As an Ajinkyan --- Next 3 Years
The first three years at our Alma Mater had created a strong launch pad & a solid foundation of our academic as well as physical and mental capabilities. Our growth in the preceeding years resulted in making us even more determined & dedicated to pursue our dreams.Our parents and other family members were amazed with our transformation when we went home during the summer vacation. The stage was set up fot further challenges ahead.
Meanwhile,new infrastructure and facilities were created. Consequently, we learnt Swimming & Horse Riding from experts. Athletics complex enabled us to learn and practice various field & track events. A special mention about Mr Ghadge who presonally taught us Boxing while imparting the advice --- never to give up without a fight!! We were lucky that NCC was introduced in 1964. Thus, we could practice Rifle firing,Drill parades, Obstacle course & attend NCC camps in other States. The motto of NCC ---- “ Unity & Discipline” further reinforced our resolve to serve the Nation, as national integration was the ethos of NCC.
Jan 1964 was a memorable milestone since first two cadets of our senior Batch were selected to join the 31 NDA Course.It was an occasion to celebrate as well as motivate the junior Batches aspiring for admission to the prestigious tri- services Institution.In Jul 1964, another three cadets joined the 32 NDA Course.Let me explain the procedure for selection for the NDA. First step was a Written Exam by the UPSC, held twice a year. On the basis of the results, selected candidates above certain cut off percentage, were called for an extensive Services Selection Board ( SSB ).At the SSB, candidates were assessed on various parameters, such as, IQ & PQ tests,Psychological tests,Physical tests, Group tasks, Group discussions & personal interview. The candidates who qualified in the SSB had to undergo a detailed Medical exam. Finally, a consolidated merit list based on the results of all the aforementioned exams was prepared & only those in the top bracket, on the basis of the vacancies were selected for admission to the NDA.
Our Principal designed a special coaching module for the aspirants for the NDA. Core team of Teachers focussed their efforts to train the aspirants in a systematic manner while monitoring the progress.The emphasis was on refining the theoretical as well as practical aspects in a competitive environment.The results for the selection to NDA improved each year --- 10 cadets in 1965 & 8 cadets in 1966.This motivated more volunteers for the next Batch for special coaching for NDA.
Another major event was the India-Pakistan war in 1965. There was a fervour of patriotism throughout the period of the war from April-September 1965. We were ever so anxious to listen to the news bulletins and read the newspapers in order to keep abrest about the situation. This indeed developed our interest in Military history. We were tasked to give a review of the war situation in front of the class, which improved our communication skills tremendously. The only source for this review was the All India Radio since there was no Television or “Google”.
In 1967, I was one of the 15 privileged cadets who were selected for the NDA for the 38th NDA Course which was to commence on 5th July 1967. In retrospect I wish to express my gratitude towards the team of teachers who were my coach, guide and mentors. A special tribute to Mr. Chauhan (English), Mr. Asanare (Maths), Mr. Kapoor (Physics), Mr. Kirtikar (Chemistry), Mr. Devasahayam (History), Mr. Dalvi (Geography) and Mr. Ghadge (Physical Training & Sports). Ofcourse the master trainer was our Principal, Col Puri who always raised the bar, challenged our limits and improved our standards not only for NDA but also for other streams. The Ajinkans have distinguished themselves not only in Defence Services but also as successful Doctors, Engineers, Hoteliers, Actors, Business leaders and Entrepreneurs. The contribution of Mrs. Puri popularly called “Puri Aunty” was equally commendable and is fondly remembered. Her compassionate nature treating each child as her own son was reciprocated in equal measure as each of us received her affectionate blessings as a Mother.

Leave a starship where you settled in is always an upsetting experience. Leave a starship where you felt part of the crew, in order to move to a starship where the crew is said to be a tight king group that doesn’t welcome experienced officers, it’s akin to a nightmare. This is the first thought that crosses Lieutenant Mae Darwin’s when she receives the communication for her new assignment to the Enterprise. In any other day, the very prospect of serving on the flagship would be reason to throw a party. But gone is the Enterprise commanded by Captain Pike, a decorated hero who earned his seat on the crown jewel of the fleet. Handed over to a punk that was promoted captain straight from the academy, the Enterprise is now that aunt awfully famous you can’t ignore but so cringe that you get embarrassed whenever you have to introduce her to friends or invite her to dinner. Nobody in their sane mind, and with stripes earned by years of service, would wish for an assignment on the Enterprise.
