accidental or not, only makes her more desperate to serve...
Just IMAGINING your voice booming in her little ears, how loud it must be, how TERRIFYING it must be... hearing you go on and on with someone on the phone about needing to pay for her dissapearance, knowing full well that she'll never be seeing her employers again... between the sudsy water she was scrubbing with and the deep depths of your pussy, I doubt she'll be getting much fresh air...
All the maids still wait anxiously, recieving news that yet another one isn't coming back, almost all terrified...
... only making me more eager to be rented 😵‍💫

Thanks for all your information regarding the NCCC! Unfortunately it seems it likely don't qualify compared to other candidates (especially in lack of professional references needed) but it's the thought that counts. Any tips for those in my position lacking a bit of americorps qualities?
For the references: Put someone(s) down who knows your work ethic and professional qualifications. It doesn't need to be your boss, especially if you don't like them. Put down a teacher you liked, a pastor/minister, a family you babysat for a few times, or (and they'll really like this) someone at an organization you volunteered at. People in those positions get asked all the time if they'll be good references. Even if you screwed up everywhere you ever tried to do anything, someone will give you a reference.
And if you did screw up? Go middle aged white man confidence on it and put down references that don't match with exactly what they're looking for. Put down a roommate who saw you get up and go to work or school every day. Put down the coworker who trained you and list them as a "mentor".
If you're really struggling to come up with references (or anything AmeriCorps application-wise call this number: 1-800-942-2677. This is the AmeriCorps main line and they can direct you to someone who can coach you through the application and give you tips on what references they would accept.

Y’all I did NOT just find out that AmeriCorps NCCC has like an account on this dumpster-forsaken site.
I’ve been in this program since October and??? Why would they be here???
Anyways — as a current CM — if you wanna know anything about it, feel free to ask me. I have Bias, of course, but I have ✨experiences✨
(I’m not saying this to discourage anyone from applying, just if anyone wants to ask specific questions about the program or my experience as a non-binary member—I remember not finding much about that when I was preparing for my term)

It's so funny when I see people like if only America had a national service program where young people can live and work on a team doing service projects throughout the country. Reinventing AmeriCorps NCCC...

can u talk more about your time in americorps? if you feel like it. i'm interested in doing it but idk if i can but i want to know what it's like
yes!! i have done americorps twice at different times in my life and they were very different experiences that were what i needed at each time
i did americorps nccc at first when i was 22 and it was probably the most life-defining experience of my life. i got to live with a small group of people and travel around the country for a year and work with different organizations which is really cool for a young person for a few different reasons, for me being:
-exposure to different types of work and organizations that are doing genuinely good work within their community. When I was in the program, we did everything from working hands-on in national and international gardens and parks, construction-type work cleaning and boarding vacant houses, working as summer school teachers and camp counselors for people with disabilities, and there are more im forgetting im sure but it really shows you the opportunities out there and pushes you out of your comfort zone to the point that you realize you are capable of much more than what you may have thought
-free food/housing, which makes it super ideal for a young person with no money and gives you the unique opportunity to actually travel and build career skills for free
-this is dependent on chance, to an extent, but i had a team i loved. we were all very very different personalities and backgrounds but very open people and we built a very strong bond which i think helped all of us learn to grow up by cooking for each other, navigating very tight living situations, having fun together, working together as a team all the time, and that's something i see a lot of people still struggling to navigate even as much older adults. but on top of those skill sets you learn, it's just fucking FUN. you get to go on tons of road trips with your best friends and meet tons of new people have cook outs, go camping, have movie nights, play hide and seek in old houses. its just really really really fun if you get paired with people who are open and caring and you learn a lot from them
There are downsides. The training for NCCC is kind of grueling. It's arguably a cult. But I easily survived on that small living stipend with the housing and food coming free and if you can take the physical training and strict rules and see them as like a way of trying new things and learning new ways to live, its actually pretty fun. I learned I actually like playing most sports and am pretty athletic. Everyone breaks all of the rules (alcohol, especially) and at least at my campus, it was very very very easy to get in trouble. I got in a lot of trouble during my stint tbh we were bad kids lol but i dont even regret that because it was fun and i learned from it and the people i was around knew me well enough to fight for me to stay in. just try not to get caught because they do kick people out at the drop of the dime, and if i had been on any other team than the highest-achieving, most close-knit one, i'm pretty sure i would have been kicked out in a heartbeat. i know multiple kids who got arrested or had other like very intense situations happen during that time, so like, it is as challenging as it is fun. please be more cautious than me if you do it.
I did AmeriCorps Vista when I was 27, after several intermediate years of working at a non-profit theatre and it was a completely different experience, but also really beneficial for me, personally. But I did get lucky again, here, in finding a career path I was interested in and people who were invested enough to put me on track for a job and trust me with some key opportunities. I'd say this is something that this option for me felt comfortable because at this point i was a full adult with expectations for autonomy and independence so it was a nice opportunity to get my foot in the door in field I cared about (for me, I had realized during my first stint that I was really passionate about making sure kids had a safe space to go during summers and afterschool, so I chose to work with an org that did that). If you do good work in VISTA, and if you commit to the work and try new things, I think it's pretty common to make a career out of it. I got the opportunity, as a VISTA, to write a grant proposal for NASA (literally on a WHIM, to give me a first stab at learning how to write grants and grow my skillset), and I got it, which basically sealed a permanent position in the org for me. From there, I was able to get additional promotions, so it was like. an extremely efficient launching point to get into a career i was interested in for me. And I think this happens for a lot of people.
Financially, VISTA Is much more difficult. I saved up some money before I started, and blew threw a lot of it just paying rent. It is possible, but i know first-hand it is very very difficult when you dont have any additional financial support, so I'd recommend trying to save up a little bit before starting or finding a living situation with roommates/where youre paying very little in rent. i do think its unethical and i know they have recently raised pay rates, since i finished my term, but i doubt it's enough to live quite comfortably without saving in advance.
In summary, NCCC is great and I'd recommend it to virtually any kid who loves to travel and wants to try new things.
VISTA is a great way to get experience in a field you think youre interested in and if you do it its very important you take risks to make yourself stand make your resume as impressive as possible