Mae Darwin isn’t one of those officers who despises the lucky crew. She doesn’t call them with derogatory names. She firmly believes that, if they got a field promotion or the stripes as a reward for some heroic action, there must be some merits in them. Stuck in the Laurentian system when the Enterprise left Earth to aid Vulcan, she can’t pretend to understand, let alone judge, a bunch of cadets that, alone against a superior enemy and deprived of their commanding officer, found themselves the only thing standing between an advanced starship with capabilities of destroying planets and Earth. But she’s also aware that most of Starfleet officers don’t share her open-mindedness on the matter. She’s aware of the fierce criticism, she knows that the young crew wasn’t spared nastiness and slanders. Her own fellow officers don’t hold their tongue when she break the news. She, experienced officer who followed the proper career path, on the ship manned by young people promoted straight out of the academy? That crew, brought together by a crisis and molded under the harsh scrutiny of the public opinion, will tear her to pieces and then spit it out the bones.
It is with a sense of dread that she arrives on the Enterprise. Setting foot on the shiny black floor feels like walking on eggshells, every hand offered or welcome voiced a minefield she must approach with caution in order to not set up any trap. She’s intruding in a tight-knit team that perceives any outsider a threat, that has learned to not trust anyone who hadn’t had their first testing during the Battle of Earth.
What she finds is diametrically opposite to what was anticipated her. Those aren’t a bunch of lucky newbies with a rush graduation on the shoulders, cadets playing dress up with uniforms too large to fill, who let fame go to their heads, or any other mean thing Starfleet officers thought about the Enterprise young crew. What she finds is a family that had come together in tragedy and is trying to find their feet without a danger to force the better out of them. A family who is desperate to prove that they earned their promotions and their place on the flagship. A family under pressure, people who put up brave masks to hide that they feel the negative opinion the rest of the fleet has toward them.
And, despite her attempts at caution, she's welcomed. She isn't the intruder to chase away, but a new transfer to adopt. Everyone is eager to make her feel home and, before she knows it, she is cracking jokes and settling in, at ease in the odd bubble lead by Captain Kirk and his unique - and quite orthodox - commanding style.
They prove themselves a terrific crew during crisis, the captain is relentless and gives his best when he’s stressed, drugged on caffeine and cornered, the commander isn’t as scary as she heard, and the senior crew works like one. But it’s the way they act when the red alarm cease s to blare that’s captivating. There are no ranks out of duty, first class crew members mingle with lieutenants, ensigns loudly plan pranks against a senior crew member and bridge crew tell the tales of how the captain managed to start a catfight between commander Spock and CMO McCoy and enjoyed the show from his chair during a boring shift. It’s like living in a big, happy college campus and, while it takes some time to get used to it, it’s undoubtedly a change that Mae embraces.
Assigned to bridge crew, she stands in as relief pilot in a couple of occasions, but it’s her first time as backup navigator that tests her skills and strength of character in ways she could’ve never predicted. Chosen to replace ensign Chekov when the Russian is unexpectedly promoted chief engineer in stead of the even more surprising resignations of lieutenant commander Scott, she’s trust in the first line throughout the hunt for John Harrison in Klingon space. Her ability to keep a cool head during high-level stress situations is put to the test during the Enterprise tragic battle against the more advanced Vengeance and, in front of certain death, she’s a solid and reliable partner for lieutenant Sulu, who is tasked with the burden to keep the dying Enterprise floating as much as he can. Loyal and proud, she’s the second after Sulu to defy commander Spock’s order to abandon stations to evacuate.
With the Enterprise docked for repairs, Darwin is reassigned and, her wishes fulfilled, she’s able to join her crewmates when, a year later, the restored ship leaves Earth for a five-years mission. Now promoted to navigation, she’s often assigned to the same shift as pilot lieutenant Mitchell.
A year and half into the mission, Darwin get the unpleasing surprise of a transfer. Jumping between surveys ships and science vessels, she’s days away from Yorktown when, in 2263, the Enterprise is once again involved with a Federation-level threat and is destroyed.
Chief navigator on the USS Endeavour, she’s a familiar face that, months later, welcomes on the bridge captain Kirk, interim commanding officer assigned to the ship after the retirement of captain Derbes. Set for an exploratory survey that would last one year, the destiny of the vessel is eventually changed when a distress call requires a course change. Unheard-before Borgs, the Romulan Star Empire, the gravity pull of a white hole, assassination attempts to ambassadors, insane captains who replace (less-insane) captains by assuming their form to attack other ships in revenge and even multiversal collection of vessels with too many different versions of captain Kirks (although the last one she forgets as it didn’t happen - time paradoxes). Darwin can’t say that what was supposed to be a survey mission into uncharted space turned out to be more exciting than expected. Perhaps too much.
Two years of serving on normal ships, and she had forgotten how powerful was the gravitational pull of Kirk, who happens to be a magnet for all the most bizarre things of the universe. Longing for that life, and for the friends she left on the Enterprise, she ask the captain to consider her for the crew of the new Enterprise that will soon launch from Yorktown base. Kirk says he can’t promise anything, but the request for the transfer is soon in her mailbox. Chief navigator of the most advanced ship of the fleet: it’ll be hard to fill the shoes of Pavel Chekov, but she’ll do her best.
Despite her imposing looks that efficiently scare people away, she's very funny and down to earth and possesses a fine sense of humor. She's a talented dancer and teaches at the tap dance course.

About Chekov With the sad death of Anton Yelchin, as most of the fandom, I sided with the wish expressed by cast and J.J. Abrams that Chekov would not be recast. We know that it’s unlikely we’ll ever have a new Kelvin movie but my wish has always been that he would be established as transferred on another ship. With portions of fandom claiming for a new character, I stood by the use of an existing underused character: Darwin. In my personal headcanon, Chekov (with the face and accent of Anton Yelchin) will be forever part of the Enterprise until Pine!Kirk retires (hopefully without meeting the Nexus this time). But this headcanon series tries to stay faithful to canon. So here we are.
Notes The two only details for Darwin we know are told in the comics series Star Trek: Boldly Go that came after Into Darkness: her name and her rank. Rest is me bullshitting; the tap dance thing in honor to Aisha Hinds, the actress that played her.
This series, as for the twin series TOS to AOS, stops at the ending of Into Darkness, with the start of the five-years mission. As the only Into Darkness character who was seen in any post-Into Darkness material, I decided to include Beyond into Darwin’s headcanon.

Guidelines for Opening of NCC in an Institute (For exact procedures refer to the NCC Rules / Contact the Commanding Officer of the nearest NCC Unit)
Institutions desirous of having NCC are required to apply formally on the prescribed format duly completed (eight copies) to the CO of concerned nearest NCC Unit, where these forms are available. In case of the Private/Self Financing institutions,con currence should be endorsed at Ser 16 of the application form by the Sponsor / Head of the institution for bearing the financial implications.

The applications submitted by the institutions are scrutinized by the Unit and feasibility of raising NCC in the institution is also examined. On fulfillment of the conditions, the application is forwarded to Gp HQ for their recommendations. Gp HQ forwards the application to Dte with their recommendations endorsed on the relevant para of the application.
At Directorate level, in case of the State Govt aided institutions, the applications are forwarded to the State Govt for their commitment for bearing their share of the financial implications. Endorsement of the competent authority at para 16 of the applications is required in case of new raisings of NCC sub units. However, in case of withdrawal of NCC sub unit from one institution and it’s re allotment to another one, the endorsement of the State Govt is not mandatory. If no response is received from the State Govt within 30 days , it is presumed that the State Govt has no objection to the proposal of the withdrawal/ re allotment.
In case of the self financing institutions or the institutions sponsored by other than the State Govts (like Kendriya Vidyalayas, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, Military Schools etc), the endorsement of the Head of the institution or the sponsor is required at para 16 of the application for the financial commitment.
Once the commitment to bear the financial implications is endorsed and the cadet strength becomes available, the Dte forwards the applications to NCC HQ for sanction of the raising.
This HQ scrutinizes the applications on the basis of criterion of waiting list seniority, endorsement for financial commitment for the State Govt / sponsor share, availability of cadet str etc, and on being found eligible, sanction is accorded and communicated to the Dte.
The Dte, in turn, communicates the sanction to concerned Gp HQ who in turn communicates to the Unit and after that the process of raising starts.

Lockdown 3.0: What’s allowed, what’s not from tomorrow
Covid-19 lockdown extended: The MHA said a limited number of activities will remain prohibited across the country, irrespective of the zones. These include travel by air, rail, metro and inter-state movement by road. The third phase of the coronavirus enforced lockdown to break the chain of transmission will kick in from Monday after the government extended the nationwide lockdown for two more weeks. According to latest figures provided by the Health Ministry, the total number of coronavirus cases climbed to 40,263 with as many as 1,306 fatalities. The ministry said 2487 cases and 73 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours. “After a comprehensive review and in view of the lockdown measures having led to significant gains in the Covid-19 situation, the government has decided to further extend the lockdown,” the MHA order read. The MHA further said a limited number of activities will remain prohibited across the country, irrespective of the zones,including travel by air, rail, metro and inter-state movement by road; running of schools, colleges, and other educational and training/coaching institutions. Here’s what all will not be allowed under the new guidelines issued today irrespective of the zone * Travel by air, rail, metro and inter-state movement by road * Running of schools, colleges and other educational, training, coaching institutions * Hospitality services including hotels and restaurants * Places of large public gatherings such as cinema halls, malls, gyms, sports complexes * Social, political, cultural and other kinds of gatherings * Religious places, places of worship for public However, movement of persons by air, rail and road is allowed for select purposes and for those permitted by the MHA. The MHA order has also prescribed measures for the “well being and safety of persons.”
The order states that movement of individuals in all zones for all non-essential activities, shall remain strictly prohibited between 7 pm and 7 am. Local authorities shall issue orders imposing Section 144 and ensure strict compliance, the order states. In all zones, those above the age of 65, persons with co-morbidities, pregnant women and children below the age of 10 years, shall stay at home except for meeting essential requirements and for health purporses. OPDs and medical clinics shall be permitted to operate in Red, Orange and Green Zones with social distancing norms and other preventive measures. However, these will not be permitted in containment zones. These activities are not allowed in Red Zones * Plying of cycle rickshaws and auto rickshaws; * Running of taxis and cab aggregators; * Intra-district and inter-district plying of buses; * Barber shops, spas and saloons Here’s what all is allowed in Red Zones * Movement of individuals and vehicles is allowed only for permitted activities, with a maximum of 2 persons (besides the driver) in four-wheeler vehicles, and with no pillion rider in the case of two-wheelers * Industrial establishments in urban areas – Special Economic Zones (SEZs), Export Oriented Units (EOUs), industrial estates and industrial townships with access control have been permitted * Manufacturing units of essential goods, including drugs, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, their raw material and intermediates; production units, which require continuous process, and their supply chain; manufacturing of IT hardware; jute industry with staggered shifts and social distancing; and, manufacturing units of packaging material * Construction activities in urban areas have been limited to in-situ construction (where workers are available on site and no workers are required to be brought in from outside) and construction of renewable energy projects. * Shops in urban areas, for non-essential goods, are not allowed in malls, markets and market complexes. * All industrial and construction activity in rural areas, including MNREGA works, food-processing units and brick-kilns * In rural areas, without distinction of nature of goods, all shops except in shopping malls, are permitted * All agricultural activities – sowing, harvesting, procurement and marketing operations in the agricultural supply chain are permitted. * Animal husbandry activities are fully permitted including fisheries * All plantation activities are allowed, including their processing and marketing. * All health services (including AYUSH) are to remain functional, including transport of medical personnel and patients through air ambulances * Financial sector to remain open largely. This includes banks, non-banking finance companies, insurance and capital market activities, and credit co-op societies * Operation of homes for children, senior citizens, destitutes, women and widows, etc * Operation of anganwadis * Public utilities in power, water, sanitation, waste management, telecommunication and internet * Courier and postal services * E-Commerce activities, in the Red Zones, are permitted only in respect of essential goods * Private offices can operate with upto 33% strength as per requirement, with the remaining persons working from home * All standalone (single) shops, neighborhood (colony) shops and shops in residential complexes are permitted to remain open in urban areas, without any distinction of essential and non-essential. * All Government offices shall function with senior officers of the level of Deputy Secretary and above at full strength, and the remaining staff attending upto 33% as per requirement. Defense and Security services, Health and Family Welfare, Police, Prisons, Home Guards, Civil Defence, Fire and Emergency Services, Disaster management and related services, National Informatics Centre (NIC), Customs, Food Corporation of India (FCI), National Cadet Corps (NCC), Nehru Yuvak Kendra (NYK) and Municipal services shall function without any restrictions; delivery of public services shall be ensured and necessary staff will be deployed for such purpose. * Print and electronic media, IT and IT enabled services, data and call centres, cold storage and warehousing services, private security and facility management services, and services provided by self-employed persons, except for barbers etc. * Manufacturing units of essential goods, including drugs, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, their raw material and intermediates; production units, which require continuous process, and their supply chain * Jute industry with staggered shifts and social distancing; and manufacturing of IT hardware and manufacturing units of packaging material will continue to be permitted. What all is allowed in Orange Zones In addition to activities permitted in Red Zone, below are the additional activities that are now permitted taxis and cab aggregators will be permitted with 1 driver and 1 passenger only. Inter-district movement of individuals and vehicles will be allowed for permitted activities only. Four wheeler vehicles will have maximum two passengers besides the driver and pillion riding will be allowed on two-wheelers. What all is allowed in Green Zones All activities are permitted except the limited number of activities which are prohibited throughout the country, irrespective of the Zone. Buses can operate with upto 50% seating capacity and bus depots can operate with upto 50% capacity. These are the nationwide guidelines for workplaces * Wearing of face cover is compulsory in all work places and adequate stock of such face covers shall be made available. * All persons in charge of work places shall ensure social distancing as per the guidelines issued by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, both within the work places and in company transport. Social distancing at work places shall be ensured through adequate gaps between shifts, staggering the lunch breaks of staff, etc. * Provision for thermal scanning, hand wash and sanitizer preferably with touch free mechanism will be made at all entry and exit points and common areas. *WORKING PRINCIPLE OF A DVD PLAYER?* 💿📀
The DVD ( Digital Video Disc or Digital Versatile Disc) is a digital optical disc data storage format invented and developed in 1995.
DVD base layer made of a polycarbonate plastic. A thin layer of aluminum coating over the polycarbonate plastic. A clear protective acrylic coating over the aluminum layer.
The pits and bumps in the DVD are hit by the laser from the optical mechanism of the DVD player. This laser will be reflected differently according to the change of pits and bumps. Though the laser hits a single spot, the DVD moves in a circular motion so that the entire area is covered.
Red Laser shines onto a spinning DVD disc, reads the bumps (known as “pits”) in the reflection, converts it to 1s (Shiny) and 0s (Non-Shiny Pit), and the circuitry inside the player converts those 1s and 0s into sound and picture.
These reflected laser beams are then collected by a light sensor (eg. photo-detector) which converts the different signals into a binary code. In short, the optical system helps in converting the data from the DVD into a digital code. The binary signal is then sent to a Digital to Analog converter which will be setup in the PCB (Printed Circuit Board). Thus the corresponding analog signal of the DVD is obtained. The PCB also has amplifiers which amplify the signal and then sends it to the graphic and audio systems of the computer/TV. Thus, the corresponding audio/video signal is obtained.

ICMR Instructs states to stop using Chinese rapid antibody test kits till quality is examined
India's apex medical research body ICMR on Tuesday advised states to stop using the rapid antibody test kits for next two days till it examines their quality in the wake of complaints that they are not fully effective.
Last week, India procured five lakh rapid antibody test kits from two Chinese firms and they were distributed to several states reporting rising cases of coronavirus infection.
Rajasthan government on Tuesday said that the kits were giving out inaccurate results.
At a press briefing, Head of Epidemiology and Communicable Diseases at Indian the ICMR, Dr Raman R Gangakhedkar, said the companies which supplied the kits will be asked to replace them if the kits are found to be faulty.

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has been the nodal medical body in the country's fight against the pandemic.
"We have received complaint from one state and so far discussed the issue with three states. High variations ranging from 6 to 71 per cent have been reported between the results of the rapid tests and RT-PCR tests. We will advise states not to use these testing kits for the next two days," he said.
These kits will be tested and validated in the field by teams from our eight institutes after which we will issue a clear-cut advisory for the states. If there is some fault in the batch, we will ask the company to replace the kits," Gangakhedkar said.
Officials clearly indicated that the kits over which questions have been raised are from China.
Rajasthan health minister Raghu Sharma on Tuesday said the kits gave only 5.4 per cent accurate results against the expectation of 90 per cent accuracy and therefore were of no benefit.
In the wake of adverse reports about the quality of Chinese medical equipment, a spokesperson in the Chinese embassy Ji Rong last week said China attaches great importance to the quality of medical products.
"We hope that foreign buyers can choose products certified by Chinese regulatory authorities and with production qualifications when importing relevant products," Ji had said.
She said the Chinese authorities introduced stricter regulatory measures, requiring exporters to declare that their supplies have obtained the registration certificate for the medical device from the State Food and Drug Administration and meet the quality standards of the importing country.
About questions over the quality of the tests, Gangakhedkar said that these were first general tests and may show variations.
It has been just three-and-half months since the disease appeared and so any test will have to be refined further, he added.
At present, the government uses the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests to detect coronavirus from the throat or nasal swab samples of people. These take around five to six hours to show the results.
In the rapid antibody tests, the blood samples of suspected patients are taken, and it normally takes around 15-30 minutes to give the result.
The government has recommended the use of rapid antibody tests in hotspot areas.
"It is to be used for surveillance and for epidemiological purposes in such areas. The RT-PCR test is the gold standard for frontline test and antibody test cannot replace this test. Utility of rapid antibody test is primarily for assessing prevalence of infection in a particular area," officials earlier had said.
India has been facing severe shortage of testing kits amid rising cases of the coronavirus.
Asked if the number of cases would stabilise, Gangakhedkar said, "The doubling time of cases is increasing, the current situation indicates that significant increase in number of coronavirus cases is unlikely."
A total of 4,49,810 samples for COVID-19 infection have been tested till Tuesday of which 35,852 were tested on Monday, he said.
As many as 29,776 samples have been tested in 201 labs under the ICMR network, and 6,076 at 86 private laboratories, he said.
Joint Secretary in the ministry of Health Lav Agarwal said that along with Mahe (Puducherry), Kodagu (Karnataka) and Pauri Garhwal (Uttrakhand) , a new district Pratapgarh in Rajasthan has not reported any fresh cases during the last 28 days.
There are now 61 additional districts from 23 states and UTs that have not reported any fresh cases in the last 14 days. Four new districts which have been included in the list are Latur, Osmanabad, Hingoli and Washim from Maharashtra, according to the official.
Agarwal further said that the Union Health Minister has written to all state and UT health departments asking them to ensure adequate availability of blood in blood banks especially for people requiring regular blood transfusion on account of disorders such as Thalassemia, Sickle Cell Anemia and Hemophilia etc.

He said that detailed guidelines have been issued to states that they should focus on COVID-19 cases while, at the same time, non-COVID hospitals should provide regular services relating to maternal and child care, dialysis as well as treatment for cancer and HIV patients.
While providing all these services, required infection prevention control practices should be ensured in hospital set-ups to prevent spread of hospital related infections, he said.
Agarwal said that a total of 1,336 new cases have been reported in the last 24 hours since Sunday morning taking the total number of cases in the country to 18, 601.
Also 3,252 people have been cured so far with 705 people, the highest so far, having recovered on Monday. So overall 17.48 per cent people have recovered in the country so far, he stated.
Responding to a media query about 80 per cent of the COVID-19 patients being either asymptomatic and having mild symptoms and how the government is dealing with it, Gangakhedkar said that it is just one study according to which 80 out of 100 patients are asymptomatic.
"Among the total coronavirus tests conducted so far, 69 per cent were asymptomatic cases and 31 per cent were symptomatic cases. Which means for one positive patients when we initiated contact tracing, on an average we found three or four asymptomatic patients," he said.
"There are few reports of lab-confirmed COVID-19 cases which are truly asymptomatic. There has been no documented asymptomatic transmission. This does not exclude the possibility that it may occur," Agarwal said referring to a WHO report.
"Using community surveillance and contact tracing, we are taking pre-emptive action to test asymptomatic persons with high risk contacts so that we are able to identify infected patients in early stage, treat them and reduce mortality," he said.
At present there is data for more than 1.24 crore human resources on the 'covid warriors' - a dashboard developed by the government for augmenting human resources - and it is continuously being updated, chairman of the empowered group, Arun Kumar Panda, also Secretary, Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises said.
As on date, 14995 AYUSH professionals have been deployed in 15 states and 2 UTs, whereas 3492 NCC cadets and 553 NCC staff have been deployed in 68 districts in 16 states and 3 UTs.
More than 47,000 cadets have already enrolled for training and will be available for deployment. Also, 1,80,000 ex-servicemen have been identified by the Sainik Boards for deployment.
More than 40,000 volunteers from Indian Red Cross are actively participating in COVID-19 related activities in over 550 districts in the country.

PANAJI: The National Cadet Corps (NCC) has offered a helping hand to civilian authorities in the country’s fight against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) by extending the services of cadets under ‘Exercise NCC Yogdan’.
Only senior division volunteer cadets above 18 years of age will be employed, said ministry of defence officials. They should be employed in small cohesive groups of eight to 20 under the supervision of permanent instructor staff and an associate NCC officer.
The tasks envisaged for NCC cadets include, manning of helplines and call centres; distribution of relief materials, medicines, food, essential commodities; community assistance; data management and traffic management. According to the guidelines, cadets should not be employed in handling of law and order situation or for active military duties or at hot spots.
The NCC, which operates under Ministry of Defence, is the largest uniformed youth organisation of the country and has been engaged in conducting various social service and community development activities. The NCC cadets have been contributing to the national cause during natural calamities like floods, cyclone, etc since its inception.
For employment of volunteer cadets, state governments and district administration has to send the requisition through state NCC directorates.
Before the cadets are deployed for the duty, ground conditions and laid down requirements are to be ensured.

The then 20-year old NCC candidate and Indian army aspirant had just attended a training session for the Service Selection Board that day. On the same day, there was also a workshop conducted by Humans with Humanity, a community for animal rescue and welfare which Bhargsetu herself founded when she was just sixteen.
After the completion of the workshop, the volunteers wanted to go for a picnic and they asked Bhargsetu to join them. She agreed and they went to Mahi Sagar in Rasalpur for a short trip. “When we reached Mahi Sagar, I decided to swim in the deeper side of the river. Just when I was about to take the plunge, I heard screams. People were pointing out to the water and yelling, ‘Unko bacha lo’ (Save them),” recollects Bhargsetu during an interview with an online media website. There were two boys drowning by the deeper end of the river.
One of the boys were rescued by a local but his friend was not to be seen anywhere. Being an accomplished swimmer, Bhargsetu didn’t have much to think before diving into the water to search for the boy. “At first, I was standing at the highest point and tried searching for the boy. But, there was no movement or ripple in the water. As the crowd started panicking, I decided to dive into the river and continue the search. I swam for about 12 minutes, and as I neared the riverbed, I finally saw him. He was immobile, appeared lifeless. I couldn’t find a pulse and realized that he was going into cardiac arrest,” she said.

To help the man in the critical condition, Bhargsetu administered CPR (Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation) on him. Since his jaws were locked, she inserted her fingers inside his mouth to get the water out carefully without blocking his breathing. To Bhargsetu’s horror, the man started biting her fingers as he went into a seizure. Being an animal rescuer, she had been bitten by many creatures. However, she recollects being bitten by a human as the most painful experience. Bhargsetu didn’t stop even if the man was hurting her because she knew if she stopped, his heart would stop too.
The brave cadet kept slapping the man to keep him conscious and after multiple efforts, the man asked her to stop hitting him in a feeble voice. We can imagine the happiness Bhargsetu would have felt at the moment. The healthy man is now a student in Singapore. She became the Wonderwoman of her town within no time and won several awards for her bravery including the Governor’s medal and the prestigious Raksha Mantri Padak.
The Animal Lover
Bhargsetu is an ardent animal lover and as we said earlier, she started Humans with Humanity when she was only sixteen! Growing up in a family full of animal lovers, she always shared a close bond with them. She claims to have saved over 38000 strays and birds till today. When she realized that she couldn’t handle the number of calls to rescue animals from different locations with her team, she created a Facebook group for the same purpose. Today, the community has more than 80 members who strive hard to rescue animals in distress.

“We want to register the community as an animal welfare NGO, and continue to impact the lives of many strays and distressed animals,” said Bhargsetu. The 21-year-old was again under the spotlight after she appeared on Roadies, one of MTV India’s most celebrated reality shows. The show has definitely garnered more fans for Bharsetu. According to her if someone believes in something strongly and follows it with all their heart, they can be a change-maker no matter how young they are. Wow, isn’t that a wonderful thought!
